34: Sara is an Awesome Friend

Ava's POV

One would think that Senior Shadow Day would be a great opportunity for a senior like me. That particular day I found myself shadowing an elementary teacher. Seeing how Giselle desperately wants to be the world's best teacher, I thought maybe teaching could be a good career path for me. She even supported my decision in the shadow.

"OK class, today we have Ms. Ava," announced the teacher to the class. Today she'll be shadowing us and seeing what it's like to be a teacher. She's going to see all the exciting things that go on inside the classroom. Can we all say hello to her?"

"Hello, Ms. Ava," greeted the first-grade class in unison.

Needless to say, the first hour was not the most exciting. Just mostly watching students do bell work, go over the calendar, and other first grade things. Things did get a little more interesting after lunch. As the teacher was picking up the class from recess, one of the first graders got into a fight with a second-grader while getting in line. Unfortunately, I saw the entire thing unfold as did the teacher.

"You damn bitch!" yelled the second-grader. "Give me my Pokémon Cards back."

"You said I could have them."

Crap, that was it. The second-grader pounced on the first grader. Never would I have ever expected that to ever happen. My childhood was never this bad. Breathing became hard. Everything became a blur. How do teachers ever put up this? Crap, I would make a terrible mother. At least everything got handled. All I really know is that the principal got involved. I was just glad when the school day ended.

"What did you think?" asked the teacher once the students were gone.

"I'm not sure I have what it takes to be a teacher, to be honest."

"It's not an easy profession. The best teachers have the most passion. I'm sure you'll find something you're passionate about."

She was wrong. That was never going to happen. That afternoon, I stayed in the car while Sara attended her physical therapy session. Without any music on the radio, I just sat there thinking. My head was in so much pain. Hell, Sara wanted to be a vet or nurse. Giselle wanted to be the damn teacher. Why? What attracted her to that profession? All this thinking made my head hurt more. I did everything I could to hold in my tears. All I wanted to do is drive home, but I had to wait for Sara. Within a hot moment, she was on her crutches making her way to the car. Once she was in the car, I took off.

"How was it today?" I asked.

"Went well. I did a lot of balance and yoga. The therapist says he wants to have me do mini walking laps soon. Honestly, I'm excited over the progress I've made."

I couldn't find myself to speak. Sara was doing great. Good for her.

"Something wrong?" she asked.

"Nothing. Just Senior Shadow Day."

"That's right. I had fun today. I saw a lot of interesting things at the hospital.  You end up going with the teacher?"

"Yeah." For a moment, I couldn't speak. "Hated every minute of it. Crap might as well be dead."

"Make a left" she quickly blurted. And I made a left. She kept giving me directions that weren't even close to her house.

"The lake? Why the hell are we at the lake in February? You can't even walk."

"But I can swim." She immediately got out of the car leaving me to follow her. In seconds, she was taking off her clothes until she was in her bra and panties. My eyes had a hard time focusing as they wanted to look at her amazing body. "Getting a good look?" she smirked. "Take off your clothes. We're going for a swim."

"A swim? I don't know."

"Come on. Look at you. You need a good swim after the hard day you had. It'll release the stress."

With that said, I found myself taking off my clothes until I was in my bra and panties. I helped Sara walk on over to the water. Her skin felt amazing. All I wanted to do was touch it. Crap, I wanted to smell it. I know, I'm a little weird. Whatever. Once we stood next to the water, she released her crutches and jumped into the water. Seconds later, I jumped into the water. For a good thirty seconds, she was putting every effort to swim like she was in the Olympics. Trying to keep up with her, I was losing my breath. Thankfully, she finally stopped and slowly swam back to the shore and hung around. We were mostly floating around after that.

"You like Valentine's Day?" she asked why using her feet to move her body around the water. "Was thinking we could have a friend date or something."

"Not a big fan of the holiday. But I'd be down.

"What do you got against Valentine's Day?"

"I don't know. Boys were mean to me. In third grade I was new and this one boy Teddy was especially mean. Giselle came to my rescue and we became friends."

She laughed. "Well you know, I'm a girl so..." She swam away using her feet to splash me. She came back towards me. "You know you worry too much. I know we're seniors and all that crap, but you're going to figure it out."

"But what if I don't? You seem to have it all figured out. Crap, Giselle knows what she wants to do."

Her face became inches away from mine with her hand touching my cheek. Her other hand found itself on my shoulder. "Sure, I want to be a nurse or a vet, but I don't know the future. The future scares the living shit out of me. And do you really think Giselle knows what's going on? She had her sight set on one school and look at her now. Everything is going to be fine." She smiled and forced me to smile. Her body moved away from being close to mine. "By the way, what's this Teddy's last name?"

"I think it was Freeman."

"No way!" Her face was excited. "Teddy Freeman. He has literally the lowest scoring GPA of all the seniors. Plus he's a fat prick. What do you say we tipi his house? Get a little revenge. You up for it?"

How could I say no? Yes, I was up for it.

***

That night we drove by his house. All the lights were off. We had all the toilet paper we would need in the back of the car.

"How are we going to do this with your crutches?"

"It's not like my hands are broken. I got this."

We got out of the car with all the toilet paper. At first, I was a little scared to use the toilet paper.

"Come on girl, you use the paper to wipe yourself every day. This is no different."

With that, I made the first move. Toilet paper found itself on a tree. Within another moment, Sara got toilet paper on another tree. Things got more exciting when toilet paper found itself all over.

"Teddy's going to love this in the morning" Sara claimed. "He has no idea what's coming to him."

"What did Teddy ever do to you?"

"He called me fat in fifth grade."

"But you weren't fat."

"I was a little fat. Because of him I did about two or three diets within a couple of years. By the way, I wouldn't recommend the Atkins Diet."

"Isn't that the Subway Diet?" Without paying attention, I stood next to a car and leaned against it.

Before she could respond, the alarm went off causing the lights to turn on with someone screaming inside.

"Oh crap, we need to get out of here" Sara blurted in panic.

We quickly got in the car and started driving. Sara stopped me before I could speed off and instructed me to open the window. Once the window was opened, she grabbed an egg out of her pocket and threw it onto Teddy's Car.

"Speed off!" she yelled. And so I did.

"You sure Teddy won't know it was us?"

"Some girls egged his car last weekend. He's hated by a lot of people. He'll never know." I continued to speed down the road until we reached a nearby park and stopped. With both of us needing to catch a breath, we did so.

Sara looked at me with a smile and began laughing. "Not bad. Not bad at all."
