15: Ricky's Mom

Ava's POV

Daniel picked me up. Kissing his cheek, he drove us to our hike. Not going to lie, kissing his cheek felt somewhat strange. Like it didn't feel right or something. Regardless, I was willing to go on this easy and fat friendly hike.

"You have a good week?" he asked.

"Yeah it was fine I guess. Hung out with Sara a couple of times."

"Ah yes, I've noticed you two have been growing closer."

"Giselle keeps telling me I should embrace it and crap, but it all just feels too weird."

"Maybe she's right. Sometimes really good relationships grow out of the most unexpected ways. And honestly, Sara seems to mostly hang out with guys so maybe it's good for her to have a female friend."

He had an interesting point. "You know, I used to have a lot of female friends, but one by one I slowly walked away from them. And the more I think about it, the more it seems that part of the reason was that I was feeling uncomfortable around them. They all gave me this strange feeling."

He chucked a little. "Life is complicated, isn't it. I'm surprised with that statement you don't feel uncomfortable around Giselle."

"Me and Giselle go way back. There's no way I could abandon her. She's extremely special to me. She understands me."

"It's good to have those special friends I suppose."

Within five minutes we had arrived at our destination and by the looks of it, it did look easy. The path looked mostly flat. Well crap, I could do this. As we walked, Daniel mostly talked about his running experiences as I didn't feel like I had much to share. Frankly, I was fine with listening to all his stories. They felt soothing.

Giselle's POV

The bus station never felt so crowded on a Friday Night. Holding Ricky's Hand, we sat waiting for his mom. I could feel his nervous heartbeat. The nervous and angry heartbeat.

"Why are we doing this? My mom really isn't that great."

"I'm excited to meet your mom. And you know, you should cherish her."

"So why don't you go live with your parents?"

Yes, I ignored that comment as it ticked me off a bit, but we continued to wait. A thrilling soccer game on the television distracted us for the next half hour. I must have been zoning out because the next thing I knew Ricky was up as he was waiting for his mom to get off as the bus arrived. My feet quickly arose and met with him. One by one, people slowly got off. His mom appeared to be the last one off the bus. If I'm being honest, she was not a pretty sight. She looked at least sixty years old with a large gut and a few missing teeth.

"Well if it ain't my son Ricky?" announced his mom as she handed him her suitcase. "And who might this devilish beauty be?" her body was faced towards me while she was in admiration.

"This is my female friend Giselle," Ricky responded as we shook hands.

"I don't believe it, Ricky. How is this gorgeous girl not your girlfriend?"

"Actually Ricky is being..."

He interrupted my sentence. "I don't know mom. How about we get you a cab and head to Giselle's House. They have dinner waiting for us."

"Well, I damn well could eat. Ever since I quit smoking, I've been eating Ding Dongs and Cookies every night." No wonder she had grown a large gut.

We all stepped outside waiting for a cab. As we waited, Ricky's Mom had her eyes on me until she spoke again.

"You know, there's something about you Giselle. I feel like I've met you before. Maybe I haven't, but you seem rather familiar."

"I'm just your average girl," I blushed in fear. For whatever reason, I felt like she didn't like me much and it bothered me.

"You ain't average if Ricky takes a liking to you."

Within the minute, a cab showed up and we all hopped in with complete silence for the entire ride. A little awkward. After a long ride, we were finally home. Heather was outside talking on her phone when she saw us. Immediately she went inside and came back outside with Jaxon and Liam. I introduced Liam's Mom to Jaxon. My brother was thrilled to see her and they began chatting it up as they went inside. Heather went back to talking on her phone as Ricky had to use the bathroom. I stayed outside with Liam who hugged me.

"How's the book coming?" I asked.

"We've made interesting progress this week. Although, I feel like we have a weak main character. It doesn't make sense for both her and her mom to be strippers. The main character wants to get away from everything, but I just can't figure out what the problem is."

"Well, I have a feeling that after tonight, you might get a little inspiration," I winked.

We both laughed as we followed each other inside with Heather still on the phone in a pissed off tone. Jaxon and mom were still chatting it up in the kitchen. Meanwhile, Liam sat on the couch signaling me for me to follow him there. Ricky soon made his way out of the bathroom and went directly outside not wanting to be anywhere near his mom.
