#11: Looking for Inspiration

"Things still not going well?" Asked Giselle. We had found ourselves at the mall later that week. We both wanted ice cream. Dairy Queen was the way to go. With our love of Oreos, we both had Cookies and Cream Ice Cream.

"No, things are not going well. We've been watching Bollywood Movies all week." I took a lick of my ice cream. "They want to make a story about an arranged marriage. Honestly, I don't see how that would work as a story."

"Did you see the movie 'Brave' this past summer? That was a Pixar movie that dealt with the idea of an arranged marriage. Kids ate that up like candy. Maybe they have a point. Maybe they don't. Wouldn't know. All I know is that I'm loving this ice cream." Her tongue took a giant lick.

I found myself chuckling a bit as I completely forgot about that movie. "Honestly that movie was really boring and I fell asleep through most of it in the theater. Talk about a bad date with your girlfriend."

She broke out into heavy laughter. "Are you serious? You fell asleep on Heather during your date? I'll bet she whooped you after that one."

"In all fairness, She falls asleep during movies all the time we're home. And yet she can spend an entire night watching YouTube Videos. Have you ever slept through a movie?"

"Once or twice when I was a little child when I needed a nap."

"Anyways, I don't like the direction we're going and it needs to change."

Do you want to hear about my new boyfriend Ricky? It's been pretty interesting so far. Her ice cream cone was halfway done.

"Ok spill the beans. tell me about your new amazing boyfriend."

"My new amazing boyfriend is a serious bad boy," she jokingly claimed. "He acts like he's bad, but in reality, I think he's just trying to put on a show."

"I thought he was in jail though." I was nowhere close to finishing my ice cream.

"He was. Tried to sell drugs because his mom whored herself on the streets for money. Just trying to make a good living."

"Well, he sounds like a great guy."

"That's not the half of it. During lunch one day I went on his motorcycle to this pizza joint called 'Original Luigi's.' Honestly, it was kind of interesting being in that part of town. The place was a bit rundown. The pizza was amazing. I'd go again. Hell, The two of us should go there. Anyways, he told me his life story and all that jazz. we went to a creek and I don't know if it was love or whatever, but it was at that moment that I fell for him." There was a deep sigh. "And I kissed those amazing lips of his. I can't begin to tell you how amazing they are. Every kiss feels like..."

"OK!" I found myself cutting her off right there not wanting to know any more about that. "What about Ava? Weren't you setting her up on a date? How did that go?"

She took a moment to think about the question. "It'd hard to tell. She thought the guy was OK, which is better than her usual responses. She usually ends up hating every guy I set her up with. I honestly think this is the last time I set her up on a date."

With a large smile, I took another lick of my ice cream and spoke. "Now that makes for an interesting story." I paused for a moment. "I wonder if this is how great authors get their ideas."

"Barnes and Nobles is on the top floor if you're interested."

"Are you actually down to go to Barnes and Noble?"

Her hands took the rest of my ice cream cone. "Imagine all the books we can find. Especially if it's a YA Novel. You can show up at the office and make everyone read what you bought without having to watch any more movies. But it's not going to happen with you being a slow ice cream licker."

Yes, she, in fact, did finish my ice cream and we found ourselves walking to Barnes and Noble. My eyes had never seen such a large store full of books before. Don't get me wrong, I've been to Barnes and Noble, but it always seemed like there weren't this many books before. Giselle led me straight to the YA Section with hundreds of books on display.

"You interested in The Hunger Games?" she asked looking at a copy.

"I think I should find something a little more realistic if we're going to write something realistic."

We spent the next twenty minutes looking for the perfect book. Giselle wondered off a bit and came back with a book.

"You need this book," she joked. 'How to be the Perfect Wife.'

In response, I poked her arm as she laughed more leading me to smirk. Interestingly enough, she wanted to buy the book claiming she could be the perfect good wife for a bad boy like Ricky. Yes, she was a little crazy. We spent about another five minutes searching not really finding anything that could possibly stand out. That changed when I came across a couple of John Green Books which were 'Looking for Alaska' and 'An Abundance of Katherines.' Giselle also noticed 'The Fault in our Stars'. She seemed to be more interested in it than I was. My eyes were glued to both books not wanting to let go.

"What do you think. Do you think these could work? I remember reading 'Looking for Alaska.' It was good.

"I think so. Might as well buy more than one copy."
