iv.
I get that knot in my stomach every time that I see you, knowing how happy you make me and knowing that it's wrong.
Unconsciously picking at the pieces of fluff accumulating on his sweatpants, Rami zoned out the sounds of the city outside his hotel room window. His mind replayed his first encounter with the rebel that was Lucille over and over again, even though it had been weeks since. How he belittled himself over his actions. The way he stuttered like he was still a teenager. The way his hands started to sweat. The way his heart fluttered at the sight of her. The way the sound of her voice took his breath away.
He barely knew anything about this woman, but he couldn't deny the feelings he felt.
He had a hopeless crush on someone he had no chance with.
Why would a woman as unique and fascinating as Lucille Moreau find a dorky man like Rami Sebei attractive? She could get any man she wanted just by the snap of her fingers. Rami could never keep a woman's attention, always seeming to scare them off or come off as a complete nerd.
He tried to become generic, but that just hurt more. People fell in love with the generic side of him, but not the real him. He then tried to be himself, the energetic, music loving, ball of sunshine he always was. However, the love he received wasn't satisfying. It wasn't real love.
Real love is the one that makes you a better person, without changing you into someone other than yourself. But, where was his real love?
Rami let out a sigh as he returned to his senses. Closing his eyes, he fell back against his pillows, hoping that maybe he could sink down far enough into the mattress and disappear.
The click of the hotel room door opening caused him to open his eyes. Fergal smiled weakly towards his roommate and travel partner as he tossed his workout bag on his bed. His exposed body was covered with a thin veil of sweat. Rami felt worse as he looked between himself and his Irish friend.
Fergal was toned and fit. Rami had gained a couple pounds since his NXT days, causing him to lose a bit of his toned physique. Fergal was the type of man that women swooned over due to his looks. He wouldn't be surprised if Lucy found him more attractive.
"Ram, are you okay?" Fergal asked concerned as his friend's face showed signs of sadness.
Rami merely shrugged his shoulders and turned away from his friend. Fergal sighed as he sat on the end of his own bed.
This wasn't the first time he had seen the Canadian like this. After losing his title to his best friend and on-screen archenemy Kevin Steen back in NXT and when he went through his shoulder injury, Rami instantly shut down. He belittled himself, believing that he wasn't good enough. Fergal was always there to help pull him out of his funk, much like a life jacket in Rami's ocean of doubt.
"What's wrong?"
Rami let out a breath and rolled onto his stomach. Turning towards his friend, he rested his face in the crook of his elbow. His eyes filled with sadness.
"Lucille..."
"Lucille?" Fergal repeated, unsure if he heard him correctly.
"It's just that... I don't know..." He moved to rest the side of his head on his folded arms, looking up at his co-worker, "I've been feeling weird since she debuted. And I know it's irrational to feel the ways I do towards her because I literally know nothing about her. She's from Toronto, that's the most I know. Everything is telling me to try to make an effort to talk to her. But how can I rebound from the embarrassing first impression I gave her? I was stuttering like a madman. She probably thinks I'm a freak."
"Rami, do you believe in love at first sight?" Fergal asked simply, causing his friend's face to scrunch up in thought.
"I don't know. I think I've been hurt too many times to claim I do. I won't disregard the feelings I have for her, though. Maybe it is love, I just don't know."
"I'm going to give you some advice," He smiled and moved over to Rami's bed. Patting his shoulder, he sent him a reassuring smile, "If you are into this girl, then you need to man up and talk to her. None of this beating around the bush crap. But you also need to take into consideration your own career. You are in the mix for the Intercontinental Title for crying out loud. Let the pieces fall into place. You two are chasing two different dreams.
She's a revolutionist. You're an underdog.
Perhaps your paths will cross later in your career. You just have to be patient with somethings. She's still trying to get her bearings with the company, while you are trying to find your place on the main roster. Just don't rush into anything, okay?"
Even though it wasn't the answer he wanted to hear, Rami understood that it was what he needed to hear. Letting out a deep breath, he nodded into his arms. Fergal gave him a warm smile and patted his back. He then rose from the bed to take a shower, leaving Rami alone with his thoughts.
He understood that he had to take things slow, because relationships that started fast ended fast.
"The following contest is scheduled for one-fall." Joseann "JoJo" Offerman called from the center of the ring to the cheers of the crowd.
Behind the curtain, Lucy bounced on the balls of her feet and twisted her hands together nervously. She huffed out a breath as her opponent, Trinity "Naomi" Fatu, made her way over to the curtain. Followed by Mercedes "Sasha Banks" Kaestner-Varnado and Sarona "Tamina" Snuka-Polamalu, Trinity sent her opponent a thoughtful nod. Lucy nodded back in appreciation before the trio headed out.
Placing a hand under her chin to crack her neck once more, she moved towards the curtain and waited for her cue. Slowly letting out a breath, she calmed the storm of nerves that surrounded her. She licked her lips as she told herself to go out there and do what she did best.
Fight.
As her music started up, a smirk crossed her face.
"Let's go." She called out to herself, causing the others around her to smile. She pushed past curtains and rushed out to center stage.
"And her opponent: from Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Mykie!"
Throwing back her head in a powerful cry, the fans cheered in admiration for the spitfire Canadian. She adjusted her leather jacket around her before heading down to the ring. She reached her hand out towards the fans that she passed before rushing up onto the ring apron. With one leg outstretched and the other tucked under her, she surveyed the crowd and gave a wink to those in front of her. She then climbed the turnbuckles and ducked her head low before raising her arms to the side with the Rock 'n Roll gesture. (Her maneuver on the turnbuckle is what Mickie James does circa 2016)
As the bell rang, the two instantly locked up. Trinity found the upper hand by turning it into a side headlock. Lucy backed up towards the ropes and managed to push Trin off of her. As she bounced off the ropes back towards her, Lucy managed to knock her down with a leg lariat. With her opponent on the floor, the Canadian bounced off the opposite ropes for momentum. On the way back, Trin rose to her feet and jumped over her; when Lucy bounced off the opposite ropes, the Orlando native dropped to the ground to avoid an attack. However, Lucy countered by performing a cartwheel over her to stop herself. As her opponent rose to her feet, she was met with a powerful dropkick, knocking her out of the ring. The fans cheered at the abilities both women were showcasing.
Outside the ring, Trinity held her chest and tried to recuperate. She wasn't used to the fast paced style of the renegade. Mercedes and Sarona approached her, making sure their teammate was okay.
Back in the ring, Lucy looked to be summing up some energy from the crowd. Hopping slightly, she charged towards the opposite ropes before leaping over the top rope and hitting the trio with a Twisting Plancha. The fans roared as Lucy started to yell out in excitement, pumping them up.
Throwing her opponent back inside the ring, Lucy tried for a pin, but Trinity kicked out at one. She let out a breath before getting back to her feet. She then whipped her opponent towards the corner. As she charged at her, Trinity countered with a big boot to the head. Lucy held her face before she was attacked with a Somersault Clothesline. With her opponent on the floor, Trinity grabbed a handful of her hair and raised her to her feet. She proceeded to talk smack before hitting her with a Sitout Jawbreaker.
The powerful woman started to rain punches on Lucy's head, much to the cheers of her team. The referee, John Cone, constantly tried to get her off of her, but she would just go back to her attack. It got to the point where he stepped in and threatened to disqualify her if she didn't stop.
With his attention turned, Mercedes took the opportunity to slap the Canadian hard across the face; such revenge for taking away her shot at the title at Fastlane. The fans booed as Lucy fell back onto the mat dazed.
Grabbing her weak form and whipping her towards the turnbuckle, Trinity followed up the move by tackling Lucy's body further into the corner. She continued to push her further and further in until Cone separated her from the smaller girl. She yelled at him as Lucy's body limped against the corner.
Grabbing her arm and leg, Trinity pulled her into the center of the ring. She started to show off before wrapping her legs around her neck and hitting her with a hard Headscissor DDT. She confidently went for a pin, only to be surprised that Lucy barely got a shoulder up.
The fans screamed from the near fall, and the two women outside the ring couldn't believe their eyes. Trinity rose to yell at Cone yet again as Lucy crawled towards the ropes. She just barely managed to get to a knee when her opponent approached her. As she was grabbed by the hair, Lucy countered with a hard slap across the face. Trinity stood stunned as the fans roared.
Summing up the rest of her energy, Lucy grabbed ahold of Trity's head and hit her with a Standing Sitout Shiranui, which she called Dethroned. The fans' cheers practically blew the roof off of the place as the Toronto native just managed to get an arm over her opponent to get the pin before the other two could interfere.
"Here is your winner: Mykie!"
The victory was short lived, though, as the rest of Team B.A.D. rushed into the ring to attack the weak girl. Lucy tried her best to defend herself, but the numbers game quickly caught up to her.
Mercedes positioned herself behind the smaller girl and hit her with the Bank Statement. Sarona quickly followed up the attack by climbing the ropes and hitting her with a Frog Splash. To finish things off, Trinity stood in between the ropes and Lucy to hit her with a Splitlegged Moonsault.
The assault on Lucy was too much for her body to bare. Impact to her back and chest caused her to lay prone against the mat of the ring. The trio stood above her as Cone urged them out of the ring. Kicking up dust at her in disrespect, they obliged his orders and headed for the back.
The poisonous sounds of the fans worsened as the queen herself, Ashley, appeared at the top of the ramp. Applauding slowly, she thanked the team as they passed her. Lucy's upper body weight rested against her forearm as she stared down her future opponent. The moment was so tense it could be cut with a knife. With a wicked smirk, Ashley raised the Divas title over her head in triumph.
She would go down in history as the last Divas champion, but Lucy would do everything in her power to keep the "Genetically Superior" woman from becoming the first WWE Women's Champion.
With a flick of her blonde hair, Ashley turned on her heels and headed to the back. Cone, along with medical staff, started to check on the young woman's back and chest for possible injury. When they didn't find anything, they slowly helped her out of the ring. Supporting her by her stomach, she wrapped her arms around the men's necks as they assisted her towards the back. Fans rose to their feet and offered applause for their favorite revolutionist. She smiled and waved back meekly before pushing past the curtains.
After his own match, Rami mustered the rest of his strength to locate the battered Lucille. The thought of her being hurt caused his heart to sink. Even though he constantly repeated that he shouldn't be feeling the was he did towards her, he couldn't help himself.
Rami barely knew this girl, but to him she put the stars in the sky. She was something special, a treasure that he never wanted to lose sight of; for if he did, he would miss something magical.
Even though his body ached for rest, Rami's heart told him to continue his quest. To locate this woman and make sure she was okay. Getting confirmation would help relieve the pressures of his worries.
After ten minutes of searching, Rami finally spotted her. When he saw her, though, his breath caught in his throat.
Bundled up to take on the chills of the Minnesota air, she readjusted the Toronto Maple Leaf beanie on her head. Her smiled shined like a growing flame as she hooked her arms through the straps of her baby blue backpack. Allen, who was practically her sidekick at this point, smiled down at her in response. Words were exchanged between the two, but Rami couldn't make them out. His heart sank as he watched the older man lean over and place a kiss on her forehead.
Rami let out a sigh as he leaned against the wall of the arena. His heart ached with a pain he had experienced too many times before. The feelings of depression. He found it hard to wrap his mind around his feelings. It was then he noticed a tear fall from his eye. Mixing with the dried blood on his cheek, he was quick to wipe it away. Stupid emotions.
He guessed it was true: those with the biggest hearts felt the most pain.
Shaking his head slightly, Rami gave up in his advancements and started back towards the locker room.
Down the halls aways, Lucy noticed the faint sound of footsteps retreating. Looking over her shoulder, she spotted the tail end of the ginger leaving. Mixed emotions coursed through her body as many questions came to mind.
How long had he been standing there? And why was he there?
Before she could chase after him to ask him such questions, the feeling of Allen's hand in hers turned her attention. Looking up at the Southerner, his familiar smile caused one to form on her face as well. He started to lead her towards his rental car to start on their adventure towards the next city.
Her mind kept going back to the sight of Rami leaving. The checkered black and white pattern across his waist band. The trademark 'SZ' on his left leg. As charismatic as he was in the ring, Lucy wouldn't deny the shy and nervous nature of the Underdog. She felt herself smiling over the thought of it.
He was something different. A mix of one part innocence and sunshine, and two parts power and determination. It caught her eye the instant she saw him.
The corners of her mouth turned up into a smile as she thought of the man. Inside that pretty little mind of hers, a plan was hatching.
She was determined to tap into his potential and see what he could really do.
I hope you enjoyed. How did I do? Let me know in the comments. Thank you for reading. And until next time, heart you. <3
