Chapter Seven
It's Monday Flora's first day as a waitress in the hotels restaurant.
She was excited to start but not because of the job, but because of a certain someone she'll get to see all thanks to the job.
She quickly got dressed parking her newly made braid in a pony tail, she stared at the mirror and shook her head.
She made donut with the braid to look professional, she finished her light makeup and jelled the edges of her hair.
She admired herself in the mirror and skipped down to her kitchen.
"Good morning dad" she greeted her father with a kiss on the cheek before sitting on the glass dining table.
The maid served her her breakfast, which was pancakes with maple syrup and a cup of thick tea.
While a plate of Akara and a bowl of pap with milk was before her dad.
"With all this small small things you are eating how will you grow?" He smiled fondly at her
"Dad you know I hate being called short, and what I'm eating has nothing to do with my statue" she said in a whiney tune.
Her mom died when she was just nine years old and since then her dad took care of her and provided her will all the luxury she needed.
Whatever she wanted she got, no questions asked. That's why when she approached her dad about finding a job he vehemently refused but after much convincing he agreed to let her work wherever she wanted to for a month but after that she would quit and start learning all she needs to run his business.
She agreed to her fathers condition knowing that within a month she'll have accomplished her mission.
"If you say so" her father Mr.Adedotun alademomi answered.
He was the Top dog in the business industry, he owns almost all the five star hotels and restaurant in Lagos state, Oriental hotel being one of them, since Flora showed interest in wanting to work in that particularly hotel he wanted to make her the C.E.O but she insisted she wanted to start from the lowest rank and doesn't want her identity as his daughter to be disclosed.
Everyone knows him as a very strict and honest business man. He was the like the light that shined in the lifes of the orphans and homeless people of lagos state.
He had various N G.O's across the state and was known to be a cheerful giver.
"Okay dad I'm done, goodbye" she walked up to him and kissed him on the cheek.
"Take care and please don't stress yourself. If the job is too hard just quit and come straight home!" Her father said with a serious facial expression.
"I'll be okay dad" She laughed at his words and walked out.
She got to the gate and the cab she told the gateman to get for her was already waiting.
She had a bunch of cars that her dad bought for her but she couldn't go to work with any of them as they would raise questions.
She arrived to the office building and after paying the cab man made her way into the majestic building that belonged to her dad.
Throughout her shift she was very energetic and buzzing with happiness, everyone she came into contact with complimented her and all her coworkers adored her.
She was anxiously waiting for lunch period to come so she could see the person she longed for.
And just as she had anticipated when lunch period came, and in walked all the staff members but one stood out to her.
A huge smile graced her face as she walked up to him. She felt as though her face would spilt in two with how wide her smile was.
"What would you like to have sir?" She politely asked Dennis
He was not surprised to see her there, as he was sure that she would get the job since she performed so well in the interview.
"I would like to have ogbono soup with semo"He answered
She immediately rushed to the kitchen and told the others to plate the food before serving him.
"Enjoy your meal" she smiled at dennis and turned to walk away only to halt in her movement.
"Would you mind staying with me for a bit" She felt her heart beat increase and her hand got sweaty.
She swiftly wiped it on her trousers. She turned around and sat on the sit facing him.
She fiddled with her fingers and stared at her lap as she sucked her lower lip in a way she hoped was not noticeable.
They stared at one another for a few awkward minutes before Dennis cleared his throat.
"So I uhm....wanted to apologize for insulting you the day we met" She looked up at him with surprise written all over her face.
She though he forgot about that day. A smile started forming on her face bit she bit her lip to stop it.
She composed herself and started speaking. "You don't have to apologize for that, I understand you wanted to be alone but I kept getting in the way and for that I sincerely apologize" He felt touched by what she said and smiled a little.
If it were any other woman she would have insulted him for insulting her in public but she actually understood the reasons behind his action even though he didn't tell her.
She was definitely the kind of person he could see himself being friends with.
"Thank you for understanding Miss Flora" he smiled
She felt butterflies erupt in her stomache and a pleasurable feeling igniting throughout her body when he said her name.
She loved how her name flowed through his luscious lips. And she felt like a highschool girl who got to speak to her crush for the very first time.
"Please, Flora is just fine sir" she said with an evident blush on her cheeks.
"If that's all I would like to go back to my duty post" She said with a smile.
She was angry at herself for saying that but knows that it has to be done.
"Okay, I wouldn't want to be in the way, so yes, you are free to go back to your post" he gave her a sweet smile and proceeded to wash his hands in the bowl before him.
"Good day sir" she shyly smiled and scurried to the kitchen.
"Yes!" She whisper-shouted and fist bumped the air.
"Okay...that's weird even for you" Afolabi one of her coworkers commented
"Are you trying to say I'm weird" she said in fake hurt tune.
"Yes you are, I mean who works as a waitress in their dad's company" He whispered so only she can hear.
She laughed at that knowing fully well that he would ask that question at some point.
"Afolabi, even if I told you, you won't be able to understand" He looked at her and shook his head
"We've been friends since secondary school and I have never once guessed or understood what's going on in that tiny head of yours, so I'm not even going to try" She laughed at that and they went back to their duty posts.
