...their love...
Julian was laughing and Wynter was glaring at him. Having a swollen jaw had already put him in a sour mood and now watching his boyfriend laugh at him didn't make him feel any better. He pouted slightly and then hissed painfully when Julian slapped a pack of ice against his skin. Julian was still giggling slightly "You got into a fight?"
Wynter didn't say anything, choosing to continue his silent pouting. Julian smiled fondly and ruffled the other boy's dark hair "Who punched you?"
"Austin" Wynter mumbled, resting his head on Julian's lap. Julian was still holding ice against his jaw, on hearing this news the green eyed boy leaned over to look into the other boy's eyes.
This piece of information was surprising seeing as how the last time either of them had ever talked to each other had been four years ago. When puberty hit Austin...it hit him hard. He became one of the popular guys at school, all the girls wanted him...all the boys wanted to be him. Typical cliche. The last time Wynter had talked to Austin was at his mom's funeral. His last words to his best friend had been, I don't fucking need you. You can go stick your sympathies and feelings up your ass. Go away
Austin had punched him that day too. Wynter had just watched with emotionless features as his best friend had turned and walked off with tear-filled eyes. Wynter had wanted to stop him and beg him not to leave him alone. To ask him to tear the pain out of his heavy chest. To help him be light and care-free again. But Austin didn't stop because Wynter hadn't asked him to. And it was Wynter's fault, it always had been. So when he had seen Austin after school, standing near the gates, Wynter apologized. It wasn't a very special apology. He had just stood beside him quietly for a second before muttering two simple words.
"I'm sorry"
And the surprise on Austin Gold's face had made Wynter wonder if he had really hurt him that bad. His thoughts were confirmed a second later when a sudden blow to his jaw had caught him off guard. There had been tears in Austin's eyes "Fuck you and your ego and your self doubt, Wynter Black. What the fuck took you so long to apologise, you asshole? Three fucking years! Three fucking years I had to survive without your annoying ass. You have any idea what that does to a person?"
Austin had then hugged him tightly, ignoring all the looks in their direction. And Wynter had hugged him back with shivering breaths of disbelief. Disbelief that he was forgiven so easily. After all these years Austin Gold was still his best friend and will always be.
Julian smiled softly, placing a kiss on Wynter's cheek after listening to the very amusing rendition of the story from the dark haired boy. He was proud of Wynter for finally mending his mistakes. He couldn't be more happy. Wynter was finally starting to live. And Julian was dreading the day Wynter would finally realize he deserved better than some insecure boy who dyes his hair strawberry blond.
"Julian?"
"Wynter?"
"Why do you keep up with me?"
"Because I choose to" Julian answered, threading his fingers through Wynter's dark hair.
"Julian....when you finally realise that you deserve better...do you promise to not break my heart harshly? Just sit me down and give me the 'It's not you...it's me' speech and I'll understand"
Julian's fingers paused in Wynter's hair. His heart was breaking, and he felt the sudden urge to cry. Instead he leaned down to the other boy's ear with a forced smile "Are you trying to get rid of me already?"
Wynter chuckled loosely "God no....I'd bind my soul to yours if I could. I don't think I can live without you. It's pathetic how much I need you"
"Do you think I'm pathetic, Wynter?" Julian asked suddenly, closing his eyes when Wynter leaned up to pepper kisses on his jaw.
"No..." Wynter scrunched up his eyebrows in confusion.
" Good, because I need you more" Julian admitted, leaning down to catch Wynter's lips in a long kiss. He smiled into the kiss when the dark-haired boy stroked his cheek with his thumb slowly. Julian liked it when Wynter did that...all his past relationships had been too clumsy, too much about intimacy and sex. Wynter actually made him feel cared about and wanted. Wanted not only for his body. Wanted for who he was and who he was becoming. Julian Sanders was pretty sure he was falling in love.
"Hayden! Hayden! Hayden Hayden Hayden!"
Both the boys frowned and looked at each other in concern. Neither of them had called out Hayden's name and once they realised that Hayden was calling out her own name they both rolled off the couch and raced to the kitchen where Hayden was having her evening snacks.
"Julian! Do you like my name?" She demanded when she saw the green eyed boy.
"Of course, what's this about?" Julian asked.
"Olli says it's a name for boys" Hayden puffed her cheeks angrily.
"I really wanna punch this Olli kid" Wynter muttered, massaging his temples as he walked off, leaving Julian to deal with this.
Wynter sat in the living room, listening to the low murmurs and the soft assuring tone of Julian. Julian. Julian. Julian. Is this what love felt like? Everything in him was craving to be one with Julian. The boy who made him feel alive. For the first time in his life Wynter had someone to live for and it didn't even scare him. He could be on the top of the world, flying....or he could be underneath the surface, buried in water. And yet, everything he was made of....every cell and fiber and atom would still be saying Julian. Julian. Julian.
"Da-da? Julian says he's going to marry you one day" Hayden whispered in the dark, a few hours later as Wynter was trying to put her to sleep. The dark-haired boy just smiled and pressed a small kiss to his sister's head.
"You said you wanted that" He replied staring out of the window at a lone star in the night sky.
"I changed my mind. I wanna marry him. You can't" Hayden whined stubbornly.
"But I love him" Wynter tried to reason playfully, spreading his arms to the sides to depict his feelings,"This much!"
"Okay...I'll think about it" Hayden grumbled with an exaggerated pout, making her older brother laugh loudly.
He stood up when he heard the doorbell ring insistently. Julian had left about an hour ago with promises of returning a few hours later with icecream for Hayden...which was of no use since Hayden was already going to sleep but she appreciated the idea all the same. With a smile he hurried down the stairs, hoping to greet his boyfriend with a long kiss. He paused at the door. Julian had stopped ringing the doorbell long ago. He had the extra set of keys on him so why would he ring the bell? Could it be that he lost them?
Wynter cautiously pulled the door open and then sighed in relief when his view got blocked by shiny red hair. Reagan threw herself into his arms, legs going around his thighs since she was too short to wrap them around his waist. At 6'1, both Wynter and Julian were giants to a 5'4 Reagan.
Wynter smiled a little as she sniffed his shirt, "Was Julian here? You reek of his cologne...also I might've broken up with Ren out of impulse and I...Great! I'm crying again!" she bawled, clutching at Wynter's shirt and sobbing into it.
When Julian walked into the house a few minutes later, he scowled immediately. The theme song of Sofia the First was playing on full volume and he felt like ripping off his ears "What the heck are you watching? I thought Hayden was asleep...."
"Reagan is not" Wynter said, turning to look at the green eyed boy.
Reagan rushed into Julian's arms catching him off guard. Julian frowned for a second before hugging her back tightly. Reagan sniffled a little and looked up at him with teary eyes "I broke up with Ren"
"You what?" Julian demanded, half in shock as he tried to digest the news.
"I know! I don't know why I did it. I'm blaming my period for this. He hates me now. What do I do Jules?"
"Reagan chill. He doesn't hate you. Also...hate to break it to you but you didn't break up with him. You just yelled at him for not cuddling with you. It doesn't count as breaking up. He's coming over in a few minutes...okay? Now just lay down on the couch with Wynter and I'll make you something to eat okay?"
"I don't deserve you! You're the best!" Reagan said, her throat tightening suddenly. Tears flooded down her cheeks and she tried to hide them, failing miserably. Julian stroked her head and kissed her temple "It's alright. Go to sleep. You'll feel better"
Wynter watched as Julian walked off towards the kitchen. No one deserved Julian. He was a literal angel. The world didn't deserve someone like Julian Sanders. He was too good. Too pure for all the filthiness around him. Wynter wondered why Julian felt the need to degrade himself so much.
Reagan's head was on Wynter's chest and Julian was feeding her the instant noodles he had made a minute ago. They both were laughing about Ren's habit of squinting his eyes whenever he chewed on his food and Wynter was just watching them with a smile.
"And then Ren was like, Oh I'm sorry! I didn't know they had to give an interview for choosing to use public transport! Yes! This is Heidi and Felicity. They're a lesbian couple. A beautiful one at that and we all know you're just jealous that no one loved you like they love each other. And the dude just looked away. It was hilarious" Reagan erupted into laughter, hiccuping into Wynter's vibrating chest as he laughed along. Reagan had a way of making everything sound funny and it was a gift according to Wynter, because the last time he made a joke Julian and Ren stared at him blankly before shaking their heads in unison. In his defense, he didn't know that internet tips on how to start a conversation didn't work in the real world.
"Baby....you're zoning out a lot" Julian muttered concernedly into Wynter's ear a few minutes later. Reagan was asleep against his side and Julian was sitting next to him with TV remote in hand, searching for another zombie movie to watch. Wynter wondered how Julian hadn't already watched all the zombie movies in existence.
"Yeah it's just stuff. You're calling me baby....is that gonna become a thing now?" Wynter whispered, smirking playfully at his boyfriend. The other boy blushed and nodded before placing a quick kiss on Wynter's lips. Julian hardly blushed but when he did....Wynter's lips would lift up in a rare smile so full of pure happiness that it made Julian think that if he were to die the next minute, he wouldn't mind it if only this was the last thing he'd ever see.
A/N:
I know it's short...sorry. Also! Wynter made up with Aiden! That's great news....right?
And this a kind of a filler. Take it as a gift. Cuz shit is gonna go down next chapter onwards :)
