Chapter 2

First hour, Algebra II. God, can't this day be over so I can hide in my shadowy corner? The teacher, Ms. Lewis, just kept talking about herself and her husband, the entire damn hour. By the time the bell rang, all I could remember was the first date they had. Dear God, this was gonna get annoying. Someone get me out of here now!

As I was putting in my lock combination in, I heard shouts coming nearby. I stopped and decided to go and check it out. I turned the corner and saw that it was the girl from this morning. A kid took her books and wasn't giving them back.

"Aw," he mocked, "Wittle baby Kylie is crying that the big guy has her teeny weeny books. How sad."

He made a fake sad face at her. Kylie, I'm guessing that's her name, glared a terrifying glare at the kid. Oh God, she turned from a little angel in the morning, to a scary devil from hell.

"Andrew," she growled, getting all in his face. "I'm not saying this again. Give me my books, or else."

Andrew laughed.

"Or else, what? You're gonna tickle and dance around me until I get bored?"

"That's it."

She then spun in a circle and tripped Andrew with a hard kick. Kylie's books landed on his chest and he wheezed, as she grabbed her things and gave him one last kick. She smirked and headed off to her locker. Kylie then saw me. Her eyes widened with fear.

"You didn't see all that, did you?" she asked.

"Aside from the fact that you just kickflipped Andrew Banners, nothing," I said, trying to hide my shock.

"Well, frick," she mumbled, "Please don't tell anyone. Please?" Her eyes were begging themselves.

I sighed and rolled my eyes.

"I won't, seeing how you just about beat up Andrew."

Kylie let out a huge sigh.

"Oh thank God," she said, "I thought I'd be going to the guidance or something for that."

I nodded and headed to second hour. Sheesh, who knew that in P.E. that we'd be doing dodgeball. After that event, I'm pretty sure Andrew- who just walked in- is gonna be off his game. I glanced at him, and he caught sight of me.

"Hey, Keith," he said, "How's the darkness comin' along? Still hoping to die, someday?"

Holy shit, was this guy really that bad? I mean, yeah, I heard a lot of bad things about him, but this? That was just plain stupid.

"Ha ha, very funny," I said.

"Psh, first time I've heard an idiot like you talk. What? Did you get a girl to help you or something?"

I immediately looked at him. What was he talking about?

"What?" I blurted.

"I mean," he said, grabbing a basketball. "It's not like you're talking because you got out of your depression by yourself. There's gotta be something that helped you. Mark left, your parents divorced, and your pretty dog died, so I'd think that you got working on your flirting skills."

Before I could talk anymore, the bell rang, signalling that second hour started. How the hell did Kylie deal with this guy? After that hilarious outbreak with Banners getting flipped by a girl went out, it was just about the end of the day. I was walking outside into the horrible sunlight when I heard an instrument. I looked around, squinting and trying to look for the source of the music.

I turned my head one direction and saw someone with a black violin. Yeah, a black fucking violin! I walked closer to the person and saw that, yup you guessed it, was Kylie. She was playing Secrets by Onerepublic. Man, she knows how to play. Kylie then stood up and started dancing to her playing. Woah, you could do that? I mean, most times I've seen orchestra students play sitting down or standing up, not dancing around to the tune.

She spun around twice, and her eyes darted towards me. She put her bow down and put her violin to her side.

"Okay," she said, in a joking manner. "Are you some weird stalker kid? 'Cause, if that's the case, then I'm not someone you should put your focus on. Maybe some other girls but n-"

"Okay, okay," I said, holding my hand up. "I get it, but I'm not a damn stalker."

Her eyebrow raised.

"Um, if you want to speak to me, you better not swear. It's against the rules of being a human."

I looked at her confused.

"What the f-"

"Ap da da da!" she cut off. "No swearing!"

"Kylie-"

"I said no- wait." She looked to me with squinting eyes. "How do you know my name?"

"I heard Andrew say it!"

"Fair enough. But no swearing!"

Ugh, fine!" I yelled. "But don't get used to me agreeing on much."

She smiled her bright smile and started putting away her bow and violin. She zipped up her case and took her things. Her black backpack had an odd jingle to it. I studied it as she was putting it on, and I saw that she had these weird chain things on this backpack chain holder.

She had a key chain basketball, a bunch of disease ribbon things, like for breast cancer and alzheimer's, and a locket sort of thing. I wonder why she has all those things. Dear God, Keith, you're gonna lose your mind with your useless curiosity! Why do you always need to study every useless thing in the damn world?!

"If you're swearing in your head, then you can call that out too," Kylie said, reading my mind.

"How the h-"

She held a finger up to my lips.

"I have the power to read anything that come to your mind, young one," she said in a witch like voice.

I pushed off her finger from my face and glared at her.

"Whatever type of magic you did, it's freaky like you are."

She started chuckling from that.

"Freaky is the lowest bad thing I've been called today." Her face then went confused and she looked into space. "Wait, that's a double negative. I shouldn't used that." She looked to me again. "Let me rephrase that," she cleared her throat, "Freaky is the smallest thing I've ever been called. There, that's better."

I shook my head and began walking back home.

"Hey, wait!" she said, running after me, "I never got your name."

I stopped and glared at her. Her eyes remained the same happy joy in them. My God, this woman just would not get upset or down by anything. Finally I sighed.

"Keith. Keith Mirthful."

"Heh," she added, "Your last name doesn't fit your personality."

"Okay, can you shut the he-" I cleared my throat. "Can you just go!"

She smirked.

"Don't like to agree with my requests, huh? Because you just fixed yourself on not swearing."

It took me a while to notice that I did to that. With my confusion still on my face, Kylie giggled and skipped towards her house. Sheesh, what was this girl doing to me?
