Chapter 1

The scorching sun just hurt me on the outside. I adjusted my black sweater over my head, even through my sweat drenched hair, and slowly walked to the school's entrance. When I entered, I realized that it was still pretty early before classes started. The boring and soul killing classes. I took a seat in the cafeteria, and I stared off into space. All I could think of right now is how my life just about sucks the worst.

My parents got a divorce, my best friend moved away, and my dog died from a car accident. I could only see Dad once a month, and it sucked. I was really close to him. My mom wasn't as close to me as my dad was, so it's not the same.

My best friend, Mark, he was like a brother I never had. He moved away to New York at the last second. We had so many plans too. He hasn't called me since summer started.

Sophie, my dog, she and I were playing in the driveway when this huge truck just came into the street and ran her over. I just saw a bloody mess on the road, and a white dead dog. She was the last thing that reminded me of Dad too.

I was then brought out of my thoughts when I heard a series of giddy steps. I turned my head and saw a girl with long, dark brown hair, a pink t-shirt, gray sweater around her waist, and she was wearing black vans with some shorts. Her eyes were full of... something, I just didn't know what. They shone like emeralds being lit by a torch or lantern.

The main thing I noticed about the girl was her dancing. She bounced down the steps and danced her way towards the seat across from me. She set her black backpack to her side and placed her instrument case on the table. The girl then got out her phone and started smiling a bright smile. Sheesh, what made her so happy?

She got out a pair of neon green earbuds, and she put them into the phone. After a while, she started dancing again. The girl put her hands in the air, slightly, while shaking them around. Then, later, she got out a red folder, from her bookbag, and got out a purple mechanical pencil.

She bit the inside of her cheek, before scraping the lead onto the paper. I kept glancing back and forth between my phone screen and her drawing, and I ended up watching her draw the entire time. She was pretty good, to be honest. The girl was drawing a sketch of a woman. Her pencil went up and down, over and under, side to side, it was like watching a rollercoaster ride.

By the time she was done, a few other people came into the cafe to wait for the school bell to ring. The girl flips the picture upside down, which gave me a bit more to see. The woman had long hair, the same almond shaped eyes as the girl, her lips were thin, and her smile was just a happy as the girl's. I'm guess that was either her mom or a sibling.

Just then, as she was putting her drawing away, she caught me looking.

"Pretty cool, huh?" she said.

I looked up to her. Her small smile was cheery and full of hope. Her eyes were a shade of normal green, this time, and her black, square glasses were hanging a bit off the bridge of her nose, making her look older than she was. She was probably my age, or something. I looked back at her sketch and shrugged.

"It's cool," I said, blankly.

She tilted her head, and squinted her eyes at me. She then shook it off and put the picture back into her folder. I looked at what the folder was decorated with. It said Kylie's Gorgeous Drawing Folder in a curlier version of cursive, and along the sides was a huge heart chain. It had a canvas on an easel with a paintbrush and palette, and next to that was a picture of a realistic eye being drawn by a drawn in pencil. Now that was a folder of an artist.

"Hello?" she said, snapping her fingers in my face, "Is anyone in there?"

"Huh?" I said, getting out of my thoughts, "Yeah, there's someone here." I said that last part annoyed.

"Hmph," she said, "I didn't think you were the mean type. But then again, with that sweater over your head, you look like you came from a gang of emos."

I glared at her. The girl raised her hands in the air.

"Just sayin'" she said.

I growled at her just as the bell rang. Something about that girl was happy, but also annoying. Wait, why the hell was I thinking about her like that?! God damn it, Keith, falling for her already. Jesus, this is not like me at all.

(This was my first Works thing. It's something I worked on, a bit earlier. Hope you liked it!)
