Last Chapter

*Shadow's POV*
It was a quiet evening, and the sky was painted with soft hues of pink and orange. Sonic had no idea where I was taking him, but he trusted me enough to follow along. As we approached a secluded hill just outside of town, Sonic’s eyes widened. I was new to doing gestures like this, but I loved the way he reacted. It made me sure I was going to do things like these more often for him.

"Wow." He whispered while taking in the view of the city lights flickering below us.

I had set up a small picnic, like the first date we had together. It was nothing extravagant, but it meant a lot to us, just us and the endless sky above. I sat under a tree and folded my arms as I watched him. "I figured you'd like something simple. Away from all the chaos."

His family had not stopped bothering him even after Eggman had been defeated. He still had a lot of work at G.U.N. and at the castle. While at first I did not like working with him because of our break up, now I could not wait to be with him every single day. There was a smile where there hadn't been one in decades since I lost Maria. Every time I was with Sonic, it was as if nothing else mattered.

Sonic grinned, sitting down beside me and resting his head on my shoulder, I wrapped an arm around him, laying it on his waist. "This is really cool, Shadz. I love it."

My eyes met his, getting lost in those beautiful emerald green eyes I loved. I snapped out of it before I kissed him and leaned forward, reaching for the basket. I grabbed a chili dog and handed it to him, Sonic’s favorite. "You always forget to eat something after running around all day."

Sonic laughed as a response as he grabbed the chili dog and bumped his shoulder against mine. "I guess I've got you to remind me now."

For a moment, we ate in silence, the stars twinkling above us and the breeze hitting our fur. When we were done, we both laid down on the blanket I had set down for us. We looked up at the sky, feeling content in a way I hadn't felt in a long time.

I looked at Sonic, the smile coming back in my face as I saw him admiring the stars. His quills moving with the wind. He was smiling, the stars shining brightly in his eyes, as if he held the entire universe in them. He noticed me staring, and he turned to look at me, his smile only widening and his blush taking over his muzzle.

"What have you done to me?" I whispered, cupping his muzzle gently.

"I haven't done a thing, Shadz." Sonic laughed softly and leaned closer to where our noses touch.

"My mind clouds whenever you are around, I can't get you out of my head no matter how hard I try. I am not myself when you're around." I whispered, my voice barely audible.

"Is it so bad?" He hummed in response.

*Sonic's POV*
"No. I guess not." Shadows' smile was soft, warm, I loved it. "You're important to me."

My heart was racing a little faster than usual. "You too, Shadow."

I got closer to Shadow, reaching lower for his hand to hold it. He moved it to his chest as he held mine, interlocking our fingers. As I looked down, resting my head on his chest, I noticed something shining from the light of the moon. In his wrist, he wore something. It looked like it had been ripped and put back together. He wore the beaded bracelet I gave him except this time it didnt just have an 'S'. He added a beaded heart beside it and another red 'S' after it. Bringing a warmth feeling to my heart.

As the night grew darker, the world started to feel just a little smaller and a little more peaceful. Just for us.

"I love you, Shadow."

"I love you too, Sonic."

Our words hung in the air, mingling with the gentle breeze, as though the night itself was carrying our feelings far beyond the horizon. We laid there in silence, no more words needed, only the comfort of each other’s presence.

THE END!
