PART ONE; The K-Word

If you had known working with Miguel O'Hara would end up like this, you would've never signed up for the detective's exam. You have done countless challenging undercover operations before, but this one won first place.

You knew who Spiderman was under the mask, thanks to the unfortunate timing of being in an alleyway at the same time he de-transformed. Because of this connection, the NYPD has always used you as a link between them and Spiderman.

The mission was simple: go undercover as a couple and take down Miso Ayodele, a villain with a unique psychopathic power who has been known to target young couples.

Miguel had assisted on multiple operations before – helping take down everything from big-time drug lords to villains such as Mysterio and Electro. Since Ayodele wasn't a normal criminal, the NYPD gave you the assignment to work with Spiderman on.

But, it wouldn't be simple. It was never simple when it came to Miguel O'Hara, especially when you had been harboring a teensie weensie crush on him since the beginning.

"Look, if we're gonna make this work, our backstory has got to be air-tight," Miguel said as I joined him on your couch. You two decided to meet at your apartment to prepare for the undercover assignment.

"Agreed," You said, handing him a drink. "Okay, so first of all, what are our character's names?"

"Weren't you supposed to have already come up with this yourself?" Miguel said with a deadpan expression.

You rolled your eyes at him. "You're exhausting,"

"Ay dios mío, I'm not the undercover expert here," Miguel defended himself. "Why can't we just do Miguel and [Y/N]?"

"You know why, it could blow our cover," You said as if it was obvious, brainstorming for a moment. "Our names will be Oscar and Annabelle."

"Fine," Miguel said, taking a sip from his drink.

"So, how did Oscar and Annabelle meet?"

Miguel sighed. "At a barbecue,"

"That's lame," You said, after trying to consider it to be nice.

"You think you can do better?" Miguel said, getting fed up with the situation.

"Watch me," you said confidently. After thinking for a few moments, you had an idea.

"You were a customer at the bar I work at. You came in, looking for someone to hook up with one night to relax your mind, and I happened to return the flirting. When it came time for my break, we snuck into the bathroom. It got me so hot that we hooked up while people were just outside the door."

Miguel looked at you with a dumbfounded expression, his jaw slightly open. There was a slight tinge of pink appearing on his cheeks. The look was quickly wiped off his face when he noticed you staring.

"Okay," Miguel cleared his throat, trying to recover. "That– That's pretty good, actually."

"Thank you," you said, smirking proudly.

You both sat in silence for a few moments before Miguel spoke once again.

"So, look, we should probably, you know, talk about the elephant in the room."

"What do you mean?" You said, confused.

"Well, if we're gonna sell that we're actually boyfriend and girlfriend, then we might have to, uh...," Miguel shrugged, assuming what he was alluding to was obvious.

Trying to contain your laughter, you sat in silence as Miguel continued to stutter and avoid saying the k-word.

"Okay, okay," you laughed, deciding to save him from the embarrassment. "We might have to... kiss?"

He rolled his eyes at you, trying to remember why he even agreed to this. "Look, if you're going to make fun of me–"

You put your hand on his arm, silencing him. He looked at your hand, then glanced up into your eyes. You quickly removed your hand and decided the vase on the coffee table was suddenly very interesting to look at.

"You're right, I mean if we're gonna," you paused, still feeling anxious about the possibility of kissing the man sitting across from you. "If we're gonna have to kiss, it probably shouldn't be the first time, right?"

Miguel nodded awkwardly, the pink tinge appearing on his cheeks once more. Another few awkward moments occurred before he spoke up.

"Should we stand?"

Both of you stood up, now standing across from each other and avoiding eye contact. Your heart began to race. You had had dreams about kissing him... okay, not just about kissing him.

Your eyes slowly began to drift back up to look at him. Your eyes locked onto one another's as he slowly took a step forward. Sensing your hesitation, Miguel attempted to remove the awkwardness of the situation.

"We're professionals," Miguel said, taking another step forward. "We'll hopefully only have to do this once. Let's just get this over with."

Your demeanor faltered for a moment at the reminder that this is purely for work, not for personal feelings. You quickly put up a smile, hoping he didn't notice.

He did. In fact, he's been able to hear your pounding heartbeat since the conversation began, there was no hiding personal feelings when you were with someone with supernatural senses. However, Miguel, being the annoying ass that he was, decided to have a little fun and act as if he knew nothing.

"Right," You said, trying to move on. "Um, are you ready?"

Miguel nodded, and you stepped forward as he leaned down slightly. You craned your neck up and tried to ignore the clammy hands and the heat on her face.

You left a peck on his lips, then quickly backed away. You then saw a very confused Miguel towering over you.

"Lo siento, is that it?" Miguel asked, as if he had been expecting more.

You groaned. "You know what, if you're gonna criticize me–"

It happened before you could even take a breath.

Miguel had grabbed the back of your neck and connected both of your lips. Your entire body froze in shock. It wasn't until one of Miguel's hands moved to your waist and squeezed lightly that you even reacted.

The kiss continued as your hands moved up his chest and wrapped themselves around his neck. The hand that remained behind your neck moved to your cheek, pulling you closer.

What felt like heaven was interrupted at the sound of your front door being unlocked.

You quickly pushed Miguel off of you as your roommate walked in the door.

"Oh!! Um, I should probably go!" Kaia, your roommate, said as she practically began running out the door.

"No! No, this is work," You told Kaia, trying to save yourself. "We're going undercover as a couple and––"

"Hey, it's cool! You don't have to explain yourself," Kaia said, giving you a knowing look. "I should probably go,"

"No, I was about to head out anyway," Miguel said, grabbing his things and heading to the door.

Before leaving, Miguel turned to you with a slight smirk. "I'll see you tomorrow [Y/N]."
