Proposal
Christina didn't know what to think. Her Robbie was on his knees proposing to her. Was this for real?
"Well?" Robbie asked while gazing up into her eyes. "What do you say? Will you marry me?"
"No."
Robbie wasn't sure he heard her correctly. "Excuse me?"
Christina looked him straight in the eye. "No."
Robbie was confused for a moment before laughing. "Oh I get it. You're messing with me, right?"
Christina stood before him, arms firmly folded against her chest and slightly protruding belly. "No, I don't believe so. In fact I'm about as serious as death."
Robbie rose from his knees and stood eye level to her. "Is this some kind of hormone thing?" He asked. "I heard about pregnant women being all kinds of crazy. Is this one of those times?"
Christina shook her head and took a deep breath while resisting the strong urge to strangle her dumbass ignorant baby daddy. "Robbie," she said as calmly as she could. "you know I love you, but these little mistakes from your past are a problem."
Robbie looked confused. "How so?"
"The fact that you even have to ask that question tells me a lot." Christina said. "How many more of your girls are going to come out of the woodwork?"
"Okay but that Maddie situation wasn't my fault. She tried to pin a kid on me that wasn't even mine. She did the same thing to Colin. You saw that."
Christina sat down on the couch. Robbie followed her and took her hand in his.
"You got lucky this time but what about Lila and Denny and God knows who. What if one of them comes knocking on our door with another Robbie Junior? What am I supposed to think then?"
Good point. Robbie hadn't thought about that. "There's always plausible deniability." He said with a giggle. Christina had to slug him on the arm. "Ow!"
"Jesus, Robbie, seriously?"
"What? Can't I make a joke?"
Christina faced him. "See? There it is. You can't take anything serious. I am talking about your fucking past, literally fucking, and the consequences. I don't like the idea that Emmett could have siblings somewhere out there. You've been with a lot of women, and birth control isn't one hundred percent effective. I don't want a repeat of today. Do you understand?"
Robbie ducked his head. He understood exactly where she was coming from. If he had gotten every one of his exes pregnant, the amount of child support he would have to pay would beat the national debt. "I got it, babe."
Christina stood up. "I have to go take Sandy to the vet, then I'm going to run a few errands so I'll be back later."
"What about my proposal?" Robbie asked. "You know that I have never done that with anyone before."
Christina rolled her eyes. "I'm so flattered I'll just cry." She said. "I'll think about it for a while and get back to you. In the meantime, try not to knock up anybody while I'm gone."
With that Christina got her coat and purse. She put Sandy on her leash and guided her out of the apartment. Robbie sat there thinking. It was clear Christina didn't trust him. Dammit. He only had himself to blame.
Robbie went into his old bedroom, soon to be Emmett's. The walls were painted yellow, the baby dresser was already full with the baby's clothes and diapers. The crib wasn't assembled yet, it was still in the box. He was going to have to pay someone to fix that. No way in hell he was doing it. Building things were a pain in the ass with him. They never came out right anyway.
Robbie looked at one of Emmett's baby shirts. Christina was right. He wondered if there were any more kids out there he didn't know about. He sure as hell hoped not. He thought that he was safe by using protection but like she said, it wasn't one hundred percent effective. If that was the case he may as well not use anything. Go bareback. It's better anyway.
He thought about the proposal he made. What a waste. His first time proposing and she turned him down flat. Unbelievable! Women would kill each other for a chance to be married to him. What's the deal? He wondered if he should marry her. He did love her and she was his baby mama.
Then an idea came to him. A brilliant idea.
Yeah. Christina will love it.
Christina was at the agency taking some print shots. She was glad that her slightly protruding baby bump didn't interfere with her job. She was still able to get into the designer clothes. She didn't know what would happen when her belly grew larger. She should be glad she wasn't having twins.
She looked at her schedule. She saw that there was a new assignment for her. She had to report at an Italian restaurant for a photo shoot. Christina was surprised. It was the same restaurant Robbie had taken her to when he told her he wanted to be serious about their relationship. When they went to the next level. Christina smiled at the memory. That was a very special time for the both of them.
Christina stopped home to change and take care of Sandy. Then she rushed to the restaurant. It was around seven in the evening she noticed. She hoped they didn't keep her out too late. She had a long day and wanted to go to bed early. With her pregnancy she needed all the rest she could get.
Christina went straight to the restaurant. It was dark inside, and looked like no one was here. "Hello?" She clutched her bag and slowly entered the establishment.
Suddenly the lights came on, from the chandeliers that hung from the ceiling. There was a table in the middle of the room set for two. It was all lovely, but where was everybody, she wondered. Where was the photographer, the assistants, the other models if any? What was going on?
Just then Robbie walked in the room. He was dressed up in a grey suit and held a pink rose. Christina was surprised. Why was he at her photo shoot? Was he part of the assignment?
Robbie walked over to her. He gave the rose a kiss before handing it to her. Christina was a little touched by the romantic gesture.
"Robbie, what's happening?" She said.
Robbie took her hand and held it in his own. "Christina, I know you have your doubts about my commitment to you because of my past. I want to let you know that my past is firmly in the past."
Christina didn't know what to say. She was surprised at how serious he was.
"When that woman broke my heart," he said. "I swore that I would never fall in love with anyone. I was going to be the bad boy, the player. That was my motto, hit it and quit it. And it was fun, a lot of fun."
Christina was now confused. "I hope you're going somewhere with this, I really do."
"Oh, yeah, anyway. Even though I was having all that fun and all that sex, at the end of the day I was alone. I went to sleep alone, I woke up alone. I thought I didn't need anybody but I was just fooling myself."
Christina touched his cheek.
"When you came in my life," Robbie said. "You brought new light in it. I was actually looking forward to every new day with you, even when we were fighting. And now that we're together and have Emmett on the way, I want to make this official."
Christina could feel her heart beating a little faster. "What are you saying, Robbie?"
Robbie reached into his pocket and pulled out a small object. Then he knelt down on one knee and took her hand. "Christina Grayson, I want to spend the rest of my life with you. I will always be here for you no matter what. I will only be committed to you and our children. I promise that no other woman will come between us, ever. Will you marry me?"
Christina was truly touched. This was what she wanted. "Yes, Robert, I will."
Robbie was surprised. "Really?"
"Of course. I just wanted you to get your priorities straight, that's all. I just wanted your devotion."
"Phew! I am so glad you said yes. I rented this place for a couple of hours. I didn't forget that this was our special place. It would have been so awkward."
"While you're down there, can I have my ring now?"
Robbie laughed. He placed the ring on Christina's finger. She looked closely at it. It was a large sparkly diamond on a silver band. She held it up. She couldn't believe it. She was engaged.
"I hope you like it," Robbie grumbled. "I didn't exactly get it on sale, you know."
Christina laughed. "I love it! I love it!" She jumped into Robbie's arms and kissed him. "And I love you too."
"I love you, baby."
They kissed for a while. They couldn't believe that they finally made it to this stage of their love. Next stop, marriage.
"Hey," Robbie said. "You must be hungry. Let's go have some dinner, Mrs Kay."
"Yes, hubby."
