Meeting Him
"People fall in love in mysterious ways, maybe it's all part of a plan." Ed Sheeran, Thinking Out Loud
Christina was so excited about moving to Toronto. She had been signed to a top modeling agency, one that had launched the careers of several supermodels. She would be living in an amazing city. Plus she would be living in a spectacular apartment building. When she looked at the place online she was most impressed. The apartment was a spacious two bedroom suite with a single bathroom, a large kitchen and living room. It was also furnished as well as top line appliances. As if that didn't win her over it was pet friendly, which was the icing on the cake. Her puppy Sandy would be living there too.
A new apartment. A new career. A new life. She had a lot to look forward to.
She had it all planned. Once she was settled in, she was going to put all of her focus on her modeling career. It was her dream, her passion. She had wanted this so bad.
Christina pulled up in front of the building so she could unload her luggage. She had several bags. She still had to pick up Sandy from the kennels. The bags were heavy. Maybe the doorman could help her.
As she looked around, something caught her eye.
Or rather someone.
Just inside the glass door was a young man who was staring right at her. Really staring. He was leaning against the wall as he watched her with a slight smirk. He wasn't wearing a uniform so he couldn't be the doorman. His clothes were casual. There was something familiar about him though, she thought.
At first Christina flipped her hair and looked away. She was used to men staring at her constantly due to her striking looks. That's how she got into modeling in the first place. Why should this guy be any different? When she looked back at the man he winked at her, then continued with his brazen stare while leaning against the wall. His tongue flicked across his lips. What the hell?
Now Christina felt a little uneasy. His eyes never left her for a second. She heard that when someone stares at you, they either want two things and two things only.
One: They want to sleep with you.
Two: They want to murder you.
She hoped there was another reason for him.
Brushing her blond hair from her eyes, Christina hesitated. Did this guy belong in the building? The landlord had assured her when she signed the lease that the building was safe so she had nothing to worry about.
Grabbing her bags, Christina decided that she would rush across the lobby into the safety of the elevator before that guy could do whatever he had in mind. Taking a deep breath she raced across. She made it only a few steps before she tripped. One of her bags fell open, her belongings spilling out.
"Shit!" She couldn't believe this. Her first day in Toronto and she was about to be murdered. What a great day this was.
The young man rushed over. "Can I help?"
Christina noticed that he had a British accent. She also noticed that he had the greenest eyes she had ever seen.
But he was still a stranger. "No thank you," She did not want him to see her personal things like her lingerie, let alone touch them.
He was already bent over, picking up her brush, her makeup bag and of course her black Victoria's Secret bra.
"Oh my God, give me that!" She snatched it out of his hands. "Listen, I got this, thanks." She didn't miss the way he smirked when he saw the bra. She wanted to die, she was so mortified. What a great way to start her new life. She avoided his eyes as she finished packing.
"I'm sorry," he said, touching her arm. "I didn't mean to embarrass you. Let me make it up to you. How about lunch?"
Christina avoided his gaze. "No thanks."
"A girl's gotta eat, right? We can go to Five Guys, their burgers are the best. It's right down the street. What do you say?"
Christina looked at him for the first time. She should be suspicious. He didn't seem to fit the profile of a serial killer. His brownish hair was combed to the side. His face was round and smooth, and rather nice looking. There was a hint of wickedness in his eyes and smile. It intrigued her.
"I don't even know your name." She demurred.
The guy rolled his eyes. "Oh silly me," he scoffed. "Where are my manners?" He held out his hand. "I'm Robbie. Robbie Kay."
Christina smiled. "Okay." Now she knew why he looked so familiar. "You're on Once Upon A Time. You're amazing on there, by the way."
"Thank you." he returned the smile.
As she took his hand Christina could feel herself weakening. "I'm Christina Grayson." she managed to say.
Robbie gave her hand a gentle squeeze. "Christina, what a pretty name." He kissed the back of her hand, his eyes never leaving hers. "A pleasure."
Christina tried to compose herself. She had seen plenty of players in her career, and he definitely seemed like one.
Robbie straightened up, his hand still holding hers. "So how about that lunch?"
"I still have to unpack and get settled in." She said, feeling how warm his hand was. "I don't know."
"You have to eat sometime, love." His green eyes gazed into hers.
"I don't even know you."
"You know my name."
"That's about it."
Robbie laughed. "Come on, have lunch with me. You can get to know me. It's not every day I see a pretty girl in my building."
Christina caught that last part. "You live here?"
"Just moved in yesterday. So what do you say?"
Christina looked at her bags. "I still have to unpack."
"Just put them in storage over there, they'll be safe." Robbie picked up a couple of her bags.
Later they went over to Five Guys, taking a secluded table in the corner. Robbie ordered cheeseburgers for both of them. "How do you like yours?"
"With onions but I prefer them raw." Christina said.
Robbie nodded. "Let me get mine with everything. And two cokes." He turned his attention to her as the waiter left to fill their orders. "So, tell me all about you, Christina. What do you do?"
"I'm a model," Christina said. "I just signed with Royalty Modeling Agency."
"Fascinating." Robbie smiled. "I wouldn't mind seeing. . . your. . .work."
He was so wicked, Christina thought. "What about you? What do you do?"
Robbie took a bite. "I'm an actor. I'm working on a TV show right now, that's why I came here to Toronto."
Christina was impressed. She thought he looked familiar.
"Where are you from, love?"
"Florida."
"I've been there for work," Robbie said. "I would love to go there for pleasure."
Christina observed the way his full lips formed the words "pleasure", his tone implying something naughty, and the way his eyebrows raised up.
Nervously she shook her head and took a sip of her coke. Keep it together, she thought. "So where are you from?"
"England."
They hung out at the restaurant, making small talk about their jobs and the city. Then Robbie took her back to the apartment building where he helped with her bags.
"So where are you staying, love?" He asked.
"I'm on the tenth floor." Christina answered.
"What a coincidence. So am I." Robbie smiled at her. "Looks like we're neighbors."
Christina gave a nervous laugh. The idea of living with this wicked hot guy made her heart flutter. It went faster when they stood close together in the elevator. She could smell his cologne, feel his body heat.
When they arrived at the tenth floor Christina looked for her apartment number.
"Here it is," she pointed. "Ten E, right here." She fumbled through her handbag for the keys. She couldn't wait to soak in the tub and crash. It had been a long day.
Suddenly she heard a crash. Christina looked up into Robbie's glaring face. It frightened her. He had dropped her bags on the floor.
"What?" she asked. "Why did you do that?"
"Are you fucking kidding me?" Robbie demanded.
"What? I thought you were going to help with my bags."
He snorted. "The hell I will."
"What's your problem?"
Robbie moved closer to her, so close they were almost nose to nose. Christina backed up against the door, a little afraid of him. He looked like he wanted to strangle her. What happened to that guy that was sweet talking her earlier?
"Sweetie," Robbie said in a low voice. "This is not your apartment. It's mine."
