Chapter 16

Emma's P.O.V

Shit!

I cursed aloud, kicking one of the isolated stones in frustration. It was one of our friend's birthday today and we were on our way to surprise him. And for our luck, my car broke down in the middle of no where.

"Great! Now what are we supposed to do?", Alisa wailed dramatically.

"Sit here and lay eggs?", Jesse suggested with a smirk.

I couldn't help but snigger at Jesse's comment amidst all the tension.

"Haha! Very funny! Remind me to laugh tomorrow?", Alisa sneered back.

Sky ignored the two of them and approached me.

"What has gone wrong?", She asked me, her face masked with concern.

"The belt of the steering wheel is not intact. It's hard for us to fix it because we aren't used to these type of work. We need a mechanic", I told her, sighing in frustration for the umpteenth time.

"We can't even see a house for miles from here. How are we going to find one?", Jesse asked as she shot a teasing smile towards a now pale Alisa.

Jesse had a point. The road was deserted on either sides. Vehicles rarely went by this road. And calling a mechanic from back home would't work because it would get him around three hours to get here. By that time we would have already been roasted and toasted under the scorching noon sun.

"We've got only one option", I told my friends with my hands on my hips.

They all gave me a questioning look.

"We need to give away our surprise visit and call Adam to come assist us with a mechanic since his house is only half an hour away. Is that okay with you guys?", I asked them with my eyebrow raised.

"Okay!", Alisa was the first to blurt.

She then quickly slammed her mouth shut with her hands as her eyes widened in horror. Unfortunately for her, she realized her blunder too late.

We all glared and pretended to be disappointed at her, making her blush furiously in embarrassment.

"What? I was just being logical", was her nervous reply as she raised her hands in surrender.

I couldn't help but chuckle as the rest shook their heads in amusement.

Alisa and her frantics.

"I'll call him", Sky told as she took her mobile out.

I nodded at her.

No matter how badly we didn't want to, we had no choice. We had to call him. He was our last resort.

I sighed dejectedly and looked around at everyone.

"Till he arrives, I'll give it a try", I told them as I rolled up the sleeves of my navy blue shirt.

"I'll help", Jesse said excitedly.

I shot her a greatful smile as she tagged along.

"Can you go get the torch from the back?", I asked her as I examined the insides of the bonnet.

Jesse projected the beam of torch light towards the mechanism as I somehow managed to remove the belt which was trapped in the middle of nowhere. Thank God! The belt was unharmed. We just had to fix it so that it stays intact around the wheel which was the hardest part.

"Adam said that he will come", Sky told, peeping over my shoulder.

I nodded at her and kept trying to fix it, but to no avail, my effort was all a waste. My hands were greased and sweat poured down my forehead. I was too concentrated on my work that I completely missed Alisa shouting.

"Guys! A black car is heading this way!"

Then followed the sound of a vehicle door slamming shut.

"How can I help you ladies?", I heard a musculine voice ask my friends.

I turned around to see a man casually dressed in a black t-shirt and blue jeans. He should be around his mid-thirties. He was averagely okay looking.

Alisa jumped in front and explained him, batting her eyelashes now and then. The man was trying his best to ignore her sexiness and to focus on the matter at hand. But to his dismay, he was failing terribly.

His face was now flushed with heat, turning it into a bright shade of red.

I watched the whole scene unfold as my body shook with silent laughter. I bit my lips to stop myself from laughing aloud for the poor man's sake.

I feel for him.

When Alissa targets a person, she doesn't let go that easily.

A sound errupted from the man's trouser, waking him from Alissa's charm, making a now disappointed Alissa to huff and glare at the guy's phone childishly.

"Sir-", he turned away from Alissa and looked ahead as he spoke into his phone in a low voice.

I followed his gaze to see a black car and a jeep parked one after another in the opposite side of the road. I wonder whose vehicle might that be.

"Ma'am may I look into the bonnet", I was cut off from my thoughts as the man walked towards me.

I nodded and moved aside to let him move closer towards the car.

"Do you have key 13 in your tool kit?", the man asked as he inspected the area.

I nodded at him and got him the key he wanted. Jesse continued holding the torch light for him.

"Hey guys!", we heard a familiar voice from behind.

I turned around to see Adam with another man on his side. Adam hugged me and the others as soon as we turned.

"Oh! You found a mechanic?", he asked in disappointment as he stared at the man working on my car.

"Yeah, this nice guy decided to be our saviour of the day", Alisa told as she pointed towards the man.

I punched Adam on the arm and dragged his attention towards me.

"Your expression seemed like as if you didn't won't us to find a mechanic", I stated with my eyebrow raised and arms crossed over my chest.

He rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly.

"Yeah! I wanted to be my friends' knight in shining armour for once!", he told us with a lopsided grin as he wrapped one of his gigantic arms around my waist.

I playfully glared at him and tried removing his arm which was now glued to my waist as the sound of a throat being cleared was heard from behind.

Our heads simultaneously snapped towards the source to watch a man clad in an expensive black suit with black shades walk towards us.

I heard Alisa gasp from behind making me mentally roll my eyes.

I could see the reason behind her dramatic behaviour and I can't kind of blame her too. The man was definitely the definition of hot.

He looked like as if he popped out from one of those cover pages of a model magazine.

Yet, she didn't have to show how affected she was that dramatically.

I watched him stop a few feet away from me. My eyes narrowed as it took in his features once more. Now at a closer look, he looked vaguely familiar, yet I couldn't put my finger on where or when I had seen him.

His shades hid his eyes making it hard for me to realize at whom he was looking, eventhough he was standing right infront of me.

I watched him remove his shades slowly only for me to stare at the familiar striking blue orbs which were now piercing into my emerald green ones making me almost go dumbfounded with surprise.

IT'S HIM! IT'S HIM! IT'S HIM!

My mind chanted mercilessly.

"I know!", I snapped back at my inner-voice, silencing it forever.

I paid attention to him, but this time with a glare only for his lips to twitch upwards into a cocky smirk.

That arrogant son of a-

I stopped myself from cursing further as I clenched my fists in irritation.

It isn't fair to curse his parents simply because their son turned out to be a pigheaded ass.

I mentally sighed.

You must have already figured out who it is while watching me rile up with so many emotions within a minute. Only one person can stir the inner-beast in me that quickly.

Yes. You are right.

It's none other than the billionaire, Mr. Cayden Martinez, my sole enemy.

His eyes drilled into mine as he watched me intently. Seeing that I wasn't planning to drop my glaring façade any sooner, his  blue whirlpool like orbs next wandered to Adam and then to his hand wrapped around my waist.

A flicker of rage flashed across his eyes in lightening speed, making me almost think that I was hallucinating. One moment his eyes were burning with fury and then in a time span of a millisecond they turn back to their usual empty stoicism.

"John, is it over? We are running out of time", his cold voice rang with authority sending chills down my spine.

"It's done Sir", the man working on my car straightened up as he dusted his hands and turned around to face us.

"Mr. John, thank you for helping us out", I told him as he started walking towards his vehicle.

"Ah no problem. It was my pleasure. Actually, you need to thank my boss- Mr. Martinez. If not for him, I wouldn't have stepped out of the vehicle to help you out", John said with a genuine smile.

I looked at Mr. Martinez to see him climbing inside his car. I ran up to the car and knocked on the driver's side window.

He rolled down the window with his eyebrow raised.

"Thank you", I told him with a genuine smile and turned to leave when he caught me by my elbow.

I felt sparks and electric jolts flying at the little skin contact making me freeze on the spot. I ignored the foreign feeling and turned to face him, utterly confused.

"Was that your boyfriend?", he asked, his eyes portraying an unreadable emotion as his grip tightened around my arm.

I looked straight into his eyes trying to decipher the meaning of his words when my eyes lit up in realization.

My lips tugged into a smug smile.

"What if it is?", I asked him with my eyebrow raised smugly.

And the next thing I knew was a cloud of dust blowing on my face as his car whizzed by, leaving a trail of dirt behind.

Cayden's P.O.V

RED!

ALL I COULD SEE WAS RED!

Anger surged through my veins like never before.

CRUNCH!

"Tell me!"

CRUNCH!

"Tell me!"

I punched the man's face over and over again. His face was soaked in blood. In a matter of seconds he will be dead.

I don't care!

These punches gave me the satisfaction like never before.

"Boss! You will kill him! We need answers!", Someone said with panic evident in his voice as he caught me by my hand, stopping me from punching the now groaning bastard.

I turned around and gave that someone a body numbing glare. His eyes widened in fear as he immediately let go of my hand. I looked at the victim to see that he was coughing out blood. I took out a handkerchief from my pocket and rapped it around my bloodied knuckle.

"Take him to our dungeon and make sure that he gives out answers before he dies", I told my men as I stepped out of the building to head home.

I sighed in frustration as I stepped on the gas. I've never got my hands dirty on jobless bastards like him. My men would always do the work for me. But, today the amount of anger that I was feeling was immeasurable.

It was all because of her.

My grip on the steering wheel tightened as I remembered her smug reply.

DAMN IT! Don't tell me that I'm falling for that idiotic girl. I gritted my teeth as I took out my phone and dialed a number.

"Wyatt, I need you to find out everything about Emma Parker", I spat out as soon as I heard his voice from the other side.
