Before the fall
Blood.
Screams.
Dust.
That's what covered the battlefield before the weary King of Monsters. Before him was a human, their soul full of crimson red determination. Both were panting and gripping their weapons with white knuckles, or as white as blood soaked fur could get. Tightening his grip, the large goat-like monster growls as the human before him straightens and points his sword at him with a terrifying smile. "You never had a chance." He said, bringing his sword back to his side and grasping it with both hands. "So, why do you still fight, KING ASGORE DREEMUR?" The human says the last part with a sneer, causing Asgore to glare at him in rage.
Bright red appears in his peripheral vision, and the King gasps. He raises his large red trident in defense, blocking the magic attack with a grunt. A laugh causes him to turn his head as the male that was before him is now above him, coming down fast with his sword. "This ends NOW you pathetic King!" The King feels fear in his heart until a familiar blue rushes towards him from the left.
As the sword crashes down, the impact creates a small crater beneath the group and sends dust and debris everywhere. A cloud of smoke surrounds them. As it starts to dissipate from the fighting around them, the human is spotted, his red eyes glinting from under his shaggy brown hair. Still gripping his sword and gasping for air, the human chuckles. Then, he bursts out into a full laugh filled with crazed rage. "Finally! It's over!" He glares through the smoke, hoping that the object stopping his sword was the dust of the 'former' King of Monsters.
"King Asgore is not dead."
A female voice says while a wall of scales appear from the smoke. The human's grin turns to a frown in an instant as his sword was merely resting inside said wall. "What?!" He shouts, struggling to rip it out. On the opposite side, a blue scaled, purple haired monster stands just in front of Asgore, arm up to hold the wall steady. "My King, are you alright?" She asks, her single blue eye flashing while the other was covered by long bangs. Her hair was up in a ponytail and she was wearing blood covered silver armour bearing the crest of monster kind. Asgore nods and stands. "I am now. Thank you Avia."
The monster, Avia, nods, her snout twisting into a grimace as the wall shakes. "How? How?! HOW?!" The human shouts, still struggling to release his sword from the grasp of the wall. Avia groans and hisses in pain, making Asgore look her over more closely. He takes a deep breath as he realizes the sword wasn't just stuck in the wall, but was stuck in the half dragon monster's side. With a final pull, the human yanks his sword out with a shout. At the sight of the blood dripping from the end, he laughs even louder. "You fool!"
Avia, once the sword is removed from her side and armor, collapses, still barely able to keep her magic up to protect them from any further attack. "Avia!" Two voices shout together, one Asgore's and one a deeper female voice. As the King rushes in to help, another blue scaled monster, this one sporting red hair, dashes in front of him, having just relieved another human of their head with a bright blue magic spear. Placing a hand on the arm of Avia that was still raised to keep the wall there, she uses her free hand to steady the wounded monster. "Damn it, you stubborn winged reptile." She says, inspecting the wound. Her yellow eye flashes in worry while the other is covered by a patch.
"Sorry, Captain Undyne. I couldn't let him kill Asgore." Avia says with a slight cough, red dripping from her mouth. Her tail shutters in pain, as it slides closer to her against the ground. Undyne glares at her. "I told you to be careful, little sister. Why don't you ever listen!" She helps up Avia while sending a large spear through the wall, impaling the human male as he was preparing to demolish the wall of scales. With a gargled gasp, he falls back and takes his final, pain filled breath. As the spear fades, the wall of scales collapse, fading into thin air. "Avia!" Undyne shouts, picking up the wounded monster and holding her like a child in her arms. Avia, with a weak smile, gazes at her older sister. "I'm not dead, not yet." A small bar appears above a shining, upside down purple heart. A small section was yellow while the rest was an empty red.
Undyne's eye widens, and she gazes at Asgore with worry. "We have to retreat. We lost this one, sire!" Asgore nods in defeat, but releases a mighty roar. Every monster's head perks up before they all begin to race the opposite way of the battle. Undyne nods solemnly before taking off so fast that a tiny crater is all that's left in the spot she was just at. Holding her younger sibling as close as she could, she whispers, "I won't let you dust, Avia. Not today, not ever. Hang on!" Avia grunts in reply, closing her good eye as to not get dizzy from the blur around them as they race back to the large mountain in the distance. She gently wraps her tail around Undyne's leg with practiced ease, not causing either to fall.
The sound of extra footsteps causes Avia to gaze behind Undyne's back as they retreat. She gasps at the sight of the magicians chasing them, using their magic to boost their speed. Something glints against the sun and before Avia can warn her sister, Undyne releases a shout as an arrow slices against the side of her ankle.
With a yell, Avia reaches out to brace herself against the ground as they both fall and tumble across the field, finally coming to a sliding stop. Undyne was laying on her back, eye shut in pain while Avia was on her stomach, trying desperately to push herself up as the pounding sound of feet grow louder. "Undyne..." She huffs, gazing in worry. Undyne's eye flashes open and she flips over quickly and begins to stand. A sword stops her movement, resting gently beneath her chin.
"Well, well, well. Undyne, isn't it?" The man before them, his dark hair gently moving in the breeze, makes a tsk sound. "Forcing a retreat, not the brightest move." He says, gesturing behind him. Not only were most of the monster's now captured by the remaining wizards, King Asgore was on his knees with two swords barely resting against his neck. His face is full of defeat and worry while gazing at Avia. Undyne gazes over. Her sister was currently being forced to stand, a dagger slightly slicing through the scales on her neck. She howls in pain. Undyne makes a move to help, but the man slams the hilt of his sword in her face, sending her staggering back.
Holding her face, blood seeps from her small nose into her hand as she removes it. She snarls at the man and he laughs. "What? You think you can do anything?" He raises his sword. "You had no chance." As he brings it down, Undyne instantly counters with her spear. "I disagree, you FILTH!" She pushes his sword back and turns to strike, but he dodges and slices sideways. With ease, Undyne jumps back before summoning a barrage of spears against him. He raises a wall of green to protect him as his soul shows itself.
This fight continues as both humans and monsters watch, their two strongest warriors battling it out for the fate of monster and human kind. Just as it seems like Undyne is going to win, another howl of pain stops her spear just above the man's soul. Her head whips up in fear as blood drips down Avia's neck. As the spear shakes, the man below her grins and sends a large blast of green against Undyne's chest, launching the Captain of the Royal guard back with a shout of rage. Slamming onto her back, each monster gasps as she flips backwards from the impact, then crashes onto her stomach and finally stops.
"Undyne!" Avia shouts, trying to move in vain. The woman holding her laughs. "You're pathetic, you know that?" The glow from the blade brightens as more blood seeps onto it. Slowly, Avia's health bar begins to drop again. Undyne slowly pushes herself up, stopping she the end of the sword rests against her chin once more. "If you had only surrendered none of this would have happened." Undyne gazes at the man, hate filling her eyes. "Never." She says. Her sister watches in horror as the man lifts his sword, knowing Undyne didn't have the strength to protect herself.
Undyne closes her eye, accepting her fate and each monster does the same to honor their friend who's dying breath will also be their last. The sword whistles in the wind as it slices down. Another shriek echoes around just as it is about to collide with Undyne's neck. The man gazes up in Avia's direction, but is unable to speak as sudden light fills his vision. A single yell escapes his lips before everything falls silent again, except the soft sizzle of ashes left in the man's spot.
Undyne gazes up in shock and shouts. "Avia!" Her sister was standing tall, wings sprouting from her back and tail lashing angrily behind her. Her armour was new, with thicker metal and extra spikes on the shoulder pads. Her wound was gone, and her hidden eye was now shining purple as her bangs were flying in the wind from the blast. Her arm was extended and a large floating dragon-like skull was hovering next to it, smoke emitting from it's jaws. Teeth bared, Avia lowers her arm, and the blaster disappears, revealing the woman lying dead behind her, multiple scales embedded in her body.
Undyne, over her shock, only gazes at her sister in worry now. Avia walks over and extends an arm to Undyne, which the later takes and stands. "Don't worry about me." Avia says, straightening the gloves on her clawed hands. "I know how to eject a soul, remember?" Undyne nods, and turns towards the pile of dust, which now only housed a floating green soul. Before any of the humans react, she absorbs it, and transforms into her own amplified state, armor spiking more on the shoulders and her own hidden eye flashing a bright yellow. With one look at each other, both raise their arms and two large blasters form behind each while large spears appear in their hands out of thin air.
Turning back to back, they point their spears at the humans holding King Asgore hostage, fear filling their small eyes. "Release him now!" Avia shouts. "Or suffer a fate worse than theirs." Undyne finishes, gesturing to the pile of ashes next to her while Avia moves her free hand towards the impaled woman. The human's eye both wearily before attacking, raising their own swords while archers back them up with arrows already flying towards them. Both sisters smirk and whisper
"Wrong choice."
All four blasters fire, two vaporizing the rushing swordsmen, two nearly missing the archers as they jump out of the way, clutching different parts of their body in pain. With enraged shouts, both sister launch into battle, forcing away humans to allow the monsters to retreat. Blasters fired left and right, their whirrs and explosion echoing across the world. Blood splattered everywhere and human screams joined the chorus. By the time the humans sound their own retreat, over half were unable to do so; either they were nothing but singed ashes or impaled beyond recognition.
Gasping for air, Undyne and Avia stand with spears in hand incase any decide to turn back and fight. Luckily, no humans do and they both grin in pride. Furred hands gently lay on their shoulders as a deep voice booms behind them. "Learn to not underestimate us, you unholy humans!" The King of monsters then pats both shoulders and smiles down at the two. "We may now leave. Everyone left has been accounted for thanks to you two." Undyne grins while Avia frowns. "I should have done this sooner." She says, gazing around at the dust covered battlefield. Undyne lays a hand on her sister's face and turns it towards her own.
"We can't save everyone all the time." Undyne's eyes blink at her Avia. "But, we can celebrate with those we can, and have." Avia nods her thanks and the three turn to leave. Unfortunately, one human lying in the field wasn't as dead as they had wished to believe. Just as Undyne and Avia released the souls inside of them, this wizard stands, shakily wielding a bow and a single arrow, tipped with a deadly poison. She knocks the arrow on the bow string then takes aim and Undyne, then Asgore, then finally leaves her sights on Avia. "Not without you...." She says.
Releasing the arrow, Avia whips around at the sound. She spots the arrow, but is unable to raise any defense in time. She tries to move out of the way, but even if she could, it wouldn't do much. As it begins to touch her chest, hands grasp each shoulder and instantly all three are no longer there and the arrow flies harmlessly through the air. With a huff, the human drops her bow first, then falls to her knees in defeat. "No..." She says, just before her last breath escapes her lips.
Arriving at the entrance of the Underground, King Asgore, Undyne, and Avia take a deep breath, slightly shaken at the teleportation. Avia turns to gaze at whoever it was that saved her, and smiles as a small skeleton in a blue hoodie grins back at her. "Thank you, Sans." She says, and Undyne rushes over. She picks up the skeleton named Sans in a large hug before placing him down and scolding him. "I told you not to come out without armor! You only have one HP!" Sans shrugs. "I guess I forgot since I was working myself 'down to the bone' to save you three." Undyne growls, but soon smiles and laughs. "Whatever. Don't pull that stunt again, okay? Even if it is to save this stubborn reptile."
Avia 'humph!'s at Undyne and walks over with King Asgore to the skeleton. "I learned from you." She says, shoving Undyne aside and Asgore chuckles before urging them inside. "C'mon. We have a celebration to host and...." Asgore leaves the funerals out of the moment for now, and everyone nods in understanding before walking in. Falling back to walk with the skeleton, Avia gently shoves him. "Thanks again, Sans. I would have been dust." She rubs her chest where she could still faintly feel the arrow stating to stab through her scales. Sans shrugs again. "It's no problem, really. Can't have my star pupil dusting right before me." Avia grins and Sans' smile grows wider. "Enough of that, I'm on break now. Let's just go tell the others about the win." Avia nods and both continue to walk into the ruins, glad to home once again.
