A Human Has Arrived
Avia launches up. "Have the other humans been warned?" Her tail flicks in worry. The other fallen children lived with the Dreemur's in the castle, which was far from the Ruins, but she always thought the worst of those who fall at first. Candara shakes her head. "We haven't been able to send anyone yet. Oh, Avia, Gaster...." Her voice shakes, and Gaster rushes over to comfort his sister. "What is it?" Taking a shaky breath, Candara stands, green tears staining her skull. "Th-This human.... This child....." She turns to Avia with fear in her eye sockets.
"Dust follows them wherever they go.."
Avia's body grows cold.
Gaster growls. "Where is Undyne currently?" His sister shakes her head. "I don't know, I don't know! Avia, you have to come a-" Gaster instantly steps between the two. "No. She is not fit for active duty right now." Avia's snout curls up as she snarls at him. "Neither are those who lost their lives in the ruins!" The doctor's head turns towards her, hearing the slight drop in pitch as she finished her sentence. "Don't you understand, Gaster?" She grabs his collar and drags him close. "Don't you know what time it is?!"
Sudden realization crosses his face, and horror floods over. "Oh no...." Releasing him, Avia quickly wipes a tear away before stepping past him onto Candara's raft. "You get Undyne and my armor, and meet us at Grillby's." She straightens and forms a spear in her hand. "I will go see.... if she is..... still alive...." She finishes with a shaky breath and Gaster only nods before vanishing.
Candara turns to the boat's head that was watching the whole scene carefully. "Mrrrow..?" Candara walks up to his head and pats it carefully. "Yes. Take us back now, Moku." The boat nods, and swiftly leaves the shore, heading towards colder waters.
Turning to Avia, who was now sitting on the end of the boat, her legs crossed, she asks, "What did he mean by not "fit for active duty"? What happened in the last battle?" Avia makes a "heh" noise, and barely turns her head. A shiny streak is seen leaving her eye. "I got stabbed pretty badly, then went Genocidal. I was actually able to control it completely this time." She turns back towards the water. "But, for some reason, my HP will not rise passed 50."
Raising her left arm, her soul appears, and Candara gasps. She had never actually seen it before.
The upside-down heart was dim, and the gashes across the left side were beginning to spread again. The bar above it was barely 1/4 of the way full. Barely. With a hiss, Avia grasps her chest and her soul disappears. Candara is instantly by her side. "Maybe WingDings was right. You shou-"
"No."
Avia opens her eye and turns towards Candara, who was wide socket and surprised. "I have to protect those monsters." Suddenly, she smiles and lays her clawed hand on Candara's shoulder. "But, I cannot do it alone." The skeleton's face instantly brightens, and as she stands, she offers a boney hand to the dragon. Taking it, Avia stands snout to skull with her friend. "Consider me your 'Wing-Woman'." Avia smiles and Candara snickers.
Moku makes a 'yip' like noise, signalling that they had arrived in Snowdin. Giving her boat one last scratch on his head, Candara rushes off after Avia, who had jumped off before they arrived. As Avia reaches the fork in the road, she speeds right, rushing through the frantic Snowdin. There was a certain feeling in the air as every monster from the small town was speeding the other way. They had something on them that was darker than snow, but only ever so slightly.
Candara, confused, quickly stops someone who nearly slammed straight into her. "What's happening? What's going on!?" The monster says nothing, shaking and crying and trying to breathe normally. Candara asks again, more stern and holding them a little tighter on the shoulders. "Why are you running!?" The monster, barely able to speak, stutters out...
"Dust..... N-Nothing b-but d-d-dust.... h-he's...."
Candara's eye sockets widen, and before she could question further, a scream breaks through the air. The monster in her grasp quickly slips away, scooping up a smaller monster child in the process. Candara quickly races towards the scream. Fear fills her, and she can feel her soul beating at a million miles per second. As she bursts through the crowd, the sight before her leaves her sockets wide and her voice gone.
A young child with piercing red eyes, straight, short brown hair, and a dust covered knife in hand stands before a kneeled Avia, who was currently between said child and Monster Kid. As Avia gazes up at the murderous child, she says something inaudible to Monster Kid, which makes the kid turn tail and dash past Candara, tears welling in his eyes. He mutters something along the lines of "It's my fault", but Candara hears nothing.
Slowly, Avia stands, gripping her chest with one arm. Blood covers said arm and a small puddle is forming in the snow at her feet. Towering over the child, she gazes down at them, speaking. The child says nothing after, but instead takes a step back. Candara quickly snaps out of her trance as Avia takes a step back as well, spear forming in her free hand.
"Avia!"
Turning her head towards the noise, Avia's eye falls on Candara, the blood on her jaw dripping to the ground below. The minute her gazes is off the child, searing pain floods her chest, and Candara screams in rage and terror.
Eye wide, the dragoness's head turns slowly back towards the kid before lowering to the large blade stuck in the center of her chest. Red slowly slithers down from the wound, pooling up on Avia's arm that was covering a large gash below the blade. Turning her eye back to the child whose hand was firmly around the hilt of the blade, she growls, then sputters up more blood. When the red liquid makes contact with the human's skin, the skin seems to bubble, and the grin on its face twists instantly into pain. As they retract, Avia stumbles back and lifts her free arm, palm facing the human.
As the human turns its gaze back to Avia, fear splashes over it's face. A scream barely leaves its mouth before it is vaporized by a beam of light. As the skull closes its jaws, its eye worriedly turns towards its master, who lowers her arm slowly, painfully. Cringing in pain, Avia grasps the hilt of the blade, hissing as the pain radiates over her body. Slowly, she starts to pull the blade out, then she quickens the move and tosses the blade aside. With a cough and back step, she turns to Candara, who had fallen to her knees earlier.
With a soft smile, revealing her blood stained teeth, the dragoness attempts to walk over towards her skeleton friend. Before she can take another step, her leg gives out and she falls. However, her blaster never disappeared, and it quickly opens its jaw to catch the young warrior. Instantly, Candara rushes over, shouting her dying friend's name.
A blur was all Avia could see, but she instantly recognized the voice and eye sockets of Candara. A bony hand takes her clawed one and squeezes. "Hold on, Avia! Just.... J-Just hold on!" Taking a deep, ragged breath, Avia blinks a few times before closing her eyes as a darker blue monster slides into view. "No! NO! Avia, hold on! Gaster's almost.... No, No! Don't leave us now! Avia!"
Slowly, the voices fade. Frantic yelling turns into a soft hum, and the cold air against her scales slowly grows colder and colder. When she opens her eye again, she sees nothing, and closes it once more, taking a finally, deep, smooth breath.
