Chapter 54 - Chapter 58

Chapter 54 – Making Progress (Chelsea's POV)

I was sleeping then felt the bed dip, it was still dark and without opening my eyes I assumed that it was Ava crawling into my bed once again. Swinging around to get off the bed stumbling I heard a voice, not belonging to Ava, "What's the matter Chelsea?" Gabriel whispered.

My eyes flashed open and three things happened at once, I screamed, tripped over my own two feet, fell and Gabriel spoke, "Oh shit! I'm sorry baby!" He apologized.

"What are you doing here?" I whisper shouted, until I realized I had no reason to do that. Checking my clock I saw it was 4a.m.

I had great night vision, as I'm sure Gabriel had, yet he reached over to turn on the side lamp, and then rolled to face me. He laid his head down and surprised me, "I just... once Andrew and Ethan started improving... I just did not want for you to think we had problems, build walls... pull away..." he said but sounded so out of his element at the moment but I could not help the smile that was forming on my face.

"You aren't mad?" I questioned in a small voice.

He shook his head, "It felt off and knowing you can heal them I wanted a quick fix solution but I'm happy you stood your ground and didn't come," he said chuckling after.

"God! You are nothing like Maggie!" I could only gasp and look at him in shock.

"Fuck, sorry, I just meant that she was such a puppet, Love," he explained but I'm not sure he understood how I saw this. If she was a puppet his father trained her to be that way. I could remember the night I met him, telling me how Scarlet, Ames, Maggie and himself trained to take over positions when the time came. Yet what I was thinking isn't what I said next.

"Do you miss her?" I blurted out without thinking. No filter.

It was Gabe's turn to look shocked, "God no," he breathed, "you were meant for me Chelsea. Even Oscar thinks that you're good and just right for me," he said, I only gave him a look that I hope he understood meant 'explain!'

"Everyone knows that mates are meant to complete and compliment each other. Right?"

I nodded.

"I'm not comparing you to Maggie but she was just as impulsive as I was Chelsea, but you..." he sighed then remained silent.

"You are not like that, you aren't the type to just run in guns blazing into the show. You think quickly on your feet, and most importantly... you look at situations from all angles. You do not make excuses, or look past anyone. I understand why you did not want to come, but what I felt worse about was that I knew it felt wrong Chelsea, but I continued and look at what happened?" he said and that confused me.

"So you felt bad that I stuck and held my ground, but you did not?" I wanted him to clarify.

He chuckled then rolled onto his back, "No, I felt bad that you had to remind me that if something feels off, then you need to think, reevaluate and change the plan. You reminded me that things are not always black and white."

Groaning and furiously rubbing his hands over his face, "Dad has let things get slack," turning back to me, I remained silent. Gabriel propped his head up on his left hand watching me. No, not watching, he was looking, searching for something and heaved a heavy sigh when he found it.

"We were at the dock, the guy we have the 'in' with went missing. A new guy was there. He was creating problems, wanted a bigger pay off than our original guy. Ames was supposed to go but sent someone else, when the problem was being cleared up, Mark, that's the guy Ames sent, called me. Said this new guy Oliver, wanted to make his own deal, wanted a larger cut. From the moment we got in the car that felt off, because Carl that's the man that we had an agreement with, he has a family and knew we would be keeping tabs not just on him but them as well. In the car we called his home pretending to be his boss and his wife said worriedly that he hadn't been home since three days ago," he explained.

"When we arrived at the shipment yard the fight we were expecting with this Oliver person was non-existent, he didn't seem right but this was an important shipment. We all followed him, he led us to the trailer and we were attacked," he said getting angry, not that I blamed him.

"There were signs Chelsea..." he closed his eyes and I knew he was somewhere else in his head right now.

"Oliver, the new guy kept shooting glances at the men I brought with me, he didn't expect them. Hindsight? It was because it undermined his plan."

"So Ames was supposed to go, instead he sent Mark to meet Carl but instead Oliver is there," I said aloud but I was already formulating potential end games. Gabe could tell.

"You have theories," he stated, I just smiled and nodded.

"Me too."

"This feels like the work of an amateur. They were counting and planned on too many truths," he puzzled me, so I remained silent. The truth was I did not know much about this life; Gabriel knew and began explaining.

"Truths. Things we did not change. Three men, lower henchmen go to the shipyard, pick up the shipment. When they get what they were instructed to gather, a fourth and fifth man comes to pay. It's clockwork. They had seven men with them plus Oliver makes eight. It was only luck that on my way I asked the fourth and fifth man to come in with us. That made it eight men to our three that pick up the shipment, the fifth and fourth man, Oscar, Rico, Saul, James and myself. Andrew and Ethan came with me, but they weren't armed," he said, and once again it hit me hard that if he did not, on the fly, ask Oscar, Rico, Saul and James to come along he would probably not be in my bed right now.

"Long story short," I whispered, "you have a mole."

He searched my eyes again; "you mentioned that over the phone. How did you come up with that?"

"I'm pretty biased Gabriel, I find it hard to trust people, your mom gets attacked then at night you have trouble? Your moms' attack was meant as a distraction. You would be too unorganized to come prepared. You said this shipment was important, they knew you wouldn't change your plans. That or if you think these people were amateurs, one could have nothing to do with the other just a moment of opportunity. You guys weren't panicked or unplanned, I healed your mom and no one knew that," I rambled, and then willed myself to stop talking. His face was holding various expressions.

I could read his mind. I could go in and take his thoughts but life would be boring if anyone or I constantly did that. Yet, when he looked at me as he was now, well, I wanted to be selfish and take them. Art of conversation be damned.

"There was so much that I wanted to change with my old pack and the family business," he said pulling me from my inner musings.

"If things were different, and I'm not saying this to guilt you okay? But you were, no, are the perfect person to stand by my side to have achieved those things, to make the changes that needed to be made," he said. It dawned on me that Gabriel had a talent for saying and revealing so much, while still being cryptic. Because, all he said was that one thing and to me it explained many things as well as comforted me.

We didn't speak for some time until he did.

"I've got to go Love," he said getting up, I felt... empty. Not being around him made me feel lonely.

He is your mate Chelsea, but you feel that way not because of the mate bond but because you've accepted him in your heart... Aria thought to me.

"I'm exhausted and need to sleep. I just wanted to clear the air between us, I didn't want this to fester," he said.

"You can stay," I said shyly, but sure that I wanted him to stay with me.

"If you w-want to that is, I mean," I added on after.

Fish out of water, mouth gaping and eyes blinking wildly is what I received from him. Then it was I to be surprised.

It was as if he thought the offer would be revoked if he didn't act and accept, because within five seconds Gabriel had removed his shirt, jeans, socks and hopped into my bed to a giggling me.

Pulling me close, I went stiff, tensed but slowly relaxed in his arms but now I was very aware that I was in loose shirt, cotton boy shorts and Gabriel in some Calvin Klein boxers.

My chest was beating double time at the moment, my skin was on fire but I didn't know what to do or even if I wanted anything more than Gabriel to hold me.

"I want to kiss you," he whispered, his eyes flickering between my lips and eyes gauging my reaction.

"I want you to kiss me," I breathed, and just like that, his lips were on my, slowly mine molded to his.

I just could not concentrate; my attention was being pulled in so many directions. He pulled me close, his naked chest right against mine, tongue swiped against my bottom lip wanting entrance. My limbs moving of their own accord, my leg hitched over his waist, hands, and one on his chest the other gripping tightly onto his hair. I pulled away needing to breath, gasping but loving that his lips never left my body.

Rolling onto his back, bringing me on top of him, one hand slipped underneath my shirt and the other brought my head down to his, my lips back to his. I had never felt this way before, I burned everywhere, but unlike when other people touched me, I loved it. We were frantic, only sound was the two of us breathing, moaning into each other and I sensed, and then felt Gabriel run his hands up my thigh then joining his other hand underneath my shirt, calloused fingers gliding softly on, over my ribs. Slowly they went to the underhand side of my breasts, towards my back and fingers grazed over the scars from the beatings Leo gave me.

His lips disappeared and my eyes snapped open when I heard him growl, eyes black but not with lust, anger. I tensed and immediately he softened.

"Can I see them?" he asked carefully.

I just nodded, I hated those scars, and they were ugly and a constant reminder of my shortcomings.

But Gabriel is my mate and its unconditional love, right?

Mate will not judge... I heard in my head from Aria and Avena.

I moved, no longer straddling him and lifted my hands up towards the ceiling, slowly keeping eye contact, he reached for the bottom of my shirt pulling it off slowly leaving my completely topless. Based on movies, and having no point of reference I anticipated that he would touch my front somehow, but instead he kept eye contact and spoke, "Lay on your front," he whispered.

I did what he said, resting my head on my hands. Eyes watching him still as he laid on his side and brought his right hand down, tracing the scars, then slowly, sweetly, carefully began to kiss every inch of my back. Ghosting his fingers near my ribs, then down my spine. I wasn't sure anything could feel so good; I closed my eyes in complete and total bliss and relaxation.

Last thing I remember was Gabriel's moist lips kissing my back softly.

"Sleep baby," I thought I heard but could be wrong.

Chapter 55 – Making Sense PT1. (Gabriel's POV)

"Sleep baby," I whispered, I hadn't mean to wake her up but I wanted to make sure she knew that her coming, well, not coming did not mean that I was angry with her.

Before I left to handle this deal things were coming along, she was opening up to me and I didn't want that to be all for nothing.

That I was going to ignore or break this off because she didn't come running like a trained dog when I called.

Watching sleep take her over, I continued rubbing my hand over her back, inspecting, tracing, using the small beauty marks; freckles on her back to play connect the dots.

Feeling the scars, seeing them, made me realize once again that my girl had every single reason to want to be cautious.

Chelsea was different than Scarlet, Madeline, Maggie and Audrey. Hindsight is 20/20, all the signs are there, Chelsea has a secret, a monumentally large one, which I should know, but I don't because of my actions.

I wanted to know, of course but I also knew that trust is earned. That first night she was ready and prepared to give it willingly but I caused her to retract.

Right now at this moment, he face relaxed she looked younger than her already adolescent age of seventeen. I would gain her trust though, not demand it, ultimatums did not work well with Chelsea. While I gained that trust though, I just hoped that my manhood didn't fall off. Chelsea was too sexy for her own damned good. I was horny as hell and if this was any other woman, I wouldn't care; we would be on round two; I never actually slept next to the different women I've been with intimately.

I wasn't stupid, my mind was not deluded, Chelsea was not ready; I was paying attention to all and every single clue now.

Not a single good thing could come from being with her like that at this moment. Fucking because we lust each other wouldn't help her trust issues or my impulsiveness. I've had meaningless flings, I wanted more than that with Chelsea; she was worth more than that.

I wanted to do this right, date her, have intense make out sessions, romance her, learn her, care for her heart, show her that I could do that, then care for her body. Why? Truth is I never had those things but I wanted them with Chelsea, I wanted her to have good memories, be a bit normal. Plus it just made sense... I couldn't be this same guy with her.

Chelsea is my future.

My future.

* Flashback *

This pack hospital was not the best but for right now... right now my brothers being here... they were going to have to do because we couldn't leave.

Waiting for my parents at the elevator, the minute it opened my mother greeted the Alpha.

"Alpha Rosa" my mother and father greeted and I was surprised he stuck around but he appeared different, preoccupied.

"Can you bring me to our boys?" my father asked him.

"Of course Alpha Romano," he said then continued walking but then I noticed that he had more guards than normal.

"Did you bring your healer?" he asked not too conversationally.

He wants our mate!!Max growled in my head.

I growled, but Oscar held me at the elbow "my mate is not a healer Alpha Rosa," I spat.

"No?" he asked walking into the room my brothers were in, clearly he was not leaving and was then joined by his wife and mate.

"She's my mate and she's not coming," I said, the Luna growled, Alpha hissed at her. Following, I saw a look pass between Alpha Rosa and his mate, but it was gone quickly. The Luna was just going to leave but the Alpha leaned back against the wall, my mother opened her purse frantically. Pulling out she pulled out little capsules, as well as two syringes she handed one to dad.

"George, directly into the IV needle, it's a central line, use all three of them," mom said and then Alpha Rosa watched the vitals machine my brothers were both hooked up too.

"Is that your blood Alpha Romano?" Alpha Rosa asked, but he knew it wasn't my dad because all wolves have their own smell specifically as well as the hint of werewolf. I could see Oscar glancing at me from the side, I could no longer hear my old pack or my uncle but I could most definitely read his face. I felt ashamed. This was about Chelsea.

"No that's the blood of my mate," I answered, watching the Alpha who did not remove his eyes from the vitals machine. My brothers were already showing signs of improvement their heart rates steadily increasing.

"With your brothers injured she only sent blood?" he asked trying to make my Chelsea look bad. Surprising the hell out of me, it was James that defended her. I would put that information aside for later.

"She's at home with their daughter."

"Daughter?" the Luna said, her voice laced in disbelief.

"She killed Maggie and you leave her with your late mates child's?" Luna Rosa asked shocked but she gave too much away. The hand Oscar had on my elbow increased in pressure.

"Since you know of Maggie's death," James spat, " then of course you know that Maggie and Gabriel didn't have a child together, Luna Rosa," he finished.

I needed to get the hell out of this place; it felt like I couldn't breathe. My mother and father seemed oblivious to the tension steadily growing. Me, all I could think about was getting to Chelsea. Back to Ava.

As the thought was fresh, a nurse and doctor came into the room, shocked at my brothers 'remarkable progress' and wheeled them back into surgery.

"Mom, Dad, I'm going home..." I said heading out back to my car, dad following James as well as Rico, Saul and me. Oscar, staying back with my mother.

"God DAMNIT!!" I screamed hitting the trunk with closed fists.

"Gabriel?" I heard dad, but I was seeing red.

"This was a set up dad!" I shouted. He shook his head at me, God, he had really, truly gotten soft.

"No you were just ambushed... that's all!"

Mate was right... smart not to follow us up here...

"Anymore or any one else injured they are on their own. Chelseas' gift? No longer an option dad. This. Was. The. Last. Time."

"She's really gotten to you? Hasn't she son?" he asked, indignant, teasing. The nerve. No more. His sons are going to live, and my mate is the reason why but instead of opening his eyes, thanking her; he still sees her as the enemy.

"Her blood is saving your sons' lives," I reminded him.

He... They are not going to see this Gabriel... my wolf thought.

Who am I supposed to trust if not my family? I thought to myself.

Your mate! She is your future. She made a decision and took a risk tonight by sending her blood Gabriel. She put a target on HER back for you! Max growled.

Leaving dad I went into my car, James sitting in the back with me, Saul driving, Rico in the passenger front seat. I was fuming.

"By dad, keep me updated!" I shut the door.

"Go Saul." I growled.

* End Flashback *

I pulled the covers over us to her mid back, relaxing, taking her in. If she had come to the territory would we both be right here? Right now as we were?

No but you aren't the only one that believes that, Max says.

He was right... after the car ride home I started to have things finally fall into place.

This relationship was a first for me, and it was hard. Hard because my whole life has been about helping the family, being there for the family, and every other aspect in life was either not as important or irrelevant to the big picture. Family first. I was going to make mistakes and if Chelsea could understand that, not hold things against me from here on out, we could be okay; we would be okay.

* Flashback *

Silent.

Tense.

Almost 30 minutes of it and we still had two hours of driving back to Los Angeles to do.

"Okay if no one wants to say it, I will. This was a... a- planned organized setup!" James said next to me, yet no one spoke.

So James rambled on, "When has Alpha Rosa ever had so many guards escorting him? Especially when dealing with us..."

"Luna Rosa? She growled when you said Chelsea wasn't coming? I know you heard that?" he demanded an answer but I couldn't give one I felt much too weak. Pathetic.

"They knew of Maggie's death and that it came, or was carried out by Chelsea!" No one answered. I could see Saul watching me in the rearview mirror but I leaned my head back, watched traffic instead.

"Then the way he watched the machines...I thought for sure that he would kill or attack your parents, treaty they have in place be damned," he exclaimed, then someone besides him made a comment that hadn't crossed my mind per se.

"James man! We get it! Set-up. Chelsea was what they wanted. More important though, what we should be worrying about was why? Why did they want her? She's strong and can heal... Alpha Rosa already has a mate so we know that's not the reason. His wife, she seemed upset... she wanted Chelsea as well... why?" Saul theorized.

"Do they have anyone that's sick?" I finally spoke.

"No they don't" said James, no one spoke after that for almost forty minutes.

"Just be happy that your Chelsea refused to come when you called" James said breaking the silence once again. Although it clearly told me that what happened back there was a big problem. If it weren't it would be easy to let go...

James hesitated, "She wants to be left alone for a reason and her father dying and moving here... you have to see things her way Gabriel. If my daughter were a white wolf, I'd never tell anyone. Why? That's the only way I know for sure, that I could protect her. Then add to it that Chelsea is naturally beautiful, intelligent, caring and motherly..." he shuddered, shaking his head.

"I would do anything in my power to protect her Gabriel! Anything. I wouldn't have asked her to put herself at risk to help my family. You wanted fast results and recovery and if it weren't for the simple fact that Chelsea is seriously the most cynical person she would have came running."

"Point blank? She doesn't always see the best in people because sometimes there is no best," said Rico.

"Yeah man, things have gotten sloppy with your dad. Don't drag Chelsea into this now," James whispered, then did something shocking and handed me his phone with a message already typed out.

I'M LOYAL TO YOUR FAMILY, TO YOUR DAD AND TO YOU TOO. BUT DON'T LET THEM USE YOUR MATE AS A BARGAINING CHIP. SHE IS YOUR FUTURE, KEEP THAT IN YOUR MIND, FOCUS ON IT WHEN MAKING DECISIONS NOW.

After reading I handed him his phone back, James was right and I hated that it took this happening for me to actually see it. But I- I just needed to talk to Chelsea because I have never had a relationship like this before. With Maggie we were pushed together, anyone else that I may have eventually felt something for dad sent away or they lost interest when they themselves interacted with my small group.

"Aye, drop me off at Chelsea's" I said knowing we had at least another 30 minutes before we made it home.

"Your dad's not doing Chelsea and you any favors!" James said.

"Right!" Rico said instantly, they knew something.

"What?"

Shaking his head, James answered, "Well your dad got us but the four he's bringing over..." he drifted off.

"Just spit it the fuck out!" I said agitated, I wanted to be back with Chelsea already, Max agreeing with me.

"Well, David, Anton, Geo and Francesca."

"Fuck," I groaned.

"Honestly I think he wanted Geo because he knew you two work good together but Francesca is the best female we have over in Italy and if Geo is coming she wanted to come with her brother. They don't know that it's to keep your mate safe though, they wanted to come over no questions asked," Rico finished explaining.

"Yeah but my father knew I had a thing with Cesca going-" Saul interrupted me.

"First mistake, well unless you want your little mate to reject you is to call Francesca, Francesca. No little pet names."

Rico laughed, "Please that is and I stress if, Chelsea approves her... Samuel is as good as any of them and you heard Chelsea put him out, then he still had the balls to reject his mate. Dumbass!"

Stay away from Francesca Gabriel! I only want Chelsea! Max growled at me, which was pointless because I only wanted Chelsea.

"Wait! Hold the fucking train!" I did not know this.

"Samuel? My brother rejected his mate? Jamie?" I said surprised wanting confirmation from Rico.

"Yeah, wanted that boy to pick between Chelsea and him like that was the smart adult thing to do."

"How do you know this?" I asked Rico.

"When Jamie went to walk him out after you went to talk to your girl, I went for a smoke, over heard Sammy boy giving Jamie that fucked up ultimatum. I mean the girl only just saved your mate's life and you what? Want him to pick you... " Rico carried on speaking, but I could only lean my head back at what I learned.

"What did Jamie say?" I questioned, and then snorted. I couldn't believe all this gossiping I was doing but I could not figure out Sam's end game here.

"Said nothing,"

"Wait, what?"

"I'm not joking Gabriel, he said nothing. Just said "huh," then went quiet and Sammy did the whole rejection spiel."

"He always wanted a mate..." James answered saying exactly what I was thinking.

"Yeah but one that would help him be Gabe's second, help him become a Capo, not a mate that was helping his brother away from the life, the family," Saul said, I sighed.

"What was he thinking?" I whispered mostly to myself but I actually received an answer.

"Bro, your brother is fucking weird," I snapped my head to James who lifted his hand in defense and started speaking fast.

"As my soon to be Alpha, and as my Il Principe, I wouldn't say none of this shit but since you gave all that up I'll tell you what many think. Straight?"

"Straight," I said unsure of what the hell he was going to say.

"Your brother is crazy, crazy smart, crazy stupid and worse crazy psycho. He is that child that would kill everyone around him, you and your parents included just for under estimating him."

"You're wrong," I said strongly, I knew my brother.

No you see what he wants everyone around him too see...Max said.

"Samuel is shy and quiet," I said then, let that go trying a new route, "Why didn't you guys say that before?" they all just laughed.

"The bullet you would put in our heads as Alpha or Il Principe," James stopped laughing and answered.

"Your family... built him a wall, Gabriel. Anything we say negative is because he's gay. Anyone or we says he's shady, you guys think that we say that because he's gay. You shoot to kill and make an example of them. Your dad has done that before. Remember Nick? Told your dad something about Sam and your dad killed him, yeah Sam is gay. But Sam is shady as hell. Stealthy and you guys... well you are neither my future Alpha or Il Principe right now, so we can tell you the truth, and the truth is you guys created a monster," Said Saul, the others agreeing.

"Samuel?" I asked again, surely they had to be confused.

"Yeah, Samuel. Anything, anyone says about him negative you and your pops think it's because he's gay, but he's shifty and Chelsea... well she see's it!" James answered.

"Yeah man."

"Chelsea's suspicious of everyone," I replied rather defensive.

They all snorted, "Right but she wasn't the one getting shot at tonight," Rico pointed out.

"Yeah Gabriel, she won't let Samuel get away with nothing, she wont let him join her little pack or guard her, it isn't shit about him being gay, Jamie is gay. She doesn't trust him as a person, or his wolf either," Saul said who for the most part always remained silent.

"You have to see it now man?" James stated but it came out as a question.

"He can't stand Chelsea because you guys can't protect him, with Chelsea there is no bubble, she see's him for who he is, not what he is."

"And you guys think he's dirty somehow?" I concluded aloud.

"No not somehow, specifically where your family is related," Saul, said.

"No," I disagreed.

"Yes. You think this was a setup? Who do you think is behind it? As far as Samuel knew we would be staying with Chelsea. That call you got from Mack would have gotten rid of Andrew, Ethan and you. As your mate, if you had gotten hurt, Chelsea would have come running," James theorized.

"Four for the price of one," I said but shook my head.

"If anyone was behind this it would be Ames," I threw his name out there.

"They could be working together," Saul threw back.

"Rian, Samuel and Ames," James said voice stronger, more sure of his statement than Saul.

"No," I answered quickly.

"Yes," James said, he standing his ground.

"Why? No, how? They want different things?" I argued.

"No they don't," he replied quickly, "they all want power."

"You sound-" I started.

"Like Chelsea, you said that already man, James is right they all want power. Your dad is always careful, so they can't just kill him. But the death of three of his sons is a major distraction." Saul explained.

"I feel like I'm being mindfucked!" I groaned out.

"Mindfucked?" Rico mocked, " but you see our point?" he finished.

It was dark, but I nodded, "Any three of them but they'd need help."

"FUCK!" I growled, punching the headrest in front of me, Saul swerved on the expressway.

"We can't even torture Ames, he's already mated to Scar," I groaned, they all laughed.

"What's the plan?" Saul asked when the laughing died down.

"When you drop me off, go scoop up Ames, knock him out, take him to my place," I instructed.

"Why him?" Rico asked.

"Sam is my brother, Rian is Jay's mate and wife, Ames isn't shit," sounded ruthless but assholes were just shooting at me and if they were involved I wanted to know.

I might not know if Ames is shady and working against me, but I do know that he is 100% committed to Scarlet, he knows if I hurt him she will feel his pain... plus it'll give me a chance set this right. I want to know why he felt he was above picking up this shipment.

As I left the car when we finally made it to Chelsea I gave my men orders, but walking towards my mates door I didn't know who the hell I could even trust.

You can trust our mate... she is on our side...

Before I could knock the door was opened and I was face to face with Casey, moving aside to let me in, and Jack, Violet, Lucas and her attorney Mikael were all seated in the living room. Do these people not sleep?

"How are your brothers?" Violet asked first.

"Fine, better when I left."

"We're surprised to see you..." said Jack, "so soon, that is," he clarified.

I waved my hands, they all looked worried, "it was a setup I'm sure," I mumbled, "most likely to get Chelsea," I whispered.

I was exhausted and just came here to see Chelsea I thought to myself.

Everyone laughed, "What?"

"Well go on up Mr. I only came here for Chelsea," Casey answered laughing.

Walking out and going up to her room I heard Mikael saying something about Chelsea being right and baseball bat to a gunfight...

* End Flashback *

-The present-

"You are my main concern, Chelsea," I whispered to the sleeping girl next to me, I couldn't trust anyone but her, and people that she trusted. Hopefully. If we had to leave to protect her, I would do that.

"No one will be what you are to me, baby," I said, pulling her into my arms, against my chest, finally closing my eyes.

Chapter 56 – Making Sense PT.2 (Gabriel's POV)

"Ah," I moaned, thrusting my hips, into my hand. My hand? Wetness, warmth teased my head, "Oh..."

"Morning," I heard, I opened my eyes sitting half up as she stroked me, God this felt better than any other woman who has done this.

Because she's our mate... Max thought, sighing. He was always content when our mate was touching us in general.

"Wha- what are you doing?" I choked out, her hands on my cock.

"Well you were hard when I woke up and-and I thought that you'd like-" she stuttered blushing a bright pink.

"Stop," I groaned, the words coming out harsher than I had intended, her face fell and she moved her hand speedily off my dick like my words burned her.

"You are nothing like those other women Chelsea, I want you to touch me because you want too, not because you think I would want you too," I explained painfully, but looking into her eyes, I knew that today was a new day, I had things to prove, and I wanted our relationship to progress. Coming together physically... is easy. The difficult part is building trust.

Unexpectedly she leaned forward, kissing me, boldly one hand on my chest, slowly making it's way down, grabbing my man hood, in her small warm hand.

"Tell me what to do," she whispered against my lips, but I'm not sure she realized how hard it was to think much less instruct her on what to do when she was touching me this way.

"Up- and down, hold me tighter," I whispered, thrusting my hand in time with her hand.

"T-that feels... just... faster," I breathed, I could feel my orgasm coming, quicker than I would prefer but-

"Mama Elseeee," I heard through the door.

"Ugh d-don't stop Chelsea," I pulled away from her lips my head lulled back and felt her mouth teasing my mark.

I know that she had never done anything like this b-but she was good. My stomach tighten, she reached for my sac massaging them.

"Oh God Ch-Chel-sea," I groaned out as I erupted, breathing like I just ran 10 miles, blissed out.

"Fuck," I reached blindly for her face, mess on my stomach be damned I wanted to kiss my girl.

"Thank you," I mumbled into her mouth as I kissed her.

"Mamaaa Elseee," Ava called again, knocking the door, turning the knob, making me scramble, but Chelsea just giggled.

"It's locked," she said thru her giggles, wiping my release on her sheets as she reached for her shirt.

"Coming baby," she yelled out to Ava.

"Yeah, I was," I said she giggled again, but this time at me.

"Get dressed," she said walking to her door waiting for me to pull my pants on commando.

"Mama Elsee up," Ava said once Chelsea finally opened the door.

"Eat?" then she spied me, smiling.

"Morning beautiful," I answered, reaching for her as we made our way into the hall, Casey resting against the wall looking sheepish and a bit uncomfortable.

"I-I tried to tell her that Mama and Papa were sleeping but she heard... you speaking," he said avoiding our gaze, and then changed the subject.

"Can't believe that Sam rejected Jamie," Casey said, Chelsea stopped walking.

"Who told you?" she asked.

"You knew?" he fired right back.

"Jamie told me, did he tell you?" she answered him.

"Papa eat?" Ava said shocking the hell out of me, but I couldn't help smile at the little princess in my arm. She placed a chubby little hand on my face and said "Eat?" once more.

I laughed, "Yeah and what does this little princess want?" I asked Ava walking down to Chelsea's kitchen.

"Eggs? Pancake? Oatmeal?" I asked her again but Casey answered, as did the smell.

"Violet cooked but Ava wanted you and Chelsea down here too after she came down and saw you weren't here," he waved his hand, and true to his words there was a pretty nice setup of breakfast on the table; eggs, scrambled, omelet, pancakes, bacon, ham, buns, apple juice, orange juice, milk and buttered toast. A feast that would fill up all the wolves in Chelsea's pack and then some, apparently Chelsea wasn't the only one that knew how to cook.

"Wow," I said putting Ava into her booster chair, she was older but still very small for her age, maybe it was being a wolf for three years non-stop.

"So what do you want?" I asked again, figuring she would just point to what she wanted. I started to call out the different food names, asking Ava to repeat them as well. I'm sure she knew what things were, because as a wolf I spoke to her, played with her, she had always brought me comfort after Katie disappeared.

Once I fixed her baby portion of eggs and ham, and a cup of milk Violet spoke.

"You have a weird one on your hands," pointing to Ava as she placed what looked like waffles on the table.

Swallowing my own mouthful, I asked, "what do you mean?"

Pointing towards Ava with her fork, "she's smart, intelligent, catches on quickly and she doesn't like sweets. Tried giving her a piece of my pancake with syrup she spat it out. Day before yesterday I tried giving her pieces of my brownie she spat that out as well."

"She likes apple oatmeal but I put sugar and she didn't like it very much, she mostly ate around the sugar," she laughed.

Casey piped in, "she seems to only like apples, peas, vegetables, rice/pasta... not sweets, even tried ice-cream, but Ava doesn't like it."

I could only laugh, catching everyone's attention, "As a wolf I only gave her apples, meat, carrots and egg. Never anything sweet, never wanted to get her sick and I knew that-" I stopped myself.

"What?" asked Casey but I was embarrassed and slightly blushing with chagrin.

"Well, I didn't know she was a werewolf, but people sometimes keep wolves as pets, with dogs- I know that you can't give them Chocolate or sweets," I ending that sentence mumbling the last five words.

"Bro," Casey snorted, "I'm blessed you found her, big deal you never gave her sweets," he laughed.

"We're just stating that Ava doesn't like sweets, not passing blame." Turning to Ava he made gooey eyes at her, sticking his tongue out, a sweet innocent set of giggles fell from her lips; effectively breaking the silence and tension lightening seriousness of the room significantly.

Once the meal was done, Andrea came over leaving with Ava, "Okay we've got class. Is Jamie going?" Chelsea asked to no one in particular in the room full of people, since Jamie hadn't made an appearance. All their faces changed, Molly his sister growled.

"I'm sorry," I apologized for Samuel although after last night and what I- the conversation...

Maybe because he jumped in front of a bullet that was meant for our mate or he's a nice guy... Max thought sarcastically.

"It's not your fault," Chelsea said getting up kissing me softly before addressing, Noah, Lucas, and Alex.

"I'll be ready to leave in 30 minutes," then walked away to the stairs. When she was out of sight all the men sat and stared me down.

"I called and spoke to James when you went to up see Chelsea, filled us all in, even came by and dropped off this file," he said threw it on the now cleared table. It looked to be about 200 pages thick; opening the folder I could see that the first page was a picture of Alpha Rosa.

"Pictures of all the men and women they could possibly send Chelsea's way," they explained and I was actually thankful.

"We spent the last four hours since you went to her studying pictures," said Violet.

See you can trust these people... no sleep and they want to know about possible threats... Max thought and I had to agree.

"No Offense, but honestly, you guys seem to be getting messy," said Mikael.

"I'm not offended, but it's my father," I said sighing.

"He's become distracted and complacent," he answered too knowingly but before I could look into that my phone began buzzing. I answered fast.

"Dad. How are the boys?" my audience listening in silence.

"They are good, out of the operating room, ready and able for transfer but we've got a bit of a problem," he said voice ice cold. I put the call on speaker knowing that this had to be about Chelsea.

"Well?" I replied just as cold.

"Alpha Rosa wont release us unless we deliver at least ten vacutainers vials of Chelsea's blood, we've already sent the helicopter to pick them up," I heard him but surely he was fucking with me. Everyone in the room was growling at my fathers demand but I just laughed.

"That is not going to happen Dad, my mate," I said stressing the words, "Is. Not. Some. Blood. Bank." I gritted.

"If Alpha Rosa wont let you, mom and the boys leave then let them know I will be sending out teams to get you out. We have a treaty, remind him that the men I am sending will be coming thirsty for blood."

Now I was getting fucking pissed because-

Because you want to keep mate safe...

"Let them know that if you're not released in the next 4 hours, I will be attacking. Not just with our pack but also the three other ones with whom we have loyalties as well as treaties in place," I said then hung up. Chelsea's crew minus Jamie, who was glaring at me, gawked at me wide eyed.

"What. The. Hell?" asked Jack.

"They- they want her blood? Or do they won't release your family?" he said shocked.

Jamie just laughed, then his voice turned eerily cold, pointed at Mikael, then me, "You better be prepared to protect her, she put herself at risk because you two nagged her into it. Yeah she helped your mother and I before, but your family won't protect Chelsea like mine would," he just walked away when he was done; going in the same direction Chelsea went.

"What did he mean?" I asked Molly who lifted her chin defiantly.

"Chelsea... is- she's special, she never wanted to be around a lot of people. She's generous, gave us the houses we live in but didn't make it feel like charity. We've always had little to no money but went from that to having money, a nice home to raise a family in," she ringed her hands.

"When Jamie got shot, I asked Chelsea to save him, he's the only blood relative I've got left and told her to do whatever it takes. Even if that meant we had to leave our new dream homes behind. Save him. Then if there were trouble, we'd leave. To protect her, keep her safe."

"You'd all drop your life and disappear for her." I stated, understanding completely.

Tell them we'd do the same exact thing... Max urged.

"Well think about it. What type of life would she have if everyone wants her blood?" Molly asked me rhetorically I'm sure.

"Why didn't you ask her for more blood?" Mikael asked.

"One, because there is a treaty in place. Two because, Molly is right, this sets precedence. If they hold my family as trade then all other packs will attempt this. My father might have asked but he wanted the answer that I gave, think about it. My family would never be safe, just kidnap one of us and hold us hostage, and that will get you Chelseas' blood? Fuck that," I snorted shaking my head.

Now they are going to come straight to the source Gabriel... Max thought.

"Alpha Rosa just got temporary balls, this phone call was a reminder of his place," I explained standing up.

"Can you guys let Chelsea know I'm not going to class, I've got things to handle, but I'll be here at 5pm. The four people my dad has flown over from Italy are arriving today so they'll be coming for dinner," I left then, dragging myself over to Violets, I had Ames to deal with before then.

Chapter 57- Making Sense PT.3 (Gabriel's POV)

An hour after leaving Chelsea's place I was showed and already missing her, but I had things I needed to handle.

Ames. I had to wait until the drugs wore off.

I knew that Madeline and Scarlet had remained home so what I would do was not going to make a scene. Checking my phone dad texted me that Alpha Rosa had released them all, but the treaty they had was no longer in tact.

Although with what he pulled, that was no surprise, Alpha Rosa had maybe 200 people that could fight in his pack, we had 496 not counting Oscar, Rico, Saul and James. Dad had been smart and we had allies that surrounded Alpha Rosa, if attacked sure some of our people might die, even get wounded but his pack wouldn't survive at all.

By 9:40a.m. Ames started coming around, pulling at his restraints, "what the hell Gabriel, untie me!" he shouted struggling.

Pulling out my Glock I looked to him, his face paled. Good.

"What happened?" I asked calmly even though I was anything but.

Still uselessly pulling at the restraints, "look I'm sorry about your brothers but this isn't my fault!"

"Then who?" I asked cocking my head to the left.

"Look what do you want me to say?"

"You had Mack call me to handle it. Why? Why didn't you take Andrew and Ethan out there?"

"Scarlet and I-I, we were, busy," he stuttered along but I was already pissed off, then he crossed the line, "I've been messed up lately man, that girl killed my sister, your girl and-" I didn't let him finish.

Letting go one shot right around his calf, not to kill him but to hurt, knowing that Scarlet would be feeling it too.

Screaming like a little bitch, I shot him a second time in the kneecap.

"I heard it hurts to get shot in the knee," I said to the men watching me, no one making a move to stop me not that they would, they knew their place. So we all just watched Ames, crying out in pain.

Eventually he passed out, and came to 30 to 40 minutes later.

He was already healing and it wasn't life threatening, but I knew he was in pain. Lots of it.

"What the hell! Gabriel!!!" he groaned out.

"Get him water," I instructed any of the nine men here watching this unfold.

Giving him time to get his bearings I started again, "where were you instructed to be last night Ames?" my voice cold. Aloof.

"At the docks, overseeing the drop," he whispered.

"And where were you instead?" I asked.

"With your-your sister, Scarlet," he answered but I saw right thru that answer, if he thought he could hide behind her... he was wrong.

"So, let me get this straight, you ignored your responsibility, for your mate," I stated and half asked, and then finished my thoughts.

"You did so because her vagina was on fire? That's it... right? Or wait, she was giving birth to your child? No that is not it cannot be it; she has you by the balls? Naw, that can't be it either," I shake my head.

"But does she? Does she have the balls in this relationship? Yeah that's it because you're taking cues and she's making decisions for you. Maybe I should have dad make her take the Omertà too, oh wait! Dad! That's right! He's the fucking Boss Ames, not Scarlett and certainly not fucking you!" I yelled.

"My brothers and myself, James, Saul, Rico, Uncle Oscar," I named us off, "we could all be fucking dead right now because you wanted to get your dick wet and my sister asked you not to leave," he was about to answer but with the butt f my fun I knocked him upside the head.

"I didn't asked your opinion Ames," he remained silent, and I turned to James.

"How's your daughter?" I asked him, then turned back to Ames while he answered.

"She's good." He answered.

"Has she ever been sick and you do your job, leaving her to do it?"

"Yeah, I have."

"You see that Ames, he has a child that could have been fatherless, no... parentless but James still went last night when I said, I think they," I said waving my hand around at my men, "need to teach you a lesson in loyalty, in responsibility." Storing my gun, I spoke to the room, "sans, James, Rico and Saul, the rest of you work him over for five minutes. Don't kill him or cause any internal damage to his organs." No one spoke, but Ames started to struggle once again.

"Gabriel, no, family does not do this!!!" He struggled, "Scarlett will feel everything!" he shouted.

"That is your sister!" he shrieked.

"Exactly," I roared, turning around to face him.

"Her putting her nose where it doesn't belong has consequences, and this punishment is hers and yours. Hopefully this will teach the two of you where your place is," I said barely controlling my rage.

"We got caught in a setup that we never should have been in, in the first goddamned place Ames."

For added warning I informed him, "If I find out you had anything to do with this, I will kill you Ames, I don't give a flying fuck if you're Scarlet's mate. I'll have your blood. So I'm giving you a chance now Ames, to let me know if you were in on this..." I waited.

"No. No. I swear," he said, like I could actually trust anything that came out of his mouth, mated men all had a weakness, their mates. Ames thought he was above that, if anything he would hide behind Scarlet.

Not being able to stand looking at his face I walked out of my warehouse.

The minute I made it to my car my phone was buzzing, ringing, James was in the car so I handed it off to him because I knew who it was.

Reasons.

My actions all had reason, if I was going to leave this life and I was, I would be doing so leaving my father secured as possible. If he was going to hand things over to Andrew and Ethan then I needed to hand over something stable and working, not a dysfunctional ticking time bomb! Right now I knew that what I did to Ames would prove a point, if Ames were involved, this was a big fucking hint and warning.

If Rian was involved, I wanted her to know that when she made a choice, if she thought she was safe, I'd return the favor to her children.

If Samuel, my own brother was involved or even part of the scheme, then I was showing him that not even blood was safe at the moment. The boys said we built him a wall? Well I was going to fucking bulldoze that shit down.

I knew for a fact that Scarlet was in her own world of pain right now, feeling every single thing that Ames was feeling right now. He would bleed, have broken bones, scrapes and whatever but Scarlet would only feel it. It could be seen to others as a cowardly move, but no matter what, you never hurt women or children.

With what the boys were saying last night, this was a warning to anyone involved.

If any of the three thought that hiding behind family would keep them safe, hidden or make them untouchable, they were going to get a big surprise.

I could hear James answering as I drove to my parents, knowing for sure he was speaking to an upset Rian.

"Hang up!" I said dryly as we hit the gate, heading up the driveway.

Before even making it out of my car I could see Rian throwing the front door open, charging me angrily.

Another Maggie... Max thought after being silent for most of the day so far.

Reaching into my inside pocket holster, pulling out my Glock I let out one direct shot, same spot as Ames before she was even two feet away from me, shaking, ready to shift.

The gun shot bringing everyone outside, limping Scarlett, Mom, Dad, Jay, Madeline and Rians littlest daughter Jayda.

"Hold him," my dad ordered his men to hold Jay who was out for my blood right now but would not get it. He was and should be aware that I was well in my boundaries for any of my actions today, his son and now his wife.

Especially when it came to his son, Ames was lucky that I didn't just take his life point blank because he had orders and he did not follow them.

What happened right now was proof that my father had lost control of all this and I would have to be the one that neutralized this entire situation, for him, for my brothers. My family. This one and the one I would be building with Chelsea.

"My office," my father instructed again but looked at me with complete adoration, eyes sparkling. Others, bystanders by now knew what was happening and went to help Rian, while men dragged Jay into my dads' office.

As I walked by Scarlet, she reached out to stop me but my father grabbed her wrist, slipped a finger under her chin, "be happy that Gabriel only shot him and roughed him up," cupping her face, "your mate or not I would've killed him for the unsatisfactory and unsuitable behavior that led to your brothers almost demise Scarlet, Gabriel getting to him first gave him a pass, but he will only get one" he said serious, making sure she understood the last few words, she nodded, and then dad kissed her forehead and walked into his office, I turned to her, tears brimming in her eyes, I wanted her to know and understand.

"Scar, dad's right, but I wanted you to feel what happened to him-"

"Gabey," she tried her nickname for me, but I shook my head, she wasn't new to this life.

"No. I could have killed him Scarlet, his life? Death? Would be in no ones hands but yours. You," she was crying now.

"I felt like something would be going wrong and look what happened he's my mate Gabriel!" shaking her head at me in indignation.

I could only stand back and laugh, "Your feelings? They don't matter!" I barked, cold.

"You wouldn't understand!"' she snapped at me and I knew what she was going to say, using Chelsea to excuse her mates actions.

"And you are not a fucking toddler! Ames, no one will hide behind excuses Scar from now until I feel like there's nothing I can teach A & E. He had orders, and you talked him out of them, your opinion and bad feelings don't fucking matter, they don't mean shit and you know that!" I answered her shamelessly, as I encroached in her personal space. I was no longer in the pack, and couldn't speak to her over the pack link so I crept closer to her ears to whisper what was meant as a clear threat.

"If you weren't my sister I'd do half of what I did to him to you personally. Yet, I can't do that Scarlet, but I have no problem beating him to a bloody pulp knowing his punishment was meant for you. Remember that, the next time you try to coerce him not to follow orders," my voice raw, unfeeling.

Her stance was rigid now, "Do. You. Understand?" I said pulling back, keeping my eyes on hers, I received a small nod and whispered 'yes."

"You're his mate, but if I find out that he had any knowledge or partaken in anything that happened it's going to be a race Scarlet. A race between dad and I to see who puts a bullet in his skull or rips out his throat for his betrayal," I said walking away into dads' office.

"How are the boys?" I asked immediately, ignoring Jay growling at me, one his from my father shut him down.

"Good in the pack hospital-" dad said after warning Jay but apparently my father didn't have any power because Jay interrupted him.

"Are we ignoring what Gabriel has done?"

"Your wife was going to attack!" my father hissed between clenched teeth.

"He had Ames tied to a chair! What about that!?" Jay spat angrily.

"Thank me," I said coldly; Jays' head as well as everyone in the room snapped and gawked at me incredulously.

"Right! Thanks for torturing my son," Jay responded sarcastically, but no one laughed. They were obviously smarter than Jay at the current moment.

"I nodded slightly to one of the men still holding Jay and he quickly gave Jay a punch opposite the side my father gave.

"Thank. Me." I repeated.

"Thank me because I was well within my right to kill him, he didn't follow orders."

"Your wife? Well she needed to be reminded of her place when it comes to family business. It is your responsibility to teach her, her place Jay. I could have killed her too," I taunted him.

"So. Thank. Me." I said slowly, watching him getting more upset when he wouldn't submit. His eyes challenging me, but whether or not I was in this pack, I had the stronger, dominant wolf, so when his eyes finally fell, head tilted in submission he whispered, harshly, forced, "Thank. You. Gabriel."

My father clapped, again looking at me in adoration and I quickly for a moment remembered a time when that look actually meant something to me.

Not much anymore though. I knew that change, in me, for everyone else came because of Chelsea, but they just hadn't been looking close enough.

If they had, all of them, my mother excluded would see it came almost a year ago.

I had wanted a change, no I wanted to- to make a change. Changes. In the pack. In the family business.

"My boy is right Jay. Any one else and his punishment would have been death. Gabriel did you a favor," my father said bringing me back to my current location.

"And my wife," Jay countered upset.

"Has forgotten her place, and needed reminding," my father said, tone and face uncaring and left no room for arguing.

"Now let discuss what happened Gabriel, Grandfather and Father are on the line," my father said pointing to the phone.

A moment, three seconds at most of panic ran thru me at knowing that my grand and great grandfather were also in the room right now, having not spoken to them since Chelsea had arrived.

"Gabriel, my boy," my grandfather Dante says, "I hear you have found your mate boy." Statement.

"You must do what you can to protect her," Sabastian my great grandfather speaks up and as I look around I feel as though I have missed an important fact. His voice was deep and concerned.

"And Jay... you as well... Audrey has a twin I hear, but you let them attack your child?" Sab asks and I was glad because I've wondered what Jay thinks about all this without Rian around.

"I-I, she killed my daughter. Put another one in the hospital, and has yet to show any concern for them. They are her sisters. Should she not care about them? She has shown no empathy for my children-"

"She is your child too," Sab interrupted him, for which I was happy because I was inching closer, ready to hit him.

Mate only defended herself... Max said.

"Gabriel, if you ever need help my boy, be sure to call upon me and your Nonna, we will do what we can. You understand Gabriel?" my great-grandfather Sabastian said.

"She- what is her name again?" I hear him mumble.

"Chelsea, your Chelsea is no ordinary white wolf, your father was just explaining that her blood heals. By now your worst enemies may already know this information son," I had to be reading things wrong because my great grandfather Sab sounded sad, but I'd ignore it for the time being.

"Yeah, I'm starting to realize that. She's different-" my great-grandfather interjected me.

"Doesn't like to be touched, neat as a whistle, maybe even ordinary looking?" Does he know Chelsea? I asked Max.

No he doesn't know her...he replied.

The room is quiet, I can tell everyone is looking at me and I've yet to answer. Mostly baffled by all this information that he knows.

"I mean- I mean her no harm Gabriel. My sister Veronica, Gabriel was a white wolf. Those were her traits, behaviors. The Goddess while she makes them special, she does give them ways to protect themselves. I can remember-"Sab started to speak but Dad cut him off.

"Now is not the time for memory lane."

"We have a mole in our mists, we will no longer use that port for shipments."

Now he believes there is a mole... Max huffed in my head.

"Yes son," my grandfather answered.

"Who do you believe was behind this?" my great granddad asked.

"Not sure" my father answered while I said "Alpha Rosa!" The room, Sab and Dante all remained silent.

"No," my father said to me.

"Yes. This was all about getting Chelsea there. You were too busy to notice. When you injected her blood dad, all he was focused on, all Alpha Rosa saw was the syringes and maybe your hand. After he focused solely on the vital machines. Even his wife, the Luna knew what he wanted. Ask the guys, they noticed it," I explained, no way was I including any theories about Ames, Samuel or Rian for the time being.

My father was still looking at me disbelievingly, "this was too elaborate to be just about the girl," he answered.

One person I missed was my grandfather (Dante); he had a wisdom that once could only get from both experience and education. Almost 200 years old, and didn't look a day over 40 years old but his aura was one you could not discount or overlook; and over the phone was no different.

"The boy is right George, Alpha Rosa has- had an alliance treaty with you, with the pack, does he not?" Granddad Dante said.

"Yes but if true, he nearly killed the boys for what?" my father countered.

I heard them sigh over the phone, "for confirmation or to be held captive," I could feel myself getting angry.

"George, they held you. While they didn't harm you, they broke the treaty by even preventing your departure. Was it not the threat made by Gabriel that led to them releasing you?" Granddad asked knowingly.

"Yes," dad said easily then remained silent.

"Since besides this lead, there are no others I will send men to apprehend Alpha Rosa and his Luna," dad said a few minutes later.

"I will call the hidden, activate two of them to help in capturing Alpha Rosa," granddad answered.

Right then, an idea struck me, I should have requested it before hand but I'd do it now.

I waited until all the plans were finalized, "Dad one more thing. I want you to give an Alpha command to the entire pack. Chelsea is off limits. No one touches her! No harm will come to her. None."

My fathers eyes widened but I wasn't done, "If you cant or wont then, know that I. Am. Gone. Cold turkey, I quit. You want my help, fine. But you give that order. No harm, kidnapping, hitting, plotting, just- just nothing. Chelsea is off limits. To everyone," I specified. I wanted no room for misunderstandings, yet I saw my father glance at James and Oscar, as well as Jay before finally resting back to me.

"Okay, but I want you to take a backseat in picking up shipments, as well as drops. Continue training Andrew and Ethan when they recover, but until we know more you guys are not on the frontlines anymore," he negotiated.

"Fine," I said, and three minutes later my father replied.

"Done. You and Chelsea are untouchable," I nodded but would not take just his word for it.

After hanging up, I said my goodbyes and went to the pack hospital to check on Andrew and Ethan, James following me. I could tell he wanted to me something but was still deliberating with himself, so I let him be.

To say we were both shocked when we saw Andrew and Ethan would be an understatement. They still looked sickly, pale and weak but you would never know that just 9 hours ago they were on deathbeds. Why? They were both awake in the pack hospital room watching a movie on the flat screen above their beds.

"Hey bro," Andrew said the second I walked in.

"How-how do you guys feel?"

"Like we look," Andrew answers deadpanned, James actually chuckles, which increased the pout and scowl that Ethan, wore.

Still a blank expression Andrew asks, "heard Chelsea gave us her blood, helped heal us, well expedited the process?" I only nodded.

"Would it be weird to send a thank you card?" Again no emotion in his voice, I just smirked.

"Not sure," I quipped, sitting down between them for an hour or so until they went to sleep around 3p.m.

When James and I were in my car once again, I think of how to broach this subject with him. I know he believes he owes my father but I also know that he puts his daughter first.

"I need something form you," I state.

"What?" he replies seriousness coating his word and behavior.

"Well call it a trade. I'm not in the pack so I would never know if what my father said is true. I'm referring to Chelsea and I being untouchable-" he interrupts me.

"He gave the-" I intervene him this time.

"Yes, he gave it but I also want to know if he revokes that. I know that you're... loyal to him but for this information, I will ask Chelsea to heal your daughter. To try, you saw it yourself, what it did for the boys..." I said as we drove down to Chelsea's not speaking, letting that thought hang there with him.

Once we arrive at Chelseas' he finally says something.

"Not right away."

"What?" I say putting the car in park.

"I'll do it, but wait a few days to get Chelsea to help." I was going to answer but he held his hand up, I waited.

"I want more, one more thing. If something happens to me, your dad thinks I somehow betrayed him you and Chelsea, have to take her. Raise her. Those are my two conditions," he said grave, and then spoke again.

"She doesn't have friends. Not a single one. I love her the way she is, don't get me wrong but, but if Chelsea could help her, things would be so much easier for her Gabriel. I also don't want her to think she should only want things to come easily. I just, want her to live. Life will be hard when she's a grown up, there is no need for it to be that way now," he rambled, probably wanting to get that off his chest.

"It's sad, but the one person that took her on was actually a wolf, Ava. Well, Nikka, but you get what I'm saying."

"Bring her over. They can have a date," I say and he laughs.

"Play date man, it's call a play date," he snorts opening the door the both of us getting out.

When James left to pick up the four new guards arriving I took the time to call my great grandfather. Raising the phone to my ear it only rang twice before I heard a boisterous laugh from him before he spoke, making me smile to myself.

He knew that I would be calling.

"Was wondering how long it would be before you called," he chuckled and I sighed.

"Well, you seem to have information that would be useful to me about my mate," he remained silent.

"She's exactly how you said Nonno," I say using the name I used for him when I was a small boy.

"Chelsea, she is special, smart, caring but with all the bad stuff I just thought it was her history. She is very neat; I mean everything in her house is just white. She doesn't like to be touched, well she has said that, but she touches me and those around her so I'm a bit confused, but then, then-"

"Calm down boy!" Nonno snapped, and then sighed.

"I know much because my sister was a white wolf," he spoke in a soft voice I did not know that my great grandfather was capable of. Then I focused and was hit with a bit of clarity.

"I didn't know that you had a sister!" I exclaimed and received a humorless chuckle.

"We do not speak of her much because she was only with us for a year after shifting. You see my boy, being a white wolf while being an honor is very much a curse. Many knew of white wolves but not just other wolves, other beings too. To other wolves it is a prize to be mated to one or have them in your pack. Other supernatural beings wanted my sister for status whether by force or not. Vampires, they want all white wolves dead, they believe that white wolves will bring more power to our species, enough to bring them to be our slaves-"

"As it was many years ago," I finished for him.

"How did she pass?" I whispered but I wasn't sure I really wanted to know because it had to have been bad.

"Well," his voice wavered, and I heard him pause.

"Vampires got to her son, but not before other wolves did enough damage to her," he spat out angrily and for a second I wondered how much damage could one go through over a years time? I thought silently.

"More than you know, more than you think our kind is capable of!" he answered my evidently not so silent query.

"She was kidnapped and before we were able to get to her an Alpha had already forcibly tried to mate with her. She was kidnapped in his hands by one of his own. Unfortunately it's like she went from hot water to hot oil because the second man that took her wanted what the first wanted and more; her blood. Started bleeding her and selling it," my eyes were the size of silver dollars and I didn't even realize that I had company, Casey.

I motioned for him to sit and placed the call on speaker, letting Nonno know, who Casey was, giving him a quick introduction.

"Casey pleasure to speak to you," Nonno said before going back to his story.

"Like I was telling Gabriel, it is hard to think of wolves getting that treatment from our own kind but there are worse people in the world and that is coming from a man retired from the business," Casey only nodded in agreement like Nonno could see him.

"We had her for three months back after finding her but vampires came attacked the pack killing her instantly. Le-left her in pieces and took her heart with them. So- so you see boys, you need to really guard that girl Gabriel," his voice shook, but I was shaking myself. In fear? Anger? Both.

I couldn't let anyone do that to her not as her mate but also as a man. No matter how many women I've been intimate with none has been by force or with fear. I liked to be rough but consensual. I wasn't one of those men that didn't understand that no means no, and I wouldn't even begin to consider those fuckers as men. Cowards.

As I drifted further into my own head I thought and concluded that I really had fucked up and Chelsea was right. After what Nonno said, all things made sense, things were all making sense. What she said about needing protection against my old pack, Chelsea apparently knew what the history of white wolves. She wanted a low profile and since meeting me she has practically lost that. Forced into shifting with the challenge that Maggie gave and now, she sent blood to another pack land and they were after her.

Fingers snapped in front of me, pulled me back to the present, "Damn boy! Pay attention," Nonno said, Casey then getting up walking away.

"Where ya going?" I asked him.

"Ava," sheepish grin in place, I shook my head.

Concentrate Gabriel ask about gifts, skills that help her protect herself? Max urged.

"Nonno, in dads office you said they, that white wolves were given skills to protect them?" my question came out confusing but he understood.

"Yes. Well, I've only met two one of which was my sister and another woman. First I should explain that Veronica never wanted to be touched but as she grew up then shifted, something changed. She explained it to me, that when she touched someone that was bad, dangerous to her she felt like they burned her. That feeling she had as a child we believed protected her as a white wolf."

"So when she touched someone that would bring her harm, her skin would burn? Does the other persons skin burn as well? Like the feeling I get when I touch my mate?" I asked hurriedly.

"No. Not physically burn, she said it felt like their touch was painful, a shock. The person that wasn't trustworthy or dangerous felt nothing. Your Chelsea, I bet that all the people around her, she can touch; but- but she goes out of her way not to touch certain people."

I wonder if touching Sam 'burned,' her because she didn't want him to be around her.

Is that why she stayed clear of him? Max thought.

"Am I right boy?" Nonno verbalized again, instead of answering I countered.

"Did she need to touch them? Could she, maybe... sense?"

"Sense they were bad people?" he asked and answered, "yes," something happened, his voice changed and it was like he was whispering a deadly secret.

"You alone?" he asked.

"Yes sir?" my statement coming out as a question.

"Veronica only told me but she shifted young. Younger than just 16, Said she was angry one day and shifted at only 14 years old. Hid the shift for almost a year. I don't know if that happens with all white wolves but that is what my Veronica told me," he sounded sad, I'd worry about that information later.

"Thank you Nonno," I said because I was for many reasons.

"I m-mean what I said Gabriel, you need help keeping her safe you come to me. I will help. I couldn't help my sister Veronica, but I will help you. I will help your Chelsea. Make sure she has a full life like Veronica did not have," he said, voice still sad. I could hear Ava now asking to play. Asking for Chelsea. Asking for me. Casey telling her I was right out side.

"Nonno my daughter wants me," I said trying that out. I heard him gasp.

"Daughter?" huh dad didn't mention that?

"Yeah Chelsea and I adopted her, she's five years old," I said proudly. I was also hoping that he'd say something positive about it, instead of a negative comment about her not being blood; to Chelsea, and I, blood did not matter, she was our child.

"You have a bambina?" he said in shock.

"Yes, most beautiful," I answered.

"Take a picture of your family and send to me?" he said.

Just then Ava, threw open the front door.

"Papa," She shrieked happily, making me chuckle, Nonno too.

"You go boy. Maybe I can come visit your family?" he asked.

"Of course, anytime." I simply replied, then thought about my new little family as I played with Ava after Nonno and I ended our call.

I thought more and more about what I wanted. I knew I had a lot of ground to make up with Chelsea but I wanted to do that from inside her house and I would bring that up after dinner tonight.

It wasn't fear driving my actions anymore, but I still had them. I wanted my Chelsea, in all ways, but I wanted her happy, smiling and most importantly I didn't want any harm to come her way.

My great grandfather gave me some insight into white wolves, and it was wonderful.

I was relieved for so many reasons, most importantly that someone in my own family actually was on my side when it came to keeping Chelsea safe.

I could tell that James, Rico even Saul had already warmed up to her, but with my great grandfather... it meant so much that he was on my side. That he cared about my happiness.

And now, my happiness was directly correlated to Chelsea and Ava's safety and happiness.

Chapter 58 – Below My Feet (Chelsea's POV)

When I woke up this morning I felt different... in a good way. Compared to how I felt when I closed my eyes the first time. What made it different? My mate. Gabriel. His words, his trust in me.

He said, "You are nothing like those other women Chelsea, I want you to touch me because you want too, not because you think I would want you too," he explained "I wanted our relationship to progress. Coming together physically... is easy. The difficult part is building trust."

When I woke up, I felt brave, utterly safe. The night before had not turned out how I thought it would. I mean me topless... nothing more than just comforting touches. Gabriel had no idea how much last night meant to me. To let him see my scars. Touch them.

I thought it would be nice to return the favor with a hand-job, but the words he said to me, made me feel like I was flying. Bringing him pleasure, knowing that it was me that brought it, was exhilarating and terrifying. Watching him, he was beautiful and for a tiny moment I wondered if I was doing it better than the other women he had been with, explored with.

You are above those other women Chelsea Avena and Aria thought.

All day he clouded my every thought. The only thing I let pull me from my thoughts was moments where I checked on Jamie. Like when we went to class and saw Samuel. I panicked for my friend, but he handled it for himself like he had with me. Grabbing my hand and pulling me towards the back of the room, when I asked with my eyes how he was I received a nod and small smile. However I knew he was holding something back, something he wasn't sure about. As soon as class was over Jamie and I felt Samuel behind grabbing lunch and eating on a bench on campus. I would've been happy with silence but when Jamie spoke, I was happy as well.

"I want what you have with Gabriel," he whispered.

"But I want what you have with Ava as well," he looked out at our peers before turning back to me, "my wolf thinks we, I-I, have another mate," he said unexpectedly, causing me to spit my drink all over my lunch. I could only glare at him, as he laughed, then I softened my expression because my friend who was rejected was laughing the day after.

"Give me half of your sandwich!" I snapped playfully, but he does as I ask.

"So two mates?" I asked getting back on topic as I happily munched on my new tuna sandwich.

"Yeah. I think that is why Ronin didn't want to mark Samuel, didn't want to be stuck with that type of man as a mate."

"Like Gabriel?" I blurted out instantly on my own regretting the words.

"Nope. Not like him apparently, if I'm reading the apparent guilt on your face. You wanted a mate. He wanted a mate. If you didn't want him, your, you know what wouldn't have marked him and or let you be marked. In my heard I didn't want to mark Samuel, Chelsea. Not the way I saw Molly or you act, I did not feel or want him the way you wanted Gabriel," he explained, his face looking mischievous.

"And we all know how much you want him," he taunted my cheeks heated, deepening my blush as he continued.

"I mean with those paintings," he mock exaggerated.

"Then this morning... I'm surprised you can even sit here with all that need, all that want you have," He laughed at his own joke, me? I was concentrating hard on my piece of tuna sandwich like it was the only thing in the world, until Jamie spared me.

"No joke. I thought you were mad at him?" he asked after my blush no longer amused him.

"Well I'm think that I'm- that I was part mad, part nervous," I said.

"You have nothing to worry about Chelsea, I'm sure Gabriel would rather cut off his left foot than hurt you." I nodded my head in minor agreement.

"I feel- I feel wound up, frustrated, confused-"

He snorted, "horny."

"No-" I started to say but he laughed his way in.

"Oh please! Those songs you were playing, the painting themselves?"

"You are a normal, hormonal teenaged girl,"

Plus you have two wolves, all that extra is building uphe finished over the link.

He is right, said Avena.

"Factor in that... plus maybe your going into heat?" he whispered but that left me reeling as well.

"When do you think it'll hit?" I wondered aloud, Jamie looked at me in confusion, and then blankness took over.

"I have a boy parts," he said, I laughed, choked down the bit I had just taken.

You have six months maybe only 4 until you go into heat Chelsea, it will be different than others because you have both Avena and I, said Aria.

"Well duh. Aria said maybe four months... I can work with that..." I thought out loud, brought out of my thoughts by Jamie laughing.

"Right, four months but you cave sooner, I mean if your painting is any insight of what you really want, your hidden desire-" I interrupted him.

"Its more than that. Leo when I was little would taunt me. T-touch me. He never did more than that and beat me-"

"What the fuck?" he growled, eyes changing closer to black than their beautiful bluish teal. Hazel.

"He- He- Chelsea?" he put his sandwich down disgusted at me and suddenly I lost my appetite as well, but thankfully we both had class. Ignoring his prying eyes I cleaned our little outdoor lunch.

"Ready for class?" I asked nonchalantly, he looks thoughtful, perplexed.

"Che-Chelsea," he stutters shaking his head, face pale and I can see little beads of sweat form on his olive skin. I can do nothing but turn and walk away, and that's what I do. When we start moving I can see jack in my peripheral but I ignore him, well his reaction to Jamie's, outer appearance post my little confession. As we walk, I do so on autopilot, my wolves trying to get past the wall I put up to ignore them and Ronin as well. Now I know for sure that I will not be telling Gabriel about that, I will continue to adapt at my pace and hopefully that's okay.

I hate to let my mind wander back to that time, but as a child you learn to trust, no you are built to love and trust those that either bring you into the world or the people they place you with, so they can provide you with what those adults couldn't give. Weren't equipped to offer.

Me? By age six I trusted no one, Leo well he have me a sense of stability, taught me how to be better. I could count on him for that. Always. He would never really do anything but touch me inappropriately, he threatened, yes all the time. Then at the last minute say, "you can't handle me yet and I need to make sure that's one area that in complete working order." Back then I didn't understand but after meeting Dad, when I eventually went thru puberty and Helen explained everything to me I became aware of what Leo's words really meant.

Just what his plans for me were and that made me wary for a month of Dads' true intentions. Was he like Leo? Just waiting until I was 'ripe,' to pluck my cherry? But after a month, nothing changed and I was once again at ease.

But even now I'm disgusted with myself, for that moment, no those times where I hadn't known better and believed that his touches were common in families, a unwanted prize that was better than the also unwanted torture.

Unwanted touches.

That was definitely not how I would define the way I feel about Gabriel. I not only wanted him to touch me, but I craved that, needed him in way I didn't want with anyone else. I just needed time. Just sometime to get comfortable.

My day went on and I really wanted to take back what I revealed to Jamie, he gave me looks all day, yet the funniest part of my day was when we were heading home after pole dancing class, because of Violet.

"Well when you were in class, I thought I would get you a little present...." She said cryptically, she was being coy. She handed me a little bag so I took it and placed it on my lap. Digging thru the paper wrap I pulled out a pink s-e-x toy, shocked I dropped it back in the bag.

"Violet!! W-what- why would you get me this?" I asked point to my gift laughing, Jamie and Violet as well. Jack focused solely on the road.

"Well missy... I happened to see a certain painting and thought maybe this would be helpful to you..." she smirked, "you know since-" she stopped.

"Since what?" I pushed.

"Well... those paintings.... You've sort of... banished Gabriel to my house... the toy," I cringed, "will help you... you know..." she buys me s-e-x toys and can't call their names? I'm guessing she did not think this through.

"Gabriel is bigger," I blurted out apparently not thinking of my response.

"Oh we know... he's a big boy... we've seen your painting..." Jamie teased again.

"Maybe you should get on the pill or shot..." Violet said seriously, all joking gone.

"Oh Goddddd..." Jack droned out, from the front seat.

"You buy me s-e-x toys, and now birth control?" I laughed humorlessly.

"We aren't there yet Violet!" I said seriously wanting to put an end to this entire conversation now. Yet she gave me something else to think about... Gabriel has had multiple partners... maybe I could ask him to get tested...

Jamie was snapping his fingers in front of my face "wow... his package has you very distracted." He teased me. Still it was not genuine and it did not require a genius to figure out why. He was letting go of my revelations... for now. So I remained quiet until we made it home. I knew that the guards from Italy would be arriving today, so Andrea, Molly and Casey had been given instructions already. We couldn't catch a break, well since we arrived here. It seemed like the places or part of myself, I did not want to be revealed all came out of hiding. And brought trouble right along.

Despite everything I now felt that things might have been calming down, falling into place.

As we went up the driveway to the back of the house I spied Ava playing with Gabriel. Her running in human form and giant Gabriel pretending that she was too fast for him to catch. Joy filled my heart, because I felt what he did and right now he was actually enjoying the game of cat and mouse with Ava.

"Bambina, you're too fast for me!!" He whined. Ava giggling. Wrapped around his finger.

I felt silly for even wondering or doubting how close they would be if he could bond with a child that was not biologically related to him. This feeling and picture put those thoughts to rest very quickly. I shook my head, to myself in awe... could he really have changed so much in such a small time?

You have two wolves... said Aria

Gabriel has two personalities Alpha, Crime Boss' Son, when he found you a third was created, now with Ava, part of the man he is with only you, will be used to create a fourth. Alpha, crime Boss' son, mate/husband and father Avena told me.

So it's not so much that he 'changed' he just created a new persona.

Besides worrying about Jamie there was another thought that crossed my mind all day.

Gabriel and I... we were on the same wave at the moment. Him coming home to me last night, well morning... that was to me a game changer. He was making a huge effort and instead of pushing him away I was going to do what worked for me. He was an adult and I was one as well. Both of us, him and I needed to work together, but maybe it would be best if we grew together.

Gabriel and I we were not like other mates and I'm sure no two stories were the same. We didn't have to jump right into s-e-x. We could build our way up to that.... Baby steps.

I know I had two hours before the new guards came but I would use them wisely. Instead of thinking for the best interest of myself alone, I was going to think of the best interest of my family, and that included Gabriel.

I had yet to make myself known to Gabe and Ava so slowly I retreated opened a discussion between Jack, Casey, Jamie and myself over the pack mind link.

Me: hey guys I've been thinking that Gabriel should move in the house, last time he pretty much invited himself but I just felt now that I cannot give mixed signal. I'm either all in or all out... what do you guys think?

Why are you asking? Jack thought first.

Me: you guys are my family... you live in this house... none of you would ever just move someone in so I guess I'm doing what you'd all do.

So is this like survivor? Are we going to vote someone on? Casey teased.

Me: clown! I teased back.

I didn't think him staying at violets would last a night much less five, Jack joked.

Right! Said Jamie agreeing with Jack.

I'm all for it! More protection for Ava! Said Casey.

Of course that would be Casey's' reaction, I snorted.

Me: okay guys, I said closing that link, opening one with Violet and Lucas.

Can you bring Gabriel's things here ASAP, and also- I was interrupted when over the link Violet spoke to Lucas.

Ha! You owe me $100.00 and you have to sit and watch, 'The Notebook,' with me!

I could hear Lucas groan.... They... they bet on me?

Oh yes... Violet answered proud of herself for winning.

We will be back in ten minutes she said pulling her pouting mate away to the car.

Going to my room I hid the 'gift,' that Violet gave me earlier, she just puts her nose in everything that one. Heading to my studio next, I grabbed my camera, and walked to the window and began snapping shots of Gabriel... playing with Ava outside.

My wolf, no wolves were right!

Of course we are! Avena boasted, then added, about what?

He is different with Ava and I.

Pulled from that thought, I heard Lucas and Violet return, I placed my camera down and went to help, and then unpacked his things.

Proud of my own grand gesture. I found a spot for all his things, and then went down to let him in on it.

As I stepped outside there was a breeze and two people that snuck into my heart reacted the same.

Both Ava and Gabriel froze, sniffed the air and quickly snapped their head in my direction, whatever game they were playing forgotten, as they made their way over to me, Gabriel letting me greet Ava first.

"Mama Elsee Up!" she said but her clothes were filthy. I did not want to get dirty and at the same time I did not want her to feel rejected. From behind me I heard Jamie say, "Princessa! You are a mess!" as he scooped her up. "Lets go wash you up for dinner!" he said playfully tickling Ava, leaving Gabe and I alone for now.

It was fast, sudden. I as fine, but then became painfully shy, incredibly fast. I stared at my feet.

"Do you regret this morning?" he sounded so sad, my eyes went to his face and confirmation was given. He looked as sad as he sounded.

I blinked and shook my head. Reaching for his hand we entered the kitchen, climbed the stairs going to my room, heading straight to my bathroom.

I sat on the edge of my large tub pointing to the sink, "So you can wash up!"

Walking over he did, washing his hands, arms, face and then pulling me up holding me to him, kissing my cheek, then the other before kissing my lips. This time not as frantically but I could feel all the emotion put behind it.

"Come on," I said this time taking my time in my room, hoping he would catch on. He followed me into my closest and I think that's when he finally paid attention.

Once again I was given the fish out of water reaction he gave me last night.

He walked out of the closet, looking around my room, and then walked back to me with the biggest smile I've ever witnessed. Inside my wolves were excited, pleased and cheering me on.

Gabriel, he was elated and I was the reason why.

Picking me up, he pushed my back against the wall, and kissed me desperately, deep and dominant. If I thought the previous one was saying different things, well this kiss was yelling, shouting out his feelings for me.

"God Chelsea!" he groaned, panted as breathless as I was, his forehead against mine.

"Does this mean you- you want me to live here?" he asked unsure, watching my face hard.

"Can we talk?" I asked him instead of answering his question. He nodded, carrying us to my couch. I had so much to say but only 40 minutes to do so.

"Well first... I'm-m not ready for s-e-x Gabriel," he was going to interrupt me but I stopped him.

"Last night you eased my worries, the first time you moved in here I put you on another floor far away from me," I paused.

"I thought you'd want more than I could really give. I was afraid, but realized that all I have to do is talk. Tell you what is in my head. We, well, I want to have more nights like that, more mornings like today's and I want them all the time. You and I are a team, you and everyone in my small pack is family," I told him as he remained silent. Listening to me.

"When I came here I wanted, normal, but I've started to realize that you and I could create our own normal for us, for Ava. I- I feel silly," I said at the end and I did feel foolish.

"Why baby?" he questioned.

"I- well... I moved you in here but maybe you will not want to live with me if we aren't doing more physical things..."

"Stop right there!" he pulled me close.

"Needs? Yeah I have them but I will never force you to do anything you aren't comfortable with Chelsea. I know I messed up, but I won't make that same mistake twice," he said easing my mind a bit.

He snorted. "Needs..." he said mockingly, "I need you Chelsea, need to see you smile, pout, roll those green eyes of yours..." he said.

"So you are okay with waiting?" I asked one more time.

"I don't think we are ready for more. I want you; do not get me wrong, you are one of a kind beautiful. When we finally get there, I know it will be amazing and nothing will compare okay?" I could only nod. Is this the truth? I wondered.

Yes mate is not lying...

Relaxing he continued, "we are mates but I don't want s-e-x to be something we do because that's what people do. I want you to trust me, I want intimacy, and I want you to- to-" he stopped speaking, struggling, "I want you to love me," he whispered.

"I think we should build our foundation, nurture our mate bond in other was before..."

Where was this guy the night we met?

See Chelsea... mate is very good! Aria thought.

"Waiting for you to bring him out, only you," he answered. Did I say that out loud?

"To answer your question. I am more than okay with us waiting love. No rush. No pressure. As long as I can kiss you, hold you whenever I want, wake up next to you, I'll wait, you are worth waiting for mate," he said and remained silent.

There was more that needed to be discussed but we had time, and quite frankly I was happy with my decisions and this talk.
