Chapter Twenty-One - Dust Hasn't Settled (Gabriel's POV)

I couldn't understand when they let her agree to this fight but now I did, she killed Maggie and while I grew up with Maggie I was happy that Chelsea killed her. I didn't understand at first so I begged for them to stop her but they had this confidence in her that was confusing, until I saw her shift. My wisp of a mate girl was a beautiful Alpha sized white wolf, there were not any left in the world as far as everyone knew.

Mate is beautiful, my wolf said in a daze.

The myth was that they were directly related to the Goddess and held a strength that was stronger than any regular wolf. They had the natural ability to challenge anyone, but with training they were impossible to dominate. No one had seen a white wolf in a very long time, when she looked at me before Maggie attacked her I couldn't understand why she would take her focus off of Maggie that was the number one thing you shouldn't do in a battle; all wolves no matter how young never took their eyes off their opponent.

I was terrified when I saw Maggie leap, I couldn't look away but out of the corner of my eyes I saw her guards and they looked confident.

She was mesmerizing, words couldn't explain; one minute I was looking at a brunette human, and if you blinked you would have missed it. She was pure white, twice the size of Maggie; my family was all shocked as was Maggie's, I heard their gasps and saw their wide eyes.

Looking directly at Jay I knew what he was thinking, he was regretting this; he knew the myth on white wolves. Seeing my mate move I knew that not only could she take Maggie but also I was fairly certain she could take Jay and Ames.

Then it all made sense, the confident smirks her pack wore, her demanding that she didn't want to fight Maggie to the death. My mate knew she could take Maggie; it was then that I became very disappointed with my family and I was ashamed. They all thought she would kill my mate and all of them came, the only person that looked like she didn't approve of this challenge was my mother who had walked away from my father to stand near me. I glanced at her quickly once Chelsea made a move; she brought her hands up to her mouth shakily. The victorious smirks and smug faces on the Colts and my family dropped immediately, I couldn't understand their behavior.

What the hell did they think would happen if Maggie killed my mate? That I would accept Maggie? God either way no matter how this ended Maggie would have ended up dead, either by my mates' hands or by mine.

Jay was Chelsea's biological father and what? He didn't raise her so that meant her life was expendable? What I didn't understand was Audrey, he had Audrey, they were twins... didn't all fathers love their offspring? He came along with Maggie, his wife and mate, their children to watch my mate die and I was filled with rage at the thought. It was taking all my energy to control my wolf, not to help my mate, but to not kill Jay, my father, our family.

We were killers by nature but could control that to live peacefully among others, however at this moment I felt like we had all become so cold. This was worse than when animals in the wild ate their own babies; my father used Maggie to try and control what I would do. He knew I rejected my family and pack, I'm sure he felt it and I'm sure my mother had tried to talk him and Maggie out of doing this but he wanted to get his way no matter what.

When the fight was over and Chelsea had won, she walked over to Jack; he took his shirt off and gave it to Chelsea. She walked behind a car and changed coming back in his shirt and really short black cotton shorts. There was nothing more I wanted than to peal every layer of clothing off of her and check for injuries but I could tell with my eyes that her hands had a few scratches; one on her face but for the most part, Maggie hadn't done any damage. She was calm and collected but she was angry as well I listened to what she said to the Colts, pretending that my family wasn't even here. When she finishing speaking, I turned to watch her walk away but before she could even make it far enough I saw Audrey grab the gun that was holstered in Jay's side, in the moment I knew she was aiming at my mate.

I wasn't close enough to her but I was near Chelsea so I ran in her direction to knock her down, take her out of harms way. Jamie realized what was going on and being closer to Audrey took off in full speed, shifting mid air but he was already too late. I crashed into her a few seconds after I heard the gun go off, but before I could think of how hard the impact would be on Chelsea I landed on top of her and heard her skull hit and crack once we fell to the ground.

The first shot that Audrey fired didn't make it to my mate, instead it hit Jamie, the second shot she had time to fire also hit Jamie but that didn't stop him immediately, while checking to see if he had it handled I saw that even though the bullet hit him he was dead set on attacking Audrey.

When Jamie crashed into Audrey the gun in her hand went flying in one-direction but Jamie's weight and velocity sent her flying in another direction, then there was a loud snap, well loud to me as a werewolf. It was seconds, I looked to where Audrey had fell and saw that she landed in an odd shape and I could tell that the snap we all heard was her one of her ribs and spine. Before doing anything else my eyes snapped back to Chelsea and I saw that there was blood behind her head.

"Chelsea! Chelsea! I'm so sorry, Oh god! Mom!!" I shouted for her to come help me with Chelsea; even though she was a psychiatrist and not a medical doctor she would know what to do.

I didn't know what was happening with Audrey and I didn't give a fuck about that either, they all brought this down upon themselves. Jamie was a different story I saw Samuel helping his mate, while my dad stood around looking like all of this was some type of dream. I saw red. He did this.

Everyone from Chelsea's pack was screaming giving orders, even though she was a wolf she had taken a pretty hard hit to the head, "Gabriel lift her carefully onto the carrying board," my mom shouted at me. Where did a carrying board even come from? I wondered confusedly.

Wrong time to ponder this, now help mate!

Slowly we loaded Chelsea up and put her in the car, while they were loading Jamie into another car, I couldn't think I was going crazy. Chelsea and I hadn't mated completely so I couldn't feel her physical pain yet but at this moment, with the headache that I had I swore I could. Chelsea didn't have a pack hospital so I knew we were taking her to Our Lady of Resurrection Hospital, it was public but had so many wolves working there that they knew how to take care of our kind.

It was a 15-minute drive to the hospital but strange things just continued to happen today, and in that drive one of those things happened. With the amount of blood I saw, the crack I heard when Chelsea's head smacked against the concrete I expected that we needed a brain scan completed and she would probably be out for much longer.

Various different outcomes were all sending me into panic but I knew they were reasonable, possible outcomes but what I panicked about is not what happened. A few minutes before we got to the hospital Chelsea started waking up and coming too, almost as if she had just awoken from a nap, not having her head slammed on concrete.

"What's going on?" she asked confusedly, rubbing her hand on her head trying to sit up. I was probably in shock, I take that back I know I was in shock. I couldn't even answer and my jaw was just hanging open, my eyes so wide; to say I was confused would be a huge understatement.

"What- h-how are you awake right now? Are you in pain? How's your head?" I questioned quickly out loud. Not answering my question Chelsea spoke, "Where are we going Jack?" she asked him.

"When you walked away from the Colts, Audrey grabbed her fathers gun and shot you, Gabe knocked you out of the way but Jamie went right for Audrey, Jamie was hit twice, one hit right near his heart, the other his stomach we think, he is in another car being taken to the hospital," he said tightly.

"Which hospital?" Chelsea asked.

"A public one," he said.

Chelsea was still for a moment before slowly pulling her body right side up, and turning to me. She was looking at me strangely, but didn't speak so I did, "How are you even speaking right now Chelsea?" Her eyes flicked to Jack quickly.

"I'm a white wolf Gabriel, I can heal much quicker than other wolves." She said with a hinge of deception. I didn't know my mate very well but I knew when someone was lying to me, or not telling me the full truth. I would not be successful as I have been if I couldn't tell when someone was trying to pull one over on me. In my line of work, when I was being cheated, scammed, and deceived or whatever you want to call it, I had to be able to sort out the facts and quickly. She was holding something back, but I wasn't sure what to do here. I hadn't been the best mate so I wasn't sure if I had the right to question her deeply or press her for answers.

She will tell you when she's ready; you've messed up enough already! Make sure mate is okay, said my wolf.

"How do you feel?" I asked once more.

She just shook her head at me, "I'm exhausted Gabriel, why would Jamie even attack Audrey?" she whispered disbelievingly at the end; so confused I tried to get into her head, see what she was thinking but even that was blocking me out.

When we arrived at the hospital, we were right behind the car that was taking Jamie to the hospital, getting out quickly and running to Chelsea's side of the car to help her I saw Samuel, my mother, Casey, all standing by while emergency room workers transferred Jamie from the car to a gurney "patient has a GSW to the chest and stomach," explained Casey.  As they took him behind closed doors we all went to sit in the waiting for while they worked on Jamie.

Casey came to Chelsea, sat next to her. "We already called Molly to let her know what happened she said she will be here in 20 minutes." He whispered quietly, Chelsea just nodded her head in understanding.

This was unbearable even too me, I never was one for public shows of affection of any kind but right now with everything that had happened, right now in this very moment... I craved my mates' touch. Not sure how she would react, I know she said we would only be friends but I steeled forward to pick up her hand resting on her thighs. I was nervous, afraid she would call me out, but that never came instead I was holding my mates hand, my wolf purring at the tiny bit of connection. I had already tuned everyone out just concentrating of the peacefulness of the tiny bit of contact, but when a woman who looked like Jamie came frantically into the waiting room all hell broke loose.

"What happened? Did you hear anything yet?" she asked hysterically already panicked. I could see Casey who sat next to Chelsea about to answer the woman but he was cut off before any words could even fall from his lips.

"Why don't you ask her, its all her fucking fault!" If I weren't there I would never believe that the person who had spoke was my brother Samuel, but it was.
