Chapter Twelve- Marked? Check. Rejected? Maybe?
"You guys I'm fine, we have class in 40 minutes we should just get ready to go." I said hoping off my bed and walking to my closet. I just wanted them to leave so I could get on with my day, knowing I'd deal with Gabe later. I furious but honestly what did I expect, we marked each other before even knowing if we really were meant to be together, not just thrown together because the Goddess had predetermined that we would be paired.
Taking a quick shower, I then dressed in blue skinny jean, my 'suck it and see,' arctic monkeys shirt, converse and I grabbed a sweater incase rooms were air conditioned and I got cold. Then grabbing my dance bag already packed with clothes and appropriate shoes I walked to my study, taking my textbooks for both math classes I would have that day before dance, then I packed my assignment as well.
Knowing that I had an art class tomorrow I grabbed my sketchbook to draw during my math classes. When I was ready I went downstairs, to meet everyone who I'm sure Jack and Casey already filled in on my morning of pain because of my mate.
I didn't want to think about Gabe and what he did, I wanted to ignore it but I had, had enough from him. Who the hell did he think he was? I mean his pack treated my mom like an insignificant scrub and all of a sudden he wants to treat me like that too? Mark me! But still have Maggie too... I thought then against my own will thinking about the Alpha's words too me. Nothing but a slut on the side...
No one was speaking so I decided to speak first, break the awkwardness. "Look I'm fine." Violet looked at me, he face screaming disbelief at my statement. "Look I want his things out of my house, and I want you to put them near the gate entrance where the security waits. I'll handle him when I get home from my dance class." I said as nonchalant as possible although I was raging with dread and a handful of other feelings that I had never embodied.
"Okay... well we need to leave, you guys have class in 15 minutes... and it's a 10 minute drive so..." Jack said in a non-joking, lets get down to business matter. I nodded my head in understanding and walked out of the door, followed by Violet, Jack, Noah and Jamie who would be in all my classes along with Lucas today.
As we neared the school I was getting nervous... I had never really gone to a class and although I didn't have to participate, just being around so many of my peers was terrifying.
"Chels, are you okay?" asked Jamie concern in his question.
"Yeah, I'm good why?"
"I swear I can hear your heart beat... and you're like 5 minutes away from panting trying to catch your breath." He tapered off.
"Yeah, just nervous..."
"Look Chelsea, going to University is a good thing you're doing here... you have all of us here and we will protect you just go experience this okay? Don't worry about Leo, we have our eyes wide open, and ready for him.
When we finally arrived, found parking and began walking towards my first math class my nerves were getting the better of me, and I wanted this first day to be over already. Looking at my watch I could see that Jamie and I were neither early or late, and the closer we got to our destination the faster my heart began to beat.
Chelsea there are two doors, I will be on one end and Noah will be at the other, Lucas will be in the car while Alex was following us and remained near Lucas. Violet will be the relief for either Noah or I, okay? Said Jack.
I got it... I thought to him.
Don't worry you'll do fine kid... then he shut off the link. As Jamie and I began walking towards the door to the classroom I smelt something.
Mate.
I stopped walking, not wanting to have to face him already, I wasn't prepared for this here, right now. I was hoping to do this at home, mostly because then I could run and hide as weak as that sounded but it seemed that I was going to have to put on my big girl panties.
My mate is in this class I mind linked Jamie, Noah and Jack. Then shut it off before I could even hear all of their replies.
As Jamie and I walked into the class, in the second row was none other than Gabriel and on his right Maggie, on his left Ames, Scarlet, Samuel and finally Madeline.
Just. Freaking. Perfect. While I did register that they were all here in my class as well, I was focused more on the fact that my mate was hugging Maggie, while she had her head on his shoulder. They didn't look like just friends; they looked like they were mates. They were sitting the exact same way that mates, Ames and Scarlet were sitting, while Samuel was happy to see his mate the moment he realized that I was standing next to Jamie watching Gabe and Maggie who still hadn't saw me in front of them I heard him give a murmured "fuck!"
Samuels whispered expletive is what caused Gabe to finally pay attention to me, and when he did I felt like I couldn't move. Thank Goddess Jamie was with me because I didn't know what I wanted to do more. Run, throw up, cry or yell... Jamie grabbed my hand and pulled me towards the last row in the room, ignoring his mate completely to find us a seat.
Are you okay? He asked but I was too busy keeping my head down afraid of what I would see, furious and let down by Gabe. I could hear him trying to get through on my mind link but I blocked him out and soon could only hear Jamie.
Chelsea?
I'm fine. It's not like we need to pay attention so I'm just gonna draw... I mind linked him while grabbing my sketchpad and beginning a new drawing I wanted to paint. When the teacher came in and started to hand out a syllabi's for the class. Before he began taking roll I prayed that he wouldn't call me up to his desk to talk privately before class and just to wait till the end but since this day was obviously not going my way... I heard him call out to the class looking for the person to match the name...
"Chelsea Hobbs?" he called out.
Lifting my head then my hand to show where I was hoping that was enough, but of course not.
Beckoning me with his finger, I grabbed my assignment and walked toward the front of his desk ignoring all the weird looks I was getting from everyone and pretending that I didn't feel my siblings and mates' eyes burning holes in the back of my head. Probably wondering why I was in this class at only 17 years old. I wanted to be smug about that but my heart was still in my stomach, after witnessing how close Gabe was to her.
"Miss Hobbs, welcome to my class," he said holding out his hand for me to shake, he was a werewolf and but I could tell that he didn't belong to Gabe's Pack though. Instead of shaking his hand I decided to hand him the homework assignment. Taking it from my hand and glancing over the 4-stapled pages, his eyes showing shock that all my answers were correct he tilted his head to examine me, which was now making me, feel uncomfortable.
"Are you sure you wouldn't rather T.A. for this class?" he asked once again.
"No sir, I'm fine just doing the work you assign and/or email me."
"Well I guess I'm up to the challenge to finding you material that could challenge you since nothing in this class will do that..." he said wistfully shaking his head at me.
"Okay sir," I hushed whispered because I could tell that out of 39 people in this room 19 including Ames, Scarlet, Gabe, Sam, Maggie, Madeline, Jamie and I were wolves and could hear no matter how low our voices were. I quickly walked back to my seat in the back while ignoring everyone and began to draw for the next 2 hours until finally Jamie nudged me to let me know that class was about to be over. Packing up our things quietly, then leaving out of the back door I was relieved that I wouldn't have to encounter Gabriel. I didn't know how I was going to do this, I felt like I was going to lose myself in all these changes. It was like I was over reaching trying to prove something not just to myself but others, when no one would think less of me if I had just taken one class. Oddly being around all these people was making me edgy as hell.
In-between our two math classes we decided that we would go pick something up from Chipotle Mexican Grill for lunch. When we returned back to campus I was exhausted for some reason and knew that the dance class I took, would need to be dropped because I just felt restless and didn't want to be put on show. I would have enough credits to graduate even with dropping the dance classes as would Jamie so right after our math classes we decided we would see a student adviser.
So while we had discussed this at lunch when we walked into our second math class low and behold, we see everyone once again; leading to a repeat performance from this professor as well. However this time, I was too agitated to ignore Gabe's eyes, but when he looked into mine I knew all he saw was nothing, because I kept them blank. Walking into my second class I noticed that although he was sitting with all of them, he no longer had his arm wrapped up around Maggie, but she did have her head on his shoulder, smiling smugly at me. I was not an arrogant type of person but I don't think she understood exactly what she was too him. She was the want to be me, the fake. Well that's what Jamie said while I just nodded my head.
While the other class was just a breeze, professor Vincent was a no bullshit kind of man, calling me up I handed in my work but before I could turn around he handed me a packet of what he called his hardest work plus 6 pages.
"So I spoke to professor Macula, and he said that your assignment for his class was flawless." Statement. So I just remained quiet until he asked something that required me speaking.
"Before I came to class I went and ran off the four main exams for this class. If you can pass them I see no reason for you to even bother doing the work I assigned originally. Today you'll do one and then on Wednesday you'll complete one, with that pattern until next week for the last exam." He explained.
"Actually do you have all of them with you right now?" I asked him.
"Yes I do, but I'm only giving you the first one. If I give them all to you, how am I to know if you didn't cheat to find the answers to the rest?"
"What do you mean?" I asked confused.
"Well you wont be able to complete them all today. So that means when you leave you will know the questions." I cocked my head to the side before answering.
"I'll finish them all today. This class is 2 hours and 25 minutes long that's more than enough time to finish 4 exams." I said confidently.
Handing them to me in an almost predatory smug smile I realized he wanted me to fail... that's supportive I thought to myself. I walked back to my last row seat and began working on the four exams breezing through them easily with 15 minutes left to spare in this class. For the entire period I had not been paying attention focused solely on my exam. When I placed my pencil down I saw that he had asked if any student could come up to the board and solve a problem. While he stood by watching, as did the rest of the class, Maggie, was at the board almost finished solving the problem. When she was done she stood back and looked towards Professor Vincent. Not giving anything away he asked "Are you sure that is the answer?" Her reply was the most over confident yes given.
What's going on? I asked Jamie who was seated to my right.
He asked if any one student can come up to the board to solve this equation correctly he would cut all the assignments in half. So instead of the crazy 100 problems per assignment, it would only be 40 maybe 50. Maggie went up. He said.
Why didn't you? I wondered.
I'm not good at this math level, the other math class I'm working at your level but this one I need to actually learn... oh and I hope you know you're gonna tutor me... he teased over the mind link.
Returning my attention to the front of the room I heard Professor Vincent ask if anyone disagreed with her given solution. It really wasn't like me to do what I did next; I would have rather become invisible for the next 4 months until this semester was over. However I got up, grabbed the 4 exams he thought I wouldn't be able to finish and walked to the front of the room. Handing them over while saying clearly, "I disagree with her final answer." Which caused a few people to gasp because well in this room I could clearly tell that out of 45 students 30 of them were werewolves and this room smelled strongly of Gabe's pack. She must have some type of reputation as being 'good' at math, but I was better than good. Once I had said I disagreed I was ready to walk back to my seat, however professor smug who not looked at me in awe after flipping quickly through the 4 exams said, "Well if she's incorrect, then by all means you go and solve the problem."
I just shrugged, and walked towards the dry erase board, picked up a pen and copied down the same problem Maggie had tried to solve. And instead of taking up the whole board unnecessarily I simply wrote in big capital letters 'NO SOLUTION.' Then placed the caps for the marker back on, and leave the marker on the ledge of the board. I could hear Maggie and a few other cackling at my answer but I knew I was correct. But I was beginning to think that the people in that pack just followed the Alpha and Beta's kids like sheep.
"Interesting... so you both believe that your answer is correct?" asked Prof. Vincent.
I shrugged in disinterest at this but answered aloud anyway "Well she's wrong but since this room is filled with sheep, she believes she is correct because they are supporting her. It's the blind leading the blind sir..." I said plainly and heard Jamie chuckle. As well as Jack who was right outside the open door and Prof. Vincent try to turn his laughter into a cough; fail.
"My answer is not wrong," said Maggie.
Turning to her, to my older half sister and looking at her I could see why Gabe would want her, why he would cheat on me with her, why my dad had stayed with her mom instead of mine, she was beautiful and while I am sure she was an intelligent person, in this moment she was incorrect. "Look I'm not arguing with you, I'm above that. The answer you have is wrong. If you want to believe it's right then what's the point of coming to class to learn. You're here to learn, and today you're going to learn that your answer is incorrect." I said then walked back to my desk leaving her up there.
"Hmm well how about we make this interesting," said Prof. Vincent.
"How many of you in this room think Ms. Colt has given the correct answer, raise your hands?" and surprise, surprise the whole class, minus Jamie lifted their hands. Still Prof. Vincent's face gave nothing away.
"Okay and I'm guessing you sitting next to her..." he trailed.
"Jamie."
"Right, you next to her believe she is correct? I assume."
"Yeah."
"Why?" asked Prof. Vincent.
"Well I'm not a sheep and I don't tend to follow blindly. She made a mistake, but is too full of herself to catch her mistake."
"Interesting, class... well how about this one last chance, if you side with the incorrect answers you will all be writing papers every week until the semester is over in addition to already assigned material. If you side with the correct individual no extra work, 10 extra credit points on 3 exams and a free pass on one of the four exams." Said Vincent looking out towards the class.
"Again, who here thinks Maggie is correct raise your hand?" everyone but Sam and Jamie agreed that Maggie was correct. Leaving just Jamie and Sam believing my answer was the correct choice.
"Well Ms. Colt and followers I guess I'll just say now. The papers will be on different mathematicians each week, no group papers."
"Wait!! Maggie was wrong?" asked another student making me laugh.
"Yes. Your leader was incorrect," Vincent joked. "So when you're writing that paper just know the person to blame here is Ms. Colt. Anyways the paper due Wednesday will be about Greek Mathematician Pythagoras, I want to know what he was famous for, about his life... basically 5-7 pages double spaced." He explained, then looked to the clock and said "Well class if over see everyone Wednesday."
I was trying to get my things ready to leave when all of a sudden I see Maggie coming up to me with a sneer upon her face.
"How dare you embarrass me like that?" I looked at her with a raised eyebrow.
"So it's my fault that you made an idiot of yourself?" I asked confused.
"Maggie, leave Chelsea alone!" I heard from Gabe surprising me but I didn't need a man to stand up for me.
"No, everyone knows I'm the Beta's daughter Gabe!" she said pouting causing me to burst out into laughter.
"That's all you have? You do realize that I'm the Beta's daughter too right?" I said through my laughter.
"Yeah but at least he kept me!" she said then smirked. Rolling my eyes I turned to walk away, however she just couldn't leave it alone.
"I'm not done talking to you," she said grabbing my arm but before I could get control I had already turned, flipped her hand back at the wrist and punched her in the face, breaking her nose.
"Do. Not. Touch. Me!" I gritted out. I had enough but seeing what happened next was my breaking point. Gabe rushed to her and started tending to her injuries ignoring me once again. Cheated on me with her, right after marking me, making a fool of me over and over again. I looked around the room and saw that only wolves were left in the room. Standing up straight I let my anger fuel this next moment.
"I Chelsea Hobbs, reject you-" I was interrupted by Jack's loud voice.
"Noooo!!"
