2: Vixen

~Recap~

"Are you sure you want me to say..." she smiled "...why I want to walk home with you here and now?"

What is this? This strange feeling of nervousness?

"That's what I want to know," I told her directly. Her smile grew wider. I am a man! No more backing out!

"Well, it's because I..." she said and I noticed a slight blush in her cheeks. Wait. Wait. What is this? She looked at me in the eye. I had no idea what she was going to say. "...I like you."

"..."

Time froze. All the people looking at us were in shock.

I tried to wake myself up from my own little world but couldn't.

"I burn for you," she added.

"You what?!" I asked in a high pitched voice.

"I'm hot for you," she added again.

"Wait, you're not making sense!" I told her.

"You make me hot," she told me again while placing her clenched right hand on her chest near her heart and also closing her eyes.

"I get the point!" I shouted right back at her to make her shut up and cause more misunderstandings.

Things just got worse when I heard my classmates making a fuss. Looks like they awakened from the shock too.

"Everyone seems to be making a fuss," Mangle told me. "I can't stay here any longer! Please take me somewhere! Please take me away!" she says as she clings to my left arm.

"Huh?!" I asked her again trying to shake her off.

TOGETHER, with her hands clinging to my arms, and me without any other choice, we passed through the hallway...where a lot of people are gathering!!! I can hear whispers about us. Their shocked faces were also obvious that they wanted to ask "Are they dating?" or "Why did Mangle choose a guy like him?"

We walked and walked until we reached a place. I looked at left, right and back to see if anyone was looking. Realizing that there wasn't anyone, I pulled her hand and stared at her intently.

"What is it? Why did you bring me here?" she asked me and looked at left and right. Realizing there's no one else, she blushed and looked at me in shock. "Wait, it's too soon! We're still--"

Before she finished her lines about idiocy, I cut her off wanting to know the truth. "Why did you lie like that?" I asked her.

"'Lie'? How mean...It took all my courage to say that, and you're saying I was lying?!" she told me in frustration.

"But it was, wasn't it?" I tried to pursue her into telling the truth again.

"You're saying that I actually hate you? That just cause we sit next to each other, I couldn't possibly like you?! You're an idiot. Just a damned virgin. Trying to get on your high horse, even though you're just a chicken. Is that it?" she looked up at me.

Wait. What was that? Did she actually speak like that to me?

"Nothing that harsh!" I exclaimed.

"Well, if you've seen through me, then I have no choice," she told me with a wicked smirk painted on her face. "It's just as you say, Foxy."

I stared at her with my shocked eyes.

"My confession was a lie," she revealed.

But it didn't stop there. She had more to say to me. "Just as I thought, you are a little different from the other guys. Now then, what should we talk about first?" she asked me.

"'What should we talk about first'?! World War III will start and the world will end!" I told her in a panicked voice.

"Then, let it end," she told me glumly "If this is a world where there's someone who would raise suspicion about World War III, then I'd rather see it end."

"The world's going to end because of me?!" I asked her. I stepped back. I did it again. My delusional habits came out. "Sorry, I may have been over-thinking that."

"It's fine," she told me. "In any event, Foxy, ever since I transferred to this school, I've been asked out fifty-eight times in those two months."

"That's almost daily," I commented.

"To be honest, I'm growing tired of it. Day in, day out, being the center of affection for so many...Things I've done and haven't done became rumors. There's nothing good about it." she put up a straight face and so did I.

"What about your friends?" I asked her.

"I've lived overseas since I was seven, and I only returned to this city this past March," she told me.

"Then, why not just date one of the guys who asks you out? That way, everyone else would give up," I slumped.

She scoffed. "Dating? Why do I have to reduce myself to the level of such rubbish? So I should view love as the ultimate goal, and then, whenever Christmas or Valentine's comes around, I dance like a fool and give and receive presents. Is that it? Is love really that wonderful?"

What's this hatred about?

"You should understand perfectly, Foxy," she looked at me in the eye. "That love crap can take a hike."

That love crap can take a hike.

My eyes grew wide at the sudden realization.

"People who want to be in love can do so on their own. But I...don't want any of it," she told me as she shook her head.

I stared at her.

"So the reason you 'confessed' to me...You want someone you can pretend to date," I stated.

She smiled at me. "I see why you're top of our grade. You're speedy comprehension saves me time," she said and smiled at me.

"Why me of all people?" I asked her.

"Because you're the same as me, aren't you? You understood quickly. You seem put off by love too. I didn't just sit next to you for fun.  You're pretty impressive. I thought you were gay at first," she explained.

"Okay, so not impressive," I told her with furrowed brows. I am so NOT GAY!!!

"With all that said Foxy Fairfox, please become my 'fake' boyfriend."

"I don't want to," I told her not hesitating at all with my answer.

"I say boyfriend but all you have to do is walk with me everyday." She continued on convincing me. But I didn't budge.

"No. The guys seem that they'll be jealous. And the girls would probably start rumors," I told her.

"I guess we really are alike," she said.

"Why?" I asked.

"I worry a lot, just like you," she told me as she walked toward me. "That's why there's one more important thing...necessary for my fake boyfriend to possess, other than a disinterest in love. "

Our faces were just 5  inches apart. She whispered with her sweet devilish voice. "He'd have to be someone, who wouldn't betray me, no matter what, Foxy. There's no one else, other than you, who has these traits. That's why, I don't plan on letting you get away, Foxy."

My heart skipped as she said the last sentence. She stepped back and grabbed something out from her bag. She raised it up and I saw a blue notebook.

"What is that?" I asked her.

She just smirked. She started to skim through the pages and read. "April 21st. Sunday. Sunny. I went to buy those fingerless gloves at a store. The shop keeper while making a strange face told me that they didn't have any. I was bit disappointed but I told myself to try again in another shop next time."

"Huh? Fingerless gloves?" I asked her. Though, she continued on reading.

" April 22nd. Monday. It was raining on the way home today. I had my collapsible umbrella with me but I got wet anyway. The rain is nice. It washes away my dirty destiny for me, you see?"

"Are you stupid? Dirty destiny?" I said while making a face. "What's that supposed to be?"

I started to feel uneasy. I know that something is wrong. Mangle continued one reading.

"April 23rd. Tuesday. Cloudy. On the way back home, Chica asked me why I was walking around with a firecracker.  I told her 'If you were attacked by an armed terrorist, what will you do?' Having been defeated, Chica pouted in silence. Women are so shallow."

I fakely  laughed. "Ha...ha...How stupid. I can see just the look on this Chica girl's face...Wait. ISN'T THAT MY NOTEBOOK?!"

"Why do you have that?!" I questioned her.

"I bought it from a used bookstore in front of the  station. It was 520 pesos after tax," she told me and smiled.

"No way!" I shouted at myself.

"It actually came from a inside a picture animal encyclopedia," she told me.

It's true that I hid my diary on an encyclopedia...but...I would never ever sell it! Did I make a mistake to a certain customer in my part-time job?!

"It's foolish to ignore reality, Foxy," she told me.

"Give that back! There's a lot of embarrassing things written there!" I tried to snatch it from her bands but she she keeps on dodging.

"I don't want to," she said while making a face. "Don't worry. I've already scanned all the pages and saved them in my PC."

"WHAT?!" My eyes widened.

"They're supposed to be secure on there, but they might get accidentally leaked somehow. The internet's a scary place." She looked at me with pity. I gritted my teeth.

"I'll ask you one more time. Foxy Fairfox, will you become my fake boyfriend?"

"You devil witch..." I cursed.

"Sorry? I didn't quite hear you. I wonder if that is a sign that my PC's getting a virus?" she told me.

"Fine! Fine! I'll do it! I'll be your boyfriend!" I told her.

She smiled at me. "From now on...call me Vixen, Foxy."

"Why 'Vixen'?" I asked out of curiosity.

"That's my real name. Vixen Mangle Wolfe. You should be grateful. Only people that are special to me call me by that name. Keep it a secret okay?" she told me.

I didn't ask her questions anymore and she just wrapped her hands on my arms.

"Now, let go walk home together, my beloved boyfriend Foxy."
