4. The Chaperone
It was a busy day at the Krusty Krab; Spongebob was making patties when he heard the sound of sobbing. He thought the crying was coming from the cakes, but it was not that. It went from a giant teenage whale that wailed toward another room. Spongebob left out of the kitchen, and the crying was coming from Mr. Krab's office.
"Don't cry, love. Daddy's going to make it all right." Said Mr. Krabs, speaking to the teenage whale to soothe her from crying. "Calm down, girl!" However, the more she called, the more it created a tsunami in the restaurant.
Mr. Krabs was flooded out of his office, and the fishermen were covered in wet tears. Spongebob glanced at his boss and asked, "Mr. Krabs, what's wrong with Pearl?"
Mr. Krabs says, "Her scurvy prom date stood her up, boy, and now she can't seem to find another."
Pearl appears heartbroken that her date decided to break her up; the worst timing ever. She says, "That's because there's only fish in the sea as long, tan, and handsome as he is...And that's him!" She whimpered.
"No, no, baby. No more crying." Said Mr. Krabs. He tried to think of another idea to lighten up his daughter's mood. "We'll get you a date. Why, uh...I'll take you." He pointed at himself, but Pearl wasn't having it. It'll be weird.
Mr. Krabs looked around the restaurant and said, "What about Squidward?" Pearl wasn't pleased about going with Squidward as her date.
"Wait, wait...Here, take Spongebob." Said Mr. Krabs, lifting the young Spongebob as Pearl gasped.
"Ah! The fry cook? Do you know what that would do to my complexion?" Pearls said, eyeing down at her father, full of nervousness. "People will mistake me for a planetarium."
"What do you mean?" Mr. Krabs asked.
"I don't know...But I can't take him, Daddy." Said Pearl, rubbing her fins together, full of distress. "They'll kick me off the most frequently pictured in the yearbook committee."
Mr. Krabs knew that something like that might ruin his daughter's reputation.
"Yeah, they would. We've got to find someone else. LISTEN UP! Which lucky lubbers want to take my lovely daughter Pearl to the Prom?" Mr. Krabs asked each of the customers in the restaurant to run out as fast as possible.
It was a sign that they were not willing enough to take Mr. Krab's daughter to Prom.
Pearl's smile faded, and Spongebob was the only person who would take her.
"Just don't be late, Spongebob." Said Pearl.
She turned her heel and left out of the hospital, moping to drag herself back home. She had to get herself ready for Prom, and Mr. Krabs gave Spongebob a serious conversation.
"Now listen, boy, I'm counting on you to make this an extraordinary night for an extraordinary girl." Said Mr. Krabs as he folded his arms over his chest. "Remember, you're doing it for good old Mr...."
"Oh, hi, Mr. Krabs. Are you talking to that dummy I made?" Spongebob appeared from behind the crab with a broad smile on his face. It was a dummy that—tricked the old crab. "It's pretty realistic. I made this part out of..."
"Never mind that, boy! You're taking Pearl to her Prom." Said Mr. Krabs.
"Really? Oh, wow!" He cheered.
Spongebob salutes, "Don't worry, Mr. Krabs. I am a prom expert." He says with a giant grin on his face.
Mr. Krabs looked slightly relieved but prayed that tonight would be a good night for his daughter.
Then again...
"Aye, lad, you don't say your wife has been to prom with you?" He asked.
"Oh, Y/N? Yeah, she's been to Prom a couple of times." He replied.
"Then, maybe she can help ya, lad." Mr. Krabs says with a faint smile.
"Hm, maybe. Still, I am a prom expert, sir." Said Spongebob, with a confident grin on his face.
~
"Oh, Gary, I'm from failure. I couldn't even get a date for my junior Prom." Said Spongebob as he arrived home after getting off from work.
You were home washing a few dishes after eating dinner and had a long day for yourself. You were exhausted. Spongebob told you about Pearl's prom issue, and you felt terrible for her.
"Meow." Said Gary.
"No, that was Patrick who brought his mom." Said Spongebob.
"Meow." Said, Diane.
"Y/N has been to prom several times, but the guys she once dated never last long." Said Spongebob, as it made him feel a slight cringe. "I can't even imagine what those guys are doing now."
"Meow." Both of the snails in unison.
"Besides, how am I supposed to compare with Pearl's old boyfriend, Mr. Long, tan and handsome?" He questioned about himself compared to Pearl's ex-lover.
"Meow." Said Gary.
"What is it, Gary? What do you have?" He asked.
He digs inside the snail, and it reveals a magazine Sp.ongebob says, "Aye, Gary. This magazine gives me an idea." You peeked around the corner to see your husband running off to prepare himself for Prom.
Spongebob got to work on his outfit to make himself look very suitable, tall, handsome, and attractive. You brushed and tied your hair into a bun when he was done.
"Honey, look at me! I'm tall, tan, and handsome!" He said, moving his body around, that he became very unbalanced with the long legs that he made.
"Oh my, and you look...handsome." You chuckled.
"Yep! I'm ready to go see Pearl." Said Spongebob, but his legs were wiggly, and he struggled to move. You rushed over to him before he could topple over.
"Spongebob, why don't you not wear those to the Prom? You could get yourself hurt." You said as you stared up at your husband, worried.
"I can't do that. I must look my best to Pearl's Prom and make it the BEST night ever!" He exclaimed.
"Okay..." You said as you switched from your legs to your tail. "I'll offer you a ride on my own. I can't have you walk down the street like a wiggly warm." You snickered.
"Okay, Gary, Diane, wait till Pearl gets an eyeful of this!" He beamed.
You picked up the Spongebob to carry him out of the house by swimming with your mermaid.
"HI, SQUIDWARD!" He waved from above, being carried by you as you swam straight past Squidward's house.
When you arrive, you set Spongebob down, and the flowers are already picked for his 'date.' A white limousine arrives, parking in front of Mr. Krab's house as Spongebob knocks on the door.
Mr. Krab opened it to answer it and smiled. He turned his head to glance at Pearl, who didn't fully agree with the idea of going to Prom with Spongebob.
"What'd you think, Pearl?" Mr. Krabs asked. "Cleans up pretty good, doesn't he?" Pearl was already in her Prom wearing bright pink, less makeup--more natural to her complexion, white boots, and her hair was in a high ponytail.
"Well, at least no one will recognize you." Says Pearl. She frowned at the yellow sponge, "Now, listen, Spongebob, I just want to get through this dance with my social status intact..." Pearl began to ramble on what she wanted to do for Prom, and Spongebob had a notepad ready to take notes.
The more she talked, the more she went on forever, and there were a lot of notes scrambled on the ground.
"Uh, Pearl, we got to get back to the limo." Said Spongebob.
Pearl claps her fins together in pure joy.
"A limo! Why didn't you say so? I love limousines!" She exclaimed.
She grabbed the sponge by the arm to drag him to the limousine.
"Go easy on him, lassie! I can't afford to break in a new fry cook!" Said Mr. Krabs as he chuckled.
"Take care of my man, Pearl," You said faintly.
"You might want to switch that around because you'll never know your husband's plan for us." Said earl. As she got inside the limousine, Spongebob followed, taking a seat.
He rolled down the wi, now waving with a bright smile, "Bye honey!" you waved, watching the limousine drive off.

Spongebob P.O.V.
Pearl and I arrived together at the Prom; the place was packed full of teenagers, which brought back memories of when I was in high school. However, I had to read from her to-do list to do it together and make it the BEST PROM NIGHT EVER!
"Well, I guess the first thing we should do is..." I held out the list, ready to do what Pearl wanted for the night, only to be interrupted by a camera flash.
"Yay! My first prom picture~" She beamed, clapping her fins together.
"Uh...our first prom picture," I said, involving me being taken with her. However, she sprayed my hand to shrink it and walked around me.
"Let's get this over with." She mumbled.
This was so exciting! I couldn't wait to do all these ideas with Pearl.
"Come on, Spongebob!" She called me over, standing in the photo booth, waiting for me.
"Be right there!" I replied.
I struggled to walk with these long-leg utensils that I made myself. Pearl wasn't amused by my delay and frowned.
"Will you hurry up?" She said, standing there very impatiently.
"Uh...just a second! Coming!" I replied.
I tried my best not to fall, but my legs still made boinging sounds from walking near the photo booth.
"Here I am!" I exclaimed. I reached over to grab the photo booth and glanced at the camera. "Cheese...Oh!" However, the grip didn't last long, causing the fabric and topping to tumble down, and the camera flashed to take our picture.
"That'll be a keeper," I said.
"Look, it's Pearl! Hi, Pearl!" A feminine voice called over to Pearl. I assumed it must be one of her high school friends.
"Spongebob, here come my friends! Uh...go get me some punch!" Said Pearl.
"Prom expert, away!" I said, heading straight over to the punchbowl to grab a punch for her.
I was standing by the punchbowl, trying to grab a serving, but the spoon was hard to reach. It kept spinning around, and I tried to lean in closer. I looked over to see Pearl was talking with her friends, and I focused back on the punchbowl. Soon, I began to squirm around, losing my balance, and fell forward, gripping the tablecloth and causing the punchbowl to flip on top of me. The red liquid was being sucked up inside me.
Cause I'm a sponge, after all.
However, some fish came around me, and I offered to lend them some punch. Pearl came over, and she didn't look too happy.
"Spongebob, what are you doing?!" She asked, with an angry expression on her face.
"Hi, Pearl!" I smiled at her while holding my nose to drain the punch into a cup. I held it up, saying, "Come on, it won't bite."
"You look ridiculous!" She hissed.
With the punch drained out, I noticed Pearl's behavior as she hid behind the table beside me. I asked who it was, and she lowered me back.
"It's my ex-boyfriend, Octavious Rex, aka Long, tan, and handsome," Pearl said, but her ex-boyfriend didn't look too appealing.
"Whoa...But I bet he isn't the holder of the regional romantic dance championship trophy." I said, holding the reward before her, but it got snatched away. "That didn't just happen. Let's go!"
Third Person P.O.V.
Spongebob drags Pearl to the open dancefloor, trying to get her to dance. She wasn't dancing with him since he was doing his dance moves.
"Spongebob, what are you doing? Can't you see everybody here is doing the whack?" She pointed out to the sponge that misleading dance moves weren't compared to the ones on the beat that knew the dance.
"The whack? Oh, yeah, I invented that one." He said, trying to make it seem like he was familiar with TODAY's dance moves.
"Are you sure you can do this?" Pearl asked.
However, Spongebob wanted to prove that he could do whatever Pearl wanted him to do. He may have gone a little too overboard with it. Using his legs, he leaped forward, forcing Pearl against another couple of fish, and sent them flying to the meal table. Everything went wrong as the gym was torn, and high-pitched screaming was heard.
"Well, I guess you can take me home now. Now that you ruined everything..." She says, commencing to quiver her bottom lip and urging tears to spill.
Spongebob looked at the whale and said, "Don't cry; the prom expert is here. I haven't failed yet." He takes out the list to see what else they could do to make it more fun. The night wasn't over just yet. "Hey, we can still...No, I broke that. I know! We could...No."
As much as Spongebob wanted to plan the night between the two. It couldn't have gone better. He panicked, stressed out, and felt overwhelmed.
"D-Don't cry, d-d-d-d-don't cry." Spongebob was sweating and scrabbling through the list like crazy as his voice cracked. "Whatever you do, don't..." Spongebob began to cry out in pain as he ran away, leaving Pearl alone.
"Wow, what did you do to him? Poor little guy..." Said one of the female fishes that felt pity for the sponge.
Spongebob runs into the girl's room, crying in the women's bathroom. Pearl went over to talk to him since tonight didn't go as planned, even though it was pretty fun.
"Sponge, are you okay?" She asked.
"...Ruined everything. Oh..." Said Spongebob as he continuously cried.
"Don't worry, Spongebob--You didn't mess everything up." Said Pearl.
Spongebob wailed incoherently.
"HAHA! It was pretty funny what that hot dog landed in Judy's hair." Pearl snickered.
He continued to wailing, "...Good time."
"But I am having a good time. You know, we haven't finished our dance yet." Said Pearl.
"Can I still wear the wig?" He asked.
"Yes, you can still wear the wig." Said Pearl.
"Spongebob runs out the door saying, "Let's go!" The two entered on the dancefloor, and the DJ cranked up the music.

Even though everyone danced, it didn't entirely end well for them. Spongebob and Pearl were kicked out of the Prom but returned to Mr. Krab's place.
"Gee wizz, Pearl. I'm sorry that tonight didn't turn out like you planned." Spongebob says in an apologetic tone.
"Oh, don't worry, Spongebob. I knew it would be a total disaster all along. But as far as disasters go, that was fun." She said, with a genuine smile on her face.
"AHA! Keep away from my precious little flower!" Said Mr. Krabs, holding out a rake as Pearl gasped. He walked over to examine his flower on the ground. "You almost stepped on it."
"Oh, daddy!" Pearl exclaimed.
"Well, goodnight, short, yellow and spongy." Said Pearl, but Spongebob didn't respond. She shrugged and went inside as Mr. Krabs told him he did a great job--giving him a wink.
He went inside as the 'real' Spongebob appeared, "Oh, there you are, dummy. You sure come in handy." He says, laughing while picking up his dummy to head straight home.
~Extended Ending~
"How was your night?" You asked, lying under the covers in bed as Spongebob looked over at you with a wide smile.
"It was great! Pearl was so happy about everything we did at the prom." Said Spongebob, smiling over at you. "I can't wait to tell you all about it."
"I'm glad to hear that. How about you tell me about it in the morning? Goodnight~" You said, switching off the lamp and snuggling against your husband.
