1. Sandy Cheeks

*It was a lovely day; Spongebob was at Jellyfish fields when he appeared behind a rock pushing aside the seaweed. He then pulls out a telescope to spot jellyfish as he smiles.

"Wow, four stingers." He muttered.

Reaching his pocket, he pulled out his glasses after placing the telescope down. He leaps into the air, and sinks, holding his jelly fishing net. He was so excited! He loved to go out and play with the jellyfish on the weekends without working. On days like these, he stays home with his wife, a merprincess who decides to live with the other fishes in Bikini Bottom.

A/N: If you have read the story 🥹😶‍🌫️🌈

Spongebob glanced at the jellyfish as he tried to focus on catching it. He swung his net-a bit too fast. Turning the net caused him to catch himself. Suddenly, Spongebob heard a loud sound, more like a girl yelling and grunting simultaneously. He fleed to see where the sound came from, leaving his jellyfish net behind. From the edge of the cliff he stood, he peered down in the distance to see a weird creature he'd never seen before fighting against a giant clam. The creature fought against the clam, trying to get it off them.

Spongebob gasped. The squirrel risked her life trying not to be food for the clam. She needed help!

He thought for a second, mumbling, "Where have I seen this before?" He needed to think back to where he had seen this creature that wasn't a "water type."

Spongebob opens his Field Guide book, flipping through the papers as it says, "Land Squirrel."

"Here it is, Land Squirrel. That little squirrel is in trouble." Said Spongebob, pointing down at the fight as he watched it end.

The land squirrel held up the claim with their hands and slammed it down.

"Take that, you sorry old clam. You need to. LEARN. SOME. MANNERS!" They slammed it down into the sand and turned their heel around to leave it where it needed to be. "You're about as ugly as homemade soup.

"Hooray, Land Squirrel!" Spongebob cheered. "LOOK OUT!"

Ubruptly, the clam didn't stay in the sand too long. It manages to escape and leap into the air, following the squirrel. They were not aware of it after being trapped inside its mouth. The more punches and kicks the squirrel gave in, the clam's mouth remained shut tight. Spongebob knew she couldn't do this alone, and he ran down to help.

"Hold on, little squirrel!" Spongebob appeared as he hopped down, doing his little 'karate' moves around the clam, and landed on the top. "You have fought well, giant clam. Prepare to be conquered." He reached down to grasp the mouth, gripping it with his hands. He began to slowly or thoughtfully think he was lifting the clam.

"Hey, I'm actually doing it." He said with a faint smile.

Continuously, Spongebob began to lift open the mouth, but inside of the clam. The squirrel raised it, and she opened the jaw sending the Sponge to fly into some purple tube. Spongebob hops out of it and glares over at the clam.

"YOUR SHELL IS MINE!" He pulls up his pants and runs back over to the giant clam. Grasping onto a wet surface, thinking he was doing something, but he realized it was the tongue.

The squirrel was steadily lifting the clam's mouth and noticed him. Though, the clam shuts quickly, and Spongebob is trapped inside!

"Hold on, little square dude!" They said, running back to save the Sponge trapped inside.

The squirrel threw kicks, and punches, making the clam feel dizzy and spit out the Sponge. Then, with a final bang, the clam flew off, whimpering.

The squirrel walked back over to Sponge as the two looked at each other.

"Hey, you like karate, too." Said Spongebob.

He stood up to make some moves in front of the squirrel but flopped onto the ground.

"So, what's your name?" Spongebob asked.

"Sandy." She replied and copied him to make some moves on her own. "So, what do you call yourself?" She asked, looking over at the SpongeBob.

Spongebob stood up and ran over to a mountain, shouting, I'm Spongebob!" and did a flip. Though, he landed on the side of his head.

"Well, Spobgeob, take a gander a this," Said Sandy.

She walked over to a boulder to show him a technique she could use. So, she swiped her hand against the boulder, and rumbling was heard from it. Millions of pieces shattered, and SpongeBob covered himself to find it impressive.

"Whoa..." He quieted. Turning back to Sandy, she had a wide grin on her face. "Oh, yeah? Well, I can do this! WHA!" He did an armpit fart as the squirrel let out a chuckle.

"I like you, Spongebob. Well, we could be higher than a bark on a tree." Said Sandy. She did a karate chop on his head, only to sink a little.

"Uh, I like you too, Sandy." Said Spongebob.

Spongebob mimics her, except his hand is connected with a glass object around her head.

"Ow. Say, what's that on your head?" He asked.

"Oh, that's my air helmet," Sandy replied.

"May I try it on?" He asked.

"Heck, no. I need it to breathe. I got to have my air," She said.

"Me too! I love air. Air is good!" He boasted.

"No kidding?" Sandy was a little surprised that Spongebob liked air too for a sponge.

"Why? Air is my middle name. The more air, the better." He said with a sly grin. "Can't get enough of that air."

"How about coming over tomorrow for tea and cookies, then?" Sandy pulled out a paper to hand over to Spongebob that was instructed to lead to her tree dome. "Don't be late."

Sandy turned her heel to wave goodbye to Spongebob. He waves back.

"Okay, see you tomorrow." Said Spongebob.

Spongebob had no clue what "air" really meant. So, he decided to run home and asked Patrick for some advice.

"PATRICK!PATRICK!PATRICK!PATRICK!PATRICK!" He shouted, spotting the sea star lying on his back with shades over his eyes, getting a suntan. Spongebob stopped in his tracks, asking, "What's air?"

"Huh?" He hums, sitting up with sweat dripping down his back.

"I just met this girl. She wears a helmet full of air." Said Spongebob.

Patrick turns to Spongebob, removing his shades, "Do you mean she "puts on airs"?" he asked. He is trying to correct Spongebob's grammar as if he is saying it incorrectly.

"I guess so."

"That's just fancy talk. Hold your pinky up like this if you want to be fancy." Patrick held his pinky, smiling down a SpongeBob, "The higher you hold it, the fancier you are."

"How's that?" Spongebob copies him holding out his pinky.

"Higher."

"Like that?" Spongebob stood on his tippy toes and held his pinky up higher.

"Now, that's fancy! They should call you...Spongebob Fancypants!" Patrick said.

"You do realize that your wife can go up to the surface. She's a mermaid." Said Patrick.

"Oh yeah..." Spongebob mumbles.

Spongebob returns home as he shuts the door to hear clanking dishes in the kitchen.

"Y/N! I'm home!" He called out.

"Hi, Spongebob! How was your day at Jellyfish Fields?" You said, coming out of the kitchen and swimming towards him, drying your hands with a handtowel.

"I met this girl while I was a Jellyfish Fields. Her name is Sandy, and she's a squirrel." Said Spongebob, with a wide grin on his face. "Do you want to go to her tree house tomorrow?" He asked, looking hopefully at you, wondering if you'll say yes.

"Of course, I'll go! I'll bring some gifts to welcome her under the sea." You chimed.

"Great! Patrick will be coming too. He's going to help me out." Said Spongebob.

"By help, what do you mean, dear?" You asked, tilting the side of your head.

"He's going to help me be...uh...a little more

You giggled. "Oh, Spongebob. You don't have to worry about that when you can be yourself." You said, rubbing his spongy head with a faint smile.

"You sure?" He looks up at you with a sheepish expression.

"I know, and I'm positive." You smiled down at him as Gary and Diane appeared "meowing."

Spongebob beamed, forcing a smile on his face.

"Alright! I think I can manage." Said Spongebob.

"Good. I made you some lunch, so go ahead and grab a bite to eat." You said.

~
The next day, you and Spongebob prepared to visit Sandy's Treedome. You made a special homemade dessert to give to Sandy. Spongebob had a small bouquet to take.

"Sandy gave me a map that should lead us to her house." Said Spongebob.

"How nice." You said.

The two of you walk straight to the tree dome as Spongeob rings the doorbell. Even Patrick tagged along as he winked at Spongebob to encourage him.

"Ye-hello?" Sandy spoke through the intercom on the doorbell.

"Sandy! It's me, Spongebob, and I brought over my wife too." Said Spongebob.

"Oh! Hold on, second. I'll let you in, " Said Sandy.

Spongebob and you waited, and the water in your room began to drain. Spongebob was whistling as you were holding snacks in your hands. When the water fully drained, your legs appeared as you adjusted your dress, and Spongebob's lips struggled to whistle.

"Uh, Spongebob?" You called out to him, but he quickly ran to the door.

"SANDY! SANDY! SANDY!" He exclaimed.

"Spongebob! Calm down!" You tried to calm down the Sponge that was pounding the door.

Sandy rushed to the door and opened it revealing Spongeob and yourself. You watched the yellow sponge collapse on the ground flopping around like a fish as you stood there, shaking your head and sighing.

"Oh, dear." You sighed.

Spongebob regained himself again and said, "Sandy! Something's gone wrong. There's no water in the..." His voice trailed off as he scanned the scenery to see a large tree, a grassy field, a picnic table, and a butterfly. "...here."

You stepped around him, holding the dish in your hands as you helped Spongebob back on his feet.

"Of course, there's no water—nothing but air," Said Sandy.

Spongebob waved his hand around, then sniffed to smell no salt water.

"No water?" He repeatedly asked.

"That ain't a problem, is it?" She asked as you approached the feminine squirrel.

"Hi, I'm Y/N. Spongebob told me all about you the other day." You said as you smiled at the squirrel.

"It's nice to meet ya, miss Y/N." She said with a toothy smile.

"You can call me Y/N. I brought you some homemade snacks." You said, handing over the dish.

"Aw, shucks! You shouldn't have, but I am glad." Said Sandy. "We can have a picnic! Come on!" She said as she turned to look at Spongebob to see that he wasn't moving a muscle.

"Spongey?" You called out to him as his eyes glanced over to meet yours.

"Huh?" He snapped himself back into reality. "Oh, I'm coming!"

"Okay..." You turned your heel around to leave him, only to hear a loud cough. "...Are you sure, okay?" You asked.

"I'm fine...*COUGH* *COUGH*...with no water." He replied, with a forced smile across his face. His eyes were black inside and shrunk blue.

"Well, all right. I made Texas tea and cookies." Sandy did cartwheels in her home as you smiled along, following the squirrel. "Well, come on in." Unfortunately, you turned to look over your shoulder to see Spongebob trying his hardest to get across.

"Come on, dear!" You said, gesturing for the Sponge to come in.

His legs squeakily walked inside the home while holding the flowers.

"That's not in. In!" Said Sandy.

Spongebob does the same walk again. Sandy runs over, "You're a funny little dude! Come on; I'll give you two a grand tour." Said Sandy.

Sandy gave you and Spongebob a tour around her tree dome, and it was lovely. Except Spongebob couldn't handle being dry under the heated sun for long.

~
Spongebob sat at the picnic table as he slowly held up the flowers.

"I brought you some flowers."He said in a dry, huskily voice.

" For me? How sweet!" Says Sandy.

Sandy grasped onto the flowers, but Spongebob had his hands on them. They were hard to get out of his grasp, and his skin was so dry due to the heat that it was beginning to fall apart. You and Sandy looked at each other worried.

"You okay?" Sandy asked.

"Yes, I'm okay!" Spobgebbob reassured.

Sandy smiled. "You know? You and Y/N are both the greatest sea creatures to ever visit." She said as you smiled over at Sandy.

"I can't imagine why," Spongebob said flatly.

"Can I get you anything?" She asked.

"Mmm...we are having tea. So, tea is fine with me," You replied.

"WATER would be nice." Said Spongebob, looking at the squirrel politely.

"I'm going to put these in a vase," Said Sandy.

She turned her heel to place the flowers in a vase, and Spongebob said, "Take your time." Then, he turned his attention to you to see you were doing fine, sitting beside him under the sun. You seemed more unbothered than he was dealing with.

"Y/N? May I be excused?" He asked in a husky voice.

"What for, dear?" You asked.

"...To the bathroom." He replied.

"Go ahead.." You replied as the Sponge fled out of his seat.

He ran across the yard and over by the door gripping the wheel. He tried to open it, but his skin was so dry he could barely turn the door knob.

"I GOT TO GET OUT OF HERE! EHHHH!!" He cried out.

Then, he remembered that Patrick told him to keep his pinky out.

"I don't need water! Water is for quitters!" Spongebob exclaimed. "I don't need it! I don't need it! I don't need it! I don't need it! I don't need it! I don't need--" He sat back down next to you, holding his pinky up just as soon as Sandy appeared.

"Spongebob..." You whispered.

"Why, these flowers are just beautiful." Sandy approached the table, holding a clear vase with fresh ice cold water for the flowers. Spongeob's eyes dazed over at the vase. "They'll live much longer in a vase full of ice-cold water."

Sandy takes a seat sitting across from the two of you.

"So, tell me about yourselves. It must be fascinating being a sea critter." Said Sandy.

You were about to speak but turned to Spongebob to see him uninterested. His eyes focused on the vase filled with water, and his pinky was still in the air.

"Spongebob?" Sandy called out the yellow Sponge.

*DING*

"Oh, the cookies are ready! Be right back." Said Sandy.

Turning back to Spongebob, looking at him, worried that his behavior was slightly off.

"Spongey, do you need a helmet?" You asked.

"No." He replied.

"Spongebob, your whole body is drying up, and you don't seem like your usual self. I'll go ask Sandy if she could bring you a helmet." You replied, standing up from your seat to leave. Spongeob grasps your wrist while still holding his pinky up.

"I don't need water! Water is for quitters!" He protested.

"You need water, and I don't think I've ever heard any sea critter resist air." You argued.

Spongebob looks you in the corner of his eyes, "You resist air, too." He replied.

"I do not resist air. I'm half mermaid and half-human, Spongebob." You replied.

"Well, it's still being a quitter after all." He remarked. "Although, you might be right. I might need a helmet. Can you ask her for me?" He pleaded.

"Sponge, you don't need to ask me. You can go-" You were cut off when Sandy called out.

"Uh, can any of you help me out in the kitchen? I'm sorry to ask." She shouted from inside the treehouse.

"I'll lend you a hand!" You shouted, standing up to adjust your dress as you glanced at Spongebob. "Do you still have one?" He looked up at you, still being fried under the heated sun.

"...No...I don't need to anymore." He replied, looking up at you like you were his mother.

"...I'm getting you one. I'll be right there, Sandy!" You shouted. Quickly, you could walk inside the treehouse and shut the door to help the squirrel.

~

Spongebob sits at the picnic table all alone, with his heart throbbing. He desperately needed water and continuously stared at the glass before him. However, as a sea creature, he didn't want to give himself in when water was for quitters.

'I don't need it. I don't need it.'He argued within himself, trying not to give in. Sweat rolled down his face as his eyes didn't blink or look away from the glass.

He didn't need it.

He's fine...

"I NEED IT!" Spongebob shouted; jumping out of his seat, he landed on the table and grabbed the vase.

"NO! SPONGEBOB! NO! PINKY! PINKY!" Patrick was still outside watching everything and held out his pinky.

Spongebob held out his pinky, and Patrick smiled. He drinks icy cold water from the vase but still craving water.

"I'M A QUITTER! WAAAAAA!" He screamed.

Patrick ran to the entrance to stop Spongebob from leaving out of Sandy's home.

"You can't leave now. You'll blow it." Said Patrick.

"Air is not good, Patrick! Air is not good." Said Spongebob.

Patrick pulls him off of the doorknob, faintly smiling. "You're just being shy." He carries Spongebob in his arms, smiling happily to walk across the lawn. "Don't worry, buddy. You're doing fine."

Although it may seem fine until Patrick began to feel overheated, his body was drying up, and he let go of Spongebob and fell to his knees, coughing. He looks around, feeling as if he is inside a hot sauna.

"WHAT KING OF PLACE IS THIS?" He shouted.

The two critters fought to leave the house but were too weak. A few minutes s flew by, and you were carrying the dessert you brought, and Sandy had a try of cookies and tea.

"Spongebob! We're back!  You called out.

"Come and get it. You're all going to like this--WAHH!" Sandy jumped to see the sight of Spongebob and Patrick lying on the lawn, wholly dried out.

"Luckily, I got the helmets." You said.

"Let's put it on them." Said Sandy.

Extended Ending:

You and Sandy placed the helmets on their heads, filling them with water. Both of the sea critters were feeling much better.

"How's the water ?" You teased.

"It feels great." Said Spongebob.

"There, that ought to do it. If you all needed water, you should've just asked." Said Sandy.

You smiled, giving your husband a cheeky grin as he blushed.

Sandy returns a tray of tea to hand over to you and all. "I propose a toast to new friends!" She said as you raised your teas in the air to sip.

Spongebob and Patrick tried to drink theirs, but it didn't enter their mouths. Instead, Sandy placed the pouches in their helmets that had water in them. Then, they all drank their beverages and continued their day in Sandy's tree dome.
