Chapter 1-Prologue
It was another cold Wednesday dawn. The sun is rising and orange clouds appearing one by one.
Out of the orange sky is me walking onto the pedestrian lane towards my Elementary school.
I agreed to chafe my favorite hoodie after feeling the cold breeze from the outside world.
The jacket itself is very comfortable, its design pattern is white and black color splitting in the middle, making a contrast look.
A cool jacket for a cold-weather, what a great way to start my 6th-Elem-year first day of school. I walked towards my school, the cold breeze great strong as cars, buses, and trucks passed by me showing different models and types.
I wanted a nice car when I grow up, father once said to me, "To get a car you should study hard".
That thought came up while walking. I walked straight not switching to the other side of the sidewalk. Because I don't want bikers to be annoyed by me. And coincidentally bikes passed by me, those riders are wearing my school uniform probably from the bike club. I didn't join the club even though I know how to ride a bike.
I walk the pedestrian lane to school more and more students are appearing in front of me. Some of them are older than me probably starting middle school, and some younger than me are aided by their parents which I am very jealous of.
What can I do? My parents have early shifts relying on my grandfather to cook breakfast for me. I signed.
The crowd then slowly surrounded me until I was completely part of it. I don't feel anxious or nervous. I got to the pedestrian crossing with the crowd it's pedestrian is connected to the sidewalk and to the school.
I observed the crowd that surrounded me as the light turned green.
I can't see my friends, maybe they're just late, as I said that the light turned green walking with the rest of the crowd.
Crossing this pedestrian lane has always reminded me of the fear of getting myself ran over by a car, bus, or truck. Well, that fear is now being tested.
When I finished crossing. I looked back to see if I can see my friends but instead, I saw a blue-haired girl standing on the island looking at the traffic trying to make a run for it.
I can't see the girl clearly because I could only see 50 meters. I stopped and kept looking at her. She was hesitant to cross as cars pass in front of her.
I walked back near the end of the pedestrian crossing and examined her. She has that normal Elem girl build not fat, not thin just an average build, her skin is white and silky. She then peaked again after a car passed in front of her I thought myself.
Oh please don't do it don't take off, please stay there, please!
Saying that makes me turn my stomach, having to worry a person that I don't even know nor befriended. And the unthinkable happened, she peaked at the side of the road, and it was clear of traffic. Well, that's what she knows. She made a run for it, but it's not really clear, I saw a pickup truck driving towards the blue-haired girl at high speeds.
Without any hesitation or thought of myself doing a suicide save. I rushed towards the blue-haired girl, halfway through my dash I heard the pickup truck screaming it's horns. She stares at the truck knowing that it was going to be her death.
I quickly jumped on her putting my hand behind her head avoiding injury onto the back of her head. When we both fell onto the cemented floor. The truck swears perfectly and went off avoiding me and the blue-haired girl.
I injured my ankles, right arm limb, and my right hand placed at the back of her head causing scratches. The wounds were surprisingly not painful due to the heat of the moment. She was laying down with her eyes closed, while I am on top of her still looking at her face. She was beautiful when her eyes are closed what will it be when she opens them?
She opened her eyes when she did, it came out her bright blue eyes matching her blue hair, we both glanced at each other's eyes admiring her eyes. I was distracted by her beauty.
"Tanaka, Emi! Are you guys alright?" My four friends said in Unison.
We were cut off from our glancing as my friends are shouting. I helped her stand up while people are circling us. On that day I never knew that I would meet the most beautiful girl that I have seen. After that day, we became best friends, well more like lovers my friends admired.

New year's eve
We were sitting down at an artificial hill in the park in the middle of the New Year countdown. There were multiple hills that were created in the area, but we chose this one because it is tall, able to see the entire town and the night stars. Before we went I asked permission to go to the park and meet up, both of our parents agreed to let us meet. We are enjoying our time together before the new year starts.
"Hey Itsuki," She turned her head at me glancing onto my black eyes.
"Yes, Emi?" I glanced back at her and saw her beautiful bright blue eyes, her long blue hair, her cute smile onto her face, and the hair clip that I made for her stopping any hair from falling onto the eyebrows. She was beautiful tonight.
"I'm glad that I met you," Emi-san slowly curved her lips turning her head towards me.
"Me to Emi-San" I shoot back giving her a half-smile.
"10!" The crowd chanted the new year countdown "9! 8! 7!".
"Also, Itsuki-Kun there is something on your face" She approached her hand and her face onto mine pressing her lips onto mine.
"1!"
The moonlight was above shining us and the night with the fireworks reaching onto the sky sending colorful at fireworks patterns. I didn't mind everything as my only focus is the kiss. Her lips were soft and smooth, and her saliva was pure heaven. The good thing is that I brushed my teeth and mouth making my breath fresh. Our kiss lasted for an eternity, I couldn't even recall how long it was.
I was happy and shocked after what just happened. "I love you, Itsuki" She pulled out and gave me a smile.
I moved in and kissed her back, as a sign that 'I love her'. Under the shining moonlight, we kissed.
Unfortunately, it was the end of elementary and we have to go on our separate ways. We said goodbye to our friends and to each other before we never see each other again. She gave me a bracelet that she is wearing that day signifying our friendship. Its color is a mix of blue representing her hair color and brown symbolizing mine it was a beautiful bracelet giving meaning to our 'Friendship'.
I never wanted to go to Tokyo, I just wanted to stay with her, but what can I do they are my parents can I even protest? We promised to write letters when we are far away.
But promises aren't meant to last.

2 years later
I was writing my letter to Emi-san about having to get my first phone. I opened my phone and looked at the information on the phone, which I quickly spotted the contact number of my phone. I quickly wrote it onto the letter, I was excited to send this to the post office. Until...
BOOM!
I heard the loud bang near our apartment studio, then was flung off my desk chair landing onto the rough floor with objects flying over me. Black smoke started filling up the studio consuming every corner. My eyes felt like Hell it hurt so much. I looked at my arms looking for possible injuries. I glance onto my left wrist and my bracelet went missing probably flung by the blast.
The fire alarm sounded, but sprinklers failed. I barely heard screams from the other rooms that echoed in the hall. I quickly stood up and grabbed the phone from my desk, I began coughing and remembered to stay down when there is a fire.
I positioned myself into a crawling position crawling towards outside feeling the pain from my back. With the vision being smoke I couldn't see very well thus making me bump my head onto the wardrobe.
How goddamn it. I continued crawling and eventually, I reached the door still with thick black smoke.
I was making my way out of the building when I barely heard "Help!" behind the thick black smoke. I looked back and without a question, I went back in, as I crawl a bright red light shines through the thick black smoke it was the fire, then I remembered there was a fire extinguisher near the elevator just a few steps away from here.
I crawled towards the elevator passing burned debris, as I grabbed the extinguisher I formed a bandana around my face standing up carrying the heavy fire extinguisher.
I began running towards the blaze and when I reached there. I remembered how to operate a fire extinguisher.
I approached the room pulling the pin aiming at the fire squeezing it, swaying at the bright red blaze. I approached where I heard the screaming was and saw a person, no wait two people sitting near the window that is closed.
I tried to open the window and it worked releasing black smoke clearing the room a little. I can finally see the people there were 4 two are unconscious and wounded, 2 of them are conscious they were all teenagers and we're my batchmates.
"Thank you!" The girl expressed gratitude.
"Daiki! Carry Eiko" The girl commanded.
"Hey uhm help me carry Hayate" She commanded me in a calm tone.
We rushed towards Hayate leaving the fire extinguisher behind, while Daiki is carrying Eiko towards downstairs. We shoulder carry Hayate towards downstairs, He was not that heavy so we are very quick.
When we got downstairs the black smoke is barely visible in which we could identify each other.
When we finally got down there were a lot of people looking at the fire and more civilians evacuating the building. I and the girl put down Hayate at the sidewalk tree placing him there.
I rushed towards Daiki where Eiko was laying down unconscious
"Hey, Daiki is Eiko alright?" I asked about her condition.
"Yeah, she is fine but unconscious probably when she was flung" Daiki replied.
We were all covered with black charcoal in which makes us look like poor people. I checked myself for injuries and there were none then Daiki approached me
"Hey, Itsuki thanks for saving me and my sister" Daiki expressed his gratitude to me, then reached out his hand in a handshake.
"No problem man im just helping out" I reached out my hand and handshakes it.
Sirens started screaming into the street people that are surrounding the apartment moved for the fire engines to park. And soon many emergency vehicles appear at my apartment.
Hayate and Eiko were taken to the hospital and well I waited for my parents. I quickly called them and said they were heading.
Eventually, we need to move and about 2 or 3 days later after the fire, we moved to another district in Tokyo it was a house this time instead of an apartment but I'm still at the same school.
I became popular at my school gaining respect from my batchmates after the disaster. I was happy and proud of myself, but I didn't let pride take over me I am still humble, but from what I didn't know my best friend has a problem, a big one that would change her life and mine forever.

few weeks before the apartment fire
I was sitting down onto the back seat of my family sedan, on the way to Erono where I will meet with my grandfather and grandmother. I am wearing a t-shirt and my shorts since it's hot there.
I looked at the window where I am sitting and saw nature just pure nature rocks, trees, and the bright blue sky with various shaped white clouds.
I was amazed by its beauty.
"Hey Dad," I said. "Yes, Emi?" He replied.
"Are we going to the forest after we unpack our stuff?" I questioned.
"Sure honey, we can even go fishing"
My Dad answered while not looking at me if he did he could be distracted.
"Are you sure that it's safe going to the forest babe?" My mom got worried.
"It's totally safe my dear. I mean there are people there also fishing, so we will be fine" My Dad reassures my Mom.
I raced my hand towards my back pocket of my pants and got my wallet containing a picture of me and Itsuki.
I opened it and shows me and Itsuki showing off funny faces to the camera. I can certainly remember how we are happy on that day and it came to my thoughts about the siblings. Daiki and Eiko.
I wonder how are those two doing in Tokyo I hope they are safe, why does everyone migrate to Tokyo. I sighed Oh well I can't force them to stay it's their choice I guess. I went back to staring at the car window.
After a while of thinking things and looking at the forests, I was getting bored. I wish I had those iPhones so that I could talk to Itsuki on the phone, not by letter or telephone.
I looked at the front window and saw a sharp curve, my Dad slowed down our vehicle and slightly turns the steering wheel.
A sedan suddenly appeared in front of us forcing Dad to turn the wheel to the right, but it was too late the sedan hit us causing our vehicle to flung off the road, and onto nature rolling over into trees smashing my head causing a blackout.
On that day, my parents died and the sad part of this is that I can't remember everything. Opening my eyes seeing the usual white ceiling of the hospital, then looking over my grandmother and grandfather being saddened, as they were more saddened when I said I couldn't remember anything.
It's even sadder when the doc said she won't be remembering back her memories for a long time, but medication would help.
It was a hard time for me and my family to accept but we went through it.
After many years I moved on from that accident and I was living my life in Tokyo not knowing that I have a 'best friend' that is waiting for my letters to come.
"Why did this happen?" We said in Unison at the mirror where I could see his reflection.
His face painted with black charcoal and has tears into the corner of his eye. I needed to enter the mirror and hug him. Then he started disappearing slowly remaining only my reflection. Alone. Dark. And Scared.
