Chapter 21: Epilogue
Marinette woke up to the feel of soft pillows, silk sheets, and a pair of familiar, muscular arms wrapped around her. As she shifted, the arms tightened possessively around her and Marinette caught sight of the angel's face attached to the arms.
Hair like spun gold and sexily unkempt, flowed almost to his shoulders, which appeared to be sculpted, like that of a Greek God. His lips begged for a kiss, and when she did, the man's eyes, bright green and cat-like, opened sleepily.
"Mr. Agreste," Marinette smiled, turning to take in as much of the Adonis in her bed as she could.
"Mrs. Agreste," her husband responded, and as he reached up to stroke his wife's face, a gold wedding ring twinkled on his left hand.
"I didn't hear you come in last night, did you have any problems at work?"
"Just preparing for the Spring Fashion Show." Adrian bent to kiss Marinette's neck, starting behind her earlobe and moving down to her shoulder. "My favorite designer is supposed to debut a new line of spring dresses for the expectant mother."
His hand moved down to the gentle swell of belly that was his five-month old son. "I wonder where she got such a brilliant idea."
"Not that I don't enjoy watching you take a trip down the catwalk, but I thought I'd take a turn." Marinette teased.
"Darling, I thought I made it perfectly clear to you years ago, I will give you a private fashion show any time you want."
"Yes, my love," Marinette sighed, her husband's fingers were doing wonderful things to her body. "I am aware of that, that's how little Anthony was conceived, remember?"
"Winter fashion show if I recall," Adrian murmured, nuzzling his wife's neck.
"For Jamaica maybe." She tangled her fingers through his, bringing them up to her lips and kissing each one. "Speaking of this weekend's show...before you get too distracted..." she clutched Adrian's other hand as it slipped under her nightgown. "Alya is looking forward to showing off little Nicolette before she comes out. Sabrina is also excited, as is Rose, Chloe, Kagame and Juleka."
"You girl's didn't plan to be pregnant all at the same time, did you?" Adrian made gentle circles on Marinette's belly. "Not that I'm complaining, as CEO, I couldn't ask for a more beautiful group of models."
"I didn't plan it per se," Marinette chuckled, "I was trying to keep track of all the baby showers and I suddenly realized we could use it to our advantage."
"I love that you're so devious. Not to mention competitive. Nino said you and Alya are in a race to see who delivers first."
"Don't act so innocent, I know you've got your own bet going." Marinette scolded.
"What expectant father doesn't?"
Adrian sat up in order to kiss his wife's swollen stomach, marveling as he felt a gentle kick that was his unborn son.
"You felt that?" Marinette put a hand on her belly as there was another, harder kick. "He's either saying 'hi Daddy' or showing off his own Chaton Noir moves."
"He's too young to be trying that." Adrian frowned. "I just sounded like my father."
"It's normal to be protective." Marinette soothed, patting her husband's head. Her hand slid down to meet his, and their fingers linked, over the bump that was their future child.
"Have you talked to your father recently?" Marinette answered gently. Adrian sighed.
"I went with Mom to visit him yesterday at the jail. It's weird to think he was Hawkmoth for all those years and I didn't know it. Weirder still that after he recovered he has been quietly serving his sentence without fighting back or trying to escape." He raised his head to look into Marinette's blue eyes. "If I speak at his next parole hearing I could get his sentence reduced."
"Are you going to do it?"
Adrian was quiet.
"If you asked me that, five years ago when we got married, or ten years ago when we were still fighting him, I'd have said no. Lock him up, throw away the key, he deserves it. But I was thinking about how Natalie said he did it all for my Mom and me, and I started thinking about how I'd feel if you...or Anthony..." He kissed her belly, " were ever sick or under a spell like Mom was...and I started to understand...a little...why he did the things he did, why he was so protective of me." He took Marinette's hand and kissed her palm. "Becoming a father has made me understand my own father more. I don't know if that makes me a better man, but I'll speak for him at his next hearing."
Marinette kissed Adrian's cheek.
"I'm so proud of you." She smiled. Adrian took her other hand, held both of them.
"Marinette, I hope you know that I will do anything for you, and for Anthony and our other future children."
"Let's focus on this one, before we start planning for more, Mr. Agreste." Marinette chuckled.
"You, are my everything." Adrian continued. "Every day with you is a gift, and I'm looking forward to forever."
"Those sound suspiciously like your marriage vows, Mr. Agreste." Marinette teased, her heart beating faster as Adrian took one hand and kissed his way up her arm.
"What can I say?" Adrian glanced over to the nightstand where their wedding photo was framed.
Despite being the celebrity story of the year, it had been a very small ceremony, with only close friends and family invited. Alya and Nino had been Best Man and Matron of Honor, both wearing outfits Marinette had designed herself. Marinette's own dress was considered a masterpiece and she was still be hounded by millionaires all over the world who wanted a copy of the dress. She declined all offers, after all, her dress was a one-of-a-kind dress for a once-in-a-lifetime event.
"Every time I see you, I remember how lucky I am." Adrian murmured. He slid down the strap of his wife's nightgown to lay a trail of kisses down her shoulder and across her collarbone.
"Keep it up and we'll never get out of bed." Marinette arched as her husband's kisses went lower.
"No objections here, it's not like we have to save the world." He gave her a very Chat Noir wink. "We could play hooky from work and no one would stop us."
"Is that my favorite kitty or the CEO of a multimillion dollar company talking?"
Adrian stopped, looking down at the bare skin where his ring had been. They had said a very tearful good-bye to their kwami's before removing their miraculouses and putting them in the mansion's safe, but he still sometimes got the urge to go on patrol and look for akumas.
"Maybe a little of both." He admitted. "Chat Noir will always be a part of my identity, just like Ladybug will always be a part of you."
"Do you think we'll ever need to save the world again?"
"I hope not." Adrian admitted. "This Chat feels a little too old already."
"You'll always be my Chat Noir." Marinette pulled him close for a kiss.
"And you'll always be milady." Adrian kissed her back.
"But just in case..." Marinette smiled a smile that was all Ladybug. "We should make sure that in case the world does need to be saved, there's a hero or two for the job."
Hi Everyone,
I know there are a lot of pictures, but what the heck, this is the last chapter. I know, it's a bittersweet moment for me, but while the world has decided to go crazy I got hired to ghostwrite a series of books and I don't think I can juggle both successfully.
I want to thank everyone for their kind comments and support. You made me feel like a great writer and that confidence helped me to where I am today. I'll try to write a few stories here and there, but not on any fixed schedule. In the meantime, everyone stay safe and healthy, and don't forget to keep writing!
Sincerely,
Cantrella
P.S. Remember, I do not own any of this art, but it sure is awesome!
