91. 4pm In Calabasas
Joe's POV
"YOU SISSY, CRY BABY, INSECURE ASS, BITCH!" I yell, storming through Drake's front door.
ALL of his security was there now and every last one of them jumped between him and I. Eric and I locked eyes and he already knew I wasn't backing down.
I made a beeline towards Drake and they grabbed me. His bitch ass stood there with a smirk on his face.
"YOU CAN'T HIDE FOREVER." I yell. "YOU CAN'T CONTINUE TO DO THIS SHIT THEN TURN AROUND AND SAY YOU LOVE HER AND WANT HER BACK."
He laughs.
"OH I'M FUNNY? LAUGH AT THIS...SHE WILL NEVER TAKE YOU BACK. YOU CAN CRY AND PLAY ALL THESE CHILDISH GAMES BUT THE FACT IS SHE'S NEVER COMING BACK."
"Yeah, we'll see about that." He says
I push Eric and Nate off of me. "Everybody in this room knows you're wrong. They know you're a bitch for this. You had your ex-wife, the mother of your child, arrested because you're hurt she doesn't want you anymore."
"She was arrested because she committed a crime." He tries to correct me.
"AND YOU SHOULD BE ARRESTED FOR ATTEMPTED MURDER."
Everything goes silent.
"The only reason you're standing here right now is because she didn't want her son's father to go through what you're putting her through." I say. "You should've been dealt with and I would've gladly done it. She's the reason nothing has happened to you yet."
"Are you threatening me?"
"YES." I yell. "I'm letting every last one of you know now. If something happens to her I'm coming for him and you better NOT stop it."
"You don't wanna start something you can't finish." Drake warns
I laugh. Why am I going back and forth with this man? This is what he wants. He ain't about to do nothing but talk.
I laugh. "Okay. Whatever. I need to go to the police station." I say before turning around to leave.
Drake laughs. "This nigga really actin up. He got in the pussy one time and he grew some balls." He laughs and one of the other guys laughs too.
I turn back around.
"Bro...I'll let you think what you want but if you knew the truth you'd be sick as fuck." I say nonchalantly. He doesn't say anything. "I'M the reason she doesn't want you."
He gets a serious face and tries to wave me off. "Man, whatever."
I laugh. "That's what I thought. The truth isn't needed here. It'll cripple you. You're the one literally crying and begging for her to take you back. She tells me everything you do. Even how you wanna give her another hundred million just for her to stay with you. You're a bitch, man. For real."
The guys started looking at him funny and some laughed.
"You're desperate as hell and you have the nerve to try to come at me, someone who has nothing to do with this. She hired me to protect her from you."
"She didn't need any protection from me. She was just being dramatic."
"I don't know if we're living in a different reality from you, but if you think that you need to get checked out. Everyone standing here knows it but chooses not to say anything." I say. "And how they make their money isn't my business. My problem is you. But I'm gonna take care of you. Mark my words."
Turn around and leave.
Shawnie's POV
Officer Reed walked me into the police station. I was terrified. The last time I was in a holding sale was when that situation happened with Chris and LAPD and I will never forget it. It was disgusting. I swear I took like three showers and three baths back to back. It was a very Traumatic experience for me and the fact that I'm here again for a stupid reason I just can't fathom.
Once we got inside, he walked me into his office and sent me down. I was happy to be here because I did not want to go in that cell. I look around his office and I see it a lot of certificates and awards on the walls, that means he's been here for a while and he's obviously good at what he does. I can see there were pictures on his desk, but they weren't facing my direction so I didn't know who were in them. And he had a couple of file stacks on his desk, and at least three disposable coffee cups. That makes me think he works long hours.
I watched him close all the blinds to his office, and then he close the door. He walked back to his desk and sat in front of me and that's when I saw his name tag on his desk.
"Chief Deputy Darnell Reed. You're a Chief?" I ask
"Yes."
"Well, I guess that makes sense now why you were standing off you were letting the lower ranking officers do the job."
He laughs. "I've been working too long and too hard for many many years. So when I come on the scene now, I let them do all the work, I just observe." He says
"I understand. So why did you bring me here?"
"I did tell your little boyfriend I was going to try to hold off booking you for as long as possible. I don't think you deserve to be here and that's why I'm trying to help."
"So they only did it because he asked them to?" I ask
"Pretty much. But like I told you back at the house, he has the right if he wants to press charges for someone touching him and he didn't ask for it. That's what assault is." He explains
"This is so stupid."
"So why were you there?" He asks, grabbing a pen and notepad.
"I was there because he asked me to be. He asked me to drop off our son to him. He was supposed to pick him up from my house and he never did. Then I got a text from him hours later, asking me to drop him off. I didn't see anything wrong with that so that's what I did and then all of this happened."
"Do you have proof of that?"
"Yes, he texted me. It's on my phone."
"Okay." He starts writing something in the notepad.
"Can I tell you something?" He says
"Yes." I say
"I'm going to be real with you, Ms. Roberts. I have a long list of complaints from many people, including other women about your ex-husband. LA County has been putting together a file and somewhat building a case."
"Wow. Am I in there?"
"Of course you are. You were his wife. But what I wanna talk to you about is what you said earlier. You said he has assaulted you more than once?"
"Yes."
"I know this is a dumb question, but why didn't you report it?" He asks
"I didn't wanna get him in trouble. That's the first thing, and the second thing was even if I did call he would just use who he is to get what he wants. He always does that. He always gets out of shit just because he's Drake. And I feel like this is an example of that. That female officer was giving him googly eyes as soon as she walked through the door. I'm sick of that shit."
"Yeah, I noticed that too. But I'll tell you something else, I have been investigating and documenting everything that goes on in this office so she will be taken care of and the other two officers well too." He says. "I just like to stand back and watch them, let them think I'm on their side for a lot of stuff. But I have a confession to make."
"What's that?"
"Back when you and Chris Brown were arrested I followed that case and I was questioned about it."
"Really? I don't remember you being there." I say
"I wasn't there. But a lot of questions and files go through me and I was asked to look at it and I was part of the reason those officers got fired." He says. "So going back to the unreported incidents. Do you have any proof?"
"I don't think so." I say. "I have documents and photos of things that probably won't match up with anything."
"Nothing? No surveillance, no record of calls, or anything?" He asks
"No. Aubrey is very thorough when it comes to things like that. The altercations mostly happened in our bedroom and he doesn't have cameras in there. He only keeps surveillance of the grounds for like three months.... But there was this one incident that I did pull the video of but it really doesn't show much."
"What happened?"
"I never really looked at it, so I don't know what happened after I left but. We got into an argument. I don't even remember what it was about, probably something stupid or him being jealous or something, but it started in the bedroom and he tried to scare me into doing what he wanted me to do and I wouldn't. So he tried to choke me, but I pushed him off, and he came at me again, but somehow I got out of the bedroom, and that spilled into the hallway which went into the living room, where everyone was sitting. We were arguing and he grabbed my arm, and he wouldn't let me go."
"Was there a bruise?"
"Yes."
"I want it. Send it to me." He says
"Well, I don't... I don't know what happened after I got out of the house and I don't want anyone else to get in trouble."
"Who don't you want to get in trouble? Because I know it's not Drake?"
"I don't know what he did to him. Joe told me they wrestled a little bit but—."
"You don't have to worry about Joe, he was coming to your defense. Send me anything you can think of remotely close to physical altercations, any domestic disputes, erratic behavior. I want everything." He days
"What are you trying to do?"
"If we can't have him detained, I want to push for deportation. When I tell you, I have folders as thick as my post it stack, I'm telling the truth." He says. "If you really want him dealt with then send me everything you have."
I just nod my head.
His phone rings and he pushes the button to answer, putting it on speaker.
"Yeah." He answers
"There's a Joe Anoa'i here to see you." A woman says
"Is that him?" He asks me and I nod my head.
"I'll be up there in a minute." he says, and pushes the button.
"I'm gonna go get him. Just sit tight." he gets up and walks out of the office, closing the door behind him.
I just sat there in silence. Only thing I could hear was the air condition kick on. How did I get in this mess? Well I know exactly how I got in this mess but it's crazy to think that he would actually have me arrested for slapping him, when he tried to drown me. I can't believe I'm going through this right now.
I put my head down on the desk trying to piece together my life with Aubrey and how we got to this point. I have to admit, all of the red flags were there, and I ignored them. But I just kept seeing what he could be and what he seemed to want to be so I just let it go. He really got me. He is not who he painted himself to be. I know he wants to be a good person, but I think he's just set in his ways. That's the only way I can describe it because it's so complicated.
*********
Joe's POV
I called the lawyer on my way to the station like I said I would. He is on his way. I was a wreck, not because I was pissed at Drake but because Shawnie was in jail. Real jail. I can't believe that motherfucker put her ass in jail because she slapped him. She should've done worse than that. I would've covered for her.
I raced down the highway to get to the police station, praying no one pulled me over. I should've been following the squad but I had to say something to him. This is his son's mom. He's just so fucking evil and he needs to be dealt with, but we can only do so much because who he is. But like I said, I promise I'm going to handle him and I know just what to do.
I pulled up to the police station and quickly hopped out. I made my way inside and asked for Officer Reed. They called him and said he would be right up. I feel like I was waiting for hours and it probably was just like two minutes but I just can't believe this shit happened. He really had this woman arrested and there was nothing I could do about it. That's the part that is fucking with me. I couldn't get her out of it. I even told the police that I did it but they knew that I didn't. And that bothers me because I'm supposed to protect her and I couldn't.
"What's up man!" Officer Reed says as he approaches me.
"Nothing. Can I see her?"
"Yeah, come on. She's in my office." I followed him to the back.
"Thank you for this. I owe you big time." I say
"It's cool. I think this is a bunch of bullshit and I don't think she should be arrested either. I'm just doing what I can."
We get to his office, but he stops me right before he gets to the door.
"I know you might not wanna hear this, but I'm gonna ask her to call him."
"For what?"
"Because I think she can get him to drop the charges. None of us can. It's obvious you can't do it so if he has a soft spot for her, why not?" He says. "It's the easiest way to get this shit over with. No mugshots, no media, nothing. Just a simple visit to the police station."
"I mean, I guess you're right because I just threatened his life so I don't think anything I say it's gonna make any of this better. I probably made it worse."
"Alright. I just wanted to make sure it was okay with you. Not that she needs permission or anything, I just don't want to cause any friction."
"Nah, it's all good." I say
"I'm gonna give you guys a few minutes, I'll be back." He says then opens his office door.
I walk in and I see her back to me. She was just sitting there. She turned around after a couple of seconds and saw me. I walked over to her, pulled her out of her chair and hugged her tight. She didn't say anything, she just laid her head on my chest.
After a long and comforting hug for the both of us, we finally pulled apart. I brushed her hair out of her face with both of my hands, moving it behind her ears, and I kissed her forehead.
"You okay?" I ask, burying my hands in her hair, gently rubbing her scalp. I know this is relaxing to her.
"No, but yes." She says. "I'm a little scared. I don't know what he's thinking."
"You're going to be fine. I called Mark, he's on his way."
She looks down at the handcuffs around her wrist. "Normally I like being handcuffed, but this is really making me change my mind about it."
I laugh. "You like that?"
"Yeah, I don't think I do anymore." She says
"What a shame." I smile at her. I'm only trying to lighten the mood. I don't want her in here feeling sorry for herself or depressed because he's a fucking idiot. "You still look pretty though."
"Stop. I know I look like shit. You don't have to try to make me feel better."
"You do look pretty to me." I say
"Thank you for trying to make me feel better but you don't have to."
"It's the least I can do." I say
She sat back down at the desk and then took a seat next to her and put her purse in my lap. We sat there for another minute or so talking about the situation. Officer read came in and sat down at his desk.
Shawnie's POV
"Alright. Let's give him a call. I know you're upset with him but what I suggest you do is use your charm and get him to drop these charges." He stands up and walks over to me. He grabs his keys off of his utility belt and unlocks the handcuffs. "If it's okay with you I'm gonna sit here and I'm gonna listen to the conversation. I want you to put it on speakerphone." Officer Reed says
"Okay." I go into my purse and pull my phone out. I look at Joe for a second and he just nods his head at me. He knows I don't want to do this but if this is what I gotta do to get out of this mess, I guess I will suck up for a minute.
I call Aubrey. He literally answers on the first ring. I instantly get annoyed at the sound of his voice.
"How are you able to call me?" He answers
"Because I just am. Aubrey, drop the charges. You know there's plenty of things I could've had you arrested for that were way worse than this."
"I don't know what you're talking about." He says
I look at Joe and he rolls his eyes but he remains quiet.
"Okay. That's fine. If you want to have sudden amnesia, I'm fine with that. I just want you to drop the charges so they can release me."
"Did you use your one phone call to call me?"
He can't be serious right now. He is literally happy that I called him because he thinks this is my phone call. There is something seriously off in his head.
"That's not even a thing—..... Sure." I lied to him. He can think he was my only phone call. It's an ego boost for him.
"You could've called anybody, but you called me. You know, Joe threatened my life." He says, looking for me to say something.
"Aubrey, I don't know anything Joe did." I'm getting more and more irritated by the second. "I am in fucking jail because you put me here. Now, can you please do something about this?"
"You led me on to think we were going to get back together and you lied to me."
"Aubrey... I'm sorry." I say. "I'm sorry for not wanting to hurt your feelings because I didn't think you were capable of processing them properly. You would've taken it as rejection or in a negative way and I didn't want that. So yes, I lead you on because I didn't wanna hurt you."
I am partially lying my ass off. I never wanted to hurt him, that part of it is true, but I'm at the point now I really just don't give a fuck anymore so he can kiss my ass. I don't care that I lead him on. Oh well, he needs to get over it. I'm only doing this for him to drop the charges so I can go the fuck home. I'm not reconciling. I'm not going to talk things over with him. I'm not going to his house. I just want this bitch away from me and out of my life.
"Mami, we had such a good night. I thought we were going to make something of that." He says
I instantly feel uncomfortable, because this was something that happened when I wasn't talking to Joe and he was in Vegas. I don't want him to hear any details about that bad mistake I made.
I look over and Joe and he's just looking down, not even looking at me or anything.
"Aubrey, I just want to know if you can drop the charges so I can go home. I need you right now." I begin to fake cry. "I'm scared and this is disgusting here. How can you want this for me? I thought you loved me?"
This is actually really hurting me right now that I have to suck up to this bitch. I don't want anything to do with him and the fact that he put me in this situation makes me hate him even more.
It was silent for a few seconds, and I knew he was thinking about it. Of course he was. I already know he's going to do it, he wants to get back with me.
"I do love you..." he sighs. "I feel like I made our situation worse...I keep doing shit to make you hate me more than you already do. I'm sorry. I'll drop the charges."
"Thank you."
"I'll have Billy get on the phone with them right now. And when you get out, come straight here." He says
"Okay." I say. I'm NOT going over to his house ever again in my life.
I don't say anything else, I just end the call.
"Alright, cool. So now we wait." Officer Reed says
I looked over and Joe and he was still staring down at his lap. I hope that conversation didn't make him feel any type of way. It was all bullshit.
I touched his arm and he looked over at me. "I hate having to do that. You know how much I don't wanna deal with him and I'm sorry you had to hear that."
"That was before you came to Vegas. I wasn't here." He says. "It's okay." He smiles.
Officer Reed's phone rings, and he answers. They say that my lawyer is here and he tells them to send him back to his office.
"It's a good thing you don't need him now." He gets up and opens his door. Mark walks in.
"Never thought I'd see you here." Mark says
"Me either, but this is what you have to deal with when you have a psychopath as an ex husband." I say
"I'm happy I didn't marry him." He laughs at his own joke.
"I talk to him and—."
"Oh, I already know. I've already spoken with his lawyer and you can walk out right now."
"How?"
"You were never processed." He says. " After Joe called me, I got on the phone with his lawyer and we were discussing the situation. Drake called him on the other line and told me the news while I was in the parking lot so you're free to go."
"Thank you." I say, then I turned to Officer Reed. "Thank you so much for everything."
"It's no problem." He grabbed one of his business cards off of his desk and handed it to me. "Make sure you get that information over to me and I will be in touch."
"I will." I say
Before we walked out of the door, Mark stopped us and told us that there were a few cameras outside. I don't even know how they even got this information. This is absolutely ridiculous. How do they even know? I don't know why I'm asking, they know every damn thing.
"I don't want these pictures anywhere. I need to cover my face." I say looking at Joe. "Do you have an extra jacket or anything?"
"I don't." He says and I look at Mark.
"Me either." He says.
I look back at Joe. He starts looking around as if he's thinking.
"You know what...." He takes off his shirt. "Here."
"No. You can't leave without a shirt."
"Do you have another idea?" He asks
"This is going to be everywhere. You don't want those problems."
He throws the shirt over my head. "Come on."
We walked to the car with the escort of two officers. The paps were standing on the sidewalk away from the building so they wouldn't get in trouble and the police tried to block shots of me as best as they could. Only thing I could do was bury my face into Joe's chest as he held the shirt over my head.
************
We got home and Mercedes was sitting on the stairs outside. She ran over to me as I got out of the car and hugged me. I was surprised.
"I called you know who and he's on his way here to handle him. So you need to be prepared." She says
"Mercedes, call Lucky right and tell him to stand down." I say, firmly.
"No—you can't let him get away with this. We have to do something." She says, looking at me confused.
"Mercedes, please. Just leave it alone. I'm fine." I say
"Why do you want to protect this motherfucker so badly? He put you in jail, Shawnie. JAIL. You ain't built for that shit. He knows that." She says. "Why are you gonna let him do something like this to you and you don't do anything about it? You don't let ME do anything about it?"
"No. We're not gonna do anything." I say calmly. "I would like to just get in the house, cleanse my body and get into bed. I have the media on my ass and I just don't want to fucking deal with anything right now. So please, just chill out. Tell Lucky it was a false alarm or some shit. I don't care, but I don't want him here. I want him far away from me. This is still my son's father we're talking about. Don't let Lucky anywhere near us. Do you understand?"
"Fine...." She says. "But I'm happy you're okay."
"Yeah....." I walked into the house.
What did you think about this chapter??
