Shoes
Your anger had risen within you almost instantly as Jake's face had sunk into your mind and you had marched up to him and spoken to him in a way that left him stunned.
"What the heck are you doing here? Ain't no way you and I were ever a thing! Oh, my mind is running laps right now! Just what even!"
"Excuse me?..." He replied and tried to comprehend the words you had used. "I am afraid I didn't quite catch the words you used to address me, my lady. "
"What thing were you and him?" Hoseok added in utter confusion as he appeared by your side, making you leave a deep exhale of frustration.
"I want to k-word him right now yet I have to deal with vocabulary. Are you serious?" You looked towards the sky in frustration and Jake and Hoseok looked at each other, both wondering what 'k-word him' means.
"My lady, have you been studying some foreign dialect? I am afraid I am not familiar with it. However for you, I shall learn. " Jake replied and Hoseok just shrugged his shoulders in surrender for he couldn't figure it out and you just hung your head in defeat.
"Let's just go buy those clothes and leave already" You changed the subject and started walking ahead entering a shop that was nearby and the two followed along, perplexed over your unusual behaviour.
"I am looking for a pair of shoes please." You spoke to the shopkeeper and Hoseok added in as he quickly rushed by your side.
"A fine pair if you must. Your best quality. "
"Don't worry I can afford it I promise. There's no need for your to feel uncomfortable. I won't embarrass you in front of your fiance." He reassured you in a whispering tone as he had assumed that your mood was ruined because you considered Jake's presence there dangerous.
He was from a wealthy family and you were just an orphan that had no wealth in her name. So maybe -Hoseok had guessed- that you just didn't want him to see you as inferior.
You just smiled at him despite the fact that he was way off and walked towards Jake who was standing near the door, with a polite smile on his face.
"Look here you...I don't know what's going on but there's no way you have feelings for me" You straight out told him in a lower tone just to make sure none would hear you and he replied despite the fact that he appeared still confused over your behaviour.
"Of course not. You agreed to be my wife and I would make sure to financial contribute to maintain the orphanage. "
"Now it makes sense...but still why would you want to marry me. What's your benefit on the issue?" You raised an eyebrow at him, full of suspicions.
"My lady, we have discussed this already. Shall I worry? Have you withstood any head injury?" Jake reached his hand to touch your head in worry but you quickly slapped his hand away, shocking him.
"Doesn't matter! Just respond to what I am asking already!" You demanded as you stared him down and he looked slightly scared as he replied.
"You are the only one that accepted my hand in marriage. Because of my decease, I have been unable to wed despite my good qualifications. " You took a moment to process his words then just turned around and started looking for a mirror, which you found in a corner of the shop.
"How could I be so stupid?" You spoke to your reflection in a low whisper full of agitation for you were realizing what big mistake you had made in your past life.
You accepted to marry someone you didn't love for the sake of securing the well-being of the orphanage and sacrificing your happiness and your feelings for Hoseok simply because you thought of them to have been one-sided, to begin with.
And he had thought the same for his, considering your choice as one made out of love. And later it had become the reason he never dared to confess his own feelings to you. Because he would never want to inconvenience you with his love.
" We were both stupid! Oh my God! If I didn't have eyes on me right now, I would be hitting my head against a wall" you murmured as you forced yourself to turn around and walk over to Hoseok who seemed to have gathered quite some boxes already. Full of shoes that were waiting for you to try them.
He offered you a hand and you grumpily took it before taking a seat on a nice-looking stool, then Hoseok kneeled before you and removed the shoe you were wearing. He lifted his head to meet your eyes as he picked one of the new shoes that he had gathered around, seeking approval however you were just caught up in his gaze, feeling frustrated and annoyed over the fact that you both lost your chance to love, because of your bad choices.
No wonder she felt the regret of a lifetime after and was crying like that at his grave...this is certainly regretful.
You thought as you tore your eyes from his and nodded at him to proceed, and he gently placed a new shoe on your foot, before he smiled and stepped a bit back to admire how it looked on you.
"It feels like you have roses on your feet. It's a delightful image." He commented making you briefly throw your gaze to notice the shoes, for you had not been paying any attention to them at all.
They were a design you definitely were not used to but the embodiment on the sure was seemingly pretty and delicate.
"I would prefer you buy these pair, my lady. They are my favourite colour." Jake had felt the need to provide you with his opinion as he approached you and squatted down to take off the shoe Hoseok had helped you wear and place his choice instead.
An action that he finished quickly and once he returned to his upright posture he handed Hoseok's choice back to him in a somehow rude way.
"Ah, yes, Y/N, that one surely looks much better. You should choose what will make your future husband delighted." He forced himself to agree as he held the shoe he had chosen near his chest and looked over you with a fond smile.
A smile that started to waver as Jake went on speaking about what a happy day your wedding day would be and how joyfully you will look when you unite your life with him.
It was paining him and you couldn't help but want to punch Jake in the face, right at that very moment but as you stormed up from your seat, everything around you suddenly went dark and you found yourself in the normal clothes you had before, floating among nothing.
"Don't be a fool twice...cherish your time for it is no longer in your favor." The voice of the Goddess echoed around right before you started screaming because you started falling down into the darkness, further and further within, until you opened your eyes, back in some clothes you were unfamiliar with.
You looked around you in distress, taking in your new surroundings and realizing that you were still in that past life, for you found yourself standing some feet away from that tree, Hoseok was buried.
Your heart was beating fast at the sight, thinking that you had skipped time once again and you had missed everything with him, but as you rushed to the other side of the tree, where you had once found yourself crying and sobbing in despair, you found Hoseok's figure instead, enjoying the breeze and looking over at the town melancholically.
The sound of your footsteps made him look past his shoulder and notice you, his eyes growing wide from surprise briefly before he flashed you a gentle smile and reached out his hand for you to join him.
You reluctantly approached and took hold of his hand, hiding your trembling heart as you stared at the ground. Your eyes were getting filled with tears for this place for you had no other memory but the one of your mourning for him and it was hard to shake that image from your mind while standing there, with him innocent and ignorant of the future you were aware of.
"In two days from now, I will have to walk you down the altar and entrust you to another man." He uttered in a way that you could distinguish the pain in the tone of his voice.
Can I get more cruel? Just why did I have to ask him to walk me down the altar? Gosh, someone kill me already.
You complained in your head while you took a deep breath and gathered the courage to turn and face him.
"Could you promise me something, my dear?" Hoseok reached his hand out and tremblingly allowed it to rest atop your head, knowing within him that most likely with would be the last time, he could be so free with you.
"You can ask me anything you want." You replied, already looking at him with guilt and sympathy.
"No matter how far away life gets you from me...no matter how different we grow to be...promise me that you will never forget, that I will be always someone you can run to. I will always be someone you can lean on, so bring all your tears to me. I promise you in exchange to transform them all, into beautiful smiles." His eyes were shining as he spoke, glassy over the tears he was making into smiles at that very moment as he showed before you a happy expression that made you feel like someone was ripping your heart at that moment.
It was painful to the point that you just jumped in his arms and engulfed him in a tight embrace, wanting to never let him go, as tears started streaming down your face, cursing within your head over the realisation that this moment was fading right before your eyes, just like your vision was.
"No...no...don't end it yet...I haven't told him what he means to me..." You murmured with a broken voice just as he along with everything else, slipped right through your hold and you returned to that darkness that now had your sobs echoing around.
"Please let me go back! I have to go back!" You protested to the Goddess but all you took as a reply was another pull into the darkness that this time felt like it was leading you forward, to a very bright-looking light.
