Under the Effect Part 2
Author's note: Hey guys! I don't know when I'll be able to get the next part of this story out. I'll be getting surgery and will probably be too tired to write for the next little while, but enjoy this!
Cleo's POV:
The tall, white building stood ahead of us, " Seems normal enough." I commented as I lifted up the welcome matt and pulled out a master key that Ren had hidden for access anytime he forgot his own key.
It happened a lot.
Stress looked at the key, " At least he didn't forget his keys this time around." she shrugged with a small laugh to try and calm her nerves. I put my hand on her shoulder, " They should be okay Stress. The two of them are smart and resourceful." the two of us sighed loudly.
After everything said, I honestly didn't feel all too better myself. I know that Doc and Ren are smart. The two of them can take down an army if they wanted to.
The thing was that if anything truly bad happened to either of them they would call for help. The two knew their own limitations.
What could've happened to them? There wasn't any dangers in the Stock Exchange building. Unless you count losing all your money to stocks and rigged deals as a danger. The only people to fall victim to that were Jevin and X, but Jevin is one of the richest people on here. Which meant that that didn't matter.
I cracked the door open to the brightly lit building. The door into the main part of the building where the office and vault are were open.
Stress took out her bow, and I took out my sword, " Keep an eye out for anything suspicious, and let's stick together." I told her as she nodded.
" That's good, I would rather not lose you too." she looked up at me with a scared look in her eyes.
We stealthily walked towards the office of the two hybrids. The only sound I could hear currently was the almost silent footsteps of Stress and I. I led the way taking note of anything that could be misplaced, but I didn't see anything stolen, broken, or misplaced.
I stopped as a sudden crash came from the office, " Come on!" I sharply whispered as my eyes widened. The two of us quickened our pace until we reached the office.
A mirroring of barking and hissing came from inside the room, " Well, Ren is most definitely in there." Stress whispered as I nodded. Only Ren can do a realistic dog bark. This is due to how the server gave him dog ears and a tail due to what his name was. The only problem was that Ren would only bark when startled or angry though, so I never personally heard it until now.
Stress surprisingly led the way into the room. I quickly followed behind, " Stress, wait!" I called out as I sped up to catch up with her.
The office was is disarray. The plant was knocked down, papers were scattered everywhere, and the desk and chair was haphazardly knocked over.
Ren's barking had turned into happy panting that came from behind the overturned desk. I looked at desk, " You take the left, and I take the right?" I mouthed as she nodded with a puzzled look.
I started to lower myself to the ground as I made my way to the right side of the desk. Stress did the same; her hand reaching for an arrow in her quiver.
I held my sword up and braced myself for the sudden shock that I was about to be met with. Stress looked at me from her position.
" On my go." I mouthed as I put my hand on the top of the desk.
" One."
" Two."
"Three."
The both of us bounced up and turned the corner, " Wait.... Wait what?" I cocked my head to the side.
Ren was laying on top of a Doc, who had his red eye shut off, that was starting to fall asleep.
" Ren?" Stress questioned, but the only answer Ren gave her was his ears perking up at the sound of his name. Ren was still panting as he crawled around on Doc and started to groom his head. Doc just gave him a small hiss in response but other than that he gave no protest.
I took a step forward, " Rendog can you speak?" I asked as Ren looked towards me and cocked his head to the side.
" Doc can you speak to us at least?" I gave him a defeated look but still no answer. I took another step forward causing Ren's ears to go down, and he let out a growl towards me. Ren protectively put his head on top of Doc's.
Stress and I looked at each other, " So, Ren's being a guard dog, and Doc just isn't talking." I summarized as Stress nodded. The two of us backed away leaving Ren to resume his grooming much to Doc's annoyance.
" We need to find something that can tell us what happened to them." Stress sighed as she put her bow away. I did the same with my sword. The only thing that could provide us a minor hint was the cameras that Ren had installed in case another ' Grian Situation ' happened, and he can put a stop to it before it got way out of hand.
I walked over to the unturned desk in the corner, Ren's security desk, to be more precise. I typed in some numbers and letters as the big, green confirmed sign popped up.
" How did you guess that so easily?" Stress asked as I shrugged, " Ren talks about it a lot." I laughed as Stress shook her head with a small laugh. I clicked on the security camera footage and pressed the play button.
Doc and Ren were sitting in the room. Ren on the ground in front of the table, and Doc was in his giant chair. The two were arguing about what was better: building or destroying. I personally believe that building was better, but that argument wasn't the main issue at hand.
The argument continued until Ren and Doc stood up. Doc started to hold the side of his head in pain as his eye shut off. Ren took a leap backwards as Doc collapsed causing the table to fall over and papers to spill everywhere.
Ren's ears perked up, " Doc? Doc can you hear me?" he questioned as his ears went down, and he grabbed at his stomach in pain. He took a shaky step forward. Doc got up after Ren's second plead, but he was on all fours. Doc hissed at Ren causing Ren to take another step back.
" Are you okay?" Ren's voice started to weaken as he fell to one knee. The quills on Doc's normal arm stood up as he continued to hiss.
" Doc please..."
Ren sounded more desperate as Doc twitched briefly and the quills lowered. Some more time passed as Ren collapsed to the floor. Doc perked up slightly and walked over to Ren. He clawed at Ren causing the other hybrid to perk up. Ren barked at Doc as his eyes turned a dull brown. The sudden noise from Ren caused Doc to jump back and knock over the plant. The video soon ended.
I looked at Stress, " That explains it." I sighed as she nodded. The two of us looked back at the animal-minded hermits. We had to go find Joe next and hopefully he was doing better than these two.
