It was not difficult to follow Park Jimin. Not at all.
Despite being a demon with extraordinary senses, exquisite powers, and a knack for winning battles, Jimin did not notice the things following him south to the Oak Castle.
Perhaps it was because Lucio chattered excitedly in his ear about playing with his sister Rose. Or it could have been that the white-haired male was too invested in his constant thoughts about killing his father and escaping the man once and for all.
As he mounted the Oak Castle walls with Lucio on his back, he didn't think twice to check for anyone following him. No mortal was quick enough to catch him. No one could see past his vision vexes.
Nobody could hurt him if they didn't know his weakness.
Jimin felt obliged to believe this. If weakness lay heavy in the mind, he thought, there was no hope of pushing past it to succeed. He couldn't afford to dwell on negative thoughts anyway, especially since death had grasped him once before.
One of his marked hands clutched onto the windowsill as he opened the atypical window entrance to the bedroom. Rose's face lit up as she heard the pair enter and rush forward.
"Jimin!"
Rose ran ahead, dropping her pen on the ground as the half-blood lifted the tiny girl into his arms.
"How are you baby? Are you having fun coloring?"
Nodding vigorously and pointing at her artwork, Rose smiled against Jimin's neck. Lucio, on the other hand, noticed that the attention of his father was focused on somebody else. He became irked, finding preferable interest in the pen that had fallen on the ground.
"I have your pen, Rose! Hah hah!"
Instantly, Rose's face shifted to an angry set chin. Her cheeks puffed and she wiggled out of Jimin's grasp, determined to get her prized item back. She ripped the object out of Lucio's hands and ran quickly to the other side of the room.
Jimin laughed.
"You teach your brother, Rose. He can't just take stuff that's not his."
The tiny silver-haired girl gave him a quick look of confusion as her legs carried her away from the red-head. "Brother? Lucio is not my brother!"
"Yes I am! Daddy told me!" Lucio raced after the girl, grabby hands swinging around the air for the pen. "Rose, you are my sister!"
Rose looked at Jimin to check if this was true, and Jimin nodded at her.
"You two are twins. I don't think Taehyung or Jungkook told you because they wanted to protect you...but now you know. Lucio and you...are brother and sister."
The girl swerved as Lucio bumped into her arm. He momentarily grasped the pen before Rose ripped it out of his hand, sticking her tongue out at him.
"I don't want to be his sister!"
His kids were definitely feisty ones, although he suspected that the trait came from Mai's fiery attitude. From what Jimin could tell though, Lucio and Rose displayed very different personalities that both reminded him of Taehyung as an adult.
Jimin snickered at the thought.
"Rose! Give it back! Daddy says that brothers and sisters share!"
As he lovingly watched his kids trail after one another, the door opened. He expected Jungkook and Taehyung to still be mourning and in bad spirits, and he wasn't wrong. Taehyung's eyes were puffy and the ravenette appeared solemn as they made eye contact.
"Nice to see you both again."
The half-blood tried to be cordial despite the stress of the situation. Jungkook seemed to be lost in thought while Taehyung's expression was unreadable.
Just as the half-blood was about to ask if now was a bad time to visit, the blonde shifted his weight to the side. Jimin watched curiously as Taehyung began to approach him, eyebrows drawn.
"Yes. Nice to see you too, Jiminie."
Heart bursting to pieces at the nickname he hadn't heard out of Taehyung in years, the half-blood was even more taken aback when the blonde wrapped careful arms around his body.
A small gasp left Jungkook's mouth. The kids, however, weren't paying attention to their fathers. They continued to rush about and ended up making their way into the connecting bathroom. Only murmurs could be heard from in there...Jimin figured that they had stopped fighting and were finally getting along.
Taehyung's chin sat heavily on his shoulder and the half-blood brought his arms up to rest on Taehyung's lower back. Over the blonde's layered robe, the Oak Prince stared at him. He blinked a few times before motioning to Jimin that Taehyung had found out the truth.
"I'm sorry, Jimin." Taehyung's voice was tear-crusted, yet it was strong. It reminded Jimin of the old Laurel Prince when he took soldiers into war. "Please forgive me for being an asshole. I won't treat you like shit anymore."
Smiling brightly, red eyes crinkled at Taehyung when they pulled away. They gazed into each other's eyes for a few seconds.
Jimin's hands fumbled with Taehyung's own, forcing him to gaze down. The light scarring on Taehyung's palms was still there from the duel they had. The blonde closed his eyes and smiled as the half-blood pointed them out, a lasting visual memory of their past together.
"I forgive you, Tae. You're kinda impossible not to forgive."
The blonde blushed, looking to Jungkook embarrassedly for support. The Oak Prince gave him a shining smile and nodded in approval. Finally, after ages of bad feelings, the room felt cleared of nervous energy.
"Thank you. I don't deserve it, but thank you."
Taehyung feebly mumbled as he shed the layer of acting right there in front of him. Cheeks still lightly tinted red, Taehyung's surprise registered a second time when Jimin embraced him again.
"God. Are we finally on good terms now? All of us? Is this some miracle? We won't get mad at each other or separated for a while?"
The half-blood joked as the sounds of Rose and Lucio chattering in the bathroom filtered into the room. Taehyung's hands ran up and down Jimin's sweater vest in contentment. Finally, the half-blood released him from the hug.
Jungkook walked up to the wardrobe and knocked on it a few times.
"Knock on wood for good measure!"
As his hand left the wooden surface, though, Jimin frowned. Taehyung tilted his head in concern.
"Hmmm? What is it...?"
Turning to Jungkook, the half-blood realized that the ravenette heard it too. The continued knocking. The Oak Prince had very clearly stopped knocking on the surface, yet the noise continued.
"That has to be Rose and Lucio, right? I'll go check..."
A bit disturbed, the ravenette walked over and disappeared inside the bathroom where Rose and Lucio were playing. He peeked his head out, glancing around the room in confusion.
"Nope, not them...where is that sound com-"
The window exploded in the exact moment Jungkook saw the strange, mottled faces through the glass. He shrieked as Jimin tackled the blonde to the floor, protecting him from the flying shards as they burst out into the room.
"JUNGKOOK! GET THE KIDS OUT!"
Jimin's frantic cry left the Oak Prince hurrying to pick up a startled Rose and Lucio. Both kids were wide-eyed and asking a thousand questions. Jungkook, with both of them in his arms, rushed them out of the bedroom and down the hall as the creatures made their way into the room.
"You fucking bastards!"
The half-blood easily picked up Taehyung and hustled him to the door. Before motioning for the wide-eyed blonde to exit, he gave him specific instructions.
"You need to get fire, somehow, to kill these things. I'll lead them out into the courtyard and try to minimize the damage they cause. If you have torches-"
"Look out!"
One of the creatures lunged at Jimin, who kicked the thing once in the stomach. Flying across the room, the zombie woman without an arm groaned as she hit the wall. The wall cracked as her body became embedded half into it. The four others in the room were already moving on him.
Taehyung stood there a little longer, wanting to help the demon fight, although he knew he could do nothing. His feet became stuck as he debated whether or not he should stay with the demon and fight. Five on one in any battle was tough, especially since fire was the only way to kill them.
"GO TAEHYUNG! I can handle them!"
Panic sunk in to the blonde as one of them lunged towards him, gripping onto his silken shirt. He yelled out and pulled away from the thing, rushing out of the room.
"Fire fire fire fire fire-"
He repeated to himself as he hurried to find servants who would help him.
Meanwhile in the royal bedroom, Jimin ripped his sweater vest off and rolled up his sleeves. If those things were after him, then they would follow if he left the room, right?
Father...what are you thinking...
Another undead man with a slit throat rushed him. A colorless hand wrapped around the demon's ankle and his red-eyes flamed with anger. Twisting his leg to the side with unmatched force, the demon reveled in the crack resonating down the thing's arm.
A shattering sound came from his left. The demon saw an older zombie breaking a family portrait done of the Oak Family.
And oh, did it make his blood boil.
The fourth thing that approached him felt the high end of his wrath. Jimin grabbed it's throat and threw it out the window easily. One threw a punch his way in response, which he dodged and used to his advantage.
"Fuckers. I should have beheaded you all the first time I killed you."
Two of them were lined up facing away from him. Jimin animalistically tore a bed post from the king sized bed and stabbed it through both of the undead soldiers, connecting their sorry bodies together. He then kicked their knees out from under them and smashed a boot into each of their heads, right in the face.
One of the zombies scratched out randomly, moaning as Jimin's boot came down on it's face. Blinded by a powerful kick to the eyeball, it blindly tried pulling the bed post out of its torso.
Before it could try, however, the white-haired male picked up the pole carrying the two undead on it like a giant skewer and walked over to the window.
Behind him, the other two undead scampered towards him, their foul-smelling bodies tainting Jimin's mind with death. He flung the two on the bed post out of the window and turned to face the remaining zombies.
One latched onto his throat, which caused him to panic. Naturally, he pushed the figure off of him and stepped back. The other reached for the same area which made him doubly freak out.
Why were they aiming for his throat? Why...
Was his father that much of an asshole? He already tested them out in the crypt. He was just being asinine, sending them out to chase him prematurely. His father would definitely ask about it when he returned.
"Did it work? Did they follow you consistently? Did the distance affect their ability to follow my commands?"
Jimin growled at the thought. His father didn't even care that Lucio might get hurt in the process. All that selfish bastard cared about was using him.
A tiny voice popped in the back of Jimin's head, as it always did when he thought about his father.
How did he bring you back then? How, if he did not love you, did he give you life as a demon?
No...Jimin didn't want to think about it. His father could not love him, and yet-
"UUUUAAAAAGGGHHH!"
A zombie threw itself at him, pushing him backwards. Normally, he would regain his balance in a second. But he was distracted, and the glass shards spilled across the ground did not help his foot when it stepped behind him.
"Shit!"
Red eyes widened as his foot slipped, propelling him backward towards the open window. The creatures saw this weakness and exploited it.
The half-blood raged as they leaped on him.
"You know what?! C'mon! Let's get SOME FUCKING FRESH AIR THEN!"
Throwing his body back and tucking, Jimin fell from the window with the remaining two undead people connected at his arms. As their bodies plummeted towards the earth, he heard a zombie chuckle.
The sound was like grinding stone on a steel post. With newfound energy from his inflamed spirit, Jimin quickly twisted. Both zombies were launched with deadly speed as the half-blood spun horizontally in a tuck. Before the ground came upon him, the half-blood prepared to land on all fours.
Rolling out of his rough landing, Jimin gazed around maniacally to find the remaining fuckers that were pestering the Oak Castle. In the distance, he saw the two with the bed post still in them in the middle of the courtyard. Passing servants paid the groaning duo no attention. His father must have placed some sort of temporary vex on the undead to keep them out of the limelight.
After all, this was just a test.
Looking up, he laughed darkly when he saw one of the undead splattered against the side of the Oak Castle from when he'd shot them off of himself. Its guts painted the stone wall like some grotesque fresco. There was no way that the bloody pulp on the side of the wall could come and get him.
In other words...fire wasn't the only option to get rid of them...
The thought gave Jimin more hope.
Stalking to the center of the courtyard unnoticed, he spotted the last two zombies milling about in search of him.
"Over here, bitches!"
Instantly, the zombies craned their necks towards him. Their yellowish, unfocused eyes and stumbling bodies gave Jimin a rush of adrenaline. They would soon be pulped! Stewed! Destroyed with-
"Jimin! Hey!"
The blonde's voice echoed in the air. A few servants turned, confused.
"I have the fire!"
The demon's line of thought was interrupted by Taehyung, who came running with two torches in his hands from the side entrance of the castle. His cheeks were flushed with stress, clothes flowing as he ran quickly down the path towards the demon.
"WWWuuugggHHH?!"
The zombies watched the white-haired man focus on the blonde one with interest. Something clicked in their instincts.
"Taehyung, great. Hand them here!"
The blonde complied, watching the zombies worriedly as they stumbled towards him. He turned back towards the demon and gasped when he handed the torches over.
"U-um...J-Jimin..."
"Hang on."
The half-blood leaped ten meters in the air with such ferocity that the ground shook. The blonde stumbled backward and landed on his butt on the stone path.
With the fire in his hands, Jimin's body tore through the air magnificently, right at the two targets of interest. Each torch found its way into the zombies' faces as he came down forcefully. Smashing onto their backs and skidding across the ground, the zombies whined a high pitched wail as their faces were pushed inward. Flames ate up the skin on their skulls, singeing their hair and revealing the bone underneath.
Taehyung cringed at the foul scent, skittering to his feet. As Jimin focused on killing the two main zombies, the ones stuck in the bed post wiggled out of their metal captor.
And they headed not for Jimin, but for the person he was associating with.
Taehyung.
"Uh, Jimin? Those fuckers got out of that pole! UH-"
Taking off, the blonde darted across the courtyard as the zombies were in pursuit of him. Jimin instantly whipped around, leaving the ashy mess aside as he saw Taehyung being threatened.
"Tae!"
Jimin grabbed the back of the torch handle and flung it at one of the zombies chasing him, knocking the creature to the ground. He rushed forward to subdue the other zombie who carried the bed post like a club.
"Fuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuck! Go awaaaayyyy!"
Taehyung sprinted towards the trees in the distance while screaming at the zombie. If the thing would die at sword point Taehyung would try to kill it, but since he knew he didn't have a chance he resorted to running.
Jimin's eyes darkened even more as he saw the creature threatening Taehyung. It was only a matter of seconds before he caught up to the thing with the torch, forcing the flaming object into it's back.
The zombie cried out, releasing the pole from his grasp.
And that's when Jimin knew he made a mistake.
The bed post flew forward, hitting the backs of the blonde's legs and tripping him up. Taehyung stumbled before crashing to the ground on his side. His eyes widened as he quickly turned onto his back. He rushed to stand up and run again.
But something prevented him.
While Jimin wrestled with the torch zombie in his grasp, the other one snuck up from behind him, heading straight for Taehyung. This flicker of movement registered in his line of sight and Jimin threw the zombie he was holding off to the side.
His marked arms extended forward to grab the undead man before he could attack the blonde. Right as his hands felt the zombie's back clear as day, the undead man stumbled on the same pole that Taehyung had fallen on.
And fell forward.
A scream rang out that made Jimin's heart drop.
The zombie had fallen directly next to the blonde, face down. The half-blood quickly lifted the undead man up and kicked him with all of his strength. The guy flew through the air, landing about 100 meters away.
"J-Jimin?"
Taehyung's voice came out as a whisper. The half-blood kneeled down, red eyes scanning over the blonde to see if he was hurt.
"What happened...?"
Taehyung sounded very confused, which wasn't like him. In fact, the tone of voice that he used was one Jimin had never heard from him before.
The white-haired male held Taehyung's hand and focused his energy in to find out what the issue was with the blonde. He searched for pain signals, for nerve endings that seemed irritated...
And found the source.
What he felt made the air rush out of his lungs.
Immediately his hands went to remove the outer layer of the blonde's robe, fingers tearing the material off of the man as if it was made of tissues.
Underneath...
A growing red splotch on Taehyung's chest. A glass shard that the zombie had apparently been holding on to was now embedded deep within the blonde's ribs.
Jimin shrieked. He had to heal Taehyung before it was too-
"Did I make a m-mistake?"
Taehyung was in shock, eyelids wavering as the blood poured out of him. Jimin was frantic, mouth open in disbelief at the sight of the Laurel Prince dying before him. He had seen it before, when the blonde was tortured almost to death by Jihoon and now...
"JIMIN?! WHAT'S WRONG!?"
Jungkook's voice yelled from across the field in Jimin's ears. The Oak Prince's panicked tone of voice didn't help the situation one bit. As Jungkook ran down the field to his fallen husband, Jimin placed a hand on the blonde's stomach and focused hard. He needed to at least comfort the blonde a little before completely removing the shard of glass.
Just the pain alone might kill Taehyung.
"No, Taehyung." The demon forced himself to mouth the words slowly for the dizzy blonde. He hoped the other made sense of the words. "You didn't make a mistake...now, go to sleep for me all right?"
The blonde didn't respond, and Jimin wasn't even sure he understood. However, Taehyung's eyes slowly closed and his chest rose and fell in steady increments. Jimin sighed in relief.
Footsteps quickly approaching him gave him anxiety. Jungkook was definitely going to panic, so Jimin hurried to heal the blonde before his situation became serious. He didn't even turn when Jungkook was right next to him.
Or at least, he thought it was Jungkook.
A sudden sharp pain at the bottom of his neck made him cry out and he turned to see the glass shard zombie laughing.
LAUGHING.
At Taehyung on the ground...at Jimin with a glass shard in his neck...at Jungkook in the distance attacking a zombie that grabbed at him with mottled arms.
And it was laughing.
Father...
Suddenly, Park Jimin was obsolete.
On that field in that moment-
Was a vengeful and terribly dangerous demon.
