Fresh green grass getting rolled over by the black and white soccer ball. The usual sight for boys from Lakeview high school playing their favorite sport that guarantees a female audience. One in particular that always got gray's attention. The girl with the long black hair tied in a bun and creative outfits, as if school was nothing but an excuse for a runway. She would turn up one day with paint splatter jeans and a white top, and the other with a dress that left little to imagine. He would always find himself somehow looking at her, even from the corner of his eyes. He could swear he was officially losing his mind over her. This wasn't natural for him, so it came to be a surprise when he heard her say "Oliver makes the best shots." He could instantly feel his blood boil at the mention of his name. Oliver.. What could Oliver do that Gray couldn't? Make good shots apparently.

He decided to show good ol' Oliver a piece of his mind. He was going to rip him a new one if he had to. Upon seeing the familiar head of blonde hair and sly smirk, he felt his anger reach a boiling point. That smirk. He really thought he was something. He was here to bring Oliver back down to the ground. "Hey Ollie!" he called out to the boy nonchalantly before kicking the ball on the grass, hurtling it towards Oliver at full force. The impact of the ball hitting the blonde square in the face made the whole field cringe as if they could all collectively feel his pain. "What the f-" was all that was heard moments before the disaster struck. Gray was hurrying over to Oliver with a false sense of emergency. "Sorry man, didn't see that you were so close" he said and held his hand out to help the blonde boy up. The boy naturally declined and rubbed his bloody nose in anger. "Stay away from me, man" he spat at Gray with venom lacing his words. Gray just backed up in a defensive manner, hands up beside his head, as if showing that he meant no harm to him, but inside, he could feel that anger slowly dissipate. How does it feel now?

gray was born to madeline and junto bird on the 15th of february. he identifies as a male and is bisexual. his parents were rich insurance agents in new zealand, so he had a rather easy and comfortable childhood apart from their expectations keeping him stressed. he has a younger brother named lucas bird. gray speaks english, mandarin and spanish.

◎𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞

gray is six feet two inches tall. he has broad shoulders and strong arms due to his days lifting as a builder in maze x before becoming a scientist. he has warm ivory skin, brown combed over hair and dark brown eyes. he has a few scattered freckles across his nose and an upper cheek dimple on the right cheek. he has an authoritative voice. he has no tattoos apart from the wckd tattoo.

◎𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲

gray is sensitive, and seems unassuming however, he knows he is well-educated and very attractive and uses this to his advantage. he can come off as very cold and very blunt to his fellow peers. he tends to get jealous very easily. he particularly expresses his jealousy towards his younger brother because lucas has special abilities while he doesn't. he thinks this makes him a useless subject.

gray is smart, especially since he was a mathematics olympiad (gold medalist) for three years straight before the apocalypse. he constantly met his parents expectations and exceeded them. He also excelled at extra-curricular activities like archery, drama and soccer. he was the perfect all-rounder. however, he has a bad temper. he is also an overachiever to the point of detriment. he gets jealous when people other than him succeed and cannot compliment them.

 ◎𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞𝐬

gray likes to design the mazes and the challenges for the subjects alongside wckd. he also likes the innovations they come up with and enjoys spending time in the r&d department although he is a scientist for wckd. gray dislikes rats, despite needing them for experiments with wckd, this often hinders his capabilities at times. he also hates alcohol, due to a terrible attempt of underage drinking pre-apocalypse.

gray is not immune. his name was kept the same in wckd because he became a scientist under them. because he had the dormant gene however, he had to be put in maze x. but since he did not have any abilities, they pulled him out as the experiment concluded. his appellation is 'the weak' because the gladers thought that he was weak upon his entry to the glade, with how scared he got. he eventually adapted to the lifestyle, but the appellation stuck because of his extremely whiny nature when things don't go his way.

◎𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬

gray does not have any particular special abilities, but is very brilliant and clever. he also is very cunning, especially when he uses his acting abilities when he took drama classes when younger. his need to prove himself also ensures that he excels at everything he does, making him a force to be reckoned with. he is also particularly good at reading expressions and body language, almost predicting their actions.

gray was born to kiwi parents. his father used to be in the army for a while before retiring and instead finding work as an insurance agent. he met his wife there and they eventually got married, settling in new zealand after the marriage. his brother lucas was born after him and since gray was the first son, the expectations were high for him. gray was a regular topper, winning gold at a math olympiad for three years and stayed the top until the news of the apocalypse. which caused him to 'lose' faith that all his studying would lead him anywhere, as the world was ending.

the kids were eventually taken by WCKD for experiments, and since it was found out that the kids had the infamous mutating gene, they were put through maze x, where he found out that he didn't have any abilities, unlike his young brother. gray, despite being a subject of all of wckds experiments, stayed loyal to them and decided to become a scientist for them after his first maze trial. he was happy that all of his years studying, paid off at WCKD, where they had plans to save the world. he felt like he finally had a sense of purpose in life, for good. he was also jealous of his younger brother for a while, because he had special abilities and that helped wckd's studies. he wanted to be more useful, so he became a epidemiologist there and helped them find a cure.
