Lucas sat on the edge of the bed and looked up timidly at his brother. His bleached blonde hair contrasted his brother's natural dark brown hair. "Huh?"  Gray replied with a small smirk, finding the sudden confession to be quite confusing. He rolled his shoulder a bit under his tank top, quite a bit tired from all the physical exams. "Yeah... I don't know if you noticed, but they had expectations from you and actually cared about what you said and thought. You were actually useful, still are, being a scientist here and all," he continued his rant but a fair bit of skepticism seemed to leak when he said that his brother was a scientist here, like he was still trying to figure out for himself if what they- WCKD was doing really was good, with the many unethical experiments on kids like this.

His brother seemed to notice the skepticism and became slightly annoyed, "Well look at you now. Running at the speed of light." He said, a bit of spite laced in his words, like he he was jealous of his small brother now. "We both had the X gene, but you got the powers," he continued and clenched his hands on the edge of the bed. Lucas was confused at the amount of annoyance his brother seemed to suddenly exhibit. "I..I was just-"he began to stutter, but was cut off by Gray. "Don't compare," he said and stood up, taking slow but deliberate steps towards his younger brother, making the young one look back down at his shoes with newfound interest. "S..Sorry" he just managed to stutter out, losing confidence after the unpleasant interaction.

lucas was born to madeline and junto bird on the 6th of july. he identifies as a male and is heterosexual. his parents were rich insurance agents in new zealand, so he had a rather easy and comfortable childhood. he has an elder brother named gray bird. both of them are kiwis. lucas can only speak english.

lucas is six feet tall. he has broad shoulders and slightly stumpy legs due to his time spent running and building muscles in his legs. he has bleached blonde hair, owing to his own style choice, otherwise he has short, neat brown hair. he has dark brown eyes and has a soft voice. he bears a small twig-like, scattered line mark running across the small of his back, where he was struck by lightning when younger. he has no tattoos apart from the wckd tattoo. lucas wears a dogtag of his fathers last name around his neck, from his young years in the military.

lucas is cheerful, attractive as well as charismatic. however, he can be very self-conscious and disoriented, coming off as immature. he has slight temper tantrums from time to time. he loves talking to people and sharing stories. he likes the color yellow because it reminds him of all things warm like the sun. he dislikes it when things don't go his way and tends to either back off and run from the situation or prove himself to be right, there is no middle with lucas on this.

lucas is oddly good with numbers, which can be strange because his demeanor and conventional attractiveness usually makes people guess that he isn't too bright. lucas's nose scrunches when he is confused and he tends to stutter when he feels emotions to an extreme. he also has the habit of running his hands through his hair to fix it a lot.

lucas can play the guitar and sing. he enjoys performing by the bonfire whenever a new greenie arrives. he even enjoys running, as it is his job, being a runner. he dislikes it when he sees people harming animals and tends to stay away from the slaughter- house in the glade. he doesn't like seeing blood, as he tends to feel like vomiting.

lucas is immune. his name was kept the same in wckd because they associated his name with lucas cranach the elder -an artist his appellation is 'the bird' simply because of the silver dogtag he wears around his neck that has the initials 'bird' imprinted on it.

lucas can run at the speed of light. he has the mutating gene, just like his fellow friends and through the first maze trials of maze x, he found his abilities after having been chased by a griever. he suddenly found himself on the other side of the maze due to his speed. since then, he had been learning to control his abilities and use them to his advantage.

lucas was born to kiwi parents. his father used to be in the army for a while before retiring and instead finding work as an insurance agent. he met his wife there and they eventually got married, settling in new zealand after the marriage. his brother gray was born first and since he was the first son, the expectations were high for him. gray was a regular topper, winning silver at a math olympiad and stayed the top until the news of the apocalypse. lucas was always jealous of his brother at a young age, and this insecurity was doubled when he developed a stutter after having been struck by lightning one night playing in a park. he struggled to string long sentences together without stuttering, but eventually worked on his speech enough to be able to speak properly. he was extremely insecure about the scars on his back and tended to refuse taking off his shirt until his crush told him the lines looked like lightning and looked cool. this made him feel confident.

the kids were eventually taken by WCKD for experiments, and since it was found out that the kids had the infamous mutating gene, they were put through maze x, where he found his abilities. he helped his gladers find the way out and was cuffed before he could wake up because they were worried he would speed out of the compound. he was then sent through the main maze later, after they were finally able to calm him down.
