Having had pulled up the sleeves of his black shirt, Damien took a quick look at the tattoo on his right bicep. A black ink painting of a mysterious figure. Only the head of the figure was painted onto his skin. The head was covered by a mask in the shape of an oval with two open round holes located in the eyes. The lower part of the face was covered by a strong, hooked nose that resembled a long beak. The classic symbol of death and disease was etched onto his skin. It was symbolic really. He was one of the top doctors assigned to work at WCKD. He had been a prolific doctor before joining the army when his wife and son contracted and died to the virus. A virus that turned the once loving human beings into beasts - 'cranks.'

He thought he could join the army to learn to fight the dastardly creatures, and he did. But somewhere along the way, he felt his own sanity and humanity slip away. He would capture the creatures and subject them to inhuman tests and experiments. The only saving grace was how he consoled himself that the creatures were dead and incapable of feeling, like his wife and son once were. He wanted to find a cure - No, he was hellbent on finding a cure. He wanted to find something that would make all this worth it. Months seemed to pass by until he finally got the call from WCKD. He worked there for a while, having had successfully found the gene that set some people apart from the doomed masses. The infamous X gene. He was the first doctor to make leaps in this field. Yes, he had subjected the first subject, Ena, through a handful of rough experiments, and yes the girl was scarred beyond belief. But so were the other test subjects. He had finally found the mutation in their gene that made them immune to the virus and gave them abilities beyond their understanding. But was it all worth it? 

Damien dropped his sleeve and looked out the window, peering over the dystopian setting he found himself in. The tall buildings, the lights, the monorails. The people on the streets looked like mere ants against the structures. Looking a little further, he could see the walls that protected the city from the outside world. The world that killed the only people he ever cared for. He thought back to why he named the so called gene, the 'X' gene - and then it hit him. It was the date and month that both his wife and son turned into creatures beyond saving. He had the Roman numerals 10.10 - 'X.X' tattooed right where his heart laid, as a reminder of the atrocities they had gone through. They were innocent.

He had now found the cure, but he felt bitter. He thought he would have felt a sense of accomplishment - something. But he only felt more angrier than before. The only thought in circulation was "If I had found this gene before, they would still be alive." And this self hatred - this anger and frustration translated to the way he treated the children at WCKD.

They all had something his loved ones didn't. And they didn't even deserve it.

Damien Fitzgerald was married to Isla Grace and had a son named Isaac Fitzgerald. He had settled in Glasgow, Scotland with his family before they succumbed to the virus. He joined the army, then WCKD. He is heterosexual and can speak English, Russian, Mandarin and Urdu.

◎𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞

Damien has light brown, curly hair and pale skin. He has a short cropped stubble and sideburn. He has a slightly wrinkly forehead and dark brown eyes. His face usually deceives people, as his facial features are pleasant enough, but his personality says otherwise. He has a tattoo of the roman numerals 'X.X' on the left side of his chest and a tattoo of a plague doctor on his right bicep. He usually wears business shirts and formal pants. He is rarely ever seen in comfort wear like joggers.

◎𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲

Damien is very unpleasant to work with. He is quite bitter and angry. He gets outbursts of anger sometimes, and most of the other doctors label him as mentally unstable because of the satisfaction he gets from subjecting the kids to so much torture. He is also known to be very selfish, having had fought tooth and nail, and even betrayed some of his former 'friends' to get to the top of the ranks. He is known to come off as scary to the kids.

Damien is like a snake. He charms people before eventually deceiving them, and he knows how to get get his way despite the possible consequences. He is also very determined - almost to a manic level. He is one of the brightest doctors of his time despite having killed more than he could save. He was the first doctor to find the 'X' gene and got to name it too. He can come off as extremely intimidating and scary however, so after having been charmed and hurt by him, people tend to steer clear of him.

◎𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞𝐬

Damien likes to spend his time in his lab working on perfecting the cure. He gets a sick sense of satisfaction from hearing the kids scream and writhe in pain from the experiments he puts them through. He also likes to spend his time looking out his window and recalling the memories of his wife and son from time to time. Damien cannot accept defeat and dislikes being proved wrong. He hates his coworkers who overshare and he absolutely hates optimistic kids, because they remind him of his own son, who was once the brightest star of his life. He hates being reminded by people about his past.

Damien was a bright surgeon in his hometown. People would flock over to receive treatments from him, because he was known to be the best of the best. He also dabbled in other positions within the medical field, finding himself working as a Hematologist and Epidemiologist when he wanted to take a break from all the surgeries. He was one of the few doctors that could switch his roles due to his incredibly high intelligence.

◎𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞

Damien, now a widower and childless, found himself working as an army doctor after having had spent about a year and a half training in the army. He wanted to put his skills to good use and worked on the soldiers that defended the cities from the cranks. He climbed up the ranks quickly enough, and was soon allowed to conduct experiments on the cranks. They gave him access to all the tools he would need, but never put these experiments in the books because they were way too gruesome to detail.

◎𝐜𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐞𝐝

During his stint in the army, WCKD caught wind of a mad doctor operating in an army base, and they sought to recruit him. He joined WCKD and continued to work on finding the cure, which eventually lead to the discovery of the 'X gene.' And he continues to work there to this day, experimenting on the unfortunate kids.

◎𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐨𝐨 𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧

Damien acquired the tattoo of the roman numerals 'X.X' on the left side of his chest, by his heart to honor the day and month of the death of his wife and son. This marked the official day his family turned into cranks that he had to kill. He got this tattooed on his chest the day after their death, finding the nearest surviving tattoo establishment to get it done. The second tattoo, the 'plague doctor' was inked onto his skin during his time in the army. He was the only doctor that conducted unorthodox experiments to make sure the soldiers survived for as long as they could. He was essentially known as the plague doctor due due to his uncanny ability to fend off the virus and help the soldiers survive. The tattoo was done by one of the soldiers that knew of the art and felt like he owed the doctor a favor for keeping him alive. Damien really liked the tattoo and the meaning it held, and took the title unhesitatingly.

Damien was a family man. He was a loving father of a son named Issac Fitzgerald and the proud husband of a brilliant physician named Isla Grace. When he wasn't working at the hospital as the top surgeon, he dabbled in other medical fields, but mostly spent his time cooking for his wife and cleaning the house, sharing the chores with her. He enjoyed reading his child bedtime stories and liked to join his playtimes, often sitting down when his son brought him an imaginary cup of tea.

The day it was announced that the flare would wipe out more than half of humanity, he begged his family to follow him to the then establishing city that WCKD had promised to open for high class citizens and important civilians. However, his wife fought to stay and help as many people as she could, imploring him to join the cause and help the people in need. He reluctantly agreed, thinking they could ward off the virus somehow and survive. He thought that perhaps after a a year or two, he could convince her to finally come along with him to the safe zones.

However, not long after, his wife started showing signs of contracting the virus, with her lapses in memory and unusual outbursts of anger. He also noticed that her veins were more protruding and black in color. It was too late. He tried his best, with his work in epidemiology - to keep his wife alive, but in the midst of this, he lost his son to the virus too. The panic finally sent him over the edge when both his loved ones started growling and running at him with inhuman strength and black, obsidian eyes. He resisted the urge to join them, by shooting them both at point blank range, straight through their heads. This action set off a chain reaction and heavily destabilized the once stable and established doctor/family man.

He joined the army shortly after acquiring the tattoo of the date of death of his family, and continued to work there to try to keep the memory of his wife alive. He tried to keep the thought of her and her mission alive, but slowly felt the grip of reality loosening on him. He could slowly feel the sanity and humanity leaving him as he conducted more and more experiments on soldiers and cranks alike. He acquired the second tattoo here and worked for a long time until he was recruited by WCKD.

He then worked alongside the other doctors at WCKD and helped them find a cure. He stumbled across the 'X' gene when experimenting on , A.D Jansons' child, whom her own father very much seemed to hate. Damien on the other hand, found himself very much aligning to Janson and his ideologies . He liked his drive and determination, as well as his selfishness, and found himself identifying with the man. He named the gene - the 'X' gene, after his wife and son's death day. He essentially dedicated this gene to them. However, despite having found such a powerful gene and a game changing discovery, he still felt bitter. With each child he found had the 'X' gene, the more angrier he got, because in his mind, these kids didn't deserve it. These kids didn't deserve to live any more than his family deserved to die.
