24th July 3117

Dear diary,

It's ordinary, warm and sunny day.

The climate has drastically changed in the past few years. The rainfall has reduced to a minimum, while the temperature has crossed 40°C in summer.

People started dying because of sudden changes and all that because of weird and abnormal acivities of celestial bodies and underground.
The scientists had for years searched for a logic explanation for this what is currently happening, but they haven't yet found an overly satisfactory solution, except that one person can somehow change that climate and stop upcoming cataclysm.

A person that knows the universe and keeps it in palm like a drop of water.

That person should go into the hole that arose a few days ago as a result of the earthquake and the sudden flood of rainfall that came from, ask God, where.

The hole is deep, maybe across a mile and only the craziest person would go down there, in complete darkness.

But believe me, that person is crazy enough to do it.
I know, sounds stupid and impossible.

Especially when that person is me.

And I agreed on that ridiculous idea.

Honestly, I don't know what is waiting for me down there or is there anything else but disgusting dampness, dilapidated dirt and limestone or whatever rocks.

Actually, it's not even clear why would they even send me there in the first place. Like there are answers for what happened in the past few years.
Oh, please.

I won't find any answers there and plus, I might even die!

Sounds like a fairytale, right?

What made me agree to this? Ah yes, the government that threatened me that they will hurt my family after the threat with death didn't work. I don't care about them threatening me with death when I'm the only one who can save their rich ass, sorry for the phrase, and if they hurt me, they're going to hell with me, but if they hurt my family that's already another story.

I don't even have to mention how my mother almost had a mental breakdown after I told her this delightful news (catch sarcasm).
But, not even her infinite curses and cries weren't enough to stop me to get into that plane to Russia.

She unfortunately didn't know about blackmail and I didn't want her to, for her own good.

Anyway, that's why I agreed on that because I don't want my loved ones to suffer because of me and my excessive knowledge about the universe... I don't even understand what the universe has with that random hole in a ground.

Are they expecting me to meet the devil and ask him why he sent his hell on earth? Have they gone crazy and I together with them? Obviously yes.

Wish me luck because I'm about to step on the ground for, maybe, last time.
Goodbye (Just in case).

I'm kidding, I'll write you soon.

Kristal

I closed a red booklet which had my name written in the corner and put it in a brown travel bag that made me company on every trip.

I'm a person created for adventures and adrenaline. Actually, you could say I live from it.

I've always been that kind of person who would agree to any of your crazy suggestions, even though you would regret it afterwards.

I never counted how many times I was in trouble because of that while I was a teenager.

If you could only count it on the fingers ...

When I was about to leave the airplane, the cold Siberian wind carried my hair over my face and for a moment, covered the beautiful view on landscape.

Although it was midsummer, in this part of Europe it was more than normal.

The climate really disrupted and many animal and plant species unfortunately vanished.

Of course that the climate changes are not the only universe's fault, but humanity and the industry's, and various gases' that have damaged the ozone to the limit that it was too dangerous to even leave the house for a while.

Fortunately, it did not cost us oxygen and we still live normally.

At least for now.

I don't know for how long we'll be able to live like this, if I don't do something soon, even though I don't know exactly what.

Will I really find something there to help us? Well, I honestly hope and think it's time to find out.

"Miss Johnson?" I looked up from my white-colored sandals.

There was a tall man with a bald head and gloomy face with tinted glasses on the nose.

He looked rough and dangerous and I guess I should be afraid of him, but how I was always stubborn and did everything wrong, that won't happen.

He was taller than me for a head, in spite of my sandals with a pretty high heel, with which I just stepped in a half damp ground.

"Yes." I answered briefly, not taking a look away from his glasses, persistently looking for a pair of eyes behind them.

"Come after me." The roughness in his voice was sharp like a razor and without speaking, I started to follow him.

I just got here, I don't want problems.

Not far from the point where the plane landed, there was a pit, actually a hole, where I should go.

I came closer to the fenced part and put my hand on the fence, slightly tilting over so I could see inside.

But, I haven't seen anything except darkness and death that was calling me into its arms.

I swallowed the so-called dumpling in the throat and went further to the man through the part that was not fenced.

"Ah, Miss Johnson!" The old gray man was walking towards me with wide arms and a boy's smile.

I turned to him and smiled a little so that he won't think that I'm here against my will, even though I've been vibrating with this negative vibe from the moment I came here.

When his hands were bent over my body, he patted me several times on back, then moved away and gave me a hand that he then shook so strongly and almost broke all the bones in my palm.

Man, that squeeze.

"I'm Dr. John Smith, an expert for ground and its structure." Great, here's a ground expert and I can go now.

"Ready for exploration?" That would mean I won't go anywhere. Wonderful, I will still have to go into that hole that seems like it doesn't even have an end.

Actually, a rope might discount at a certain depth or heat up so I will fall into the very heartland of the earth where the warm magma will welcome me and erase my existence in a second.

For god's sake, be optimistic Kristal.

"Born ready." I fake smiled, while I was burning inside over the desire that they could just launch me in the space instead of this and make me calm the planets by some miracle.

"Excellent!" He rubbed his hands and went to a couple of people who stood up next to, I guess a crane, which would lower us to the pit.

"Ladies and gentlemen, here is our last member of the expedition, Miss Kristal Johnson, an expert for the universe and the celestial bodies." It seems like that didn't impress the people in front of us. At all.

Actually, they stared at a man like he had just told them that this was an expedition to an obvious death, that I don't even doubt it is.

"Alien." The black-haired girl harshly replied while chewing gum between her teeth.

She was pretty short and even I was taller than her with my 164 centimeters.

She held a striking yellow helmet in her hand and was dressed in an ugly protective suit till the waist.

A couple of men laughed, turning me their back and making my blue-green eyes make a circle.

"Be polite Miss Moore." Mr. Smith rebuked her and then she silently looked away only to look at me again below the line of hers thick black eyelashes.

I decided to ignore her so I looked at my right side where the pit was situated.

It looked much wider than a few minutes ago, so the fear inside of me grew a lot.

"Miss Johnson, here you go." Dr. Smith gave me the same suit and helmet as this black-haired girl had.

I had to take off my beautiful sandals and replace them with ugly black boots.

I've put on a protective suit over my tight black pants and a white blouse, and placed a helmet on my head, covered with brown braided hair.

I literally look like an alien.

I sighed and went into the crane when I remembered that I had forgotten my backpack, which I removed before pulling the suit on myself.

I quickly picked it up before the crane went down so they couldn't make me change my mind from taking it.

The other members of the expedition had just watched me shaking their heads and looking to the sky that was more blue than ever.

It was slowly getting smaller, surrounded by the almost black walls of the ground covered with the roots of the trees that grew nearby.

The scene was terrifying me and I was trying to not look down into the darkness.

What is waiting for us down here?

Are we even going to survive?
