CHAPTER 11

Aadaya's footsteps echoed softly in the dense forest as she continued her solitary journey, the weight of her thoughts bearing down on her like a stormy sea. The forest seemed to close in around her, swallowing her up in its mysterious depths. Unbeknownst to her, Sadie and Chris had vanished amidst the thickening foliage, fading away like distant memories.

With each step, the sounds of children leaving school behind grew fainter, drowned out by the rustling leaves and the urgent chirping of birds preparing for the imminent fall of night. Shadows danced playfully as the setting sun's last rays barely grazed the tips of the towering trees. The forest came alive with the evening breeze, leaves rustling and shadows shifting as if the forest itself was breathing.

Aadaya's mind was a tempest of 'what ifs,' replaying the nightmarish events that had unfolded before her eyes. The anguished screams of her loved ones haunted her, a reminder of her perceived failure as their supposed saviour. She vividly recalled her mother's screams as she turned to ash, while Aadaya cowered in a closet, powerless to stop the tragedy unfolding around her. The weight of her past failures bore down on her, suffocating her with guilt and sorrow.

Her dark thoughts were abruptly interrupted by the vigorous shaking of a nearby bush. Aadaya snapped out of her reverie, suddenly aware of her surroundings. She found herself completely enveloped by the shadowy forest, the dying light filtering through sparse leaves overhead. Her heart raced with fear as she braced herself for whatever creature might emerge.

The bush trembled once more, this time more forcefully, and out darted a small brown rabbit, its fluffy fur making it resemble a cuddly teddy bear. Aadaya's tense muscles relaxed as she let out a breath she hadn't realized she was holding. The rabbit nibbled on a piece of grass, its adorable red eyes fixed on Aadaya.

Crouching down, Aadaya couldn't help but smile as she spoke softly, "You got me there for a second, buddy." She extended her fingers, gently stroking the rabbit, who seemed to recognize her presence and responded with a contented nuzzle. In that fleeting moment, amidst the eerie silence of the forest, Aadaya found solace in the simple, innocent companionship of the small creature, a brief respite from the turmoil within her.

In the midst of the looming darkness, Aadaya's hand trembled as it met the soft fur of the rabbit. Her touch, laden with the weight of her past failures, softened as she looked into the creature's innocent eyes. In those depths, she saw a reflection of her own lost innocence and the pain that had seeped into her soul.

"You... you have no idea how much I needed this," Aadaya whispered, her voice barely audible against the backdrop of the quiet forest. The rabbit, seemingly understanding her words, nestled closer, its warmth and presence offering a fragile sense of comfort.

Tears welled up in Aadaya's eyes, unbidden and raw. She thought of her family, of their hopeful eyes that had once gazed upon her with unwavering trust. The memory of their fading smiles and the echo of their final screams reverberated in her mind. The weight of her perceived failure pressed heavily upon her chest, making it difficult to breathe.

"I'm so sorry," Aadaya choked on her words, her voice breaking with the weight of her grief. "I failed them. I failed everyone who believed in me. I couldn't protect them, and now... now they're gone."

The rabbit, as if sensing her anguish, nuzzled closer, its small body offering a silent reassurance. In that moment, Aadaya allowed herself to crumble. The walls she had built around her heart, the walls that had kept her emotions at bay, shattered like fragile glass.

Aadaya clung to the rabbit, her tears mingling with its fur, seeking solace in this tiny creature that knew nothing of her past, her guilt, or her failures. For a brief moment, she allowed herself to grieve openly, releasing the pent-up emotions that had consumed her.

Amidst the deepening shadows of the forest, Aadaya found an unexpected companion in the rabbit, a vessel for her unspoken sorrows. In its presence, she felt a glimmer of hope, a flicker of warmth in the cold void of her heart. As she wept, she realized that perhaps, amidst her pain, there was a chance for healing, redemption, and the strength to face the darkness that lay ahead.

"Woah...look here...whose this?", a deep scratchy voice sounded behind her shocked to her core. Aadaya's heart pounded in her chest like a trapped animal as she turned to face the stranger who had addressed her. The shock of the deep, scratchy voice behind her sent chills down her spine. Her eyes widened in fear as she took in the sight of a guy with tattoos snaking up his arm, his hair a vivid shade of green, and his clothes ripped and spiked, a true embodiment of a rockstar's rebellious style.

His eyes gleamed mischievously, and a sinister smile played on his lips as he assessed Aadaya from head to toe. The guy had been full of inked skin not even a space left except his face. His biker leather black spiked jacket of that hard-core rockstar feel.

The small rabbit, sensing the sudden tension, darted away, seeking safety elsewhere. A manic laughter echoed through the forest, followed by the appearance of a girl, her eyes lit with neon colours, emanating an eerie glow. More figures emerged, all clad in similar rockstar attire, forming a daunting group before Aadaya.

The girl with the neon eyes fixated her gaze on Aadaya, a sinister grin twisting her lips. "Well, well, how did a goody-two-shoes like you end up alone in this dark forest?" Her words were laced with sarcasm and malice, her eyes bearing down on Aadaya with an unsettling intensity.

Aadaya, sensing the potential danger, took a step back, her hands raised in a gesture of peace. She knew she couldn't risk harming these kids, aware that her wolf would respond with deadly force if provoked. She retreated cautiously, attempting to distance herself from the escalating situation.

However, the tension was broken when another girl, dressed conspicuously in a pink mini dress and sky-high heels, let out a shrill scream. Her presence disrupted the eerie atmosphere, causing birds to scatter and owls to awaken prematurely. Despite her heels, she remained comically shorter than Aadaya.

"Help me, you idiots!" she screeched, her entitled voice grating on everyone's nerves. One of the guys moved to assist her, but she arrogantly pushed him away once she was on solid ground. The neon-eyed girl, whom Charolette addressed as Fiona, spat back, igniting a fiery exchange of words between them.

Meanwhile, Aadaya tried to slip away unnoticed, hoping to avoid getting entangled in their drama. But before she could make her escape, a strong hand gripped her shoulder, yanking her back. The guy's raucous laughter pierced her ears, making her shoulders tense in discomfort. Inside her, her dormant wolf stirred, awakening from its slumber due to the chaos around her. Aadaya gently caressed the wolf within, urging it to return to its peaceful slumber.

The tall guy behind her leaned in, his voice a sinister whisper in her ear, "Where do you think you're going?" Aadaya swiftly pushed him away, feeling a shiver crawl down her spine at his close proximity. As she circled away from him, she found herself face to face with Charolette, her eyes filled with possessive madness.

"Where are you going?" Charolette's voice cracked with intensity. "Do you think you can go near him so easily? He is MINE!" she screamed, her eyes locked onto Aadaya's, pupils dilating in an unsettling manner.

Aadaya stood her ground, her own eyes unwavering. The confrontation had escalated beyond her control, and she found herself trapped in a web of chaotic emotions and dangerous intentions. The forest, once a place of solace, had transformed into a battleground of unpredictable threats.

As Aadaya tried to manoeuvre away from the frenzied group, she felt Charolette's hot breath on her face, her voice dripping with possessive madness. "Where do you think you're going? You think you can approach him so easily? He is MINE!" Charolette's eyes were obscured behind blue lenses, dilated with unrestrained fury.

From such close quarters, Aadaya observed Charolette losing control. Her eyes darted restlessly across Aadaya's face, devoid of focus, hands trembling from the sheer intensity of her emotions. With each push, Charolette's desperation escalated, her voice growing increasingly frantic. Aadaya stepped back, not out of fear but caution, mindful of her wolf's violent instincts.

Charolette's next shove was stronger, catching Aadaya off guard. She stumbled on the slippery forest floor, her head colliding harshly with a sharp stone. An intense, searing pain exploded through her skull, instantly colouring the grass beneath her with crimson. The group's shouts and muffled voices merged into a chaotic symphony, but Aadaya, disoriented and dazed, could scarcely comprehend their words. Fragments of blame and accusations reached her ears, but they faded into incomprehensible echoes in her mind.

A persistent buzzing reverberated in her ears, and her vision blurred, making it difficult to focus on anything. Her gaze fluttered to the group's stiletto-clad feet as they continued their heated exchange. Suddenly, they all turned to face her in unison, their eyes wide with shock. A guttural groan escaped her lips just as they abruptly retreated, their retreating footsteps fading into the distance. The sound of their stilettos vanished with a single blink, leaving Aadaya alone in the silence of the forest.

She drew a deep breath, attempting to steady herself, knowing that the wound would stop bleeding, but the healing process would take time. She had endured worse than this; physical pain seemed insignificant in the face of her inner turmoil. Yet, her thoughts strayed to her aunt, her mind clouded with concerns about her safety.

Time passed, measured by the slow rhythm of her breaths. Aadaya found herself drifting in and out of consciousness, the world around her growing hazy. Unbeknownst to her, nature took its course, and vibrant yellow flowers bloomed around her prone form. They gently cradled her on the soft forest floor, as she lay unconscious, the world slipping away from her awareness.

In her blurred consciousness, muffled voices reached her ears, accompanied by the rhythmic thud of approaching footsteps. Her eyes strained to focus, and through the haze, she glimpsed a familiar face – her brother Zack. His concerned blue eyes peeked from behind his shoulder, a mix of fear and relief etched on his features. In that moment, Aadaya found a glimmer of reassurance amidst the chaos, knowing that her family was by her side.
