The Chocolate Fairy - Chapter 4

By the time Amethyst left, an hour later, I had pretty much forgotten her comments about the potion. Well, I hadn't forgotten, but I put it out of my mind.

I had a store to open and pastries to bake.

It was Friday, which always meant a busy morning at the store. Lots of my regular customers came in to get doughnuts or cookies for the weekend.

By eleven, I had sold out of chocolate chip and oatmeal raisin cookies, so between mixing up new batches of them and waiting on the customers who wanted other items, I never got back to the potion that day.

It wasn't until the next morning that I even remembered that Amethyst had put it away.

When I got downstairs Saturday morning, I quickly opened the refrigerator, and my heart sank.

Two glass bowls, holding nearly identical yellow-ish cream, sat side by side, both covered with plastic wrap.

One of these was the potion, and the other was the filling for the eclairs.

This is going to sound hard to believe, I know. I have trouble believing it myself, but I forgot about the potion.

Yeah, I know. You're wondering how I could have forgotten about it, but life just got really busy.

Saturday was taken up with baking more cookies, both the chocolate chip and the oatmeal.

On Sunday there were parties celebrating graduations from several different high schools in the area, and since "The Chocolate Fairy" is only open until noon that day, the store was filled from the moment I opened the door until closing. Even a little after as people stood in line, waiting for cupcakes, cannolis, and cinnamon rolls.

By the time Tuesday came, and it was time to start the eclairs, I remembered that one of the bowls was not for the eclair filing, but couldn't remember which one.

I decided it was time to get rid of both of them, and I remembered that Amethyst had said the color was off on my potion. I noticed that one had an unfamiliar yellow color, so I threw it away. I knew what the eclair cream looked like, so I made my eclairs and decided to worry about the mice later.

Wednesday morning came, and I tried to keep my mind off Jeremy. He'd be coming in to get his eclairs, and I didn't know if I could face him after the conversation of the week before.

However, he seemed to be in a hurry because he didn't talk about Speculative Rock or the Natural Angels or anything other than thanking me for his regular order. Then he paid and left.

I tried not to let it bother me because, after all, hadn't I already figured out that he was only mocking me because of my ears and hair?

The buzzer went off on the oven telling me my newest creation, a chocolate fudge peanut butter bundt cake was done.

As soon as I enter the kitchen, I screamed.

The bowl of eclair filling was broken on the floor, and three mice were nibbling on the leftover cream.
