{5} Jayden

My fingers drum against the table top, eyes wandering around the shop. The aroma of coffee fills the air, my sweet white mocha scalding my tongue. Starbucks is more tranquil than I expected at nearly seven in the morning, and I'm enjoying it.

Finally, Callie enters the shop. Her shoulders slump while her lips press into a thin line. She plops into the seat across from me, ignoring my presence.

"Hey, Callie!" I chirp.

Her gaze devours the tabletop. Slowly, she picks up her steaming cup of coffee and holds it to her pale lips. She doesn't even wince as it trickles down her throat.

"You know, you could offer me a simple hello."

The coffee slams into the table, a few drops flying from the opening of the plastic container. "Hello, Jayden."

I cock an eyebrow. "What's with the sullen look?"

She rolls her eyes, folding her hands on the table. "Listen here and listen good. You don't know me. Those posers don't know me. But pretty soon, the whole school is gonna know my true motives. They're all gonna hate me. So you tell me why I have a sullen look."

The pain in her eyes nearly breaks my heart. Here's Callie Smith, a girl known for her lively personality, looking like a pick up truck ran over her heart and shattered it. I'm not sure what her confession is supposed to be. I barely even know her. But what could've happened to make her this way?

Callie picks up her coffee. With a loud scrapping sound made from her chair scooting against the tile, she storms towards the door. Her blonde hair sways to and fro as she walks. I watch, slightly mesmerized, as the door slams shut behind her. I thought I'm supposed to be the unreadable one.
