Chapter {9}

"This is the worst idea in the history of ideas."

I frowned and looked over at Felix who sat in the back seat of our black Sedan that was now parked just outside the five story building of one of Legion 66's 'across the country' company set up. With Shaded windows of glass walls that to the sky, Legion 66, was situated on a street corner in Sacramento, California, one of the bigger cities in the state.

We had parked the vehicle just outside on the opposing street so we could keep a good surveillance of activity in and around the building. But rush hour traffic seemed to annoyingly but coincidentally blocking some of our view as me, Tyler, Eric, and Felix sat in the suv.

I could hear Tyler's incessant tapping on the black leathered wheel of the vehicle from where he sat in the driver's seat as I opened my mouth to reply to Felix.

"Just get ready. Your going in next. Liz, is already situated in the basement, logging into their computer systems. Any questions?" I said handing him a magazine clip for his Pistol.

"Yes."

I groaned at his causal grin and shifted my gaze before looking back at him,"what is it?" I said, zero interest in his tone.

Tyler had turned in his seat and glanced back at Felix, I guess bored and curious as well.

"Why am I the one doing this? And what on earth am I doing again. Eric, was annoying me." He stated, glancing at Eric who rolled his eyes and looked back down at his phone.

"Oh my gosh..." I muttered bringing my hand to my forehead. I swear, they were complete idiots 80% of the time. "You are not a child, Felix, be a man and ignore him. Secondly, I sure as heck am not your mother so I really don't care what he does; for what it's worth he could shoot you and I wouldn't care all that much. It'd shut you up."

"-would it?" Tyler asked sarcastically, interrupting me and grinning.

I rolled my eyes, ignoring his comment,"thirdly, you volunteered. So get in there and please, don't do anything stupid. Just get the address of the meeting place and get out. Liz will assist in opening doors and getting you the information. Trust her. If something starts looking bad, comm me and I'll take care of it. Got it?"

Felix sighed and nodded as he headed to the back of the Sedan after loading his weapons and holstering knives, and extra ammo in his belt. His gray shirt sleeve polo with a royal blue logo of the company on his shirt, and his Blac cargo pants hiding his boots and weapons. He opened the trunk and got out before quickly and efficiently making his way toward the building Liz was in.

"We are screwed." I heard Eric say in the back, I glanced at the rear view mirror to look at him.

"It's our only choice." I reminded him, watching Felix and observing everything from the man and woman, hand in hand walking into the building with their dressy suit coats to the teenager and little girl across the street walking into a Coffee Shop, the direction the
Wind blew, the color of cars that slowed at the red light.

Felix was relying on us right now to keep both him and Liz safe and to back out and make the right choice if things went south. I wouldn't dare betray their trust. I'd rather die then watch them suffer because of my actions. That's the thing about being a leader. You get blamed for everything that goes wrong. But that didn't matter. I was their influence and their family. Maybe not by blood. But through a bond we'd all clearly created over the years.

"Liz?" I questioned through comms. I heard static through it before typing and then a voice.

"Yeah? I'm here." She said in her soft voice. I could hear the 'beeps and boops' of a corner system behind her and her fingers at work on the keyboard.

"You sure you okay with not having one of us with you? It would have made me feel better if I or Tyler or even Eric went with you."  I admitted to her.

"I concentrate better alone."  She muttered, earning laughs from both of the boys in the suv.

I smiled in amusement at that and nodded even though she couldn't see,"I don't doubt that." I told her in all honest opinion. "You have a gun on you right?"

"Yeah, Eric gave me one, it's tucked in through my belt. I doubt I'll use it." She spouted off. Clear to tell she was working and focused on other things. "Is Felix in yet?"

"Making his way-" I was interrupted by static and then Felix's sarcastic voice.

"You have reached the voice message box of-"

"Felix!" I groaned. "Stop messing around, or I swear I'll tie you to the roof of this vehicle."

"Geez.. yeah I'm here."

"Peoples lives are at stake." Tyler reminded him." We need all your attention." He said just as calmly after putting a hand on my arm.

My tension slipped from me as I glanced down at his hand. Silence over taking the comm, or maybe it was just me being distracted when I looked into his eyes.

"Felix, once you get to door A16 the combination is 1-4-6-7. After that door I can do the rest from here. Since it's facial recognition software." Liz said, breaking the silence.

"Liz? Who is the pink dot on my screen? You or me?" Felix asked.

"What?"

"The screen. The radar you sent to my phone."

My eyes widened and I focused in on the conversation, taking my eyes off Tyler for a minute. I took out my phone and clicked the link Liz had sent each of us. I could see out of corner of my eye, Tyler doing the same.

"The pink is me, Felix, why are you askin-" she didn't even have a chance to finish when she realized why. Three red heat signature dots were blinking on the screen as they made their way down a hallway, headed towards the room Liz was in.

My heart started racing, without thinking I grabbed my gun, and clips, and any gear I needed, putting it in my belt. Adrenaline giving my hands the slightest shaking. I couldn't lose anyone.

Tyler grabbed my arm, trying to stop me. "Where are you going?"

"To get her out."

"-the mission??" I heard Eric ask.

"I'll take care of it. But Liz's life is more important." I told him, before Tyler made me look at him, his hand on my cheek. I resisted a shiver at his touch.

"I'm coming with you." Tyler insisted but I shook my head.

"Stay here and watch my back."
