Chapter {7}

Our footsteps echoed at a quick pace as the three of us walked in sync side by side. Tyler on one side of our Leader and me on the other side. Agents quickly past us as we made our way to the hanger.

"I want this stopped." The director paused and glanced at me,"at all cost." I nodded immediately in understanding of what she wanted.

Tyler gave me a wary glance behind her back, a small frown that was on his lips for just a moment, then disappeared told me he had other opinions on the matter. I gave an inward sigh.

"Have your team ready to leave in 15 minutes, Agent Hernandez. Tell them it's urgent that you leave immediately if we are to beat them at their on game. Brief them on the way." She said firmly and without hesitation as she handed Tyler the folder, contacting the information on the cooperations and the mission that she had printed out.

"Yes, ma'am."

"I'll let the EVAC team know of this new dilemma." She said, stopping before glancing at me again, and then turning off into an adjoining hallway. I glanced at Tyler who looked like he wanted to say something before heading to the lab with him right behind me.

"Lily... 'at all cost' does not mean giving your life up." Tyler reminded me, catching up.

I didn't glance at him, not even wanting to risk getting lost in his eyes,"you sure?"

"Yes. Positive. I'd rather die then have to watch you die." Tyler told me, a certain tone in his voice telling me he wasn't even close to joking around, but completely serious.

I looked down and to the side, avoiding looking at him. The last thing I'd ever want to do would be to hurt him. Then again, our job was risky. It is our duty to give up our life if necessary to save so many others. He knew that and I knew that.

"We aren't going in to start a war, Ty. We are going to stop one." I retorted, and started to walk again.

He eyed me as if trying to know exactly what was going through my head. To be honest, I sometimes just wanted to let him in. Let him know exactly what I was thinking. But if I let him in...

To often I wondered if he even realized what would happen if we let something grow between us. The consequences of it. I doubt he even realized all I'm trying to do is protect him. The only way to do that is turning him down. Maybe I'm just bad at communicating in this sense. Or maybe I'm just afraid...

I hadn't even realized how far we had walked in silence as I turned my head to the side and pushed open the door after swiping my lanyard. As if they had been reading my thoughts I found them 'debating' once again. I sighed aloud this time, but it was drown out by their voices in the lab.

A wall lined with computers, monitors and equipment I could only remember the names of vaguely and stuff I'd have to take an engineering class on. Both Eric and Liz standing on opposite sides of the table that stood in the center of the room. Liz's dirty blonde hair pulled back in a pony tail. Her lab coat laying on her chair across the way next to her laptop which laid on the desk. Eric still wore his jacket that matched his blue eyes and dark brown hair. Both of them focused in on their conversation to even realize we were there. I cleared my throat and cocked a brow at the twins.

"Of course it makes sense!" Liz snapped and rolled her eyes, typing something into another computer.

"No, it doesn't-" Eric started but was cut off and snapped his head in the directions of Tyler's deep voice telling them to stop. Liz turned her head to look over this way as well.

I glanced at Tyler and then back at them,"drop it." I said calmly,"Prep for the mission and be ready in 15."

Tyler looked at Eric and grinned,"don't forget-" he was cut off by a frowning Eric.

"-Don't you dare." He warned.

"I was only going to say don't forget your guns." He lies while smirking at him.

I rolled my eyes and inwardly chuckled, I cast a glance at Liz who was in her own little world in a rush packing her laptop and files.

I looked back at the boys who had switched rolls and Tyler was frowning while Eric smirked, "let's not talk about that." Tyler muttered.

"Why don't you two do something useful and go find Felix- no doubt,  he's raiding the lounge of brownies." I told them with a joking smile.

They both looked at each other then me and nodded, leaving the area. I looked back at Liz and walked over handing her another file.
"Been doing research of your own I take it?" I questioned as she took it from me.

Liz pushed her brown rimmed glasses up the bridge of her nose. They fit her face shape well, she was one of the only people I knew who made wearing glasses attractive- not that I know many people who wore glasses- I really didn't. It fit her dirty blonde hair well. Her eyes meeting mine.  She smiled,"not as much as you."

I furrowed my brow,"what?" I asked confused.

"The mission?" She said zipping up her computer bag. "I already know what it is. And how this came up."

"Oh, right."

"I do agree this is urgent. And suspicious." She told me."what I want to know... is why. Why would legion 66 and Paramour Inc. want to start a war?" She questioned.

"Why does anyone do anything?" I questioned.

"Boredom, Fear, Greed, Revenge, Love, and Faith." She quotes as if she learned it in one of her espionage classes. She most likely had- it's where I learned it. "What do you do anything for- or should I say- what do you want to do...?" She asked with a soft smile as she put a hand on my shoulder, I looked her straight in her eyes. I glanced down for a spilt second. Then back at her.

"Love."
