Chapter {4}
][
Lily walked towards her standard industrial desk in her small room. The room was clean and neat, everything had a place from the shoes next to the wall, and the lilac scent Bath 'n' Body works spray on the four drawer, white dresser in the corner of the room next to the door to the bathroom.
She had a black framed picture of a lake with mountains in the background that looked stunning and a view most people would pay big money for. A Surface Pro laid on the top of the desk to the side with a small stand up mirror to the side of the desk and a desk lamp overhead of the Surface.
Lily turned the lamp on, and her didn't even move to turn the Surface on since it was already on. My curiosity rose even more when she gestured for me to take a seat in the black desk chair. I nodded, walking over and taking a seat in the chair.
I knew immediately we weren't even close to thinking the same thing at this moment, my mind was on her. It was always on her-to be honest it was hard to concentrate if she wasn't on my mind. Well she on the other hand was miles away so to speak in her own mind, thinking about the next mission or another way to outsmart our opposers as if she was a coach in the NFL planning a trick play.
After a while of silence that probably felt normal to her but awkward to me, I looked over at her, and spoke:"What's going on?"
Lily's eyes seemed to take a quick glance at me before farting back to the screen which illuminated but our eyes. She didn't say anything but I'm turned leaned over my shoulder and wiped the screen, typing a quick speed leading me to assume she was probably first in any typing class she'd most likely been in.
I smiled for a moment at the soft scent of her 'Honey 'n' Lavender' perfume. For being part special-undercover agent/ soldier, she wore the prettiest perfume I'd ever had the chance of coming in contact with. She really did smell like a flower.
"I have been digging into some of the files we gathered successfully on our last 'I. R.' (Info-Run). One of the files especially caught my eye." She said as she typed, eventually stopping and looking down into my eyes that gladly met hers. Her face inches from mine which only drove my heart to beat faster at the thought of kissing her, but I quickly remember the consequences of that the last time I tried to kiss her.
"There's something going on..." she trailed off, as she curled her lips which meant she was in deep thought trying to piece her puzzle together. "The way these coded messages we find and the labels of these files. It's all wrong. Like..." she paused tapping her finger on the desk. "Like a diversion almost."
She looked back at the screen and clicked the file box to the side which immediately brought up the most recent file.
"See? Look at this. The top of these files. It's the dates." I turned my attention to the screen of the Surface Pro and furrowed my brow, looking closer.
"September 19th,"I murmured in thought as she switched to another file.
"September 14th. A year later." She finished before I even had a chance to get it out. "Think about it..." she paused.
I swiped the screen back to the other file, looking them over. They were the normal files you would see, manifest of shipments by two different cooperations that the UNIA has been keeping under watchful eye.
Legion 66, and Paramour Inc. They've been making sketchy trades with both each other and another cooperation over in the Egypt.
Our division was assigned to watch all trade interactions and communications between the three of them, especially Legion 66, and Paramour Inc.
I kept switching between them, looking at the dates. What were we missing? There is something not right about this. So familiar as we stared at the screen of her Surface Pro. Her head right next to mine as she landed over my shoulder.
"Why would they put the date numbers in bold?" I asked rhetorically.
Lily bit her lip, also a habit she did when she was thinking. "I went through the other files between them in the last few years. No other dates were in bold." She muttered, before standing up straighter and pacing the room, behind me.
"It's something we are missing in the date." I added as I continued to stare at the screen. Her pacing could be heard at a constant speed behind me. Her heeled boots clicking against the floor.
"Tyler, look up significant events that happened on September 19th and 14th." Lily said stopping and looking over my shoulder.
I put my hands on the moveable keyboard of the Surface that was a vibrant blue and started typing away.
"Hmm..." I said going through the results that came up."1778, Congress passed the first budget of the United States." I took a breathe and scrolled down more,"1796, George Washington gave his farewell speech as first president of the United States."
"Think on a national scale, Ty." Lily retorted quickly, pacing again.
"Siege of Paris by Prussian Forces, 1870." I glanced over my shoulder at her.
"No... no... none of this is of any convenience." Lily muttered, but then stopped and froze up. Before slowly turning to face me."Ty, take the month out. Say the numbers to me." She ordered in her usual way. I didn't mind her bossy ness ever. She always had a reason.
"19-14." Was my reply as I turned in the swivel chair to face her, crossing my arms.
She looked down at me and then the floor,"1914." Her eyes widened and she looked back at me.
"Tyler, what famous event happened in the year 1914. Think about it." She said I could almost feel her blood radiating through her veins as if she were on the verge of an adrenaline rush.
I paused and took a moment to think."Let's See.. Woodrow Wilson was President at that time-" I stopped mid-thought. My eyes also widening and my heart starting to pump faster as I looked into her eyes.
"The beginning..."Lily started but I finished as we gazed into each other's eyes.
"World War I."
