Chapter {13}
"Which way, Liz?" I asked quickly. My heart racing with every moment, but I didn't dare show it. Or show the fact that at some points I did get nervous-especially when I had to look out for someone and make sure they were protected-no matter how much Felix believed I didn't feel any emotions on missions. He was dead wrong. In fact, I couldn't be more anxious right now with Liz following close behind me. This is why I liked to do things alone. I wouldn't have to worry about or feel guilty when one of my teammates got injured, and with Liz...lets just say she is clumsy enough on her own.
"Uh... uh..." She stuttered and I had to force myself not to groan aloud. I seriously needed to request she go through more then just one week of field training. Hesitation on a mission was a big fat no.
"Liz!" I snapped and looked back at her.
"-Right! Go right!" She told me after looking up from her phone which I was correct in assuming it showed the blueprints of the building.
I immediately turned right,"Don't be so loud, we can't really afford to let people know we are here-" I scolded lightly, but I barely had time to finish my sentence when my gaze fell on the group of men in uniforms heading toward us. It was to late to hide. The weapon in my hand already preparing for a fight as I raised the Glock.
They were running towards us. Even they hadn't even seen us yet and we hadn't seen them. like they... knew we were here!
My mind was racing trying to think of how they could have possibly known we were here. The agents I had taken care of early I had hid their bodies... it couldn't be that. We would have had more time to escape...
Then like a solid brick hitting my scull or a light bulb in my brain going off, realization struck. Felix.
"Lily!" Liz shouted as she hid behind the wall beside me and I fired another magazine of ammo at those same men who gladly returned fire and only made me more frustrated. "I know! Don't move unless I say so, Liz!" I shouted back with the adrenaline pumping through my veins and not even realizing my own volume in my tone with my ears ringing from the echoing sounds of discharging bullets. Real Bullets.
I pulled out Liz's Glock that was tucked into the back of my pants. Turning the safety off I quickly discharged the weapon, while throwing my own pistol to the side where it skidded on the floor to Liz's feet. "Reload it!" I ordered, having run out of ammo.
I ducked and rolled on the ground to the adjoining hallway for cover when they started firing back. I let a string of curses out of my mouth and in the midst of them was Felix's name. "When I find that boy I swear I'm gonna kill him." I muttered Only to feel a hand on my shoulder.
My eyes widened and my heart stop and for a moment my hands froze before all the surprise all the shock dissipated and I grabbed the wrist and used my leg strength and core muscles to flip the body over me as the man landed with a satisfying grunt on the ground in front of me. But the satisfaction disappeared the moment I laid eyes on Felix.
"Felix! What the actual heck?! How many times must you do the same thing over and over again! You startled me half to death!" I growled in a threatening tone and heard Liz from across the room state: "Speaking of the devil." I almost smirked when she said that but we didn't have time for chatting as the echoes of footsteps could be heard coming down the hall and the firing ceased for a moment.
Felix didn't even have time to utter a peep as I pulled him to his feet and ignored his dumbfound expression. "Did you get the files?" He asked as if his mind finally came back to reality.
"Yes, did you get the paper files?" I countered as I peeked my head out from my barrier of a wall and fired back, hitting one of the agents in his femur. I ducked back behind the wall and looked at Felix.
"Yes, so lets go." He told me calmly as if he didn't realize we were being shot at.
"Be my guest." I paused with a sarcastic smirk as I pointed in the direction of surrounding agents."The only exit is that way." I told him flatly.
His eyes widened and he glanced down the hallway, then frowned and turned to me. "You've got to be kidding me." He said with a sigh taking out his weapon.
"Lily!" Liz called after sliding my Glock across the floor underneath all the crossfire. I caught it and glanced at her in a nod of thanks. I glanced around the wall and fired again, pulling the trigger harder and faster each time as my heart raced faster with each passing moment.
"What's the plan?" Liz asked from across the intersecting hallway as she stayed crouched on the floor where I had left her.
"Currently not dying." Felix answered for me from where he stood in front of me, firing while I reloaded. My back against the cold cement wall, relaxing me for a second as perspiration beaded my forehead. I rolled my eyes and swept the hallways with an observant eye.
"There's got to be a way around them..." I murmured out loud but mostly to myself.
"-Tyler!"
I immediately furrowed my brow and lowered my pistol for a second. Completely confused on why Liz would suggest that. The man wasn't even here he was in the-
-vents. He was in the vents above the middle hallway. And we was trying to get my attention.
"Tyler..?" I repeated but in a more confused way then the hopeful tone Liz had had when she said his name and pointed up to the vents.
