Waking up for school every morning was not my cup of tea. It was basically like unsweetened tea to me, something of which I despised. I had no motivation to bother even opening my eyes let alone get up and actually put clothes on. But, to keep the incident that happened yesterday morning from happening again, I got up without a problem. I looked at the clock that sat on my bedside table. It read: 6:03. I groaned and threw the covers off of me before getting up to find some clothes to wear.
I walked over to my closet and picked out a black flowy dress with floral detailing that reached about mid thigh. I grabbed my light wash jean jacket and combat boots and took off into the bathroom to take a shower. After getting out I changed into my clothes, did my make up and curled my hair. I finished at around seven thirty and went back to my room to grab my bag before heading downstairs.
My dad and Ron were sitting in the kitchen but my mom and Annabelle weren't. She must have went to work already. I stood beside my dad who was eating a bowl of cereal.
"Do you not know how to cook? Maybe I want an egg or something," I asked him.
"I do, but I just don't feel like it. Why don't you cook for a change?" he retorted.
"That's what you're here for," I told him and patted him on the back.
"Well, do you want an egg?" he asked.
"No, not really. I was just trying to make a point," I answered.
He rolled his eyes at me. He looked up at me and then looked at my dress. He made a disgusted face. "Don't you think that dress is a little too short?" he commented.
I scoffed and sat down. "Not really. I think it's just perfect."
"Well, I don't think you should wear it," he said.
"Dude, it's fine," I assured him.
"Maybe you should listen to your father," Ron suggested.
"Nope."
"Stubborn child," Ron remarked. I smirked.
My dad rolled his eyes at me again and continued eating his cereal. Once he was finished he put his bowl in the sink and grabbed his jacket.
"Are you ready to go?" he asked.
"I've been ready, William."
"Fine. Come on, Azalea," he said. I snickered and got up.
I walked out the front door and into the warm air. I always thought Washington's climate was odd. I approached the truck and pulled on the back door's handle. It opened and I climbed into the cabin. As I put my seat belt on, Ron and my dad climbed into the truck as well. Soon the truck started and we were taking off down the street. I leaned my head against the window as we drove down the busy streets. A few minutes later we pulled into the school lot. The truck came to a stop and I unbuckled my seat belt.
"Don't fall out again," Ron teased me.
"Hush," I told him as I opened the door. I heard him chuckle. "Bye dad. Bye Ron. See you later."
"Have a nice day, Lea."
"Later, kid."
I smiled and shut the door and headed off through the school doors. Braelynn was already at my locker when I got into the school. She wore a white tank top with a denim shirt over top. She had on black skinny jeans and black booties with a three inch heel. Her black hair was curled to perfection and flowed beautifully past her shoulders. She smiled at me and I returned it before opening up my locker.
"Hey," she greeted.
"Hey girl."
"I love your dress. Can I borrow it sometime?" she asked.
I laughed at her. "Sure. Just remember to give it back."
"Of course I will," she said.
I grabbed my algebra book from my locker and placed it in my bag.
"So, on Saturday I think we should go to like Starbucks or something and maybe go shopping at Nordstrom or Tacoma Central," I told her.
"Okay. Sounds good. Just text me and I'll let you know when I'm ready," she smiled.
"Alright. I will," I told her and shut my locker.
The first period bell rang. I said my goodbyes to Braelynn and took off to class, not ready for the day ahead of me.

The day had been moderately slow just as I thought it would be. I walked out of every class with no homework yet again and I was grateful. At the moment I was sitting in seventh period patiently waiting on the final bell to ring. Braelynn wasn't in astronomy with me this period. She had left early. It turns out that cafeteria pizza doesn't exactly agree with her stomach.
I was taking notes on some kind of constellations while my teacher kept lecturing the class. I hadn't really been paying attention, so when the bell rang to dismiss everyone, I was still sitting in my seat five minutes afterwards.
"Miss Lennox, the bell rang six minutes ago. You're free to go now," Mr. Hamilton chuckled.
I got up from my seat and gathered up my books.
"Sorry," I told him as I walked out into the hallways.
They were almost empty aside from a few students that had sports after school. I noticed Logan and his man friend by his locker and gave him a quick smile before heading downstairs to my locker.
The hallway was quiet for the most part and I didn't mind. I unlocked my locker and put my books on the shelves. Suddenly, I got the feeling that I was being watched. I scanned the hallways to find no one there and closed my locker. I pulled my bag back over my shoulder and began walking down the hallway. I really hoped my dad wasn't peeved with me for being late.
As soon as I walked out of the school doors I was grabbed. I struggled in my captor's strong grip but it was no use. It was all happening far too fast. They pulled me to the side of the school building and held me against the fence. In front of me Trent stood, glaring at me with so much hatred in his eyes.
"What do you want, Trent?" I snapped as I tried to get out of his hold but he jerked me back hard.
I winced as my head hit the fence pole. We were on a freaking school ground. How stupid is he? I thought.
"Yesterday, you showed me up in front of my peers and you also refused me. I don't like like that, Azalea. And I most definitely don't like being beaten by a girl. Especially a petty little blonde girl like you," he spat, his hold didn't break at all.
If anything it was getting tighter and I was getting pissed off.
"If I'm of little importance to you, then why were you so eager to try and get with me in the first place, dumb ass?" I chided. He growled. "And I personally don't give one fuck about showing you up. In all honesty, you needed someone to put you in your place and I'm more than happy I was the one who was able to do it," I smirked.
Unexpectedly, he grabbed my throat and held me tightly against the fence. I gasped for air. "Listen. You did it once, but you won't do it again."
"I thought I told you not to mess with me," I breathed out.
"What are you going to do, little girl?" he asked with that stupid smirk on his face.
I shot my leg out to kick him but he was prepared for it. He ended up kicking me in my knee as hard as he possibly could. I cried out in pain but the sound was muffled by the lack of oxygen in my system. He loosened his grip just a little bit. I could feel the tears welling up in my eyes, but I refused to cry. I refused to come off as weak to him.
"You know, I always thought you were a jerk. I just never thought you would stoop this low though," I spat at him.
"Come on, Lea. Since you're such a tough girl, show me what you got, sweetheart," he teased.
I was getting light headed from not being able to breathe. He noticed and just laughed. My knee was killing me right now and I knew for a fact that it was at least sprained. Oh joy.
"Let her go," I heard a deep voice say.
I was too oxygen deprived to even think and any second now I'd be unconscious. Trent suddenly released his grip on me and I fell to the ground, gasping for air. The sudden intake of air caused me to cough loudly and I grasped my throat with both hands. It was beginning to become very sore.
I looked up to see Trent standing in front of Ron. Ron had the angriest expression on his face. He almost looked ready to kill Trent, it even frightened me. I tried to stand up but my knee gave out on me. Pain shot through my entire leg and I whimpered. Ron quickly looked down at me. He shifted himself so he was in a protective stance in front of me and Trent glared at him.
"How about you mind your own business? This is between her and I thank you very much," Trent told him.
He grunted. "If you were smart, you wouldn't even think to touch her again or I'll take matters into my own hands," he told him, venom in his tone.
I could see the fear in Trent's eyes, but as quickly as it came, it went away. "You think I'm scared of you?" he challenged.
Ron growled. I could tell he was getting rather tired of him. He took a step towards Trent and Trent shifted backwards.
"Clearly," Ron said and turned to me.
Trent went to lunge at him but Ron was far too quick. He dodged him and grabbed him by the neck before slamming him hard into the side of the school building. I could swear that I heard something crack as Trent cried out in pain.
"I could end you in the blink of an eye, punk. Don't test me. Now, if I hear that you've tried to harm her in any way or if I even see you approach her, you're done for. You got it?" he growled. Trent nodded frantically and Ron let him go. "Good. Now leave," he demanded.
Trent didn't hesitate to run off. I would've laughed if I hadn't been in so much pain.
Ron turned back to me, a soft expression now on his face. He crouched down to my level. His gaze moved from my neck to my knee. It was already swelling up and I could see the deathly purple color from bruising starting to surface. Ron carefully placed his arm beneath my legs and placed the other one behind my back. I winced as he picked me up but held on tightly to his shoulders. He walked quickly to the truck and held me as best as he could with one hand as he opened the back door. He gently lay me down on the seats before getting in on the driver's side. It didn't take but three seconds for him to take off speeding out of the school lot and down the road.
"Thank you," I whispered.
"You're most certainly welcome. He's quite lucky he made it out of there in one piece," he said.
I chuckled. "Normally, this kind of thing doesn't happen. I was caught off guard. I tried that one move you taught me but I guess he was expecting something to happen," I spoke softly.
I guess the only reason I even beat him yesterday was because he hadn't been expecting it, much like I wasn't today.
"You shouldn't worry about him anymore. I'm almost positive he wouldn't be dumb enough to try it again," he said, anger in his voice.
I just sighed and yawned. "I hope not," I said. I yawned again and Ron chuckled.
I could almost feel the truck shudder beneath me but ignored it. I was ridiculously tired and I was almost certain it had something to do with the fact the I was practically choked to death. Fighting for oxygen is a very difficult task. I yawned one last time.
"Thank you again, Ron," I groggily got out.
He chuckled. "Anytime, kid," he replied.
I smiled and closed my eyes, before drifting off to the gentle hum of the truck's engine.
