Law
He peers into the tent thoughtfully, crawling in and leaning over you, watching you for a few moments before trying to wake you. "___," He breathes touching your shoulder. You yawn, rolling over and rubbing your eyes.
"Good um....afternoon? Did you get any sleep?" He just offers a smile.
"Afternoon, I made brunch." He rumbles before going back out. Stretching, you sit up with a small frown. He really needed to get some sleep. You sigh lightly, folding your blanket up before leaving the tent to join him.
"What did you make?"
"Eggs and those canned sausages." He rumbles, giving you some plastic wear.
"Mm thank you." You hum, taking a small tin plate. "So, how far are we from the next town do you think?"
"Ten minutes maybe." He shrugs, looking around thoughtfully. "Anything you want to do when we reach town?" He asks you.
"I dunno. Guess we'll see what they have to do when we get there." You finish eating, wiping down your plate. "Time to pack up?"
"If you're ready to go yes." He says, "Just have to pack up your things."
"Alright." You nod, going back in your tent to pack the things inside of it back in your bag. Tossing the bag outside the tent, you crawl out, starting to deconstruct it so it could go back in its bag. Smoker helps you, smiling a bit to himself.
"This'll be a good day..."
"You think so?" You smile over at him. "Have a good feeling our what?"
"Not sure." He looks at you, "Just feeling good about everything." He rumbles.
"Good." You chuckle, finishing up with packing. "Hopefully that means we have a good day." He nods and straightens, taking the tent.
"This way." He adds leading you away. You follow behind him quickly, the buildings from the town ahead coming into view once the two of you reach the top of a hill.
"Wow, we were really close."
"Told you, so what first? You wanna stay here for a bit or keep going?" He asks.
"We can hang out here. See what they have to offer." You smile a little, starting along a street lined with small stores. He looks around thoughtfully.
"Your legs alright?" He asks you.
"The one that got hurt last night still feels like hell, but the other is fine." You shrug a little, looking down at your bandaged ankle. "I'll be fine though."
"Alright, but we should change that bandage soon... Should've done that before we left." He frowns slightly.
"It's okay. We can change it when we find a place to sit down."
"Alright, let's see... Anything you want, or would like?" He asks lightly.
"Hmm might see if I can find another pair of shorts." You shrug a little. "Other than that, I'm just window shopping."
"Alright, sounds good," He hums, peering around.
You giggle as the two of you leave another store. "What? Not a fan of shopping for women's clothes?" You tease, noticing how Smoker had stayed a ways away from you as you had searched through racks of clothing.
"It's not that... Just trying to give you space to do that." He huffs, looking to the side awkwardly.
"Mhmm." You hum, looking over at him with a smile. "I'm sure." The sun had started to set, tinting everything in the small town a dull orange. "Pretty."
"I guess..." He hums as you both town the corner. Ahead of you, you notice a handsome raven-haired man with an umbrella, shielding him from the light. He stood still, silver eyes on you and Smoker, along with a soft smirk. You tilt your head at the man, eyes scanning him curiously.
"Is it just me or is that guy staring at us?" You question. Smoker had stopped as soon as you spotted him. The other man walks up.
"Hello, Smoker." He greets.
"Law... Been a while." You look between the two men in confusion.
"So you two know each other?"
"That kid I told you about. Is standing in front of us now." Smoker answers.
"You spoke of me? You shouldn't talk so much Smoker. You know what happens." Law hums.
"Oh. It's nice to meet you." You say, giving the other man a small smile. He watches you for a moment before giving a polite smile.
"Likewise Miss."
"_____" You hum, introducing yourself to him.
"___," He echoes before nodding. "Did you need something Law?" Smoker inquires.
"Not at the moment, just came to say hello. Are you and your.. Friend? Hungry? I'll pay." He offers.
"I don't mind stopping to eat. I'm sure the two of you would like to catch up." You shrug, looking up at Smoker. "Not like we are in a hurry our anything."
"Sounds good to me." Smoker agrees.
"Alright, lead the way," Law says, and Smoker looks to you pointedly. You blink, looking around the small shops along the street before spotting a small diner that looked quiet and cozy.
"Um, is there okay?"
"Looks good." Smoker says and you three start for it.
"And quiet." Law comments. The three of you go inside, a small waitress smiling at you.
"Table for three?"
"Yes please." You nod. She leads you to a small table passing out menus.
"Hope you enjoy." She smiles, going back to seat a few more people.
"Let's see what they have here..." Smoker peers at the menu while Law rests his chin on his fist, peering around bored. You glance over the menu, quickly finding what you wanted and setting it down on the table. Another waitress comes over, giving everyone a wide smile.
"What can I get everyone to drink?"
"Tea for me." You tell her to which she nods, looking over at the two men with you.
"Tea." Smoker requests. Law meets the waitresses gaze.
"Water." He breathes before looking down again. The waitress nods, scurrying off to get everyone's drinks. You look over at Law, watching him curiously.
"So do you live around here? Or do you travel too?"
"I travel, offering assistance when I can." He shrugs slightly.
"Oh, that's nice." You hum as the waitress come back setting everyone's drinks down.
"Ready to order?" You nod, pointing at the menu.
"I'd like a hamburger." She nods, jotting it down on her notepad and taking your menu.
"And you two?"
"A hamburger for me as well." Smoker tells her. "Nothing for me right now, but I'd like to speak to you in private if that's okay." Law gives her a charming smile. The waitress blinks, blushing brightly.
"Oh um of course." She nods quickly. You watch him, raising an eyebrow. What was that all about? Law gets up, offering a small smile to you and Smoker.
"I'll just be a moment." He says. Smoker glances at him.
"Let her put in our order before you distract her." He tells the vampire simply.
"I will." You watch as the two walk away, blinking in confusion.
"Well, that was easy for him..."
"Vampire's can talk their targets into anything once they lock eyes." He shrugs slightly.
"Oh, I see..." You say, picking at your napkin on the table. "She will be alright though, right?"
"Yeah. He knows better I'm sure." He says, closing his eyes briefly before looking at you. "Does it bother you?"
"Bother me?" You question raising an eyebrow. "Hmm, I guess not. As long as she isn't in any danger. From the look on her face, I'm sure she doesn't mind it anyways."
"I guess... Just... Don't let anyone do that to you." He looks at the table with a small huff.
"I didn't plan on it." You chuckle, taking a sip of your drink. He smiles a bit, peering at you for a moment or two. You look over at him raising an eyebrow.
"Something on my face?"
"No, just thinking." He sits up as Law returns.
"Sorry about that." Law hums to you both
"It's okay." You shake your head, giving him a small smile as he sits down.
"It's not like him to have company. Are you a hunter as well?" Law asks you.
"Heh...no not exactly." You murmur, rubbing the back of your neck. He raises an eyebrow at you, tilting his head briefly.
"I see, so he's accompanying you somewhere."
"Yeah. One more town over." You tell him, looking over to Smoker briefly. Smoker hums in agreement, lips pulling into a frown briefly. Law looks between you two.
"Well, I wish you luck on that."
"Thanks. We will need it with the luck we've had..." You chuckle as your food is brought to the table.
"Yeah." Smoker agrees starting to eat. The two of you eat quietly, you happily eating your hamburger. It was delicious.
"I figured this place would have good food."
"It does, good pick." Smoker praises. You smile, taking the last bite of your burger.
"Small places like this always seem to have the best food."
"That's true." He hums.
"... I feel like I'm being teased...." Law sighs. You look over at him, laughing slightly.
"Sorry, I didn't mean it like that."
"I should be used to it by now." He peers at the food.
"It is good." Smoker smirks
"Mhmm." You nod, giggling lightly at the two men.
"You're both despicable." He huffs, looking away with a small smirk. You giggle again, giving him a small shrug.
"But funny." You point out.
"I suppose." He rumbles with a chuckle. You rest your chin on your hand, watching him quietly.
"So it's pretty crazy that the two of you ended up in the same town."
"Not really, I found him on purpose this time." He hums. Smoker raises an eyebrow at him. "I found him.... Soon I might need your help." Law breathes. Smoker pauses before nodding,
"You have it." You furrow your eyebrows in confusion looking between the two men.
"Him?"
"The first one I met." Smoker reminds you.
"Oh..." You frown, eyes shifting between the two men uneasily. "That sounds... dangerous."
"It is." They both respond easily.
"I see..." You hum, scratching your cheek, eyes going to the table in front of you.
"But... I'm sure it'll be fine." Smoker pats your shoulder softly.
"It won't be just us at least." Law agrees.
"Really? Are there more people that will help the two of you?" You ask, looking up at Law.
"... One more." He admits, looking to the side. "He's a crazy werewolf..."
"That sounds...interesting." You say, tilting your head. "The good kind of crazy or the loony kind of crazy?"
"I think it's a good thing." Law shrugs before getting up. "Also, I heard some odd happenings in town, you should look into that." He adds to Smoker.
"Odd things? What sort of odd things?" You question as a waitress comes by to refill drinks and take away the empty plate. Law waits until the waitress leaves before answering.
"Odd as in people being turned inside out." He states before placing down some money and going out. You feel a shiver run down your spine, eyes widening a bit as you get up to follow him.
"Yeah...that's odd." Smoker remains seated in thought.
"Inside out..."
"What sort of thing could do that?" You question as the door shuts behind you and Law making you flinch a bit.
"Don't know." He opens his umbrella. "Take care." He adds.
"Oh um, okay. You too." You tell him, waving a little. Looking around, you finally realize that Smoker hadn't followed the two of you outside. "Where..." You mumble, opening the door to find him still sitting at the table. "Are you coming?" He blinks back before getting up and coming over.
"We'll need a room tonight, I have to do some research."
"Okay. That's fine with me." You hum, the two of you leaving the diner once again to walk along the sidewalk. "No ideas as to what it could be?"
"Not anything I've heard... Still... I'll have to take out the source either way." He frowns. You nod, eyes going to the sidewalk.
"Just be careful, I'd much rather you not be turned inside out." He peers at you.
"Don't worry about me too much." He lifts his arm around you, patting the shoulder opposite to him. You chuckle, leaning into his side a little.
"You tell me that like you believe it will make me not."
"Eh, worth a shot... I'll bring you back something, anything you want?"
"No. Not really. Just bring yourself back right side in okay? You said you'd stick around, so I'm holding you to it." He chuckles pulling you closer into his side.
"Don't worry, I got your back." You smile up at him.
"You better."
"So... what kind of place should we sleep in tonight?"
"Hmm, some place cozy." You chuckle, looking around the street. "There okay?" You ask pointing to a small inn.
"Sure, looks good." He breathes, but you can hear the yawn he forced back down. You stop turning to look at him.
"You getting some sleep tonight." You tell him sternly.
"But... I have a hunt." He frowns lightly.
"It has waited this long. It can wait for a few more hours while you get sleep. If you're tired you could make a bad decision and end up hurt." You say crossing your arms. "Understand?" He straightens.
"I do. But... I don't want to be too late ___. Do you understand that?" He asks softly. "I'll sleep when it's dead." Frowning, your eyes go to the sidewalk.
"I guess..." You murmur, your shoulders falling a bit. "Just promise you will get some sleep when you get back." He tips your chin.
"I promise, I'll even try to sleep in." He smiles lightly.
"Okay." You hum, giving him a small smile.
"That's better." He hums before leading you into the lobby and to the front desk. "Separate rooms again?" He asks you.
"No. Don't worry about. Cheaper to just get one." You shrug. He nods and pays for one room, taking the room key before leading you up to the room, opening the door for you.
"Thank you." You smile, going in and setting your stuff down on a table. "Are you going to leave now?"
"In twenty minutes, less if I can find an answer." He answers, pulling out a laptop from his duffle bag before sitting at the table.
"Okay." You nod, going through your bag quickly to find a change of clothes. "I'm going to shower."
"Bring the first aid so you can tend to your wounds
"Will do." You go over to his bag, grabbing the first aid kit and taking it into the bathroom with you. He glances at the bathroom door before starting his research. You sigh, undressing and undoing the bandages from your legs. Making sure the water was almost scalding, you got into the shower, smiling happily as you washed the dirt and grime from your skin. You didn't want to take too long so you would get a chance to tell Smoker goodbye before he left. That and you didn't really want to be left alone while you were still in the shower seeing as the last time you had been alone in a hotel you had been kidnapped. You finish washing off, getting out of the shower and bandaging up your leg before getting dressed and going back to the other room. Smoker was just getting ready when you came out. He peers at you, straightening up as moves his duffle bag to his shoulder.
"I may be a few hours. I left you a gun just in case." He informs you.
"Okay." You nod, eyes going to the gun on the table before shifting back to him. Leaning against the wall, you cross your arms a bit. "Be safe and come back soon."
"I'll try." He offers a smile before going out. You watch the door shut behind him, sighing lightly and going to sit on the bed. Turning on the tv, you flip through the channels until you find something to drown out the silence.
About an hour or so later, you hear a knock on the balcony window. You look over, tilting your head. Standing from the bed, you grab the gun from the table going over and moving the curtain away from the window cautiously. Law sat on the railing, offering a wave. You blink at him, unlocking the balcony door and opening it. "Hello. I'm a little surprised to see you again so soon."
"Yeah... I'm bored." He deadpans, easing past. "He already left huh?"
"About an hour ago." You tell him, shutting the door to the balcony and locking it again.
"Same as ever, he leave this with you?" He holds up the gun.
"Uh...yeah..." You nod, looking at it a little shocked since you had been holding it moments earlier. "I was...how...never mind."
"You relaxed quickly, barely had a grip on it." He hands it back to you. "No offense, but do you even know how to shoot?" He asks, plopping down on one of the beds.
"Vaguely...." You mumble, setting the gun down on the bedside table. "Better than nothing though I guess."
"Then... Target practice." He decides, getting up. "Let's go."
"W-what?" You say, freezing briefly. "Oh um okay. Is there a place for that around here?"
"... Probably not, are you fast?" He asks you.
"Um...I guess?" You shrug. "Probably not as fast as normal because I messed up my ankle. Why?"
"Eh, that's fine I'll carry you if the cops show up... You might get motion sickness but it should be fine," He shrugs.
"Cops?" You ask, raising an eyebrow as you grab the room key and put it in your pocket. "Where are we going exactly?"
"I passed an old factory at the edge of town, I'm sure that's a good place to start." He leads you out after grabbing a box of ammunition.
"Oh okay." You nod, following him quickly. "So why are you helping me with this exactly?"
"He seems fond of you, so why not," He shrugs again.
"Well thank you then." You tell him, falling into silence as you walked with him. He scratches at his cheek, glancing at you.
"Does he know you're not human?" He inquires. You blink at him in confusion before nodding.
"Yeah. Well not at first, but he knows now."
"Good," He murmurs, looking ahead.
"How did you know?" You ask him, furrowing your eyebrows.
"Your blood smells different. You have wounds that are still fresh so I could pick it up."
"Oh. I see." You nod, humming in thought. "Had you asked me that a few days ago even I would have been confused. Hell, I'm still confused..." He glances at you.
"You're not alone. I have met some like you. That have no idea they're not human."
"It's pretty surprising." You chuckle, stuffing your hands in your pockets. "Helpful though I guess." Looking over at him, you tilt your head a little. "What's it like?"
"What?" He raises an eyebrow at you.
"Being a vampire. Is it like all the movies and books? Do you sparkle in the sunlight?" You ask, grinning over at him. He just gives you an extremely confused look.
"Sparkle...?" He mutters before shaking his head. "Some of it is true I suppose. I prefer night because the sun makes it feel like my skin will catch fire. I can hypnotize people, turn into a bat- but I'm still no good with the echolocation... Keep flying into people. Human food tastes horrible unless it's extremely rare meat, and when you order such things you get people staring at you in disgust..." He trails off.
"That sounds both highly entertaining and horrible at the same time." You tell him.
"I guess it would seem that way." He shrugs.
"What was Smoker like when you met him? Or has he always been how he is now?"
"He worried a lot when I met him, he didn't leave my side for the first 24 hours after the attack, didn't even sleep, on guard the entire time." He shakes his head slightly, smiling at the ground slightly. "Even though we both knew what I was becoming, he stuck around. I'll admit, I was scared. I just wanted to go home then, I was only eight."
"Oh wow. That must have been terrifying..." You murmur, eyes going to the ground. "It was nice of him to stick around though, very similar to how he is now."
"I respect him for all he's done since, trying to protect everyone. It's nice to know he's out there."
"It is." You smile. "Makes you feel a little safer at least."
"I always feel safe now, it's the perk of being a monster." He nudges you. "Once you know what you're capable of, everything gets way easier."
"I guess that's true." You laugh a little. "Just wish I could figure it out. I've only ever managed anything when absolutely terrified." He peers at you with a hum.
"I'm sure there's more to it than that. You'll figure it out in the meantime."
"Hopefully." You laugh, with a small shrug. "If not then I'll just keep randomly changing into some sort of cat at random times. That's always fun." Law stops once you both enter the old factory, turning to you with a frown.
"___, Shapeshifters lose control sometimes. As you are inexperienced... You're a danger." He warns you softly. You frown, eyes going to the ground.
"I was afraid of that..." Your heart drops a little. "I don't want to hurt anyone...especially anyone I care about..." He places a hand on your shoulder.
"Be careful, and find courage in what's around you. Remember, you're safe with Smoker," He tips your chin. "Now how about we teach you, how to have his back."
"Okay." You smile a little. "That sounds like a plan."
"Good, I'm going to be setting up bottles randomly all around you, move and look fast to shoot them down. Use your ears okay?" He smirks, giving your ear a soft tug.
"Got it." You chuckle, checking the gun and giving him a nod to show you were ready to start. He nods and suddenly disappears, there's a 'clink' and you look over to see a bottle on a barrel. You turn, aiming at the bottle and shooting three times before it shatters. You hear another 'clink' turning again and firing, this time hitting it with two shots. You and Law do this for an hour, each time the bottles showed up in trickier spots, and faster too. Once it is over, Law is in front of you again.
"Feel better with it now?" He smiles slightly.
"Yeah. Much better." You nod, giving him a smile. "Thank you for helping me with this."
"No problem, it was actually fun, you have good instincts." He rumbles before peering around. You chuckle, shrugging a bit.
"That's nice to hear. Glad you had fun too." He nods.
"Come on, he'll probably worry if you're not there when he returns." He hums leading you out.
"Oh yeah probably." You nod, following him back to the inn. When the two of you get there, you unlock the door, still wearing a small smile on your face. Smoker looks over after leaving the bathroom, steam following him out to indicate he had just got out of the shower, plus he was shirtless, muscles slick from the water.
"I was wondering where you went." He comments, glancing at Law. You blink, watching water trail down his chest before realizing he had said something.
"Huh?" You look up meeting his eyes. "Oh sorry, Law took me to show me how to use a gun properly. I didn't know you would be back so soon." He blinks.
"Oh... Thanks." He gives Law an awkward nod. Law raises an eyebrow at his tone.
"No problem, I'll head off then... See you ___." Law offers you smile before backing out.
"Bye, thanks again Law." You hum, going to sit on the bed. Setting the gun down on the side table, you look over at Smoker again, being sure to keep your eyes on his face so you wouldn't get...distracted. "So did you figure out what it was?"
"Right, it was genie granting wishes for his master." He rolls his shoulders, frowning lightly.
"Really?" You raise your eyebrows in surprise. "So how did you take care of it?"
"I killed the master." He rubs his neck, "I wasn't expecting Law to come back, did he want something?" You shrug, watching him curiously.
"No. Not that I know of. He just said he was bored." He nods."
I see... I guess that's alright..." He grumbles.
"Is something wrong?" You ask him, frowning a bit at how different he was acting. He glances at you before going to his bag and shifting through it.
"I wanted to show you..." He admits awkwardly. You blink at him before giggling.
"Well, I'm sure I have a lot more to learn. I'll make sure to save that for you to teach me."
"Well, Shotguns are pretty handy." He hums thoughtfully, holding it up.
"It looks like it would be." You smile, pulling your knees up to rest your chin on them. "I'm glad you're okay..." He smiles before coming over and sitting beside you.
"Told you I'd come back." He nudges you.
"Yeah." You smile leaning against him lightly. "Now to keep the rest of your promise and get some sleep."
"Alright, you sleep too." He rumbles before moving to lay down with a low rumble, getting comfortable.
"Goodnight." You hum, standing from the bed to turn the light off before curling up on the other bed for the night. "Sweet dreams."
"Sweet dreams...." He breathes, peering at you for a moment before falling asleep.
