Chapter 27 - Poor Choice Of Words
Riley was with Cameron at a busy Starbucks as they placed their order at the counter. Waiting for their drinks, they both took a seat at an empty table.
"How do you think it's going?" Riley asked nervously.
At the same time, Jessie was having the dreaded talk with Olivia. Although Riley was happy that it was finally happening, it still didn't ease his own nerves at how Jessie was going to deal with it all.
"Jessie's been through much worse than telling a girl he isn't interested in her anymore," Cameron laughed. "He's broken up with a lot of girls before - one more wont hurt."
Riley eventually nodded his head once he stopped looking at his phone - expecting Jessie to call or message him any minute now. He had to stop his nervous hands from tossing his own phone in the air and catching it, because he didn't want to show Cameron how nervous he was in front for him.
However it was too late as Cameron smirked when he watched Riley try to keep his hands and legs steady.
Someone's phone alerted to a text message, and Riley jumped at the chance to see who it was. His face became saddened when he checked his own phone and saw nothing, unlike Cameron who saw his phone and became bitter because of it.
"Parents..."
Riley gave him an understanding nod as he could tell that Cameron wasn't happy to hear from them. "Still bad?"
"And then some." Cameron added as he pocketed his phone.
Riley got up from his seat and grabbed their drink orders when they were called. Riley passed Cameron his drink, as Riley then sipped his own coffee.
Riley felt slightly apprehensive about bringing the parent issue up any further, because he felt like he had a playing role in why the Summers family broke apart. Although Riley knew he was technically faultless because he didn't seek out to break them apart, Riley couldn't help but partially blame himself.
"All the bribes in the world won't make the things they did go away." Cameron spat out. "They did too much damage to my brother, and I can never forgive them for that."
Riley silently nodded his head once again, as he understood why Cameron was being protective of his twin brother.
"Jessie's been through a lot of shit recently, and he doesn't serve any more crap from people that will just end up hurting him."
Riley thought that the way Cameron was carefully looking at him, Cameron was sending him a kind of warning message.
Even though they were the same age, Riley felt like it was kind of funny that he was getting the protective brother act from someone the same age as him. But given that the nature of the topic was serious, Riley's face was like steel as he withheld his laughter from Cameron trying to intimidate him.
Cameron's face morphed to become even more serious, as he looked around them and made Riley lean in so that he could whisper to him. "So whatever happens next in Jessie's life, I'm going to make sure that no one else will hurt him. You understand me?"
Riley put his hand over his heart as he swore to Cameron, "I genuinely do like Jessie, a lot. And I promise that I will try and protect him too."
After silence bathed the atmosphere, Cameron's serious face soon became merry and happy. He then laughed everything off as he went back to becoming light hearted and easy going. "Then I wish you guys the best."

Jessie knocked on Olivia's door as he knew that she was going to be alone in there. He kept bouncing from one leg to the other, as his palms started to become sweaty when he thought about talking to Olivia.
Olivia opened the door with a big smile on her face. She greeted Jessie by hugging the visibly nervous guy, and kissed him on the cheek. "Come in!"
Jessie walked into the bedroom and was surprised to see it was actually dark inside. All the curtains were closed, and several candles were lit inside Olivia's room.
"The candles are a first hazard..." Jessie awkwardly pointed out as he watched Olivia light more candles up.
The room was in a light glow as the romantic setting encouraged Olivia to pull Jessie onto her bed. She then revealed her red lingerie by shredding the oversized shirt that she was wearing.
"What do you think?" Olivia teased, "I bought it before I came back. I thought we could make tonight special since it's been so long since we actually did it."
Jessie was naturally a hormonal guy, and he couldn't help but peek a glance at the girl he was previously attracted to.
As he noticed how every bare skin was emphasised in the minimalistic material, Jessie couldn't physically rise to the occasion.
"I actually came here so we could talk?" Jessie suggested as he picked up the oversized shirt, and recognised that it was strangely his.
Olivia grinned at Jessie as she shook her head 'no'. "I know we wanted to take things slow so that we could see if something was still there between us, and I think it's safe to say that there is."
Olivia climbed onto Jessie's lap as she began to tenderly kiss his neck. "I've missed this."
"We really need to talk Olivia." Jessie persisted as he pushed Olivia off himself.
But Olivia laughed even more as she swung back onto Jessie's lap. "We can talk after we have sex."
Olivia moved onto the other side of Jessie's neck. She leaned back in to sensitively kiss Jessie there, but was taken back when she saw a pink mark already on him. "What's this?"
Jessie stood up from the bed as he accidentally threw Olivia off his lap. He took several steps away from her, and passed Olivia her roommate's blanket to cover herself up.
"Well?" Olivia asked, as she wrapped herself up with the blanket.
Jessie knew that there was no backing out now. He was determined to end whatever thing he had with Olivia once he entered the room, and he didn't want to leave without telling Olivia it was over between them.
There were two ways that Jessie thought he could tell her. Quick and painful, which would flood her with information and hope for the best. Or slow and long, which would involve carefully explaining everything so that she would hopefully understand.
Jessie thought that Olivia deserved better, and so he wanted to be as honest as he could be. "There's someone else."
"No shit!" Olivia whispered viciously, "I can see them on your fucking neck!"
"It didn't start of as some sort of affair." Jessie admitted, "But things kind of escalated between us, and we couldn't make it work until I put things straight with me and you."
Olivia laughed in disbelief as she continuously shook her head. "I can't believe this. We were so great together, what's changed?"
Jessie stepped forward to try and comfort a visibly upset Olivia, but she distanced herself as she didn't want anything from Jessie.
Jessie then held his hands up as he gestured that he wasn't going to move any closer. "We were good Olivia. But I think there was a reason why me and you didn't work out all these times."
"Enlighten me then." Olivia said as she mockingly laughed in shock and bitterness.
Jessie shrugged his shoulders as he was honest with Olivia. Unfortunately, it came out too blunt as Jessie told her. "There wasn't this fiery passion and excitement when I was with you..."
Jessie realised his errors of being too truthful, as he immediately regretted his total honesty on the matter. Jessie believed that things with Olivia were decent, but they were even more amazing with Riley because of those factors he mentioned.
Olivia was a small ball of fire as her head became red with anger. "Who is this skank that has won you over then? Which whore stole you with this 'fire' and 'passion' then?"
Jessie tried to take back the words he used, "I didn't mean it like that! Things are just... different!"
"Different... Different?!" Olivia screamed at the top of her voice, "What shitty breakup is this? Insulting me to my face, and then saying you've already found someone better?!"
Jessie began to clammer up as this conversation was taking a completely different direction than he had first planned and thought. "I'm sorry Olivia. I thought that you should at least know why I've been less involved in this little experiment between us."
"I thought we were dating!" Olivia revealed, "So you've been cheating on me!"
Jessie stood firm in his belief that they weren't even in a relationship yet. "I did a shitty thing by sleeping with someone behind your back. And as scummy as it looks, I didn't cheat on you Olivia since we were never an actual couple."
Olivia was completely fed up as she kicked Jessie out of her room. After having listened to enough, she told Jessie. "Go back to your fucking whore!"
With the door opened for him, Jessie apologised one more time before walking out. He knew there was no way they were going to resolve this now, and so he thought he should at least give Olivia some space and time.
"You messed with the wrong woman!" Olivia screamed like a banshee, as she slammed the door behind Jessie.
~~~~~~~~~~~
Jessie did his own version of a wall of shame, as he questioned how badly his non-breakup breakup went. With hindsight, if he could have changed one thing about the whole day, then he wouldn't have told Olivia that things were lacklustre with her - compared to the 'skank' that was Riley.
Jessie went back to his shared room with Cameron and Riley, and he was glad to see Riley waiting for him there.
"How did it go?" Riley asked, as he dropped everything he was doing to talk to Jessie.
Jessie sadly laughed as he dropped his keys onto the side. "I told her that things between me and her were kind of shit compared to me and you - even though she doesn't know it's you."
Riley sympathised with Jessie as he gave him a comforting shoulder rub. "So how awkward was the whole thing then?"
Jessie told Riley the truth and revealed, "She wanted me to come round so that we could have sex. She even had a new pair of sexy underwear to lure me in too."
Riley looked back at Jessie with a teasing look on his face. "Well?"
Jessie prolonged the statement as he wanted to raise the dramatics. "As sexy as it was..."
Jessie then smiled at Riley as he pinched his cheeks teasingly. "I couldn't even get an erection with Olivia, because I was thinking about you."
Riley paused for a moment as he thought about it differently. "Think about what you said for a second, you're saying that you don't find me attractive enough to get your little fella excited?"
Riley teased Jessie further by undoing the top buttons on his shirt. Performing a little strip tease, Riley showed off his bronzed chest to Jessie. "All of this doesn't do it for you?"
Jessie wholeheartedly laughed at Riley's attempts to lighten the mood in the room. This was one of the reasons that he liked Riley more than just friends - Riley always put a smile on his face.
Jessie buttoned up Riley's shirt momentarily as he told him, "Now that everything with Olivia is out of the closet-"
Riley's snicker was interrupted by his own giggling when Jessie punched him for laughing at his double entendre.
"As I was saying, you want to do something with just the two of us?"
Riley cheekily grinned back at Jessie as he held Jessie's sides. "You asking me out on a date?"
Jessie casually shrugged his shoulders as he nodded his head. "Even though it's still a secret between us, I kind of want to do something nice for you. So... Yes, a date."
Riley answered Jessie with a simple, yet sweet kiss on the lips. "I'm looking forward to it."
