Love lots -AV
The four had a lovely dinner thanks to Jeremy and Kirstie's coming home present. They arrived to the prom just a few moments late, wanting to get the most out of the evening. Before they exited, Scott made sure to tell the chauffeur to be back by 9:30 because he had a strict 10 o'clock curfew and the drive was at least fifteen minutes. The elderly man nodded his confirmation before driving off.
Walking in the couples received some nasty stares. Scott assumed it was because he was there. The cropped pants Mitch had picked out didn't exactly hide his ankle monitor. Plus the gossip mill ran rampant in this school, there was not a single person, student or teacher, that didn't know where he had been for the past six months. Though he was a bit embarrassed he tried to ignore the looks, tonight was about making sure that Mitch had the time of his life and Scott would be damned if he let these people ruin it. He looped Mitch's arm in his and followed closely behind Jeremy and Kirstie to a table in the corner. Once the two juniors were settled, Jeremy suggested he and Scott go grab drinks for their dates. The blonde agreed and followed his best friend to the punch table.
Scott caught Jeremy grinning at him as he poured his and Mitch's cups. "What's up Jer? Am I just so hot you can't quit staring? Cause you know I'm basically a married man." Scott held up his left hand to show his promise ring.
"I'm just glad you're back man. I missed you, you know. It just wasn't the same without you there to cut the fool with."
"Missed you too J. And thanks for being there for Mitchie and looking out for him when I couldn't. I owe you. I'm glad I'm back and I'm sorry about missing most our senior year."
"Okay, enough of all this sentimental shit. Let's get back to the girls." Scott laughed at his friend's emotional avoidance but nodded his head and took off in the direction of the table. The two sat down the drinks before having a seat themselves. Mitch picked up his glass and took a large gulp before gagging. "Mitch, what's wrong?" Scott said as he jumped up to help.
"That's not fruit punch," he choked out.
Jeremy picked up his own cup taking a sip. "Vodka," he smiled before drinking a bit more. "It's pretty good too. Taste it Scott."
"I think I'll have to pass Jer."
"Why? We aren't driving remember."
"No... But I have a drug test in the morning and I doubt my PO will like it if it shows up that I have alcohol in my piss. No way. I'm not doing anything to jeopardize my freedom or give them a reason to send me back to jail."
"I get you. But if I get a little tipsy, you can watch my girl right?"
"Of course, I owe you anyway man."
A few hours later the two couples were slow dancing in the center of the dance floor. They had dirty danced and grinded against each other. They had switched partners more than once so that even Scott and Jeremy got to dance together. Now their time was drawing near, in just a few moments their ride would be outside. As the song ended they gathered their things and walked out of the gym. Kirstie's shoes were now in her hand, Scott had both his and Mitch jackets slung over one shoulder, Jeremy had his own jacket in the hand that wasn't occupied by his girlfriend. Scott pulled Mitch close and kissed his head as the neared the edge of the sidewalk, the younger boy smiling up at him.
It was 9:30 on the dot and the four began looking around for their driver but they didn't see him. They sat on the curb to wait. Ten minutes later he still hadn't shown and Scott was beginning to panic. "Guys, if I'm not home by 10 they can arrest me again" he said running his hand through his hair for the hundredth time.
"Scotty, babe just calm down, give him a few more minutes. Maybe go ahead and call Kyle or Derek."
"Let me call Derek." He pulled out his phone and dialed the number quickly.
This is Derek Johanson, leave me a message and I will return your call as soon as I can. Thanks!
"Voice mail... What do I do y'all? It's ten till 10." At that moment the limo pulled up and the four quickly loaded inside. Jeremy fussing at how late the man was. The chauffeur ignored him, pulling out of the lot. Scott was busy calling Kyle to explain the hold up while Jer continued to fuss at the old man about how slowly he was driving.
Kyle told Scott that everything would be fine, for him to just get up with Derek and explain that the limo driver was late, and that Scott had planned for tardiness but the man hadn't gotten there even remotely on time. Scott dialed the number once again and it once again went to voicemail. This time he left a message. "Hey Derek, it's Scott Hoying. I've got a situation. The limo driver was supposed to pick us up at 9:30 but he was like twenty minutes late. Now he's going like 30 miles per hour and taking the long way back home. I'm going to miss curfew and I'm freaking out. Please call me back soon." It was 9:56 when he hung up the phone. Mitch took Scott's hand, "honey, it's going to be okay. It's only your first time missing curfew."
"No Mitch, I've already had three convictions. They won't look at it that way."
The small brunette frowned but continued to grip his boyfriend's hand tightly.
They were still at least five minutes from the plantation when the blue lights and sirens rang out in the dark. Scott hung his head and willed his tears away. He couldn't cry right now. The limo made it's way to the side of the road. The police exited their car, one walking to the driver, the other staying by their door. The four could hear the hushed whispers of the driver and officer, making out words here and there including Scott's name. Soon the lock popped on the door, the second officer opened the door, instructing everyone to step out and stand against the back of the car. They did so quietly though each was sure their heartbeat could be heard for miles. The other officer joined them and begin to question the group.
"Where have you all been tonight?"
The four glanced between each other before silently deciding that Mitch would be their spokesperson. "Umm, we're on the way home from prom sir."
"Have you guys been drinking tonight?"
Mitch swallowed heavily before lying, "no, sir, we haven't."
"We're looking for a Scott Hoying, which one of you is that?" Clearly they hadn't noticed the tracker on Scott's ankle. The blonde raised his hand to acknowledge his presence, he could feel his phone vibrating in his pants pocket but didn't dare reach to answer.
"Are you aware of the time Mr. Hoying?"
"Yessir."
"So why are you not in your residence?"
"The limo driver was late. I tried to ca..."
The man cut him off, "no excuse but we'll come back to that. Would you all mind taking a sobriety test? If you don't agree we'll just haul you all downtown."
The four nodded their head and the cops began administering the tests two at time. Kirstie and Mitch went first and passed with flying colors. Scott did fine as well. But Jeremy stumbled several times.
"You and the girl can step back in the car," the first cop said as he points to Mitch. The brunette locked eyes with his boyfriend, biting his lip nervously. Scott nodded for him to do as the man instructed mouthing an "I love you" as he did so. The door was shut but the two could still hear the conversation being held outside of the car.
"Son what's your name?" One of the officers asked Jeremy. The boy replied timidly. The cop walked back to his car, leaving the one to watch over the two boys.
Kirstie leaned over in her seat to whisper to her best friend. "Mitchy what's happening?"
"I'm not sure Kirst. Just be quiet so we can listen."
Soon both officers were back standing in front of Scott and Jeremy. "I need you both to place your hands on your head and turn around."
Scott took a deep breath before doing as he was told, Jeremy gulped but hesitated.
"This will go a lot smoother if you just follow directions son." Jeremy turned slowly, hands interlaced on his head. The officers began to pat the two down removing their wallets and phones from their pockets. "Do you want to leave these with your friends?"
"Yessir," Scott answered for both of them because Jeremy's mouth had gone dry and he couldn't speak. His eyes were locked on the back glass of the car, he couldn't see in but he knew Kirstie was watching from the other side.
"Mitchy! Oh my god! They're putting them in handcuffs. Holy shit! I can't breath right now."
"Calm down Kit. Please, I can't deal with this if you freak out." He was already on the edge of hyperventilating and tears were streaming down his face. Through the window he could hear the officers reading the Miranda rights. The second officer stood at the window looking down at the two crying teens, "right now you're friends are being taken to county lockup. Once they're there they'll be able to call their parents. They wanted us to give you this stuff." He shoved their boyfriends' belongings at them before saying "good night" as if he hadn't just ruined it.
Mitch watched for the second time as his boyfriend was lead away in handcuffs.
