Love lots -AV

The clacking of heels could be heard echoing through the waiting room. The group that had formed in the corner turned simultaneously to see Sara Beth making her over. Her expression was unreadable which only made everyone more nervous. She took a deep breath to steady herself before she began speaking. "I have good news and bad news." Everyone looked at her expectantly. "Bad news, there's no judge on duty and we can't get one to come out tonight and the earliest we can see someone is tomorrow at 4. So Scott and Jeremy are stuck in here until then." Kirstie and Mitch broke into another fit of sobs. "Guys, it will be okay. Tomorrow I will fix it all, somehow I will figure this out. For now though, Rashad pulled some strings and we can go see them for a few minutes in small groups. Since Derek and I have already seen them we'll give you guys a chance to go. They're in a holding cell for the night so you're going to have to see them that way. I know it's not ideal but we have to work with what we have. They said two at a time so let's let Jeremy's parents go first."

Mr. and Mrs. Lewis got up and made their way over to a waiting guard. The man leading them through a series of hallways until he unlocked a large metal door behind which stood rows of small cells with metal bars. He direct the pair to the right where their son and his best friend laid on a pair of metal cots. They appeared to be the only ones currently in holding. The boys heard the commotion and each glanced up, Jeremy sitting up from his position and dashing to the cell door.

"Mom, Dad! I'm so sorry." He sobbed. His mother reached through the bars and wiped the tears from his face before holding his head in her hands.
"Shhh, Jeremy. It's okay. Mrs. Thomas is going to work something out. You'll be out of here by tomorrow." Jeremy nodded but he still had tears flowing.
"Son, what were you thinking? Drinking at prom? You know better." Mr. Lewis spoke up.
"The punch was spiked. I wasn't drunk just a bit tipsy."
"Still, you know when you're out you're grounded until eternity correct?"
Jeremy could hear Scott snickering in the background, knowing that the blonde had been right about that fact he nodded again.
"And Scott," the other boy look over at Jeremy's mother from his place on his bed, "get over here, I haven't seen you in ages."
Scott got up and walked over, the petite woman grabbing his hands, "it's so good to see you again. I wish it were under better circumstances though. Are you doing okay?"
"Yes ma'am. I mean other than the obvious but if I can get out of this whole mess then things are looking up."
Mr. Lewis smiled, "we're glad you've found a good home Scottie. You deserve it. Now please look out from Jer tonight."
"I will sir."
"Watch out for him to Jeremy Michael."
"I will dad."
"We love you two." Mrs. Kaplan said as the two boys responded with nods. "See you boys tomorrow." She kissed their foreheads as her husband squeezed their hands and then they were gone, following the guard back down the hallway.

Kyle and Summer were next, then Amber and Rashad. The mini-reunions were strikingly similar to the first encounter. After the blonde and her boyfriend left, the boys' excitement grew. They knew that the next pair would be their partners. Sure enough Kirstin and Mitch were walking through the door, the pair nearly breaking out in a run when they saw their boyfriends standing at the cell door. The two inmates reached through the bars, grabbing the hands of their lovers. Each couple was in their own little bubble.

"Kirst, baby. Are you okay?"
"I'm fine Jer-bear. Just scared and worried."
"Honey, I'm sorry. Sara Beth said I'll be out by tomorrow afternoon. I'm so sorry I ruined your prom night."
"No, no. It's okay. As long as you're okay"
"I'm fine really." Kirstin sniffled as another tear slipped down her face. Jeremy let go of one hand to pull her face closer, pressing his lips to hers as best he could. "I love you Kirstin Taylor."
She giggle as he pulled away. "I love you too Jeremy Michael."

Mitch was squeezing Scott's hands so much it was surprising he wasn't cutting off the circulation. "Scottie, are you okay?" The blonde nodded, avoiding eye contact with his boyfriend. "No you're not. What's wrong?"
"Mitchie... I mi-" his voice broke before he managed to finish. "I might go... go to prison."
"Sara Beth told me. But she said it's a long shot. And Derek said he could work something out. You'll be fine. You have to be fine. They can't take you away again."
'They can though Mitchie. What if..."
Mitch cut him off, "no. You'll be out tomorrow. I'm not acknowledging any other possibility."
"But Mitch... if I do go back..."
"You'll still be my future husband because I'll still love you. And I'll visit you just like I did before. But don't claim anything babe."
"Okay. I love you baby girl. You know that right?"
"Unconditionally Scooter, unconditionally."

Mitch leaned forward to press a kiss to Scott's lips before they were interrupted by a guard clearing his throat loudly. "It's time to go you two." Both couples pulled back from each other, staring longingly at the person on the other side of the bars. Each whispered a final "I love you" before Kirstin and Mitch were lead away. As soon as the heavy door clicked close the brunette girl collapsed into her friend sobbing. Mitch was practically carrying her down the hallways, his own tears falling into her still curled hair.

Scott plopped back down on his cot and laid his head in his hands, Jeremy sat beside him, laying his head on the blonde's shoulder. Eventually Scott wrapped an arm around his best friend and pulled him close allowing the other boy to cry.
