Chapter 1: Sic Parvis Magna; Greatness From Small Beginnings

(Disclaimer: I do not own any of these characters, they are owned by the very talented team at Naughty Dog.)

"Monsters are real, and ghosts are real too. They live inside us, and sometimes, they win" – Stephen King.

He was deep in the jungle. It was hot, he was sweaty, and men with guns were on his tail. But Samuel Drake was looking for something.

He heard footsteps as he sloshed his way through the wet jungle; he turned around, aiming an AK-47 into the thick brush.

"There he is!" he heard a voice call out.

Sam shot into the forest. Shots were returned, but he managed to duck behind a tree for cover.

"Looks like I got some fans." Sam said to himself. He pulled a grenade from his pocket and threw it toward the gunshots. It exploded, Sam heard screaming, than nothing.

He walked over to see the bodies of the men he just killed. They were soldiers for sure, but not from any nation. They looked to be from South, or Central America. Made sense as he was in the Amazon Rain forest.

He saw a symbol on one of their jackets. It wasn't so much a symbol as it was a picture. It depicted some sort of creature. It looked like a man with large bat wings and what looked like an octopus for a head.

Sam chuckled. The octopus head in particular had him drawing parallels to a character from an old cartoon he and his little brother Nathan used to watch.

"So what?" He said to himself. "Am I going to be fighting Squidward Tentacles now?"

He cut the symbol off of the soldiers uniform, and stuck it in his pocket.

Maybe Sully knows what this is. Sam thought.

He continued to walk through the dark forest until he came across some ruins.

"Some sort of structure..." Sam said to himself. "Looks like it's either Aztec, or Mayan. Perhaps both." He walked up closer to the structure. "Could be some sort of tomb. Either way, my Intel says what I am looking for is in here." He then walked into the ancient tomb.

Sam found a troche and lit it. The walls had graves stacked on top of one another.

"Don't come to life, don't come to life." Sam said to the 1000 year old corpses.

Eventually he came to a large room in the center of the tomb. In the middle of the room, was what looked like a pirate treasure chest you'd see in a cartoon.

"Well that was easy." Said Sam. "Thought I'd have to solve some sort of elaborate puzzle, no one in their right mind, even ancient civilizations would take the time to set up."

He looked closer at the chest, he saw the same creature depicted on it, as was on the soldier.

"Well this will definitely need some looking into." Sam said.

Sam picked up the box. He froze as he heard a loud rumbling.

"You have got to be kidding me." Said Sam as he saw the large bolder rushing toward him.

Sam grabbed the box and ran out as fast as he could.

"Crap! Crap! Crap! Crap!" Sam yelled as he ran down the hallway, the bolder just inches behind him. He barely made it out of the tomb, as the bolder was stopped by the narrow doorway.

Sam got up, and raised his hands as he realized he was surrounded by the mysterious gun wielding army that had followed him here.

"Well, well, well." Came a deep, almost soothing voice, with a Hispanic accent. "If it isn't Samuel Drake. Brother of the great Nathan Drake."

An elderly man walked out from behind the army. He had grey hair, sunken-in eyes, and a grey beard. Sam recognized this man, but never thought he would see him again.

"Hector Alcazar?" Sam was confused. "Gee you're looking pretty good for a dead guy. I thought you were killed in a prison riot."

"I was." Said Hector. "But he brought me back from the endless void."

"He? Who's he? Who brought you back?" Sam asked. "What am I going to be dealing with Doctor Frankenstein now?"

"The ancient one." Hector replied. "He who has slept since the dawn of time. He has chosen me to end his slumber, and bring about his reign of darkness."

"rrrriiiiiiiggggghhhhtttt......" Said Sam. "Isn't there some unspoken rule among drug lords such as yourself? That you're not supposed to use your own product?"

"Ah there it is." Said Hector. "The famous Drake humor. So tell me Samuel, did you ever find the treasure of Henry Avery?"

"Yeah, actually we did. Ended up sinking it to the bottom o the ocean."

Hector closed his eyes, envisioning the treasure. "Oh how I would have loved to see it. I do apologize I was not able to join you and Nate on that adventure."

'Well you know." Said Sam. " Being dead is a pretty good excuse."

"Come Samuel." Said Hector. "What you hold there is the key to a much greater purpose. Something beyond you and I."

Sam looked at the box and thought for a moment. "Na, I think I'll keep it. Whatever this leads to, I think I'd like to have it for myself."

"Then I am sorry old friend." Hector apologized. "If you will not give us the box willingly, I'm afraid we will have to take it from your corps."

The army trained their guns on Sam.

Just then a helicopter flew in, and mowed down the army using mini guns.

Hector Alcazar and a few of the others managed to get away, and run into the forest.

The helicopter landed and a buff, African woman, in a blue t-shirt and brown cargo pants stepped out, followed by a few armed men.

"Always getting yourself into trouble, eh Drake." The woman said.

"Nadine." Sam greeted the woman. "Man, never in a million years did I ever think I would be happy to see shoreline."

"So who were those guys?" Nadine asked.

"No idea." Said Sam.

"Well goddamn, it's good to see you in one piece kid." Came the voice of another man who stepped off the helicopter. He was another older man. He had white hair, a grey mustache, and a big ol' cigar in his mouth.

"Victor Sullivan!" Said Sam. "Good to see you."

"So you find what you were looking for kid?" Victor (Sully) Sullivan asked.

"Sure did." Said Sam, showing Sully the box he found.

"So tell me kid." Said Sully. "Do my eyes deceive me, or was that Hector Alcazar back there?"

"Either him or a double."

"I thought he was killed in a shootout."

"I don't know, maybe he faked his own death."

"Seemed like he knew you. I thought you were lying about knowing Alcazar."

"Well I was lying about him breaking me out. I didn't lie when I said I shared a cell with him." Sam clarified. " Man I thought he was crazy back then, but now here. He was spouting some shit about some ancient one, who brought him back from the void. Some crazy mumbo jumbo like that."

"Sounds like he's been smoking a bit too much of his own product." Sully joked.

"That's what I said." Sam pointed out.

"So" Nadine interrupted. "What is it that you came all this way to find?"

"My friends." Sam began. "Well, friend, and former enemy who has now become an uneasy ally." He motioned toward Nadine. "What we have right here." Sam held up the box so the others could see. "Is the key to riches beyond what you can imagine. What is contained in this box, is the key, to the lost city of Atlantis."

Up until now, my account has been all Loud House fanfiction. So I thought I would mix it up a bit, with a fanfiction based on the Uncharted series, of which I am a huge fan. Uncharted 4 is an amazing game and Nathan Drake's story came to a perfect ending. That's why I chose to write a story about Sam Drake, as I would not want that ending touched or tampered with even in a fanfiction.
