Misgiving
On the way back in Yoongi's car, I asked a question that had been lingering in my mind, "Yoongi, how did you know the person was cheating?" Yoongi led me straight to the cheater after speaking with the big contributors. He even pointed out to me precisely the method he was using.
"Because I planted the cheater there," Yoongi answered.
"You did?" I questioned in surprise.
"Yes. I know Han Gyeongseok does not think very highly of me, but I need him to give a good report of me back to Leader Kim. He is a ruthless man, and I knew ruthlessness will appeal to him. So planting the cheater can, one, show him I am up for the job, second, establish a name for us two for the gamblers."
"Very clever," I commented. "But why didn't you tell me when I asked what we were going to do in the casino?"
"Um..." he chuckled. "I guess I assumed that you will just go along with it, which you did perfe-"
"No, you are not a person to assume things," I said. "You are still not telling me the whole plan."
"I did. Remember when I-"
"No, stop. All you told me was how you plan to deal with Mr Ga. But what about Mr Han? And what about Leader Kim? And Yugyeom too. You never even told me how you would actually take control of the gang." More doubts that I had just poured out. "You are still testing me."
"Eunjung, please," Yoongi reached out a hand to grab mine that was resting on the car seat but I snatched it away.
I looked into his eyes and said, "Be honest: did you, or did you not mean to hide the plan from me, in order to test me?"
He looked away. "I... I'm sorry. I did."
My jaw clenched. A wave of bitterness swept through me like a flood. "...I appreciate you being honest." I then leaned forward and said to the chauffeur, "Stop the car."
The chauffeur looked unsurely at Yoongi through the mirror and Yoongi reluctantly nodded. I threw the door opened and exited his car. We stopped at the side of a road in the city area. I slammed it shut again and walked away on the pavement without looking back. I turned around and stared at the car as it drove away, the bitterness still not going away.
I was in front of a skyscraper and I walked to it to lean on one of the metal pillars. Looking up at the evening sky, which had no visible stars due to the light pollution in Korea, thoughts swirled around my head. I rubbed my bare arms as a gust of night wind blew. I knew I stood out, with the bright red dress I was wearing, but I couldn't care less about the passerby's judgemental or curious gazes.
"Eunjung?" A familiar voice called out from a car that was pulled up on the side of the road.
I stood up straight and looked at where it was from.
"Yugyeom?" I muttered in surprise. He quickly got off his car and jogged to my side.
"What are you doing here alone?" He asked, visibly worried for me.
I shook my head. "It was nothing... I just had a disagreement with Yoongi."
"And he left you there? What kind of man is he?" Yugyeoem then saw me rubbing my arms. He took off his own suit jacket and draped it around me. "Here, don't get cold."
"Thank you, Yugyeom," I whispered as I pulled his jacket closer around me. It smelled of him.
He smiled warmly. "It's nothing. Anyway, what are you going to do now? Do you need a lift?"
"Actually, yes please," I said.
"Where is your home?"
"I don't know if I want to go home right now. When I'm alone, I just overthink everything."
There was a moment of silence. I saw that Yugyeom was debating with himself if he wanted to say what he was about to say. With hesitation, he said, "D-Do you want to come to my house?"
I wasn't expecting him to offer me that. "But what about your parents?"
"My father is at Leader Kim's house right now, and I don't think he will come home tonight. Mother is out of the country," Yugyeom answered.
"I mean..." I did want to be around someone right now, and I was still annoyed at Yoongi. "Sure."
Yugyeom's face lit up with a bright smile. "Really?"
I chuckled. This boy was actually quite cute. "Did you expect me to say no?"
Yugyeom scratched the back of his head and laughed awkwardly. "Yea... kind of."
"Well, lucky for you, I didn't. How far is your house from here?"
"Oh, it's not too far. I live in the city."
"Alright, let's go then," I said and walked towards his car. He jogged to walk ahead of me and opened the door for me to get in. He got into the other side and told the driver to drive. As he said, it wasn't too far from where we were. We soon got to his home, and it was one of the luxury highrise condos. We took the lift up to his apartment, and he got out a card, scanned it at a black box-like thing below the handle of the door, and pushed it open.
It was nice and neat in there, with a good view of the city. Yugyeom removed his jacket from me and hung it on a peg next to the door. We then went and sat on the white sofa, looking at the magnificent city view.
"Would you like a drink?" he asked. I nodded. He stood back up to go get drinks from the kitchen and came back with two glasses of red.
"Pomegranate Mojito mocktail," he muttered as he handed a glass to me.
I took a sip and the sweet flavour mixed with the mint exploded in my mouth. "I like this," I commented."
"It's my favorite drink," Yugyeom said. "So tell me, what happened between you and Yoongi?"
"It's nothing really." I obviously couldn't say that he wasn't telling me his whole plan of how to take over FIRE, so I lied, "I just disagreed with him on how he handled the cheater."
"I think he overdid it. If I was in his position, I would let the man go with a warning. I wouldn't want to scare away our other guests."
"You are very different to you father," I said. "Your father seems like a ruthless man."
"Yes, I don't think father trusts me enough to recommend me to Leader Kim because I see things differently from him. What about you? What is the infamous Oh Changwoo like?"
"My father... I would say he is very similar to yours."
Yugyeom chuckled. "I guess we are in the same position."
"I guess," I muttered, knowing we were in a completely different position. I was just like my father, I place my goal above emotions.
"Yugyeom."
He looked at me and said, "Yes, Eunjung?"
"Would you like to come to my 18th party?" I invited him impulsively. Yoongi would be there, and he would not be happy to see Yugyeom.
"Oh! Um...Yes, of course!"
My phone made a noise from inside my clutch bag. I got it out and saw that I received a text from Yoongi.
'I came to your house to find you but you are not there. Where are you?'
I typed back. 'I am at Yugyeom's house.'
'What the hell are you doing there?'
'Having a drink with him.'
'Hold on, I'm coming.'
My brows furrowed. 'No, you are not.'
'Yes, I am.'
"Everything alright there?" Yugyeom asked when he saw my concerned expression. I nodded curtly and continued texting Yoongi.
'How would you know where to find me anyway?'
'You really think I haven't got the address of all the FIRE executives?'
I huffed and threw down my phone onto the sofa beside me. That Min Yoongi, who did he think he was to interrupt me hanging out with my friend?
"What's wrong?" Yugyeom asked again.
"Yoongi is coming here," I replied.
"What? Why is Min Yoongi coming?"
"He is coming to get me."
