Concession

Yoongi and I walked around the nearby mall together looking for things that I could buy. We walked into a Gucci shop which not much people were in even though it was huge. A saleswoman immediately came up to us and followed us around trying to sell us things.

Yoongi picked up a leather bag with Gucci's classic print on and asked, "Do you like this?"

"No, too old school," I said. He put it back down. We continued looking around for a while and I finally found a bag that I liked.

"I will pay for it," Yoongi said. "I know you will refuse but don't. This is our date and I am paying for you."

Indeed, I was about to refuse his offer. But after hearing what he said I decided to let him pay. He was a rather observant and convincing person I've noticed.

We went to the counter and he got out a black credit card to pay for the bag. He offered to carry the shopping bag for me too. We left the shop and was about to go to another.

"Eunjung?" Someone called out from the crowd.

I turned around and saw that the girl from the other day came out from the crowd dragging Jimin in her arms.

"Miha?" I said her name unsurely. That was her name, right?

"Eunjung," she happily skipped towards me. Yep, I got her name right. "What are you doing here?"

Yoongi answered for me, "She is on a date with me."

"I was talking to Eunjung," Miha retorted, still keeping that smile on her face.

Yoongi's expression darkened but he didn't say anything, which I thought was unexpected. From what I had seen, he was always the one that got the last word. So why was this Lee Miha allowed to be like this?

"Anyway," Miha cheerily continued, "Eunjung, you go to BAC, right? Your school is on my way home. We should definitely walk home together after school on Monday!"

I was not expecting her to so suddenly invite me either. Normally when people of Busan High School see people from BAC, they would try to avoid us because those from BAC tended to look down on those of BHS and sometime would give them a hard time. This Lee Miha girl was strange. I didn't really want to hang out with her but her enthusiasm somehow stopped me from refusing.

"So it's a yes?" Miha asked after a moment. I nodded. "Perfect!" she said as her smile brightened. "Jimin babe do you want to come with me?"

Jimin shrugged emotionlessly then nodded after a glare from Miha.

"Cool! See you then, Eunjung!" She skipped away with Jimin before I could even say anything.

"Who is she?" I asked Yoongi after they left.

"A girl that I want to fucking kill," Yoongi muttered darkly.

I raised an eyebrow. I had never seen him like this before. "Kill? As in the metaphorical sense or the literal sense?"

"The literal sense." A smirk suddenly appeared on his flawless face. "She just became part of my plan."

"How?" I asked.

"She will be the catalyst," Yoongi said enigmatically.

I didn't bother to ask further because he already said that he would tell me the whole plan only after I succeeded in my part.

"Let's take our minds off that fucking annoying girl," Yoongi said. He suddenly linked his hand with mine and started leading me to another shop. I was about to take my hand away but he grabbed it tighter.

"Please," he muttered. I noticed that he was still breathing hard. That girl really angered him, didn't she? Yoongi was squeezing my hand slightly too hard, but not enough to cause me pain. I sighed and didn't protest further. I allowed him to hold me as he brought me to different shops and bought me different things. Surprisingly, it seemed like he enjoyed it more when he was buying things for me than when he was buying them for himself. He made it a cheerful experience and I soon became comfortable holding his hand that engulfed mine.

By the end, both of our free hands were filled with shopping bags.

Yoongi said as we were walking out of the mall, "I really enjoy spending time with you."

"So did I," I replied. That was an honest answer. Unlike most boys our age, he was rather gentlemanly. Maybe he really had something more than just the boastful personality he displayed at school?

He smiled. "Good."

We walked, hand in hand, until where we had to split up. He turned towards me and bent to kiss the back of my hand. When his soft lips touched my skin, some sort of feelings stirred within me.

He let go of my hand and gave the rest of my shopping to me. "I hope we can go on a second date."

"I hope so too," I replied. He smiled and walked towards his way to his mansion.

I turned around and started walking my way too. I thought about Min Yoongi as I walked. From the surface, he seemed like just any other kingka of the school. But now that I got to know him a bit more, I was slowly realising he wasn't just the lazy student he appeared to be. Firstly he was in the most powerful gang in Busan, and then he revealed that he was trying to overthrow its leader. I still haven't decided whether he was arrogant or confident. I guess the result of his plan will determine that.

I arrived back home and strangely, Father was home early enough for dinner. Father and Mother were together in the living room when I walked in.

"Eunjung," Mother said as I entered, "how was shopping with Jiwoo?"

"It was good," I put on a smile and lifted my shopping bags, "I bought a lot."

Mother nodded. "Good."

Father then said, "Eunjung, it's almost dinner."

"Alright Father, I will be ready," I said. I quickly went up to my room and dumped my bags onto my bed. I went to wash my hands before going back down to the dining room next to the living room. I sat in my seat at the rectangular table adjacent to Father and opposite Mother.

After the food and drinks were served by the staffs Father began, "Eunjung, I had a discussion with your mother we think you are ready to hear the other side of my work, the real side."

I looked in confusion between my parents. "What real side?"

"I have let you participate in some of my work, but they are only surface level of what goes on in the underworld. It is an awful place, Eunjung. You have only seen the tip of the ice burg."

"Alright, tell me the rest then," I said.

"Busan is the base of my company, and it is also where gang activity is most vicious in Korea. The dominate gang, FIRE, is possibly the worst group of people I have ever seen in my long career."

"Why? What do they do?"

"Rape, kill, pillage, and things I can't even bear to say in front of my daughter. Their leader is an awful man, giving out all those orders without remorse."

"Who is their leader?"

"We only know him as 'Leader Kim'. We know who he is but we can never find solid evidence to accuse him of any crime," Father said

"If you know who he is, can't you just...take him out?"

Father chuckled. "That is not how it works, Eunjung. We are not part of the underworld and we don't do things like the underworld. We have to abide by the law even when we are fighting those who don't. It is hard when we are in the light and they are in the dark."

I nodded, then asked, "Why are you suddenly telling me all this?"

Father and Mother exchanged a glance and he continued, "That schoolmate of yours, Min Yoongi, his father is one of the executives of Leader Kim. I'm pretty sure Min Yoongi will follow that path too. You have to stay away from him."

What my father said made sense. The underworld was bad. If I wanted to become a lawyer I needed to have a clean record, so I have to stir clear of that world. But strangely, what my father said only made me more intrigued about Yoongi.
