Out

After the hug, I told Scarlet why I didn’t make the cut and even told her what my aunt had done. She reassured me, “I don’t tell people what they want to hear but what they need.” She’s bold, she doesn’t say a lot, but when she talks she’s able to sting. “But your aunt is right, pull up your socks, competition is high, at least be able to say, well I'm a doctor and I’ll still make money, even if you don’t buy my music. You should be able to brag that you’re not only a musician who might get bankrupt sometime soon.” That’s the sting, she’s younger than me, but more mature, I really need to pipe up!

She shared another one of my posts on her profile; I didn’t even ask her, wow she’s reliable. She was an angel in disguise. “My friends say if you follow them they’ll show some love.” She texted. It was a small price to pay, for even more. I did as she said.

By the time my deadline reached I’d already gained six hundred followers. I got her a little gift to say thank you, chocolate. “Thanks, it’s not even my birthday.” She showed gratitude. “Well you’re really helping me out. Wanna get steak on Friday?” No way, I couldn’t control my mouth. “Sure.” she replied. I’m so dumb, the words just came out. “I’ll text you the details.” I said and left, to think about what I’d just done. Am I leading her on?

We went to school, but we left to the place afterschool, we both had changed into casual clothes. She spoke to her friend before we left. “This is not a good idea.” Her friend tried to undertone. "This guy ignored you all year then all of a sudden; he wants to take you out, right when you get fame? Coincident?” her friend said. Scarlet replied, “We’re just going out, doesn’t mean we’re going to date, Tracy.” Her friend looked at her, doubting the whole scenario. “Say that when you make out.” She said.

Scarlet laughed, “Bye.”

I didn’t have any plans, what were we going to talk about? She was picking something off the menu and I did the same. “We’ll both have steak and some fries I’ll have a coke.” I said. “And the lady?” the waiter asked. “I’ll have cappuccino.” she replied. The waiter left and I looked at her. “So, what led you to dancing on YouTube?” I ask. “It was an idea of my friend to make a group YouTube channel, so I offered to be the dancer.” She explained.

Our food came and it looked delicious. “Do you sell salad?” she asked. “Yes.” The waiter said showing her the menu. “Okay, I’ll have it to go, later.” She said. “Okay I’ll bring it to you.” he stated. I was starving and the food looked good. “Enjoy.” I say. She sips on her cappuccino and smiles. I tell her more about my aunt and what happened, with 9am. She giggles when I tell her some funny stories.

“Would you like olives in your salad?” the waiter interrupts, he has a serious problem. “Yes please.” Scarlet replies and he leaves. “Rude.” she says. I nod and we continue to eat. I get the bill. “My salad please.” Scarlet says. The waiter gets it and I pay. He hands it to her, “On the house.” the waiter states. She looks at me then back at him. “Thanks.” She finally says. “Where’s the restroom?” I ask. He points to it for me. Am I seriously leaving her with this weirdo?

I come out of there and she’s alone now. I walk towards her with a smile. We walk out of the restaurant and she receives a call. “I’ll call you.” is the last thing she said and we carry on walking. “My dad already wants to call my ride.” She says. We scroll on the sidewalk, “Wanna take some pics?” I ask. “No thanks.” I wonder why.

“Let’s call your ride, we don’t want you being late.” She looks surprised, “Sure.” she says, calling her dad. “I really enjoyed today, thanks.” She says looking me in the eye, longer than she did all day. “I enjoyed getting to know you.” I reply and a car arrives to pick her up. We hug before she gets in, and…

She enters and I wave as she drives away.
