Chapter 2

Jessica slowed her breathing, and she wiped her face. Despite the snow and ice and cold breeze that whipped her face every so often, her face was sweaty and she could feel the KATHUNK KATHUNK KATHUNK KATHUNK noise of her hear pounding harshly agaibdt her chest. She looked at the dog who had saved her, who was now, looking up at her, his big Brown eyes wide, as though he were waiting for something. "Th-thank you" she whispered. Her jacket had fallen off in the wild chase, and she was freezing. Her pale skin was even paler than before. She gazed up at the top of the trees where she emerged... And where that bear now was. The dog whined and sat down, giving an impatient bark. Jessica didn't notice before, but now she could see that the dog was incredibly skinny and dirty, and his tan red and white pelt was stained with dirt and matted with snow, making him look awful. Jessica thought nothing of it, but just pet the dog and began to walk to her home.

As she arrived home, Jessica took note that her parents cars were still gone. Good. Still as work. She had the chance to come up with a story about the cut on her knee, which she had gotten when she tripped, and where it came from. She came up with just saying she tripped on a loose wood plank and cut her knee on another piece of wood. She went into the hallway near her room and loosend a couple of planks to make her story believable. She went into her room and collapsed on the her after cleaning up her room. She was half asleep when she was snapped away when she heard a pitiful whine and scratching sound at her door. She groaned and got out of bed to see what was at the door. She peeked out, only to see the shape of a tan-red and white figure sitting there. The husky. Jessica frowned. "I said thanks. What else do you want?" she said to the dog, as though she thought the dog could understand, however she was well aware he had no idea what she was saying. When the dog stood and ran off, she took it as a sign that he was gone. She closed the door slowly and turned how walk away. She stopped when She heard the whining and scratching again. She frowned deeply and opened the door again, knowing it was the dog. Only this time, the husky was holding a dead squirrel. Jessica made a confused face. She usually loved animals, but this one was relentless for Jessica's love. "Uhmm no thanks... You eat it.." She said and slowly closed the door again, and jeepingnhet eyes on the dog as She did until the door was completely closed. She ignored the next whining fit by putting in her earbuds and listening to her music. She stopped as she looked out her bedroom window when she saw two boys, a couple years older and slightly bigger than Jessica, hitting the little husky with a stick and yelling bad names at it, calling it "Stupid!" and "Dumb!" and stuff like that. Jessica free furious. She might be annoyed by that dog, but that doesn't mean that they could be mean to it. She threw on some shoes and a coat and ran outside. She approached the pair of troublemakers and picked up a stick. "Cowards! Picking on a dog because your too scared to fight a human your OWN size" she snapped. The boys stopped hitting the dog. "Little girl... This is our part of country. Get out and you won't get hurt" said one of them, who had Brown hair and Brown eyes like Jessica. She frowned and stood her ground. "Only when you leave him alone" she said through gritted teeth. The other boy, a talk blonde haired boy, walked to Jessica. "You think you can tell is what to do, girl?" he said. Jessica nodded. "Ya. I do" she returned. The Brown haired boy laughed. "Leave, punk" blondy said. Jessica said nothing and stood still. Blondy raised his stick and struck Jessica in the head with it. She yelped and her legs stopped working, and she fell to the ground. Browny walked to her and kicked her in the spine, and he was rewarded with a sickening crack sound. She opened her mouth about to let out a cry for help, but nothing came out. Not a squeak. Blondy was about to strike her in she neck, when he let out a blood-curdling scream. Blood welled into the snow from his ankle and Jessica was just strong enough to look and see the husky sinking it's canines into Blondy's ankle. He shook her ankle but The husky only bit harder. Browny ran up and got the dog, and the husky turned and bit Browny right in the baby maker. He collapsed and held where he had been bitten and Blondy limped off, falling in the snow, only to get back up and run off. Jessica was speechless. The dog walked to Jessica and layed down. "Thank you...." Jessica managed to whisper. Its obvious he's not leaving. What a good dog... She thought, before hearing a loud ring in her ears and blacking out
