Chapter 4

Mrs Revathy switched off the lights that Kabir turned on when he was making a cup of coffee.

She slid next to her husband into the bed and tapped his shoulders to gain his attention.

Mr Avinash Chandra looked at his wife over his shoulder, beckoning her to continue , "Aap baat karenge Kabir se?"  he frowned slightly, unable to figure out what she was trying to say .She continued, "Jo Aadhira didi ne proposal laya tha na voh."

"Your son never refuses or rejects any proposal that you and your family have brought up, toh why this nervousness now."

Mrs Revathi shook her head and sadly replied ," Not nervous ,I just don't want Kabir to get any more rejection, pata nahin  kya ho jata hai, girls after talking to him, meeting him ,right away refuses to get  married to him. Mera to chand sa beta hai,  pata nahin kiske badduaae lagi hai use per. Sare uske naukari ki vajah se hai mujhe yahi lagta hai."

Mrs Revathi lost in her thoughts recalled all the proposals that were rejected.

Mr Avinash knew why the rejections happened, but he didn't want to confront Kabir.

Kabir carried a demonic aura, he look giant and scary, and that was enough for anyone to reject him.

Mr Avinash Chandra deeply felt guilty for leaving Kabir with his younger brother, Mr Akhilesh Chandra, who brought up Kabir just like him. For Mr Akhilesh, this world was full of Demons, and he believed he had to destroy everyone. Drowning himself in the process.

Tough and rough. A merry two words that rightly described both Kabir and Akhilesh Chandra.

Kabir's entire childhood revolved around Mr Akhilesh, who was a lawyer himself. Whenever Mr. Akhilesh felt the cases slip off his hands. He would use his attacking skills, which only means fighting.

Mr Akhilesh was a national kickboxing champion, and he moulded Kabir to be the same as him.

Akhilesh Chandra never had his own family, and all he had was Kabir. For  Mr Akhilesh, Kabir was his world, and for Kabir, Akhilesh was just not his chachaji but a mentor , guide,  best friend, and everything.

Mr Avinash Chandra, who felt  failure as a father, knew the mask that Kabir wears, but he didn't want his wife to know that. He was scared that she would blame herself for making Kabir a demon

Jab bacche bin baap ke bina jeene lag jaate hain  toh saari duniya unke liye khatta ban jaata hain

For Mrs Revathi, Kabir was an epitome of pure and precious soul. She couldn't see behind his mask.

Mr Avinash silently heard Mrs Revati unable to comprehend and gulping the pain.

Kabir finished breakfast and was ready to leave when Mrs Revathi Chandra stopped him.

"Take a seat, Kabir,"  Mr Chandra, too, seemed serious.

"Ek rishta aaya hai tumhare liye , tumhari bua ne laye hain and the girl is very good, working and all. What do you say ?"

Kabir stilled in his place , he knew his mother wouldn't stop this nonsense until and unless he gets married.

And , now , it's the right time to get married. He needs to be married.
Kabir took a seat next to his father silently , and his mother continued,  " Bohut acha proposal hai beta."

"212," Kashish,  his sister, muttered and giggled.

When everyone in the room silently stared at her,  she said, "  Nahi, mumma ne actually, since last 4 years , had said the same about every proposal that bhai received,  even for the ones that mumma brought herself.  Ab counting mei 212 times ho gayi hai."

Kabir chuckled and turned to his mother , who was glaring at his sister.

Mrs Revathy,  tsked and told , " This proposal is from someone I know. Mrs Vashisht , you know , right. Unki behan ki beti hai."

" Maya Sharma,  naam hai, and she's a business analyst ."

Before Mrs Revathy concludes herself , Kashish jumped to her and said, " Arey,  I know her. "

" Tumhari boutique aati hai woh."

" Nah,nah , Mumma. She's someone Akshya knew. Waise mujhe pata hai , she's good . Bhai , you should accept it. She's an outstanding person and family toh , bhai , kya level hai."

" Tum unki family ko kaise jante ho?" Mr Chandra asked.

" Papa , gossips."

Mrs Revathy  ignored her daughter's rants and looked at Kabir. He silently nodded his head and left for his work. A sign of acceptance,  he never voiced out , just signs.

Mrs Revathy stared at the door from where Kabir just vanished.  The sound of his car dashing in overspeed echoed . Reminding the mother that her son had turned into a robot.

Mr Chandra just looked away, unable to stand and watch his wife's longing eyes for her son.

Chandra family oozed perfectionism to all those who had met them, but inside the four walls , they were strangers.

Zindagi ki kahani badi ajeeb hai, jo bahar se sona dikhta hai woh andar se gotha hota hai. Aur jo bahar se gotha dikhta hai , woh sona.
