The Mysterious Note
I originally wrote a detailed scene about the bot fight. But then I deleted it, because it was boring and hard to understand.
It's in no way essential to the plot. But if you're interested in reading it, you can find it here:

Other than that, the chapter below completely skips over the bot fight. So if you're wondering where it went, there's your answer.

You won the bot fight easily, surprising even Hiro. (Again, the detailed version of the fight is in the author's note.)
Now, you were messing around with Hiro on his computer. Out of the corner of your eye, you saw a flash of black, brown, and white. You blinked. “Who’s that?”
Hiro turned around. “Oh, that’s Mochi.”
The cat perked up at the mention of his name. He walked over to the two of you, his tail held high up in the air.
“Hi, Mochi.” You knelt down, running your fingers through his soft, fluffy fur. Mochi purred softly and curled up in your lap.
“That’s weird,” Hiro muttered. “He’s never this nice to strangers.”
You blinked. “What do you mean?”
Hiro grimaced. “When the team came over, let’s just say they left with some serious injuries...”
Mochi smiled and continued purring.
“I don’t understand. He never walks up to strangers, much less let them pet him. But here he is, looking perfectly content in your arms. It’s as if...” Hiro trailed off. “...You two have met before.”
You stared at Mochi. Emerald green eyes stared back at you. For a moment, you thought you saw a flicker of sadness run through them. But it left as quickly as it had come, and you wondered if it had just been your imagination.
You inspected the cat closely. Something about him seemed familiar.
‘Do I... know you?’

You spent the whole afternoon together. Now, it was getting late and you were walking home alone. Hiro had offered to take you on his motorcycle, but you had declined, not wanting to cause him more trouble.
You sighed, a wave of regret washing over you. You should have let him take you. The last light from the sunset had died away, and now, it was too dark to see. There was a flickering streetlight in the distance, but other than that, it was pitch black.
Suddenly, you heard footsteps. You turned around just in time to see something move in the darkness.
“Is someone there?” You said shakily.
There was no reply. The streets were dark and desolate, shrouded in shadows. You peered through the darkness, trying to find the source of the noise. But whatever it was, it had hidden itself well.
You sighed and continued walking. For some reason, you had the unsettling feeling that you were being watched. You quickened your pace, your heart beating faster than before.
Soon, Fred’s mansion came into view. Relieved, you walked inside and went upstairs to your room.
After about five minutes, your phone buzzed. Alarmed, you removed it from your pocket.
On the screen was a single text:
Time is running out.
